Lake Park man allegedly obsessed with Fox News, GOP is in jail after threats made to girlfriend

A Lake Park man “obsessed with Fox News and the Republican party” is in jail today after he allegedly said that he felt he was going to have to kill his girlfriend because she was a “liberal.”

David A. Kappheim, 60, is being held at the Palm Beach County Jail without bail. He was arrested Tuesday and the arresting Palm Beach County Sheriff’s deputy placed Kappheim under a Baker Act. Kappheim is facing charges of domestic battery, aggravated assault and criminal mischief.

Rove is still begging for money….

“On the final morning of the Republican National Convention, Karl Rove took the stage at the Tampa Club to provide an exclusive breakfast briefing to about 70 of the Republican party’s highest-earning and most powerful donors. During the more than hour-long session, Rove explained to an audience dotted with hedge fund billionaires and investors—including John Paulson and Wilbur Ross—how his super PAC, American Crossroads, will persuade undecided voters in crucial swing states to vote against Barack Obama. He also detailed plans for Senate and House races, and joked, “We should sink Todd Akin. If he’s found mysteriously murdered, don’t look for my whereabouts!”’

The best strategists EVER, work for PBO. They correctly calculated to bury Mitt all summer long – now that we’re heading into the fall….spending globs of money on commercials won’t make as much difference for the simple fact that no amount of commercials at all will counter even 3 minutes of the actual live debates. By the time Rove and company come flooding the airwaves, there will be 4 debates to put to rest the sheer number of lies the GOP SuperPacs have been telling.

What is most important in terms of the fall ads are the down ticket effects. The Congressional Reps and Senate candidates betta get all their kids and grandkids on their staff to hit the social networking trails and they do townhalls and church meetings with senior citizens to overcome the TV ads. Rove needs to find out that for real, “money aint a thang”

      • GN

That’s what the GOP is gunning for: now that they have proven that they can obstruct PBO’s agenda from Congress with silence from the media, they hope to entrench more wingnuts in the House and Senate, then shoot for a GOP one-party state by 2016 when they won’t have to run against President Obama and are hoping for a weaker Dem. Remarkable turnaround by a party with a failed ideology, and such a plan wouldn’t even be conceivable without the misbehavior of the Professional Left, especially in 2010. But I think that Dems can still pull this out re: getting on the same page and messaging against a do-nothing Congress which was elected to work on jobs yet legislated extremist positions on vaginas instead. Swing voters can be convinced to toss some of these bums out.

    • conlakappa

Or the problematic strategy of asking people to come out to vote against, though it’s telling that he doesn’t explain how he even vaguely think that his is a good product. Yet there he is still begging on the last day.

Morning POU. I’m trying to get over a head cold that sprang up out of no where and has been giving me grief for the past 48 hours. *sniff*

Re-posting from the morning thread: Does anyone else find it really strange that MTV decides to change up their VMA schedule and broadcast the same night that PBO is scheduled to give his speech? I hear that there’s a real tug of war trying to get performers to come to either event. Would they have ever dared to do this in front of Romney’s speech last night?

    • Town

Nope, they wouldn’t have conflicted with the Republicans, but that’s ok because hardly anyone watches the VMAs anymore.

    • nellcote

They changed the night? I thought that conflict was always there.

      • QOakaJP

They (MTV) picked the date a few months ago, long after the DNC plans had been finalized. From my memory, the VMA’s are usually broadcast on a Sunday.Unless MTV decides to air the president’s speech on their network immediately following the show (which I doubt, but idk,) they’ll be competing with the DNC for the attention of potential young voters. And we all know how important the youth vote is going to be this time around. Oh, and who do you think the media will dedicate it’s time to on Friday?…

    • GN

I find that shady as well.

    – – – -It is always important to listen carefully to politicians give policy speeches, and it is often the case that an informed and discrete listener can learn a wealth of information from what a speaker does not say. Throughout the Republican National convention in Tampa, the speakers railed on President Obama with lies and deceptive information about the staggering debt they claim the President piled on the American people, and how a Romney-Ryan administration will make tough choices and give enormous tax cuts to the rich and corporations to inspire them to create jobs. However, there has been a deafening silence about why America’s debt is as high as it is, and how Bush-Republicans borrowed trillions of dollars to give out tax cuts and engage in two wars that have cost the American people dearly in lives, resources, and money. One can hardly blame the Republicans for avoiding any mention of Bush’s wars because it will remind Americans of the Republican-masterminded economic malfeasance that caused the worst financial crisis since the Great Depression, and continues with no end in sight.

Palin’s Contract at Fox News in Jeopardy

Gabrielle Sherman: “Last night’s kerfuffle between Sarah Palin and Fox News was a classic display of Sarah Palin being, well, Sarah Palin. But her Facebook outburst complaining about Fox canceling her appearance at the Republic National Convention reveals something deeper about Palin’s often rocky relationship with the network. Palin’s contract is up in January, and according to sources, Fox News executives are now weighing what kind of deal they would sign, if they sign one at all.”

I don’t know why people are shocked. Mittens really was born on third base and thinks he hit a triple, and all of the pompousness, entitlement, and belief in his own superiority which that entails. He really does believe that he had it tough. Mittens really does exist in a world in which a black man of PBO’s superlative level of intelligence is as possible as a talking fish, thus, the country gave the darkies “a chance” which of course resulted in failure, as to people like Mittens, blk ppl in accomplished positions is a result of affirmative action and allowing substandard people into the elite.

Due to his pomposity, Mittens has set himself up for an asswhoopin, as PBO is going to wipe the floor with this guy. It is what it is.

    • Miranda

That whole “we gave him a chance” reeks of racism and classism. That’s why I hope PBO makes him cry at the debates. Wipe the floor with his stuck up ass.

      • GN

He’s going to get his, I’m not worried about that at all. He already had a “cry uncle” moment in which he said he wanted to create a compromise agreement to take Bain and his taxes off the table. He’ll be having more of those moments. Really glad that he and Lyin Ryan are on the top of the GOP ticket. I hope that they drag the entire ticket down.

        • gc

That’s where I’m at now. Ryney will self destruct. The rest of the ticket is where the tale of the next four years will be told.

Americans like perceived winners. That is why, IMO, Kossacks emulated Thugs. But Obama is being seen more and more as a winner, hoping the convention will solidify that. I should be taking sub jobs by then, but……

      • TrulyPC

“That’s why I hope PBO makes him cry at the debates.” This would give me great joy!

    • http://twitter.com/#!/JamilaJP QOakaJP

Not only condescending, it’s a LIE! This is what I can’t stand about the coverage of this convention- no one in the media is doing their job by pointing out the GOP’s plan to sabotage the president on day one, a plan they’ve admitted to. In so many ways, the empty chair finale was appropriate, because that is what they’ve been working with from day one. They shut out the actual man from the debate and then project their fears, hates, insecurities on an image that doesn’t exist except in their own twisted minds. And they’re just hoping to psych out the rest of the country by getting them to “see” their imaginary foe as well.

    • conlakappa

No. But it’s not new. All the fakin’ and bakin’ lefties on the Orange et al. have started with that BS premise. Every argument the husband has had online with RW people has had them using that term. I’d but anything it came from The Lord High Limbaugh.

  • nellcote

Though I’m not entirely convinced that Eastwood isn’t a dem mole, I agree with this comment from Balloon Juice:

    calm68 Says:
Like most viewers I thought Clint’s presentation was odd, sad,
laughable, incongruous. Somehow this was a moment that just didn’t
work out. But it was President Obama’s response tweet that got me
thinking at a much deeper level. Obama responds with a picture of
himself sitting in his chair in the Oval Office, back turned to the
viewer, saying, “This chair is taken.” Directly to Romney, terse and
defiant. Why did Obama respond to that moment, Clint’s strange
rambling off-topic schtick? Isn’t Obama too smart to respond? But
Obama’s response was so pointed, so potent. Clearly something needed
    to be addressed.

So I went back to the whole Clint Eastwood stunt and re-watched it a
few times with a critical eye. Here’s what I come up with: that was
an intentional act of imagined violence against President Obama at a
deep semiotic, level of American mythos. Take the optics, Clint comes
out under a huge backdrop of the Western gunslinger. He starts a
monologue vs. ‘the punk.’ (Do you feel lucky, punk? Well do you?)
The punk, the empty chair, the empty suit, responds by telling Romney,
‘Go fuck yourself.’ Clint scolds Obama and leads the crowd in a
chant, “Go ahead. Make my day.” At which point, as we all know,
offstage, Clint would then shoot the punk and kill him.

This was a very public, very deeply mythical/semiotic imaginative
enactment of violence against the sitting President of the US. It was
    a post-modern lynching, black-faced dehumanization. I think Obama got
exactly what was going on and that’s why he responded with such force.

Personally, I am disgusted by it. There is an evil afoot in America
today. It is essential that we stand firm against it.

has to be nellcote. I just responded to a Deaniac post on FB that Eastwood is a respected, not senile director. He GETS visuals. So why did he do something so seemingly ludicrous? I believe you are right. And that response from Obama was out of (his usual) character. But he has said in an interview that he will try respect others POVs, but if he feel he is being played…BOOM.

      Thx for a great post.

      • nellcote

I guess it would be crass to mention that Eastwood plays a senile old coach in his new movie opening in 3 weeks…

        • Miranda

I don’t think he’s playing one anymore *snicker* – he IS one.

          • Camille

            Amen!

I would only add, consciously or subconsciously racist too.

Clint Eastwood is after all still very much a guy from a certain era.

And unlike quite a few prominent white Americans, I’ve never heard anything that suggested that Clint spoke out in support of the Civil Rights movement at that most inconvenient time – or even after.

And no, being “friends” with and casting Morgan Freeman in his movies does not count.

      • Town

I think the skit was already pre-planned but instead of starring Clint Eastwood, it was going to star Donald Trump.

Remember, Trump was supposed to be doing a skit and firing Obama on stage. But Trump backed out and Monday is when all the “surprise guest” rumors started up.

And, there was an empty chair set out on the stage. Why? If this was supposedly Clint Eastwood going rogue? How did the chair know Clint Eastwood was going to fuss at it and manage to be on stage?

The Romney people knew what that skit was going to be about, it was not off the cuff, they just replaced Donald Trump with Clint Eastwood.

        • gc

All fits. Childish assholes they are. I loved the spaghetti westerns. My love of Ennio Morriconi started then. I hate Eastwood’s politics. But this is still a fucked legacy for him. Trump cannot come across any more ludicrous than he already does.

          Keep it classy, Republicans.

    • GN

I definitely get that point, and it’s a valid one. But I think that PBO and his campaign have a really good sense of humor–they saw the RNC making fools of themselves; twitter was already clowning; PBO’s campaign jumped in and cracked their own joke.

The Republicans at that convention looked so stupid last night, clapping, hooting, and hollering at Clint Eastwood with his World of Make-Believe skit; it was literally a mass delusion televised to millions. That, alongside speakers repeatedly having to tell them, “you’re special, you really are, you’re the real owners of this country” was just so pathetic to me. Just a group of small, small people enjoying petty things. And yes, racist as hell.

    • Town

But for a candidate who chose Paul Ryan as his running mate to signal a willingness to take on big challenges, Romney spent precious few — if any — words discussing some of the country’s most pressing problems and even less time explaining how a Romney/Ryan administration would solve them:

    – 0 mentions of Financial Reform: Even as millions of Americans struggle with the effects of the Great Recession caused by Wall Street malfeasance and scores of others continue to deal with the fallout of the foreclosure fraud scandal, Romney has said that he will repeal the 2010 Dodd-Frank financial reform law, but has yet to detail what, if anything, he would put in its place.

    — 0 mentions of Climate Change: “President Obama promised to begin to slow the rise of the oceans and heal the planet,” Romney said to loud laughter. It’s too bad that he and most of the GOP delegates don’t believe in the very real threat of global warming.

What Romney Said, “Tonight that American flag is still there on the moon. Facts Take a Beating in Acceptance Speeches

Representative Paul D. Ryan used his convention speech on Wednesday to fault President Obama for failing to act on a deficit-reduction plan that he himself had helped kill. He chided Democrats for seeking $716 billion in Medicare cuts that he too had sought. And he lamented the nation’s credit rating — which was downgraded after a debt-ceiling standoff that he and other House Republicans helped instigate.

And Mitt Romney, in his acceptance speech on Thursday night, asserted that President Obama’s policies had “not helped create jobs” and that Mr. Obama had gone on an “apology tour” for America. He also warned that the president’s Medicare cuts would “hurt today’s seniors,” claims that have already been labeled false or misleading.

The two speeches — peppered with statements that were incorrect or incomplete — seemed to signal the arrival of a new kind of presidential campaign, one in which concerns about fact-checking have been largely set aside.

To be frank, that a national campaign could announce in advance an intent to simply run on lies and not be “dictated” to by factcheckers is a huge indictment of the national media and the ways in which that institution has failed the country. That said, it’s heartening that Ryan was called out so heavily for his lies, and that Mittens’ night of triumph turned into a massive fail and Republican self-parody. If the press really ups the call-outs of the Romney/Ryan mendacity, it would do much to restore their own credibility.

    – – -Axelrod: GOP event was like ‘open mic night for 2016 candidates’ – —

    – —–President Obama’s senior adviser says Mitt Romney was overshadowed by ambitious Republicans who want to run in four years.

President Obama’s senior campaign adviser David Axelrod said Friday that the Republican National Convention seemed more “like open mic night for 2016 candidates and not a convention that’s aimed at promoting Mitt Romney in 2012.”

“I don’t think they did a lot to advance the cause of Mitt Romney,” he told MSNBC’s “Morning Joe.”

The day after Romney officially accepted the GOP nomination for president, Axelrod criticized Romney’s acceptance speech as full of “snarky” attacks against the president and gauzy proposals without specifics.

“I think that what people were tuning in hoping to hear were practical solutions to the challenges we face, and what they got were some snarky lines about the president, some gauzy reminiscences about the past and some buzz words for the base, but what they didn’t get were real practical solutions and what they didn’t get were his actual proposals,” he said.

If there were any doubt but that Chuck Todd is a complete tool who regurgitates GOP talking points, he certainly confirmed as much this morning:

Chuck Todd: Why Does The GOP Have More Women And Latino Governors Than Democrats?

Chuck Todd asked Antonio Villaraigosa — Los Angeles mayor and chair of next week’s Democratic National Convention — about an issue the host had brought up yesterday amid much controversy.

“Let me ask you, though, this one question,” said Todd, after the Mayor commented about the GOP losing certain demographics. “Why is that that the Republicans have elected more women governors and have two Hispanic governors and the Democrats don’t? They don’t have as many women governors and don’t have Hispanic governors. Why do you think that is?”

    http://www.mediaite.com/tv/chuck-todd-asks-villaraigosa-why-does-the-gop-have-more-women-and-latino-govenors-than-democrats/

    ******************
This guy is a snake, and his insinuation that people of color and women get a fairer shake or are overrepresented within GOP leadership is extremely deceitful. I don’t even think that his premise is correct (Bill Richardson, anyone? And why no discussion of black governors, and why no discussion of leadership diversity as a whole, why governors only?).

He got the side eye for claiming that a convention that had literally 1% black delegates was more diverse than the DNC. He gets another side eye for his foolishness today. Chuck Todd is not to be trusted, confirmed.

    • Miranda

I know his ass is getting rightfully lit UP on twitter. This was nothing but some kind of perverted gotcha question on a false premise. Like you said, why does he think those few governors are indicative of actual leadership in the respective parties?

    • Tafr

The snarky little slime ball is just doubling down on that beat down he got earlier this week. He is just mad that folks called him out on his bs. Todd needs to realize that we are not playing with him and the rest of those clowns anymore. If they refuse to be objective, if they continue to say stupid shit, they will be called on it. No one gives a damn about his fee fees. We got an election to win and his grandstanding for the GOP will be called out. He might as well deal with it. All this doubling down is making him look childish and stupid.

    • Kennymack1971

After a Gunslinger Cuts Loose, Romney Aides Take Cover

TAMPA, Fla. — Clint Eastwood’s rambling and off-color endorsement of Mitt Romney on Thursday seemed to startle and unsettle even the candidate’s own top aides, several of whom made a point of distancing themselves from the decision to put him onstage without a polished script.
“Not me,” said an exasperated-looking senior adviser, when asked who was responsible for Mr. Eastwood’s speech. In late-night interviews, aides variously called the speech “strange” and “weird.” One described it as “theater of the absurd.”

Finger-pointing quickly ensued, suggesting real displeasure and even confusion over the handling of Mr. Eastwood’s performance, which was kept secret until the last minute.

    – – – -Blue Moon and Neil Armstrong Memorial Converge Friday – —

Here’s something that happens once in a blue moon. A blue moon!

The standard bearer of rare events occurs again Aug. 31, its first appearance since March 2010 and its last ’til July 2015. Just what is a blue moon? Nothing terribly significant, actually; it’s simply a second full moon in a single month. Full moons appear every 29 days due to the regularity of the lunar orbit. Overlaying our nonuniform yearly calendar onto this cycle causes the rare, and totally arbitrary, blue-moon-two-moon coincidence.

More lackluster lunar news: Blue moons aren’t actually blue, either. Nobody’s even sure where that azure appellation came from. Or what the blue moon may portend as they are considered good luck to some, very bad luck to others. Either way, it seems appropriate that the memorial for recently deceased Neil Armstrong, the moon’s first human visitor, will be on the same day.

    • GN

This is what slays me–Romney went to Louisiana to do precisely what? He’s not an elected official, he has no authority to help with the federal disaster relief, so why should people in a hurricane-ravaged region have to have the burden of hosting a presidential candidate and the logistics headache which comes with that? I wish that the media would ask these questions. PBO visiting gives him insight and understanding so that he can better direct agencies with regards to how to serve those who need federal assistance. Romney visiting is a photo op and unnecessary burden on people who quite frankly don’t have time for this shit right now (and I’m talking the people on the ground, not the posturing political state leadership). I dare a reporter to ask Romney why his ass is there other than to take pictures.

      • Alma98

He later criticized Nixon’s handling of the Vietnam War and his morality during Watergate.[2][3] He usually describes himself as a libertarian in interviews.

    – – –At times, he has supported Democrats in California, such as the liberal and environmentally concerned Representative Sam Farr in 2002. Eastwood contributed $1,000 to Farr’s successful re-election campaign that year and on May 23, 2003, he hosted a $5,000-per-ticket fundraiser for California’s Democratic governor, Gray Davis.[6] Later that year, Eastwood offered to film a commercial in support of the embattled governor,[7] and in 2001, the star visited Davis’ office to support an alternative energy bill written by another Democrat, California State Assemblyman Fred Keeley.

Eastwood disapproved of America’s wars in Korea (1950–1953), Vietnam (1964–1975), and Iraq (2003–2011), believing that the United States should not be overly militaristic or play the role of global policeman. He considers himself too individualistic to be either right-wing or left-wing, and has described himself as a “political nothing” and a “moderate”.[3]

    – – -In a speech delivered at a Federal Reserve retreat in Jackson Hole, Wyo., Fed Chairman Ben Bernanke warned Friday in unusually clear terms that spending cuts at both the federal, state, and local level have become significant impediments to economic growth, and made a public case for further monetary easing — remarks which have leading fed watchers predicting that the central bank will announce a new round of asset purchases (so-called quantitative easing) in September.

“[F]iscal policy, at both the federal and state and local levels, has become an important headwind for the pace of economic growth,” Bernanke said. “Notwithstanding some recent improvement in tax revenues, state and local governments still face tight budget situations and continue to cut real spending and employment. Real purchases are also declining at the federal level. Uncertainties about fiscal policy, notably about the resolution of the so-called fiscal cliff and the lifting of the debt ceiling, are probably also restraining activity, although the magnitudes of these effects are hard to judge.”

Bernanke explained that further quantitative easing could have a substantial impact on employment, and even argued that earlier rounds of large-scale asset purchases led to the creation of two million more private sector jobs than the economy would’ve produced on its own.

    Hola POU!

This is just a quick pop in because I’m hosting the familia this weekend but I had a few things to share.

I went to the big ‘groceria’ because I needed big stuff to feed lots of people. I ran into a woman I used to work with that I had not seen since I retired. We were not close. She was a bit of a gorgon, harsh, not unfair but not a bit diplomatic either and not approving of “friendships in the work place”. She looked me up & down & said:

“You look good. (Gracias, I think) Family doing well? (I started to reply & then she said…) You’re a Democrat (fixing me with her laser eye) What did you think of the Republican convention?” Before I could really think I said: “In one word or two”

She laughed (I didn’t know she had that capacity) & proceeded to go into one of the funniest monologues about the RNC, their candidates & Clint Eastwood that I have heard outside professional comedy. We were both laughing so hard. I wish I had a tape recorder because there is no way I could reproduce what she said.

Upshot is that she is also working for OFA & plans to go out for Rich Carmona, our candidate for Kyl’s seat. We are going to meet up because Sis & I are walking for him too. Dang! I always thought she was a Republican. You never know.

Have a great weekend POU Family! I will try to check in if I can ♥

It is always shocking to find the most unexpected people on the correct side of things – our side!

I was at the Trader Joes in my city a few weeks ago and as I leave, there’s this older rough looking redneck couple walking towards the parking lot.

As I drive out, I see them headed my way in this old, long American car and I’m thinking teabaggers no doubt.

And as they sped past me I almost passed out! They had Obama ’08 and 2012 bumper stickers proudly displayed. I almost passed out.

We must keep the faith — and keep doing our darndest.

  • Camille

It infuriates me to no end how the media insists on this Clint Eastwood as icon who had a momentary slip but still cute, narrative.

The man is a first rate racist asshole who has been incredibl insulting to the dignified and honorable President of the United States.

Making and directing movies does not change that most pertinent fact.

And Nia Malika Henderson seems particularly chatty today isn’t she? Cooning louder than ever for the GOP and cheerier than I’ve ever seen her.

Looks like somebody got laid in Tampa.

    • TresL

I truly despise her. She’s always at the ready to defend the GOP. And it seems as though she’s completed her classes at GOP Pundit University because not only was she loud and rude, she talked all over and interrupted David Corn who was making some very good points. I had to struggle to hear him.

She’s convinced the Eastwood debacle was not important. I get so tired of these folks telling me what’s not important to me. This idiot doesn’t seem to get that everything about both candidates reveals who they are and what type of President they would be so it is important witch!

    • Tafr

      Thank you Camille!

Clint Eastwood does not have to prove anything to anyone. He did what he did because as you said he is a racist asshole point blank. No need to sugar coat it, no need to point out that he is an old man. Yes he is an old man and guess what there are quite a few old men that hate this president.

How many times have we heard stories about long time friendships ending because of this president? People saying well I knew so and so for years it was not until this president that so and so showed their true side.

There is nothing rational about hate which is why that Eastwood skiunbelievableveable. Hate will cause you to act a fool. Eastwood is a foolish, hateful, old man. There was nothing cute about that display of hate.
