I have never felt that marriage was the end all, be all for lgbts. I respect folks wanting to get married and I know it’s is very important to those for whom marriage is part of their life plan.
But, maybe now that the president has said what they want him to say, the MARRIAGE IS ALL THAT MATTERS people will acknowledge the 80 cajillion other amazing thing that this administration has done for LGBT folks instead of pretending like gay marriage is the path to liberation for all queers.

The people of North Carolina and California, et all, should be putting as much if not MORE pressure on their locally elected officials to bring marriage equality to their state and not actling like the only way is a presidential decree!
It’s wonderful that he supports gay marriage. Frankly I never believed he didn’t. Anyone with critical thinking skills and the ability to read should have known that the president had supported gay marriage all along. Politics is politics. I ain’t mad at him about playing the game.

But NOW, if every single LesBiGay ranter in the US doesn’t actually do something in their home states to make sure that the FIRST absolutely, without a doubt, GAY POSITIVE SITTING PRESIDENT gets re-elected, then they need to STFU in perpetuity!

Ask not what Barack Obama can do for you…
We should all take it upon ourselves to be INFORMED, fully about how LGBT folks have benefited under this administration and we should be tweeting and FBing, Tumblring, Google+ing the news far and wide to everyone we know all day long till the election.

Because President Obama just painted a target on his own back.
If he felt he needed to say it now, good on him. But he just gave the right and conservatives in this country their smoking gun.
I don’t want to hear another word from gay folks in the public sphere that isn’t about re-electing Barack Obama

    Just saying.

    Beach Boys singer blasts Obama

Wouldn’t it be nice if President Obama lost in November? Beach Boys singer Bruce Johnston thinks so.

“Obama is an a–hole,” Johnston remarked while signing autographs in New York on Thursday, according to video posted on TMZ. “Unless you’re interested in never having any money and being socialized.”

“Wait ’til Obama doesn’t have to try anymore,” Johnston added. “You’re f—-d. Trust me.”

“And who’s the Republican a–hole?” Our guy isn’t good,” the singer went on, presumably referring to former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney.

“You got Reagan and Tip O’Neill … those are the last two good guys,” he said.

As bad as Politico is, Glenn Thrush is so bottom of the sewer hatefully dishonest and trashy, he gives the vomit Drudge report a real run for their money.

Using fucking Glenn Thrush as a “source” for anything—–especially anything that has to do with President Obama, is akin to asking the opening act at a KKK convention to vouch for President Obama’s intelligence, dignity, hard work and citizenship.

Obama’s new view on gays doesn’t faze black voters

ARDMORE, Pa. (AP) — Like many black Americans, Dorsey Jackson does not believe in gay marriage, but he wasn’t disillusioned when Barack Obama became the first president to support it. The windows of his suburban Philadelphia barbershop still display an “Obama 2012” placard and another that reads “We’ve Got His Back.”

If Obama needs to endorse same-sex marriage to be re-elected, said Jackson, so be it: “Look, man – by any means necessary.”

—– —A Chicago jury on Friday convicted Oscar-winner Jennifer Hudson’s former brother-in-law of murdering her mother, brother and 7-year-old nephew in what prosecutors’ described as an act of vengeance by a jilted husband.

Hudson, who expressed her undisguised disdain for William Balfour when she took the witness stand and who endured weeks of excruciating testimony about the October 2008 killings, was visibly overcome with emotion as the verdict was read. Hudson’s eyes filled with tears and she shook her head and bit her lip.

    – – – —The Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (PPACA) passed in 2010 will give millions of Americans access to quality health care and will give low income African-American women access to benefits that they have traditionally been denied. The PPACA is designed to increase opportunities for health coverage for people who are less likely to be insured; because women of color account for 53.3 percent of all uninsured women in America, this is a significant boon to the health outlook for of women of color. By the year 2014, 10.3 million women will have increase access to health coverage; this includes access to preventive health care as well.

Access to preventative services with no cost sharing will aid those who delay preventive care visits due to the financial burden. Increased access to preventative health services will significantly help reduce the onset of particular illnesses like diabetes, obesity, heart disease and even breast cancer, all of which impact African-American women at a disproportionately higher rate than any other racial category.

ABC Renews Shonda Rhimes’ ‘Scandal’ for Second Season

The female-skewing network has given second season orders to Shonda Rhimes’ D.C.-set political fixer drama.
3:47 PM PDT 5/11/2012 by Lesley Goldberg

ABC has renewed freshman drama Scandal for a second season.

The network gave the Kerry Washington-Tony Goldwyn D.C.-set political fixer drama the plum post-Grey’s Anatomy time slot where it has performed well in its limited run.

The Shonda Rhimes drama, which bumped the prolific showrunner’s Private Practice from its longtime home on Thursday nights, has for the most part held on to its Grey’s lead-in viewership. The seven-episode first season has been a format Rhimes has said she enjoys.

Scandal joins scripted series Happy Endings, Grey’s, Suburgatory, Revenge, The Middle, Castle, Modern Family and Once Upon a Time has having been picked up for additional seasons. On the unscripted side, ABC has renewed Dancing With the Stars, Shark Tank, America’s Funniest Home Videos, Wife Swap and The Bachelor for additional runs.

it didn’t get the love that Once Upon A Time did..I’ll be honest, it’s not as well written as OUAT..

  • U.S. fighters intercept plane in restricted Obama airspace

    Fri May 11, 2012 6:37pm EDT

(Reuters) – U.S. F-16 fighters intercepted a small plane that strayed into restricted airspace as President Barack Obama was due to leave Los Angeles on Friday, following a glitzy campaign fundraiser at movie star George Clooney’s home, officials said.

“The fighters responded to a temporary flight restriction violation by a Piper 28 aircraft. After intercepting the aircraft, the F-16s followed it until it landed without incident,” the North American Aerospace Defense Command said in a statement.

The statement said the plane was met by local law enforcement after it landed at 9:50 a.m. PDT/1650 GMT. Obama had been scheduled to fly out of Los Angeles at around 10:15 a.m. PDT/1715 GMT en route to Nevada, according to a schedule posted on the White House website.

      • rikyrah

I thought the segment was on point, and folks should post it

        • Alexander2

I watched the segment on video and I have to strongly push back. I was deeply offended.

Dyson is substituting for Ed Shultz. What percent of Ed’s audience is African American? 10%, at most 20%? So, this segment was directed to white progressive viewers, not American American viewers. The people he was pretending to address were not watching.

From there, he portrays the black church as a sewer of homophobia. I quote:

“Do we want to become sexual orientation rednecks.”

He’s is posing that question about blacks to an 80-90% white viewing audience.

The NAACP in North Carolina along with a strong coalition of African American churches were working to defeat Amendment One. I repeat. The NAACP in North Carolina along with a strong coalition of African American churches were working to defeat Amendment One.

Doesn’t sound like a sewer of Black church homophobia, does it?

Then he brings on Bishop Harry Jackson to illustrate the sewer of homophobia in the black church. How do I know Bishop Harry Jackson? He was on Rev. Al’s show. Rev. Al pushed him and got him to admit that he did not vote for President Obama in 2008.

So, we have a black man in front of an 80-90% white audience portraying the black church as a sewer of homophobia, in the face of very recent and very poignant counter examples.

During slavery, reconstruction, and well into the 20th century, whites liberals in the North who did not have daily contact with AA’s formed their views about AA’s through minstrel shows, black face, blacks doing the cake walk, etc.

Dyson was doing a cake walk in front of a 90% white audience. There was no nuance there. That 90% white audience has been entertained and their racial stereotypes have been reinforced.

Alex’s Lounge is closed tonight. Let’s all do the cakewalk!

She’s joined by Bishop Harry Jackson, Dr. Michael Waters, and author and professor, Rev. Michael Eric Dyson.

    — – –Rep. Allen West Claims LGBT Workplace Discrimination ‘Don’t Happen’ And Doesn’t ‘See That As Being A Big Issue’ – —

    — – –Rep. Allen West (R-FL), no stranger to controversy, declared on Thursday that gay people are never fired because of their sexual orientation in the United States.

“That don’t happen out here in the United States of America,” West told ThinkProgress during an interview on Capitol Hill.

When we pressed the Florida congressman for clarification, he dismissed the importance of protecting LGBT people from discrimination. “I don’t see that as being a big issue with small businesses,” West said.

KEYES: What about something like a law that say that it’s illegal to hire or fire people because they’re gay?

WEST: That don’t happen out here in the United States of America.

KEYES: You don’t think people get fired because they’re gay?

WEST: Well, I don’t see that as being a big issue with small businesses. I sit on the Small Business Committee. You know what they’re concerned about? They’re concerned about onerous tax policy, regulatory policy, and lack of access to capital because Dodd-Frank is absolutely decimating small community banks.

    – – – –Pres. Obama Travels to Reno to Discuss Home Mortgages – –

    – – – –President Obama concluded his two-day trip to the West Coast with a visit to Reno, Nevada where he spoke about his homeowner refinancing plan.

He met with local residents Val and Paul Keller who have personally benefited from the refinancing changes the President announced last October.

As part of his “To Do List” for Congress, the President has been urging lawmakers to cut red tape so that responsible homeowners who have been paying their mortgages on time can refinance at today’s lower rates.

    – –THIS – ->According to the White House, refinancing applications have increased 50 percent nationwide since the President’s announcement last fall.

    – – –More Labor Unions Express Support for Obama’s Endorsement for Marriage Equality – – –

    – – – – –Yesterday, I reported that several major labor unions expressed support for Barack Obama’s statement that he supports the right of all Americans to marry, regardless of their sexual orientation. More unions expressed their support for the president and marriage equality in a move that, as I pointed out yesterday, is good for Obama, for unions and for LGBT Americans:

This is a great development for a number of reasons. One, it’s a clear statement from unions that they recognize that LGBT families are working families, too. Two, it gives Obama strong public support on an issue that he is certain to be attacked on. Third, it is a good way to attract new people to the labor movement who might have otherwise not paid much attention to unions because they had other issues that were more important to them. If it is clear that unions support LGBT families — which it is — there is more reason for people to move out of issue silos, recognizing that they have allies they can work together with to improve everybody’s situation.

UNITE HERE President John Wilhelm (via press release):

We applaud President Obama’s statement in support of marriage equality. Our members support full equality for LGBT Americans in all matters governed by civil law, and we are grateful for the President’s
courage and leadership. Today the United States took an important step towards fulfilling the Constitution’s promise of equal protection under the law. UNITE HERE stands with working families of all descriptions in the ongoing struggle for social and economic justice.

by the way, what does “meta meta” even mean?

    • conlakappa

In his mind, he and she are media people who were talking about media people talking about media coverage. So media talking about earlier reports = meta, the two of them talking about that meta = meta meta. We all know his dumbass was deployed to act outraged. How badly must one suck if he cannot even get that right?
