Friday Evening Thread: Livin For The Weekend

Welcome to the weekend Obots! Ah, come on wit it now!

Monday to Thursday
I’m dead on my feet
Most of the time
Too tired to eat
When I try to read the paper
I fall fast asleep

But as soon as Friday rolls around
I lay all my weekly burdens down
I put on my glad rags
And paint the town!

The full version – Enjoy!

      Hilarity will ensue lol.

  • I enjoy watching Mark Sawyer shut down Davey D’s faux revolutionary bitchassness: http://twitter.com/mrdaveyd/status/249226504473554944

    • trose1

So those who don’t vote are going to start a revolution? smdh

      • Davey D was defending Lupe Fiasco’s latest tirade about not voting. *smh* I can’t with weak ass negroes.

        • Camilke

          Lupe Fiasco is an idiot.

Only desperate fools in the media would elevate a non entity like Lupe Fiasco to a level where his self-serving opinions which is theater at best and only for the purposes of carving out a niche for himself and to sell his music, are actually considered worthy of discussion and of great import.

Lupe Fiasco and his opinions are to President Obama, what David Archuleta’s would be to Mitt Romney.

And we know that nobody will be out there rushing to dissect Archuleta’s opinions and thoughts on Romney and politics.

          • GN

Let me go further. Lupe Fiasco is the classic fauxgressive. He saw what happening in his city in which boys are slaughtering each other with guns. So he was like, “wow that’s wrong.” And the universe did not instantly bow to change , and so he threw up his hands and (this is why I can’t STAND the PL) he gave up. Either instant utopia or these useless allies of ours will leave the field and curse us for seeking progress when utopia can’t be reached in an instant.

Davey D is an idiot. And so is Lupe. Neither are visionaries.

          • Town

Lupe Fiasco is weak. After Chief Keef (who?) called him a bitch ass n*gga, Lupe decided to retire from the rap game. How you gonna be a revolutionary when you fold down at the first clap back on your azz?

      • creolechild

I didn’t know a revolution could be started from the comforts of your living room! (smirk)

    • Worldwatcher7

Apparently the exchange is still going on. Sawyer’s raw logic in the face of cookie cutter faux-revolutionary bravado is giving me life.

  • Michelle Obama Sees ‘Bromance’ Bill Clinton Has Denied
    By Devin Dwyer

First Lady Michelle Obama says she sees signs of a flourishing “bromance” between her husband, President Obama, and former President Bill Clinton, even though the 42nd president earlier this month denied that their relationship deserves the label.

“Bill Clinton has been an important adviser, friend and supporter for a very long time,” Mrs. Obama tells “Access Hollywood” in an interview that aired this week.

She called the hug between Clinton and her husband on stage at the Democratic National Convention a “public display of the bromance.”

      • GN

The media has been working overtime to make what could be a wonderful collaboration into a contest. It’s ridiculous. Bill Clinton delivered a terrific speech and because he’s not front in center in the partisan battles, there are people who will listen to him. Why does the media insist that this must come at the expense of recognizing President Obama’s sheer greatness?

By Daniel Strauss – 09/21/12 06:55 PM ET

Chicago police have charged someone from the south suburbs of Chicago with stealing multiple checks from the Obama campaign’s national headquarters totaling $50,000.

According to The Chicago Tribune, Willard Elam was charged with stealing the checks from the campaign headquarters. Elam was charged with one count of “continuing a financial enterprise” according to the Chicago newspaper report.

Police reportedly also have another person in custody and are looking for a third.

The Koch brothers, Sheldon Adelson, Steve Wynn, Donald Trump, Dick Cheney, Jamie Dimon and the other looters and hostage takers who have brazenly boasted that they are sitting on their stolen loot – our money – and that they will keep attacking and destroying America if we do not give them what they want. The freedom to continue to loot and destroy America but this time making it legal and lawful to do so courtesy of their boy Mitt Romney.

‘Knitting Behind Bars’ group works with minimum security men’s prison in Baltimore

[….] Chippendale saw Zwerling’s idea as an avenue for “restorative justice,” a way for prisoners to give back to the community they had harmed. That, she decided, was worth the risks. She asked some of the inmates she knew best to show up for Zwerling’s first class. In the weeks that followed, they returned on their own to make “comfort dolls” for children at a local domestic violence shelter.[….]

Jessup’s Knitting Behind Bars program is too recent to have had a quantifiable impact on the recidivism rates of its participants. Rovelstad and Zwerling have heard from about a dozen who are out in the world and doing well. But the program’s most measurable impact may be the changes in participants while they’re still incarcerated, a degree of tranquility that spills over into the rest of the prison.[….]

This is a great share. When I was a kiddo my family knew an old guy, a Brit, who learned to knit in WWI because the troops often made their own socks & wool hats or they would have gone with out. He kept on knitting after because he said it was wonderfully relaxing. He expanded his skills & made the most beautiful sweaters. He made some for my family.

I use to knit a lot but don’t do that much any more except to teach others.

Why is Facebook all up in people’s business?

Facebook has confirmed to TPM that for the past several months, it has been surveying users about their Friends’ usernames, asking if the usernames are “your friend’s real name” or not.[….]

The actual question posed by Facebook is phrased decidedly more delicately: “Please help us understand how people are using Facebook,” it reads. “Your response is anonymous and won’t affect your friend’s account. Is this your friend’s real name?” It then gives users four options: “Yes,” “No,” “I don’t know this person,” and “I don’t want to answer.”

Facebook declined to specify the size of the new survey, whether it was restricted to certain countries and if so, which ones, and how long it could proceed.[….]

OK, there is no reason for any Dem Senate candidate not to be hanging Romney around the neck of their opponent like cement block.

LAS VEGAS — There were nearly as many Dean Heller T-shirts as Romney-Ryans on the Republican faithful waiting patiently outside Mitt Romney’s rally Friday at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas.
But there was no Dean Heller.

Heller, a first-term Republican senator running in a too-close-to-call election, was inside as Romney spoke. He had his own schedule of events on Friday that precluded him from attending the Vegas rally, according to his campaign, which said he isn’t trying to dodge his party’s presidential nominee.

But Heller hasn’t appeared alongside Romney since a fundraiser in the late spring — and GOP operatives in the state weren’t surprised that Heller, running as an independent-minded moderate, distanced himself from Romney’s hidden-camera comment that Obama supporters represent “47 percent” of voters he could never win.

  • Black pastor against same-sex marriage admits NOM connection
By Chris Johnson on September 21, 2012

In the wake of internal documents from NOM leaked earlier this year, Owens was asked by CNN’s Dan Merica about having a connection with the anti-gay group. The pastor confirmed the anti-gay group compensates him.

“They pay my salary,” Owens said. “My wife … has an earned doctorate from Vanderbilt University and I have three degrees, we make a combined salary of $20,000 a year because they were kind enough to pick us up, because we did not have funds, and they said we can put you in the budget for $20,000. So we are in relationship with them and I’m very proud of it.”

In a follow-up question from CNN on whether he’s a tool for message, Owens replied, “I’m nobody’s tool. Bill Owens is nobody’s tool. They’ve never tried to use me as a tool. They have helped me because I asked for it. I went to them. They didn’t come to me. I went to them and asked them to help us because we needed help. I’m nobody’s tool.”

“Meanwhile Ms. Noonan is still writing snooty gibberish stripped of all reality; gibberish that begins, ” ‘Nothing is written.’ That was T.E. Lawrence to the Arab tribesmen in Robert Bolt’s screenplay, a masterpiece, of ‘Lawrence of Arabia.’ ”

Alex Castellanos, who worked for Mitt Romney in 2008 and continues to be a Republican political consultant, tells Politico’s Maggie Haberman that he is not impressed with the optics of Romney’s tax dump move:

“At first I thought this was an April Fool’s Joke,” said Castellanos, who tweeted something to that effect at me earlier. “But it isn’t April. I can’t imagine that David Axelrod will now say, I’m glad Mitt put this issue behind him. This will drag Mitt’s taxes back into the debate. And there’s not many days left. – — –10 Questions Romney Must Answer About His Taxes – —

    – – –On Friday afternoon, the Romney campaign released the candidate’s 2011 tax return, which showed that he paid a tax rate of approximately 14 percent on more than $13 million of reported income. The campaign also disclosed that Romney voluntarily forfeited about $1.8 million in charitable deductions to inflate the tax rate he would have to disclose to the public. The campaign continues to refuse to release returns prior to 2010, flunking an accepted standard of transparency, first established by Mitt’s father George Romney, of releasing multiple years’ returns.

In a blog post, Romney’s lawyer and the trustee of his “blind trust” said, “After you have reviewed all of the newly-posted documents, you may have further questions.” Yes, we do. Lots.

Here are 10 unanswered questions about Romney’s taxes:

    1. After the election, when the subject of your tax returns is outside of the public glare, will you file an amended tax return to claim your full deduction of charitable contributions? Was the tax rate you reported for other years similarly manipulated?

    2. Why was your 2011 income $7 million lower than you estimated it to be in January? How does someone overestimate their income by $7 million?

    3. Financial disclosures show that you have as much as $82 million in your tax-deferred Individual Retirement Account, despite the fact that tax rules limited contributions into such accounts to $30,000 per year. Did you lowball the value of the assets you put into your IRA, as tax experts suspect? And did you do the same with gifts into your sons’ trusts?

    4. What was the purpose of your Swiss bank account and the myriad offshore entities shown on your return, based in countries like the Cayman Islands and Luxembourg, if not to avoid taxes?

Democratic Donors Awaken as Romney Seeks New Cash

Politico: “Mitt Romney was expected to use a billionaire-fueled fundraising juggernaut to crush President Barack Obama’s once vaunted small-donor army. But things haven’t gone according to plan.”

“Headed into the home stretch of the 2012 presidential race, it is Obama who looks to have an edge, thanks to an awakening donor base, aggressive summer spending on ads and ground game, and a Romney hoarding strategy that left him with plenty of cash in the bank, but not much to show for it.”

New York Times: “Mitt Romney entered the final months of the presidential campaign with a cash balance of just $35 million, racing to find new large donors and rally low-dollar contributors in August even while he raised tens of millions of dollars for the Republican Party.”

NPR jumped the shark a while back. It is disgraceful!

During the Democratic convention in Charlotte, they had this asshole of a woman Jennifer Ludden hosting an NPR version of FOX news anti-Obama roundtable.
