    Good Morning, Everyone :)

      Good morning rikyrah :)

      Good morning, rikyrah!

Good morning, POU, and Happy Friday! Texas State Fair starts today! Corny dogs and fried Nutella…woot!

    • conlakappa

Nutella in any form is the yummy. Isn’t that a bit, dunno, citified for the Texas State Fair? Now, a fried kolache I can imagine.

      • rigoletta

What about the fried butter somebody came up with a couple years ago?

        • Daltex82
          • conlakappa

I need an angioplasty to just get through the descriptions! Bacon is the fake trend that will never die, it seems. The Nutella photo is beautiful but, my heart just might not go on!

          • pamelabrown53

I have never tried nutella but it sounds delicious. I put it on the grocery list then my partner told me it has about twice the fat and calories of peanut butter. So I scrapped it.

If I ever come to your house :-) and you have some Nutella, might I have a taste?

            Happy Friday, POU.

          • Alma98

            LOL

          • conlakappa

Ha! I was actually given a sample of a “natural Nutella-like product” at the green festival on Saturday. It’s a packet that I haven’t opened yet. I wonder if it touts a claim of being less caloric. If so, I’ll let you know the result of the taste test.

          • Daltex82

            LOL!

      • Joy

LOL…well I am in Dallas, which is basically a Democratic county. Most of the elected officials are Dems, including our black DA. I know whenever I go to the store, the Nutella’s either gone or almost gone. Can’t wait to try the fried version…it’s spread in phyllo dough with almonds and honey and fried…mmmm….

        • conlakappa

Um, IIRC, kolache country isn’t too far from you! I’ve taken that ride from Waco to Dallas, m’dear. It was special. I didn’t know you all had gotten sadity in the interim. The recipe sounds fascinating. Please report, assuming you can move to type afterwards!

    Please somebody…go get Kanye…

Kanye West goes after Jimmy Kimmel on Twitter over BBC interview spoof, late night host responds: ‘Right now we’re at DefKanye Five’

The ‘Yeezus’ rapper launched a tirade of tweets Thursday night knocking Jimmy Kimmel for poking fun at an interview West did with BBC in which he boasted he was the No. 1 rock star on the planet.
    UPDATED: FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 27, 2013, 8:44 AM

Kanye West can’t take a joke.

The “Yeezus” rapper launched a Twitter war with Jimmy Kimmel Thursday night, venting over the late-night funnyman poking fun at him for boasting of being the No. 1 rock star on the planet in a BBC interview.

“Jimmy Kimmel is out of line to try and spoof in any way the first piece of honest media in years,” Kanye tweeted in capital letters. “I don’t take it as a joke … You don’t have scum bags hopping over fences trying to take pictures of your daughter. Jimmy Kimmel, put yourself in my shoes.”

The Twitter explosion came a day after a skit on ABC’s “Jimmy Kimmel Live” featured two bratty kids reenacting his BBC Radio 1 interview.

    • conlakappa

So, Kanye has wandered into Donald Trump territory in his inability to take parody/laugh at himself? Not a good look. He should think North West’s nana for the hyping of the baby.

    • rigoletta

‘Ye needs to have his own entry under egomania in the DSM. ALL CAPS tweets and everything.

Jimmy Kimmel does this stuff all the time and personally I find it funny. If Kanye wasn’t such a douche he probably would have him on the show reading angry tweets for laughs.

Kimmel seems to get along with celebrities well as far as I can tell so he can’t make this personal.

As far as being the No. 1 rock star, please. The King of Pop has generated 1 BILLION dollars worth of revenue dead which far surpasses anything Kanye has done musically or financially.

    • Daltex82

He really, really needs to get over himself.

    • sagittarius

He really, really needs therapy. He hasn’t fully grieved his mother’s passing and it shows in ALL of his actions since that time.

      • Miranda

It sure does. Where is the rest of his family? aunts? uncles? cousins? play cousins?

Cruz, Corker clash on Senate floor

The months-long divide in ideology and tactics splintering Senate Republicans was laid bare on the Senate floor Thursday in an incredibly rare, heated exchange between three senators.

The only thing separating them being a singleSenate desk, Sens. Ted Cruz (R-Tex.), Mike Lee (R-Utah) and Bob Corker (R-Tenn.) engaged in what Senate rules deem a “colloquy,” but what most observers would call anold-style public airing of grievances.

Obama administration plans $320 million to aid Detroit recovery
By Justin Sink – 09/27/13 08:45 AM ET

Top Obama Administration officials will head to Detroit on Friday to announce nearly $320 million in new federal and private aid as the city grapples with the largest municipal bankruptcy in American history.

The aid includes money for housing rehabilitation and demolition, some $30 million targeted to fight crime and reduce the city’s notoriously long emergency response times, and millions more to rehabilitate the city’s transportation network.

The aid package will be announced Friday by HUD Secretary Shaun Donovan, Transportation Secretary Anthony Foxx, Attorney General Eric Holder, and White House Economic Council director Gene Sperling.

Senate to vote on funding bill, leaving Boehner tough choices – –

The Senate will vote Friday on legislation to keep the government funded, setting up a weekend showdown with the House and tough choices for Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio).

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) has scheduled a series of four votes beginning at 12:30 p.m., one of which will strip language defunding ObamaCare from the stopgap spending measure.

    — -Boehner will have to decide how to respond knowing any substantive changes to the Senate bill heightens the likelihood of a government shutdown.

Senate aides said senators would leave town for the weekend but remain on alert to return to Washington on short notice in case the House acts quickly.

Wendy Davis, of filibuster fame, to run for Texas governor.

AUSTIN, Texas (Reuters) – Wendy Davis, the Texas state senator who staged a filibuster against abortion restrictions, has begun telling supporters she will run for governor against a well-financed Republican in what could be one of the top matchups in the 2014
    U.S. elections.

Davis, 50, gained national attention when she talked for nearly 11 hours on the Texas Senate floor in June to temporarily block new restrictions on abortion.

Highly placed Texas Democrats, who asked that they not be identified because Davis will not make a formal announcement until October 3, said they have been alerted by Davis directly or through her staff that she has decided to run.

“The short answer is, of course she’s running for governor,” one influential Texas operative said. “I’m impressed that they’ve been able to maintain secrecy for this long.”

A second Democratic operative said he has been discussing strategy with Davis’s staff about an inevitable run for governor.
Asked about the reports, Davis adviser Hector Nieto said: “She has made her decision and is looking forward to making that decision public.”

Texas has not elected a Democrat to statewide office in two decades. Davis is expected to face a formidable Republican opponent in Texas Attorney General Greg Abbott. Republican Governor Rick Perry is not running for re-election.

Davis’s filibuster drew huge nationwide interest and several websites streamed it live. The filibuster ultimately failed to stop the abortion proposal from becoming law because Republicans hold a strong majority in the Texas legislature.

In the days after the filibuster, Davis quickly raised about $1 million, but Abbott has a monumental lead in fund-raising with a war chest of nearly $25 million.

Jason Stanford, a prominent Democratic consultant in Austin, said he believes Davis would be able to raise the needed money as long as she can close some recent poll numbers showing her behind Abbott.

“I think what they need to see is her running close and having a real shot,” he said. “The last poll I saw showed her running 10 points behind. That will be the most expensive 10 points to close up, but I think it is doable.”

Democrats also hope Davis will energize their party in a state dominated by Republicans, but with a rising population of Hispanics who have tended to vote Democratic.

    ACA POSITIVITY!

    — —The truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth about Obamacare – —

    – – – — A few days ago I submitted a series of extremists local newspaper headlines designed to frightened, misrepresent and persuade readers to turn against the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (Obamacare or ACA if you prefer). I pledged to rebut these special interest propaganda pieces stat.

Here’s what Obamacare is and is not, phony headlines notwithstanding. It is not socialized medicine. The government does not control the means of producing ACA health insurance or drugs, both private enterprises, with very few exceptions involving state catastrophic insurance and the like. Blue Cross and Blue Shield plan to be a huge player in virtually every state health-exchange. Other major insurers are taking a more measured approach but their presence is virtually guaranteed.

Of this I can assure my readers; if subscribers to right-wing papers just skim headlines and subsequent stories, they don’t know s**t about Obamacare. Sadly, they aren’t in the least bit shy about spreading their ignorance around. Question! What are ACOs? If you voted Republican, you don’t know. If you take Obamacare seriously enough to research and learn, you’re aware that an ACO is an Accountable Care Organization, a lynchpin to corral health care costs. These are doctors and hospitals working in a network setting to best serve a large population of patients at a reasonable cost. It’s a thoughtful, intelligent approach to health care that’s been pretty much kept hidden from the public
    domain.

I won’t forgive or forget the boogedy-boogedy-healthcare-in-Canada-is-scary nonsense they did during the healthcare debate. Something so basic, fundamental, and necessary shouldn’t be so hard to get across.

      • Town

This is why the CBC is useless. They should have been educating their constituents about ObamaCare (seeing as most of them are in “SAFE” districts & they didn’t need to worry about some GOP knocking them off their spot).

Instead they go around giving themselves awards & concerts & running to the nearest mic complaining about how Obama talks to them.

        • conlakappa

I was looking on the page for the Raucous Weekend to see if the program included something about it. Because the event is now past, the link doesn’t live. I see the Hispanic Caucus has it on its upcoming agenda. They took the model the CBC created and ran with it years ago.

Gird your loins for this, which is on the front page of the Raucous Weekend site:

Thousands of attendees from across the
country and around the world attend this four-day conference to learn about the challenges and opportunities facing black America and the Diaspora. ALC provides the platform for collaboration and policy development to occur among international, national, state and local leaders and their constituents through regional forums, national summits, and policy-centered conferences. This year’s ALC theme, It Starts With You, is a call to action to be and lead the positive change needed in public policy. ALC provides an African-American perspective on public policy with thought-provoking and educational policy forums, community education workshops and policy briefs.

          Coupled with CBCF’s stellar Leadership
Institute for Public Service (LIPS), which has provided thousands of internships and fellowships as well as CBCF’s more than $10 million in scholarships awarded to African-American students, CBCF has become the
standard bearer of changing the landscape on Capitol Hill.

    CNN’s Diversity Council Changing Leadership
Will the network dissolve the group under Jeff Zucker’s leadership?

The leadership of CNN’s Diversity Council is changing, with Johnita P. Due, its longtime chair, stepping down and Maria Ebrahimji, its vice chair, leaving the network, a CNN spokeswoman said on Thursday.

The change at the council, coupled with criticism of CNN’s diversity record since Jeff Zucker became CNN president last year, led to a report that Zucker had disbanded the group. Scott Jones, of the blog ftvlive.com reported Thursday, “EXCLUSIVE: Zucker Pulls Plug on CNN’s Diversity Council.”

Christal Jones, a CNN spokeswoman, said that report was incorrect. Due, who is assistant general counsel and chief diversity adviser at CNN Worldwide, is “transitioning out” of the council role, Jones said, and Ebrahimji is “leaving the network to pursue other opportunities.”

Kentucky Guv To GOP: Obamacare Is The Law, So ‘Get Over It’
    SEPTEMBER 27, 2013, 9:38 AM EDT

Kentucky Gov. Steve Beshear (D) had a sharp message Thursday for congressional Republicans, including those from his home state, opposed to Obamacare: “get over it.”

    My State Needs Obamacare. Now.
    By STEVE BESHEAR

FRANKFORT, Ky. — SUNDAY morning news programs identify Kentucky as the red state with two high-profile Republican senators who claim their rhetoric represents an electorate that gave President Obama only about a third of its presidential vote in 2012.

So why then is Kentucky — more quickly than almost any other state — moving to implement the Affordable Care Act?

Because there’s a huge disconnect between the rank partisanship of national politics and the outlook of governors whose job it is to help beleaguered families, strengthen work forces, attract companies and create a balanced budget.

Tiger Named PGA Player Of The Year
    Friday 27 September 2013

World number one Tiger Woods has been named PGA Tour Player of the Year for a record 11th time.

Despite not adding to his tally of 14 majors in 2013, Woods enjoyed an excellent time on the PGA Tour with five victories from the 16 events he started.
Those wins – at the Farmers Insurance Open, Arnold Palmer Invitational, WGC-Cadillac Championship, Players Championship and WGC-Bridgestone Invitational – were enough to give Woods the nod over major winners Adam Scott and Phil Mickelson as well as FedEx Cup champion Henrik Stenson.

    CNN IS FULL OF SHIT
    ——————————–
CNN said Friday that Newt Gingrich is not in breach of its policies on financial contribution and disclosure–because the policy was different than it previously described.

Gingrich, who is now a “Crossfire” co-host, came under scrutiny from Media Matters for his apparent violation of the network’s rules, which stated that, whenever someone he or his PAC had given money to was a guest on his show, Gingrich had to disclose that fact.

“If Newt is helping fund a candidate and that candidate’s on the show, or being discussed on the show, of course he’ll disclose that,” Rick Davis, the network’s chief ethics and standards enforcer, said. “Disclosure is important when it’s relevant.”

Gingrich didn’t do this when two people his PAC has donated to, Rand Paul and Ted Cruz, appeared on “Crossfire” or were discussed on the show, respectively.

On Friday, though, Davis told the media watchdog that his earlier statement was not operative:

We are clarifying the policy and making it clear Newt Gingrich is not in violation. The policy: If a Crossfire co-host has made a financial contribution to a politician who appears on the program or is the focus of the program, disclosure is not required during the show since the co-host’s political support is obvious by his or her point of view expressed on the program.

The new rules mean that Gingrich could fund a political campaign, have the candidate or politician on his nationally televised cable news show, and not have to tell viewers he was giving the candidate money.

    • Alma98

CNN knew Newt was gonna do what he wants to. So they can quit with the Pollyanna crap.

Pelosi: Impossible To Negotiate With House GOP Share
    SEPTEMBER 27, 2013, 11:22 AM EDT

House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi sought Friday to lay the blame for a possible government shutdown on congressional Republicans, saying that they refused to negotiate on the issue.

Pelosi pointed to the GOP’s inability to reconcile their competing factions as the reason that the federal government is a few days away from shutting down.

“It’s impossible for Democrats to negotiate with House Republicans when they can’t negotiate with themselves,” Pelosi told reporters. “We don’t know what we’re going to vote on from one minute to the next because I don’t think they know what they’re going to vote on.”

“I don’t know that they even know what they’re doing,” she added.

    Blunt: Don’t reject health exchanges
Senator says opposition to Obamacare shouldn’t lead Missourians to go without insurance
    Sep. 27, 2013

WASHINGTON — Sen. Roy Blunt, R-Mo., said Thursday that Missourians should not boycott the new health care exchanges just because they don’t like Obamacare.

Blunt’s comments put him at odds with Lt. Gov. Peter Kinder, who is discouraging Missourians from signing up for insurance through the new online marketplaces created under the health reform law.

Blunt is a leading critic of the health care law, and he predicted the exchanges and other elements of the law will not work as the Obama administration has promised. But that doesn’t mean people should go without insurance, he said.

      REALITY IS A BITCH

  • JB20005

“Obama is one of those who mistake their good luck for genius.”

-George Will in the Washington ComPost.

It’s just not possible that the black guy could ever be smarter or savvier than his opponents, who have been trying to bring him down for 5-years now. He’s just so darned lucky.

Otherwise, guys like George Will would have to question everything they were ever taught about white supremacy.

    • Alma98

It helps them better at night, they hate the fact that PBO is smarter than them.

    • gn

lol, I’m actually giggling at the envy and spite. Haters must hate. They must. They have to. They can’t not hate. We see you, George Will. Stay mad!

      http://www.reactiongifs.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/11/Oprah_relaxin.gif

That said, President Obama is one of the least vain people on the national scene, hands down. He doesn’t fake modesty or pretend that he’s not gifted, but he spends very little time cataloging his achievements and is always very quick to credit other people for his work.

      • JojoRaze

Best GIF ever! And so fitting. They are so mad the president is black and gifted that they end up looking awful after the shade they try to throw at him. Instead he’s like O in this GIF, laying in the shade with a glass of lemomade.

        • conlakappa

They also know that he’s only gotten started on what he wants to do. He’s young and hopefully has years ahead of him so it’s not just his presidency that they are being stank about but also what comes after. They are trying to jack with the brand, however foolish the effort.

          • itgurl_29

Exactly. Like I said once, President Obama is not going to be just another former President doing typical former President things. He’s going to be much bigger than that and I think he’ll be a Mandela-like figure for the world.

    • conlakappa

      One of those… what, George?

George Will is one of those white men with beady eyes and heads full of hair who mistake their [mistakes his seems more grammatically correct but, gosh, I'm sure you know] parent’s professorship as an indication of their own intellect. We square now?

    • rikyrah

I’ll say it today, tomorrow, and for the next 30 years..
Barack Hussein Obama II is a Black Man that was ELECTED
      President of the United States.

That’s all anyone needs to know about Obama’s capabilities.

Poll: GOP Voters Unsure If Twitter Lets Obama Post More Than 140 Characters
    SEPTEMBER 27, 2013, 12:53 PM EDT

Former White House spokesman Ari Fleischer backed off on his suggestion earlier this week that Twitter allows President Barack Obama to use more than 140 characters in his tweets, but some Republican primary voters evidently still have doubts.

Democratic-leaning Public Policy Polling tested Fleischer’s debunked and ultimately retracted conspiracy theory in a survey released Friday, finding support and uncertainty among Republicans nationwide. The poll showed that 13 percent of GOP primary voters think Twitter does permit Obama to exceed the 140 character limit while a majority — 52 percent — said they weren’t sure. Thirty-six percent said they don’t think Obama enjoys a larger character limit than the rest of Twitter users.

The former press secretary under George W. Bush was widely ridiculed after he said that a tweet from the @BarackObama Twitter account — which is run by Organizing for Action — had gone over the 140-character limit and wondered if the president gets to “play by different rules.”

But there were actually only 136 characters in the tweet that Fleischer questioned and, moments later, he was forced to walk back his suggestion.
