Saturday Afternoon Thread: Romnesia – It Wasn’t Me!

President Obama breaks down Mitt Romney’s case of “Romnesia.”

Apparently Romney’s campaign theme song is:

  • Miranda

Whoopi Goldberg faces Twitter hate after Ann Romney ‘View’ interview Whoopi Goldberg faced a barrage of angry and insulting tweets from Mitt Romney supporters following a segment on “The View” featuring Ann Romney and one of the five Romney sons.

On the Thursday episode of the weekday talk show, Goldberg asked Ann Romney why none of the Romney men, including her husband and sons, have never served in the military, inquiring whether the reason for Romney’s lack of service during the Vietnam was due to a religious deferment based on his Mormon faith. more here:

I agree. Whoopi has to wade through caca on that show. I don’t know why she puts up with it but that question was so subtle & a bit self-deprecating that Annie Boo Boo walked right in, sat down, made herself at home & showed her ugly magic underwear. Maybe Whoopi is learning from PBO.

Miss Ann’s response pissed off veteran’s groups, military & their families. It also showed out the Mormons or at least Mormonism as practiced by the Robme family.

That’s why Repugnants are so pissed at Whoopi. I think I will send her a kind email.

        • GreenLadyHere

          Aquagrany – – -GR8 idea. :>) —-

    • Whoopi screwed up that question because she was too busy trying to frame so as to not piss off Babwa Wawa and Bill Geddie. She should’ve came on out and said how Romney protested the protestors of the Vietnam War, and how he used his “mission” work as an excuse to get out of the draft because he had ran out of deferments.

And that’s not that she’s calling out the racism of the Republican party on Twitter, but I would prefer that she call out their racism when Elisabitch starts going into her GOP tirades.

      • Miranda

Yeah, she completely fouled up the real sleaziness of Romney being on his “mission” after puttin on his tweed blazer and holding up a poster board admonishing others to sacrifice their lives on his behalf.

          • Aquagranny911

LOL at the “yummy food” I have real problems prying Sis from the feasts at Grijalva’s HQ. The other day I told her she looked like she was putting on weight & might not fit my/her favorite blue dress anymore. I have to shame the brat to keep her working.

I, too, hope no one was rude to that sweet cherub but she must be a strong kiddo with strong parents to even want to do this. I do prefer door to door canvass. It is a wee bit more difficult for folks to be so rude while looking me in the eye but it does happen.

    — – –How The Model Tax Plan Romney Cited Could Raise One Middle-Class Woman’s Taxes By $6,000– –

    – — –Throughout the campaign, Mitt Romney has refused to give details when asked how he plans to pay for his nearly $4.8 trillion in tax cuts. In Tuesday night’s debate, audience member Mary Follano asked Romney how his plan could affect her personal taxes. She specifically asked how his plan would affect tax benefits like education credits, which she said are “important to me because I have children in college.”

Romney didn’t answer her question, offering only a vague proposal on limiting certain deductions that wouldn’t come close to paying for his total tax plan. But on Thursday, to bolster its claims that a “Romney-style tax plan” could be made to add up, the Romney campaign pointed to a tax plan presented in a 2006 report from Congress’s Joint Committee on Taxation (JCT). As ThinkProgress reported earlier, the tax plan Romney is holding up as a model would eliminate nearly all middle-class tax breaks:

    – – – – SNIP — – —

    – –The bottom line: She’d pay more than $10,000 under Romney’s model plan — about $6,000 more than she does now and about $6,000 more than she would pay under President Obama’s plan.

This is just one example of how such a plan would raise middle-class taxes, and every taxpayer would be different. As the JCT study finds, however, the middle-class as a whole would be big losers in a “Romney-style tax plan.” To be sure, Romney has not said this is his plan. But given that he hasn’t said what his plan is, it’s the best that voters have to go on.

      • Alma98

The republicans are putting fake democrats on the ballot for state offices. They did this before and it’s always a couple of weeks before the election. We had a lot of young black progressives win their primaries over old guard democrats. Many of them didn’t do squat for their districts and some even voted with republicans. Republicans are trying to trick folks into voting for them. If they win the republicans can keep up their destruction on the state level. But don’t worry ain’t nobody buying it.

Romney Campaign Clarifies, Still Supports Federal Marriage Amendment

UPDATED: Senior campaign adviser Bay Buchanan said last week that the candidate supports states’ choices. This afternoon, though, she told BuzzFeed he still supports the amendment proposal.

    Chris Geidner BuzzFeed Staff

A top Romney adviser disavowed remarks and a position reported this past week that appeared to be a reversal of the campaign’s support of the Federal Marriage Amendment, which would bar states from allowing same-sex couples to marry.

Although campaign officials did not respond to inquiries prior to publication, Bay Buchanan issued a clarification to BuzzFeed this afternoon following initial publication of this story, writing, “Governor Romney supports a federal marriage amendment to the Constitution that defines marriage as an institution between a man and a woman. Governor Romney also believes, consistent with the 10th Amendment, that it should be left to states to decide whether to grant same-sex couples certain benefits, such as hospital visitation rights and the ability to adopt children. I referred to the Tenth Amendment only when speaking about these kinds of benefits – not marriage.”

In a little-noted comment in the spin room following this past week’s presidential debate in New York, Romney campaign senior adviser Bay Buchanan, the sister of former presidential candidate Pat Buchanan, told The Advocate’s Julie Bolcer, “He very much supports traditional marriage, but he’s also a very strong advocate for the Tenth Amendment. It’s a state issue.”

U.S. Officials Say Iran Has Agreed to Nuclear Talks
    Published: October 20, 2012

WASHINGTON — The United States and Iran have agreed for the first time to one-on-one negotiations over Iran’s nuclear program, according to Obama administration officials, setting the stage for what could be a last-ditch diplomatic effort to avert a military strike on Iran.

…News of the agreement — a result of intense, secret exchanges between American and Iranian officials that date almost to the beginning of President Obama’s term — comes at a critical moment in the presidential contest, just two weeks before Election Day and the weekend before the final debate, which is to focus on national security and foreign policy.

…Moreover, the prospect of one-on-one negotiations could put Mr. Romney in an awkward spot, since he has opposed allowing Iran to enrich uranium to any level — a concession that experts say will probably figure in any deal on the nuclear program.

DAYUM! From the Arkansas Times Editorial: If it’s true that united we stand and divided we fall, America will come crashing down should Mitt Romney be elected president. He’s already declared half the citizenry worthless, and said that as president, he’ll concern himself only with the others. But after hearing from several African-American lawmakers, including Ohio state senator Nina Turner and City Councilwoman Phyllis Cleveland, Clear Channel has now agreed to donate 10 new billboards Councilwoman Cleveland says will help assure voters across the city.

“In close proximity – if possible – to the original billboards that have gone up,” she explains, “the billboard will actually say, `VOTING IS A RIGHT, NOT A CRIME’. The first of those should start going up, probably Monday.”

YA THINK!! – – -> Cleveland says she’d have preferred the original billboards be taken down, but she’s still pleased that Clear Channel sympathized with her complaint and others from the black community.

In a perfect world, Rupert Murdoch would be in jail in England, and barred, for life, from any media ownership in America.

    – – -LOOK!! – – – –‘Red-Blooded’ Murdoch Eyes LA Times, Tribune – – –

    – – —The head of the world’s biggest news company is eying two crown jewels in American journalism: the Los Angeles Times and the Chicago Tribune. In fact, Rupert Murdoch has been in preliminary talks about buying both papers in a purchase of the Tribune Co., according to executives at Murdoch’s media company, News Corp, the LA Times reports. His conservative media empire already includes the Wall Street Journal, New York Post, and Fox News.

–But others are also interested in acquiring the Tribune Co. when it emerges from bankruptcy—possibly late this year—and Murdoch could run afoul of regulators for already owning Fox stations in Chicago and LA. What’s more, News Corp investors may balk over Murdoch’s old-school insistence on buying newspapers in the Internet age.

miranda — –[Apologies ifff a dup] —-ANOTHER ENDORSEMENT —

—-Cleveland Plain Dealer Endorses Obama, Criticizes GOP Belligerence and Swagger — –

    – —- The Cleveland Plain Dealer in the swing state of Ohio endorsed President Obama for a second term today, citing his policies as best for Ohio, noting that’s he’s been met with unbending resistance and belligerence from Republicans and sounding the alarm on etch-a-sketch Mitt Romney’s domestic and foreign policies.

    They write:
Much of what beset America during Obama’s first term lay outside his direct control.
The bobsled slide into recession was in full motion when he took office. The economic calamity has been global; recovery, sporadic and weak. Obama’s attempts to reach across the aisle politically were met with unbending resistance, even belligerence…

Not impressed with Romney’s ever-changing domestic policies or his inability to reign in the extreme elements of his party (Ohio is very aware of Ryan et al’s obstruction to Speaker Boehner’s deficit and debt deals), it’s Romney’s blustering, swaggering foreign policy that raises even more alarms:

Romney’s tendency to bluster on foreign policy provides more cause for doubt. With tens of thousands of young Americans still in harm’s way in Afghanistan, the United States cannot afford to be drawn into new wars without clear national interests at stake or to sap its resources in further open-ended conflicts. The Benghazi killings reveal the risks of an “Arab Spring” in which terrorists have gained new weaponry and new freedom to operate. But these challenges require inventive diplomacy and international engagement, not slogans or swagger

    – – — Rep. Jesse Jackson Jr. (D-IL), who has been mostly out of public view and on medical leave from Congress since June, sent out a robo-call on Saturday with a message for his constituents: “I am human.”

The Chicago Sun-Times’ Lynn Sweet reported that the call came as Jackson was on his way back to the Mayo Clinic in Minnesota for continued treatment for bipolar disorder and that he is unlikely to return to work or his campaign before Election Day. Jackson is also reportedly under federal criminal investigation for alleged misuse of campaign funds, but the probe was not addressed in the call. Instead, he appealed for patience as he works out his medical problems:

Issa didn’t bother to redact the names of Libyan civilians and local leaders mentioned in the cables, and just as with the WikiLeaks dump of State Department cables last year, the administration says that Issa has done damage to U.S. efforts to work with those Libyans and exposed them to physical danger from the very groups that had an interest in attacking the U.S. consulate. […]

One of the cables released by Issa names a woman human rights activist who was leading a campaign against violence and was detained in Benghazi. She expressed fear for her safety to U.S. officials and criticized the Libyan government. […]

    — – – – —This coming Monday, Mitt Romney will be officially nominated as the Republican Presidential candidate. I am encouraging everyone to go to the Romney for President web site and contribute as much as you can to his campaign for President, up to the maximum of $2500.00 per person. I am also encouraging you to contact all of your friends and relatives and ask them to support Romney and to go to the polls and vote on election day.
    —-SKIP –

Romney had called on employers to “make it very clear” how they feel about the candidates. During a call with the National Federation of Independent Businesses (NFIB) first discovered by In These Times, Romney told business owners to “pass… along to your employees” how their jobs might be affected by who wins in November.

After heeding Romney’s advise Allen sent another email asking employees to defer “some or all” of their salary “until December, in order to help the company make a $15 million interest payment.”
