Last-Minute Ohio Directive Could Trash Legal Votes And Swing The ElectionA last-minute directive issued by Ohio Secretary of State Jon Husted could invalidate legal provisional ballots. Ohio is widely viewed as the most critical state for both presidential campaigns and — with some polls showing a close race — the 11th-hour move could swing the entire election.

The directive, issued Friday, lays out the requirements for submitting a provisional ballot. The directive includes a form which puts the burden on the voter to correctly record the form of ID provided to election officials. Husted also instructed election officials that if the form is not filled out correctly by a voter, the ballot should not be counted. more here http://thinkprogress.org/election/2012/11/03/1134981/last-minute-ohio-directive-could-trash-legal-votes-and-swing-the-election/?mobile=nc

    • GN

I don’t think that’s going to swing the election although Husted’s shenanigans have been DISGUSTING.

Ever since Joe Biden kicked his lil ass, he been scared to come out and play!Paul Ryan goes dark on local reportersRENO — In his first eight weeks on the GOP ticket, Paul Ryan blazed his own campaign trail through the living rooms of swing-state voters, sitting for nearly 125 interviews with local television affiliates.

But since the week of the vice presidential debate, Ryan has gone dark on battleground reporters — doing no local television and only a handful of network interviews and syndicated radio shows.

Even Letterman cracked a joke about him last night, noting that the day after Election Day means he can come out of hiding. I think he is trying to play it safe and not risk his House seat.

Advice: Forgo TOD despite the great graphics. Latest panic From Ohio-
A ruling which will be ignored by Husted which posters immediately shark jumped to “tipping the election.”

I am starting to get annoyed for reasons that go beyond the counter effectiveness of panic: where is the faith that a brilliant and tough leader like Obama and Team could predict and handle this criminal behavior? Maybe I am naive. No,I put nothing past the oppo, but THEIR oppo is BHO!

    • GN

Three days out from an election, the stolen election stories are an unwitting form of voter suppression, totally agreed. The solution to the GOP lying and cheating is to GOTV and donate, not get upset and depress others on popular blogs.

      • Gc

THEY don’t depress me with their reports. What does bother me is the lack of faith in Obama. Remember how we used to be teased on DKOS for being believers? Well, screw you Kossacks and the like, I am a believer!

Besides the criminal aspect od it, it all seems so childish. Deal with it Obama haters, we are not the impotent wusses you like to believe. BHO intiated so many sea changes, not the least is the one that redefines and relabels the Democratic party, including the self image of many IN the party.

Early voting is at 63%-36%, and they are playing their usual nervous nellie games.

    • Aquagranny911

Take a deep breath & stay away from all the BS. WE GOT THIS!!! We should all trust & believe by now that our Prez and OFA knows all the tricks & is ready for them.

We even have DOJ presence in AZ. If they are covering us here you can just bet they have OH & FL under the utmost scrutiny. Husted may be lucky he isn’t decorating a jail cell after this along with Scott in FL. Wouldn’t it be fun if they were cell mates?

    • Admiral_Komack

from Kay at Balloon Juice about what’s happening, voting-wise, in Ohio:

      kay Says:

      @lamh35:

They release early voting totals with the rest of the numbers. Early votes in OH are ( technically) absentee ballots. They’re called in-person absentees. They scan all of the absentee ballots at Bds of Elections and release vote totals after the polls close.

Also, on the subject of this post, Subodh Chandra is a great lawyer. He’s the voting rights lawyer who sued on behalf of the unions in this case. He’s smart as hell and incredibly aggressive.

We should be concerned about this, but not freak out. There is going to be litigation on provisional ballots if this is close. Just reconcile yourself to that. We have lots and lots of election lawyers here. We’re ready.

If we win by more than half a point we won’t need to battle over provisionals, but they are going to sue on every issue just in case.

One more thing. Sherrod Brown is a former OH sec of state. He knows as much about OH election process as anyone in the country, and he is ON the ballot. We have two people who have a huge stake here, Obama and Brown. You’re not outnumbered and you’re not victims. You’re well-represented.

These jackals need to be stopped. Is True the Vote Intimidating Minority Voters From Going to the Polls? Teresa Sharp, a homemaker and grandmother, has lived in Hamilton County, Ohio, for nearly 30 years. A former poll worker and a Democrat, she says she has voted in every election since she was 18.

“Voting to me is, like, sacred, like my children,” she said. “It lets me at least have an opinion about how I want to live in America.”

Sharp is keenly aware that her vote counts. Hamilton County, which includes Cincinnati, is hotly contested in a swing state that could decide this extraordinarily close presidential race. So naturally, Sharp was surprised when she received a letter in the mail that said, “You are hereby notified that your right to vote has been challenged by a qualified elector under RC 3503.243505.19.” more here http://abcnews.go.com/Politics/true-vote-intimidating-minority-voters-polls/story?id=17618823#.UJWQvGfyDMx

You know this woman should sue their asses. She had to go to a hearing which means she probably had to take off work. Even if she did not have to take off work that hearing was a waste of time for her and the state.

Love this! We canvassed a woman last weekend who was so excited when we knocked on her door because she thought we were personal emissaries from PBO.

She showed us her nicho where she had El Presidente’s picture along with those of her own family, where she lit candles & prayed for him every day as she prayed for her loved ones. She told us she kept the letter she had received from him thanking her for a small donation. She told us she had already mailed her voto for PBO.

We stopped long enough to have coffee with her. How could we not take the time to do that?

A Long-Shot Campaign Could Threaten Romney’s Chances in Virginia

POWHATAN, Va. — Virgil Goode has absolutely no chance of winning the presidency. But here in his home state, his quixotic quest for the White House as the Constitution Party candidate could peel votes away from Mitt Romney, and that is making some Republicans nervous.
    [...]
Indeed he has. In many states, Republicans have worked to suppress Mr. Goode’s candidacy. He is on the ballot in 26 states and is running as a write-in candidate in an additional 14. Republicans succeeded in blocking him in Pennsylvania; Mr. Goode says that it would have cost him $100,000 to fight to have his name included and that he did not have the money.
    [...]
“The problem for Romney is he is culturally so opposite from most voters in Southside Virginia that there is an area for Virgil Goode to win votes,” said David Wasserman of the nonpartisan Cook Political Report. “In 2008, there were close to 40,000 votes cast for third-party candidates in Virginia. What if Virgil Goode took 25,000 votes? That could be a potential difference maker.”

    Akin Was Arrested Eight Times
Missouri U.S. Senate candidate Rep. Todd Akin (R) was arrested at least eight times in the 1980s at anti-abortion protests, National Journal reports.

“That is four arrests in addition to four the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reported last month based on a review of its contemporaneous coverage of protests. The four additional arrests each appear to have occurred outside a women’s health clinic in Ballwin, Missouri in St. Louis County between 1985 and 1987.”

N.J.’s Christie opens offices for early voting; paper ballots ready

Reuters) – New Jersey Governor Chris Christie on Saturday said he has ordered county clerks to open their offices on Saturday and Sunday to allow early voting for residents affected by superstorm Sandy.

The storm devastated the eastern part of the state, leaving at least 22 dead and more than 1 million customers still without power just three days before the presidential election on Nov 6.

Christie said New Jersey residents could get their early voting done over the weekend at the county clerk’s office because he ordered the offices to stay open in every county in the state over the weekend.

“Time on your hands? Tired of cleaning stuff up? Go there in person, you’ll get a ballot, you vote and hand it in and you’re done,” he said in a press briefing from the town of Little Ferry.

The governor also said paper ballots would be made available on Election Day, Tuesday, allowing people to vote “old school” at polling stations that still do not have power. The National Guard will protect trucks set up at these makeshift polling stations to enable voting, he said.

For those who are not sure where to vote on Election Day, Christie said that beginning on Tuesday morning, residents can send a text message to 877877 with their address and will immediately receive a response with their polling location.

So, do you want to know what the Obama ground game looks like in action? Read this memo from Mitch Stewart, Jeremy Bird, and Marlon Marshall.

It is enough to strike terror into Karl Rove’s heart. When you are done reading it, contact your local OFA and get involved. There’s no better way to spend Election Day than doing work in the field. And you’ll be able to tell your grandkids that you were part of the greatest grassroots turnout effort the world has ever seen.

    Help Us Win the House

    by BooMan
Sat Nov 3rd, 2012 at 09:58:08 AM EST

We need to win back the House of Representatives. Experts are saying that we are going to come up short, but that doesn’t mean that we shouldn’t make every effort to prove them wrong. Democracy for America has a special dialer program that allows people to make phone calls into specific districts without ever leaving the comfort of their living room. It does everything for you, so you don’t have to deal with hangups or wrong numbers. You only talk to live voters. Because if this, you can easily reach 100 voters in a single two-hour shift.
On Tuesday, DFA volunteers reached 17,000 voters in Wisconsin on behalf of Tammy Baldwin. Yesterday, the volunteers reached 30,000 people on behalf of Joe Garcia (FL-26) and Kathy Boockvar (PA-08). These are huge numbers. It’s not just the voters who are contacted that helps. Participating in the program helps the candidates refine their voter lists by eliminating the voters who have moved or changed phone numbers. You can help them identify supporters while also making it easier for them to contact actual voters between now and when the polls close on Tuesday.

Consult the following schedule and pick a candidate you want to help. The first one on the list is Manan Trivedi who is running to represent me. I’d love to see 15,000 contacts in my district this afternoon. It’s this kind of organization that can shock the pundits and deliver us a meaningful victory next week.

    Choose a candidate to support:

Make calls for Manan Trivedi in PA-06!
    Sat – 11/3 – 1-3pm Eastern
Make calls for Annie Kuster in NH-02!
    Sat – 11/3 – 4-6pm Eastern
Make calls for Raul Ruiz in CA-36!
    Sun – 11/4 – 5-7pm Eastern
Make calls for Jose Hernandez in CA-10!
    Sun – 11/4 – 8-10pm Eastern
Make calls for Joe Garcia in FL-26!

    - – - -Dark Money By The Numbers: 81% Has Gone To Republicans – -

    – - –The Sunlight Foundation on Friday published a useful and thorough group of charts breaking down the latest tallies of dark money spending this election cycle.

The top-line numbers: Through Nov. 1, at least $213 million had been spent on the presidential, Senate, and congressional races by groups that do not disclose their donors. Of that total, $172.4 million (81 percent) was spent to support Republican candidates, while $35.7 million (19 percent) was spent to support Democratic candidates.

There are 34 races (12 Senate and 22 House) where dark money groups have spent more than $1 million, and four Senate races where more than $10 million have been spent: Virginia ($19 million), Ohio ($13.1 million), Nevada ($11.7 million), and Wisconsin ($10.4 million).

In four House races where dark money tops $1 million and accounts for at least half of the outside money spent — NY-28, CO-3, NY-22, and NY-23 — 99.9 percent of the dark money has gone to support Republicans.

found this in the comments at Balloon Juice:

    Kane Says:

TeamObama is about to end the political career of Mitt Romney once and for all. And in the process, they have exposed Paul Ryan as an extremist and effectively ended his media-created myth of being a deficit hawk. And also too, Obama has embraced Chris Christie, forever putting unbearable Obama cooties on him.

It’s a threefer. They have taken out the Republican nominee and successfully ended any future presidential aspirations for what were considered to be two of the GOP’s rising stars in Ryan and Christie. Who do they have to offer for 2016? Jeb? Marco? Good luck with that.

    – - –Polls Show Positive View Of Obama’s Response To Hurricane Sandy Destruction – -

    - – — -A number of new polls have shown that the American public has positive views of President Obama’s response to the damage along the eastern seaboard caused by Hurricane Sandy.

A UPI poll released Saturday showed 77 percent of Americans had a positive take on Obama’s response to the storm and an additional 65 percent thought “the destructive storm and its aftermath gave the president a chance to connect better with voters,” — the news service wrote. An ABC News/Washington Post national tracking poll released on Wednesday of last week also found 78 percent of likely voters had a positive view of the president’s efforts. A pair of swing state polls released Saturday from NBC/Marist showed the same thing — 70 percent of likely voters in Florida and 73 percent of likely voters in Ohio approved of the response.

Posted byCNN Political Reporter Peter Hamby

Columbus, Ohio (CNN) – In the face of poll numbers showing a challenging path to victory Tuesday, particularly in Ohio, Mitt Romney’s campaign is telling allies to talk up Republican chances in Democratic-leaning states while insisting that “GOP enthusiasm” will carry Romney to victory on Election Day.

In a memo circulated Saturday to top Republican leaders and surrogates in the media, the Romney campaign says they are “forcing Obama on defense” in states he won handily in 2008 – including Minnesota, Michigan and Pennsylvania, where Romney will campaign on Sunday.more here: http://politicalticker.blogs.cnn.com/2012/11/03/first-on-cnn-romney-internal-memo-says-gop-enthusiasm-will-tilt-election/

Scandalous: Resident Director at Morehouse College Stars in Gay Porn Film

*OK, we’re going all out here and placing this in the “What the HELL was he thinking?” category.

As adults, we realize we have to take responsibility for the things we choose to do in our personal lives, right? I mean, we do know things like, if we choose to ignore paying our phone bill, we can’t complain when the phone gets turned off, or if we choose to bite the hand that feeds us, we risk the chance of starving, right?

So we are wondering why, oh why, would a resident director at one of the most prestigious colleges in the country, Morehouse, choose to take the overt route and participate in, a videotaped sexual escapade … not to mention such a ”hot-button item” as a same-sex romp, for a proposed porn TV series.

    We’re waiting…WHY?
In a clip sure to be in full circulation soon, courtesy of our source at ObnoxiousTV, Morehouse College resident director Isaiah Green (pictured above) is seen “gettin’ it in,” as they say, with actor Des Epps – a young man struggling with being on the ‘down low’. Epps, a professional actor, claims he is “straight” and just portraying a gay man.

    • GOVCHRIS1988

“I wanted to make it real as possible. I did not want people to see this and be able to tell that I was not gay,”Des explained. “I wanted them to think I enjoyed the sex and the kissing.”

Uh………..yeah………..bruh……………..kissing and simulating gay sex (I think) wouldn’t leave you any worries in that regard. I know the economy is hard and you want to break out into the acting world, but working as an understudy at the playhouse would be better than this.

Like Clinton or not, the excessive talk of him being the “reason” PBO is surging with white folks, kicks me in the gut. So, does this mean that in the future, PBO will not have a similar stump effect for the next Dem candidate- because he’s not white? Of course, most don’t state the obvious, but we know what it means. PBO can’t cut it alone without the help of a white validator. Of course he needs a good amount of the white vote, but this country still has a long, long way to go, when they take for granted that AAs will go along to get along.

    • Miranda

I know exactly how you feel, I feel the same way. It makes me mad and its really a hopeless kind of mad because I know there isn’t a damn thing that can be done but recognize it for what it is. We know the idiot pundits will give all praise to Clinton and blindly overlook the innate racism that affords him the ability to get credit for saying what PBO has said for 4 years

      • edp4bho

Yep, even though PBO has achieved so much more, and has done so in the most moral ways. Problem for me is, I’d said after PBO that I am out of national politics for the way he has been treated, but we must stay involved atleast to protect the gains he’s made. Damn !

        • Aquagranny911

I know. I’ve said the same thing. I’m just about worn out from all this. I know I will poop out for at bit after Tuesday but I don’t want all this hard work to be washed away by some goatfigger in 2016.

As long as I can I will keep on keeping on.

          • edp4bho

If I never spend much time on the inter-tubes after this election, as I do now, I will never ever forget….goatfigger ! You are too much LOL !

    • conlakappa

I had to bite my tongue when a colleague kept telling me the President had to rekease his “inner Bill Clinton.” I’m like, uh, yeah, nothing like fake authenticity [lip bite optional?] to bring it home. / eye freakin’ roll

    • GN

I’ve personally been extremely impressed with Bill Clinton this election cycle, but it is sooo true that pundits will bend over backwards to dismiss Ptesident Obama’s skill. I think it’s biased but it’s also a desire to see Dems in disarray and constantly competing with each other rather than cooperating. I’d say the beltway media’s performance this election cycle has been pretty bad.

      • edp4bho

All in all, I take nothing away from Clinton. Heck I used to honor him, elected him 2x. It’s not much about him as it is how much PBO is denied his rightful place in ways. One can only hope that his legacy will be held in the high respect it so deserves. We ARE all in this together. Clinton and others will need to learn their place as well.

    • Lisa M

Dems gone need PBO and FLOTUS for years to come to keep black folks involved. Remember Kerry only got 88% of the black vote. How did he do? You know this means a whole lot more to Clinton than PBO who is likely not fazed in the least about credit. PBO just focused on gettin’ isht done.

Perry came on stage at Saturday’s event initially wearing a red, white and blue dress and holding a microphone shaped like the Statue of Liberty’s torch.

But after her first song, a cover of Al Green’s soul hit “Let’s Stay Together,” she tossed aside the dress to reveal the bright blue minidress.

Perry paused midway through her set to make a pitch for donations to victims of Superstorm Sandy.

Question, are early voting tallys published as soon as polls close Tues? what I mean is, do they count tem soon as voting is over Tuesday, & release the numbers, or do they release them county by county on Tues?

    • sagittarius

      Hi, lamh:

I had to re-read your question because I wasn’t sure what you were asking. I think you’re asking how early votes are counted? Early votes aren’t counted until the polls in the respective state are closed. Then, depending how the vote was cast (absentee, touch-screen) determines when they will be counted. Absentee are paper votes and have to be fed into the machine by hand; it is a tedious process.

    — - In his first of two stops in Colorado Saturday, Vice President Joe Biden used a little comedy at a local high school to highlight how the GOP ticket’s policies will set the country back, reminding voters to change the times on their clocks tonight on what Biden billed as Mitt Romney’s favorite night of the year.

“Look folks, I want to remind you. This is the end of Daylight Saving time tonight. It’s Mitt Romney’s favorite time of the year because he gets to turn the clock back,” Biden said to laughter and applause at Arvada High School Saturday afternoon. “He wants to turn that clock back so desperately. This time he can really do it tonight. It happens.”
