In Israel, Romney declares Jerusalem to be capital
By KASIE HUNT | Associated Press – 1 hr 12 mins ago.

Standing on Israeli soil, U.S. presidential candidate Mitt Romney on Sunday declared Jerusalem to be the capital of the Jewish state and said the United States has “a solemn duty and a moral imperative” to block Iran from achieving nuclear weapons capability.

“Make no mistake, the ayatollahs in Iran are testing our moral defenses. They want to know who will object and who will look the other way,” he said. “We will not look away nor will our country ever look away from our passion and commitment to Israel.”

Romney’s declaration that Jerusalem is Israel’s capital was matter-of-fact and in keeping with claims made by Israeli governments for decades, even though the United States, like other nations, maintains its embassy in Tel Aviv.

found this in the comments at Washington Monthly:

Britain, Israel, and Poland, ARE ALLIES!

    And Mitt feck’s THAT up?!?!?!

And he folds to the already sycophantic MSM?
What were they going to do that their corporate bosses didn’t want them to do?

What’s Mitt going to do when he’s facing China, Russia, or some of the other worlds nations, who aren’t our best pals?

I can see Putin right now, rubbing his hands in glee, at the very thought of meeting Mitt.

    THAT boy don’t play, Mittens!

If you’re not careful, Ol’ Vlad will have your wife living as his mistress in his dacha outside of Moscow, your 5 useless kids breaking ice into cubes in some Siberian GULag, your prancing pony in a glue factory, and your fortune in HIS OWN off-shore bank accounts

    • Uh oh. As we suspected the media is slowly starting to turn on Romney.

      • Ebogan63

Nowhere near a full scale revolt, but the grumblings are becoming prominent

        • Aquagranny911

NYT did a pretty good job & the comments were brutal.

          • nathkatun7

I think the piece was so, so. But you are absolutely right about the comments. The vast majority of the people who posted comments came down hard on R Money.

      • nathkatun7

I am sorry woody, but I am not yet convinced.

    • MsKitty

“Wimp” in 100 point font. That’s real subtle (LOL).

    • JojoRaze

This is what happens when you scorn the US media in England. Dave Cameron wanted to take questions from the US press corps and R-money said no. The WH Press Corps will not be denied Willard. They are not gonna carry your water for free. You need to give them something: a full spread in People complete with access to members of your church, 2 press conferences where they get to ask you whatever, something.

After 2010, FLOTUS Michelle was in every magazine Elle, Parents, People, something, talking about Let’s Move, Joining Forces and how the girls are doing. Everyone wants to know about the girls and she realizes in order to get press for her signature issues, she has to give some tidbit about the girls. FLOTUS gets viewers/readers and she and PBO get good press. Willard hasn’t learned that he’s already a loss leader–he doesn’t get clicks, views and when he can get them from the press, he’s ticking them off. You have to give them something to get something. I thought he was a business man who would realize this.

  • Mitt…you’re just not ready.

    Romneyshambles Continues in Israel
    By Kevin Drum
    | Sun Jul. 29, 2012 8:28 AM PDT

This has got to be a joke. After the Romneyshambles debacle of his trip to Britain, surely Mitt could at least visit Israel without sticking his foot in his mouth? Apparently not:

An adviser’s vague remark to reporters here left the press scrambling for nearly three hours this morning to determine whether Romney had promised to commit American forces or other support to a hypothetical Israel strike on Iran….Romney foreign policy advisor Dan Senor briefed the press on Sunday morning, saying, “if Israel has to take action on its own, in order to stop Iran from developing the capability, the governor would respect that decision.”

The headline that hit news outlets across the globe by the Associated Press was: “Adviser: Romney would back strike against Iran,” implying, perhaps, that the U.S. could contribute forces to such a strike. Reuters ran with: “Romney backs Israel if needs to strike Iran: aide says.” Bloomberg’s headline: “Romney Says He’d Back Unilateral Israeli Strike on Iran.”

….The Romney campaign, meanwhile, went dark, with much of his top staff asleep in Boston or in meetings with Israeli leaders, as an international firestorm built over how Senor’s comments were being interpreted.

About three hours later, however, aides distributed a comment by Senor clarifying his remarks.

And the fail continues with this moron…

    • trose1

Romney is a disaster. He doesn’t seem that smart. Someting is missing in the head.

      • nathkatun7

He is too programmed. In Israel, he is following the script given to him by the neocons. I don’t think Romney has a clue about the Israel/Palestine conflict.

    • nathkatun7

Romney and his team are not ready for prime time on the world stage.

  • Romney cancels meeting with party leaders in Israel

Jerusalem (CNN) – The leaders of the liberal Labor Party in Israel took issue with Mitt Romney’s decision to cancel a meeting during the presumptive GOP nominee’s trip in Israel on Sunday.

Romney made a “last-minute cancellation” with Labor Party Leader Shelly Yachimovich, according to Labor parliamentary member Isaac Herzog, who was also scheduled to take part in the session.

“It is a pity that Governor Romney did not have the opportunity to hear about the political and economical alternative that exists today to Netanyahu’s Government and that alternative is the Labor Party,” Herzog said in a statement.

  • lamh35

Lord I never thought I’d be happy living in Texas, but the last 11 days (gonna be 14 by Wednesday) I’ve been in Ohio, if I see another political ad I may literally shoot myself in the head. And I’ll be honest too, that kinda includes the Obama ads and I love the Obama ads, but the sheer amount of ads that are being shown is sooo much I don’t know how ya’ll can take it.

I guess it helps that you stay active in Dem politics, but jeez.

I will say though, that my mom and my sister who both are Obama supporter, but do not follow the campaigns like I do the commercial they actually remember enough to comment on is the “Firms” ad by Obama (that is the one with Romney singing “America the Beautiful”…right?)

    • MsKitty

And I’ll be honest too, that kinda includes the Obama ads and I love the Obama ads, but the sheer amount of ads that are being shown is sooo much I don’t know how ya’ll can take it.

That’s how I feel about seeing campaign ads during sporting events, from both sides. When I watch a game I want to forget about real life for a little while, and you can’t do that when politics crashes in. Don’t get me wrong I know why Team Obama has to get those ad buys, but doesn’t mean I have to like it so much.

      • Miranda

Prepare to be sickened this fall, it seems political ads will run amuck throughout football season and geared to be shown towards the biggest games of the season.

        • MsKitty

As long as they don’t turn up on NFL RedZone I can deal, otherwise I’ll be ready to cut a bitch.

(Poverty is the new slavery. Is that really the best slogan Tavis could come up with?)

Tavis Smiley rails against the ‘blinders of greed’: Poverty a societal crisis
    By Eric W. Dolan
    Sunday, July 29, 2012 13:35 EDT

Topics: slavery in the United States ♦ tavis smiley

With reports of poverty reaching its highest level since 1965, CBS News contributor Tavis Smiley on Sunday compared the growing wealth inequality to slavery in the United States.

“Throughout American history there have been proud moments of revolution that forced the elite to remove their blinders of greed, tyranny and domination,” he said. “America has, of course, made great strides for freedom in regard to all of its citizens. But now America has regressed, and poverty is the new slavery.”

    • itgurl_29

How long before he accuses President Obama of being a “slave master”?

      • goldenstar

        not long…..

    • Does that mean he’s gonna part ways with Wal-Mart?

..”yet Tavis Smiley’s talk show is underwritten by Wal-Mart, infamous for allegations of discriminatory and unfair labor practices…”

    • GN

WTH is with the professional left’s and sole patrol’s constant need to compare everything to slavery and/or the civil rights movement?? Poverty is hellish; poverty is not chattel slavery. Tavis, please have a seat.

How’s that workin’ for ya, Travesty?

(He probably sucks his teeth and reaches for the remote everytime MED comes on for Ed… And Lord knows, he don’t watch the good Rev. Al)

    • nathkatun7

I am just sick of the people who use term slavey to apply to any situation that admittedly is oppressive. Of all the people, Tavis Smiley should know better not to diminish the horrific situation that our ancestors went through. Yes poverty is oppressive, but are poor people being sold and bred like cattle? Does the law treat poor people as property totally under the control of heir slave property owners who can abuse them at will, including arbitrary separation of families and raping female slaves. I could go on and on. It’s pure intellectual laziness for people to keep invoking the term slavery without regard to the the people who endured real slavery.

      • GN

The sole patrol’s “love” for black people and respect for our experiences so often feels in actuality like contempt. Wonder why that is.

Pelosi Angers Cantor By Claiming Republicans Are Exploiting Jewish Voters

House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) argued that Jewish voters are being “exploited” by Republicans over the issue of Israel’s security, calling President Obama the “strongest” supporter of Israel and accusing the GOP of seeking to distract from their domestic agenda.

The remarks provoked a fiery retort from the nation’s most prominent Jewish Republican, who called it “patronizing” and “insulting” just hours before a Sunday speech in Israel by the GOP presidential nominee Mitt Romney.

The Future of Manufacturing Is in America, Not China

A furor broke out last week after it was reported that the uniforms of U.S. Olympians would be manufactured in China…. Seduced by government subsidies, cheap labor, lax regulations, and a rigged currency, U.S. industry has rushed to China in recent decades, with millions of American jobs lost. It is these fears, rather than the Olympic uniforms themselves, that triggered last week’s congressional uproar.

But Ralph Lauren berets aside, the larger trends show that the tide has turned, and it is China’s turn to worry. Many CEOs, including Dow Chemicals’ Andrew Liveris, have declared their intentions to bring manufacturing back to the United States. What is going to accelerate the trend isn’t, as people believe, the rising cost of Chinese labor or a rising yuan. The real threat to China comes from technology. Technical advances will soon lead to the same hollowing out of China’s manufacturing industry that they have to U.S industry over the past two decades.

Today, NCJW’s work to promote civic engagement takes the form of Promote the Vote, Protect the Vote 2012. How Uncle Sam Helped Mitt Romney Build His Fortune

At events across the country, Mitt Romney’s presidential campaign is trying to convince voters that small business owners in fact build the roads and bridges they use every day. Unfortunately, Romney’s “We Did Build It” gatherings have hit some potholes, with many participants revealed to be the recipients of government contracts and subsidies and others unaware of the full context of President Obama’s selectively edited remarks now under attack.

But Mitt Romney has another, much larger problem with his baseless contention that President Obama is “insulting to every entrepreneur, every innovator in America.” Because on his road to becoming a $250 million captain of private equity at Bain Capital, Mitt Romney had a lot of help from his uncle. Uncle Sam, that is. As it turns out, the U.S. tax code doesn’t merely allow Romney to pay a lower rate than many middle class families. Without the public subsidy that is the corporate debt interest deduction, there might not be a Bain Capital–or a private equity industry as we know it–at all.

    By Agence France-Presse
    Sunday, July 29, 2012 16:28 EDT

RAMALLAH, Palestinian Territories — US presidential hopeful Mitt Romney’s endorsement of Jerusalem as the capital of Israel is “harmful” to US interests in the Middle East, a senior Palestinian official said on Sunday.

“Romney’s declarations are harmful to American interests in our region, and they harm peace, security and stability,” Palestinian negotiator Saeb Erakat told AFP.

“Even if this statement is within the US election campaign, it is unacceptable and we completely reject it. The US election campaign should never be at the expense of the Palestinians,” he said.

“Romney is rewarding occupation, settlement and extremism in the region with such declarations.”

So Jordyn Wieber is out of the Olympic All-Around and all of a sudden we have to change the 2 team members per country rule lol

What about the Russians who have fallen victim in prior olympics under this rule? She finished third and she is out period. If you want to be in finish 1st or 2nd on your team.

Its amazing for me to see this alleged selective outrage. She is a great gymnast but Gabby and Aly were great. Gabby defeated her in the trials, so what is the big deal? Cheer for the remaining two.

Just because they tried to force feed us this American sweetheart storyline does not mean the rest of the teammates or nations came to play. The rule is the rule.

    Why must Jordyn be in?

Go Team US, Go Aly and Gabby and remaining teammates on their individual apparatus.

    Wastin’ time with Westen

Dr. Drew Westen is back, bubbling with indignation and fluttering with the old familiar vapors and again slaying the Enlightenment with his Rousseau-like Romanticism. Oh dear, if only President Obama were endowed with Westen’s boundless courage and penetrating intuition and almost total ignorance of politics, we’d be well on the road to utopia–Hope/Crosby-style, that is.

You no doubt remember Westen, an insufferable progressive ideologue who a year ago caused such a liberating stir in the deflated groins of lesser progressive ideologues; a psychology professor who, in addition to political ignorance, piled historical and literary pretensions–“the arc of history does not bend toward justice through capitulation cast as compromise”–into his “controversial” NY Times piece, “What Happened to Obama?”

That singular effort by Westen earned him what others had labored entire careers to achieve: a slot in the New Republic’s annual list of “Over-Rated Thinkers”:

    — – — –I’ve never done this before, but I think it’s time to start. Because some comments are worth sharing.

This glorious bit of satire comes from regular commenter Mr. Brink.

Mitt Romney and his partners at Bain Capital have put together a generous offer pamphlet for you, middle class American people.

The first step in the plan for the New American Mitt Romney Century would be to of course consolidate all the waste and fraud this president has failed to rein in to pay down his criminal debt to society in increments and lump sums, and incremental lump sums, and to combine the Department of Energy, The EPA, The UN, Department of Education, Dept. of Labor, Consumer protections, The Union of Concerned Scientists, and the office of the Vice President to boldly cut the deficit where this president has failed to go. Dick Cheney for life! The military will now fall under Mitt Romney’s eager enthusiasm for subservience to the American Death Star Alliance paid for by a more simplified tax plan. A national sales tax, Living wage tax, voting tax, security camera tax, administrative tax, Internet usage tax, Licensing tax, sin tax, unemployment tax, water tax, and all applicable taxes and fees will be paid for by allowing more hard working Americans to keep their freedom.

Because Mitt Romney is excited about this president’s failures, he wants you to be excited for Mitt Romney. Excited for America, but scared! Fearful and uncertain of your shared hardships, unnecessary government debt defaults, and economic pains to come. Mitt Romney and his partners at Bain Capital feel your pain because this president came into office as a failed president and has proven it time and time again and he has failed more Americans than any president in our lifetime.- — SNIP — –

    Colonizing African Values
How the U.S. Christian Right Is Transforming Sexual Politics in Africa

While U.S. Christian Right leaders made headlines when international pressure forced them to retract support for Uganda’s notorious Anti-Homosexuality Bill of 2009, a new report by Political Research Associates shows that U.S. Christian Right groups continue to build organizational strength and campaign to inscribe homophobia and anti-abortion politics in the constitutions and laws of African countries in the years since.

The U.S. Christian Right’s most recent efforts are documented in the new report Colonizing African Values: How the U.S. Christian Right is Transforming Sexual Politics in Africa.

The report authored by Rev. Dr. Kapya Kaoma, an Anglican priest originally from Zambia, investigates the Pat Robertson-founded American Center for Law and Justice, the Mormon-led Family Watch International, and the Roman Catholic Human Life International, as well as a network of Christian dominionists known as the Transformation Movement or New Apostolic Reformation. The report details ACLJ’s efforts to influence the constitution-writing process in Zimbabwe and Kenya, and the anti-LGBT and anti-reproductive justice activities of the other groups in such countries as Uganda, Malawi and Zambia.

——-Mitt Romney Melts Down in Israel and Embraces Being a Wimp– – –

——New Romney campaign slogan: I am not a wimp!

The narrative that Mitt Romney is a wimp is gaining steam. Even Newsweek is on board, with an upcoming Romney cover reading, “The Wimp Factor: Is He Just Too Insecure to Be President?” Asked about the cover on CBS Face the Nation, Romney said he doesn’t worry about what the media says, if he did he’d never sleep and he sleeps just fine. Perhaps he ought to rethink his Nixonian approach to the media, as it doesn’t seem to be going very well so far.

Romney, claiming not to have seen the Newsweek cover, had a ready answer, “They tried that on George Herbert Walker Bush, he was a pretty great President.” But in reality, that narrative did hurt the first Bush. Romney denied that anyone has ever suggested this about him before, but I find that hard to believe. Not only do his flip flops lend that narrative credence, but Romney is that quintessential prototype of the bully/wimp. The worst bullies are also the biggest wimps – their hatred of their own powerlessness/weakness and obsequious catering to power is, in fact, why they are bullies. We saw this psychological complex brought to international fruition under W.

What’s making Romney look like a wimp? Well, there was the “Mitt the Twit” disaster of London, wherein he was compared unfavorably to Sarah Palin by the British press. There’s his obvious and rather stunning lack of preparedness to do the most basic diplomatic duties like issuing a few supportive, banal words about the Olympics. And then there’s the constant flip flops.

Here are the Israel trip flip flops so far:– -READ ON. :>)

CNN: Sarah Palin ‘Stupid Girls’ Intro Unintentional

CNN says the use of the Pink song “Stupid Girls” to introduce a segment on Sarah Palin was unintentional and not meant as a commentary on the former Republican vice presidential candidate.

The network, which prides itself on nonpartisan coverage, played the song Sunday to introduce a report about Palin supporting Chick-fil-A.

“The music selection was a poor choice and was not intended to be linked to any news story,” CNN said in a statement to TheWrap. “We regret any perception that they were planned together.”

    – – – –Veteran civil rights activists see new battle in voter ID laws— – –

    – — – –Sybil Morial once helped elderly blacks in Louisiana learn the preamble to the Constitution, one of the many requirements she said state officials used as roadblocks decades ago to prevent blacks from voting.

“Some of them went back three or four times,” said Morial, 79, of the would-be black voters. “They were revved up to become voters. Some of them came back in tears.”

For Morial, a New Orleans resident, and other veterans of the civil rights movement, today’s battle over new state election laws conjures up painful memories of the movement’s early days. Their efforts in the 1950s and 1960s led to landmark legislation to protect blacks’ right to vote. (Alexandria Town Talk)

GLH, Thanks for sharing this piece. It’s really a shame that Republicans intend on reviving Jim Crowism, with a 21st century twist. We need to rise up in unison to pledge to “Never Again” allow this to happen. To many people sacrificed their lives for the right to vote.
