    White Supremacy Acquits George Zimmerman
Aura Bogado on July 14, 2013 – 12:05 AM ET

A jury has found George Zimmerman not guilty of all charges in connection to death of 17-year-old Trayvon Martin. But while the verdict came as a surprise to some people, it makes perfect sense to others. This verdict is a crystal-clear illustration of the way white supremacy operates in America.

Throughout the trial, the media repeatedly referred to an “all-woman jury” in that Seminole County courtroom, adding that most of them were mothers. That is true—but so is that five of the six jurors were white, and that is profoundly significant for cases like this one. We also know that the lone juror of color was seen apparently wiping a tear during the prosecution’s rebuttal yesterday. But that tear didn’t ultimately convince her or the white people on that jury that Zimmerman was guilty of anything. Not guilty. Not after stalking, shooting and killing a black child, a child that the defense insultingly argued was “armed with concrete.”

Looking at the reaction across the so called “progressive” blogosphere, its crystal clear black people mean nothing to these folks other than they need one to accessorize their lives like a pet.

Gay marriage isn’t about black gays – its about affluent gay couples wanting tax benefits.

Reproductive rights aren’t about black women- they’re about white women with daddy issues who give less than a damn about the “poor” women they like to hoist up as props in their arguments.

NSA surveillance? Seriously? WHO GIVES A SHIT. Same goes for the Keystone pipeline, I don’t care if they put that shit through downtown Lincoln, NE….whatever.

These “progressives” are already on to the next one (not that they were ever there with us to begin with) – they Do.Not.Care.

    • Kennymack1971

This X 1000. The fauxgressives only care about Black people to the extent they need us to co-sign their causes and never stand up for ours. Case in point: the whole fight about the abortion bill here in TX (Which for the record, is a bunch of bullshit. The bill that is). Now these religious fundie wing nuts here have been doing all kinds of ignorant BS for years but it wasn’t until they came for something that White women deemed important that now they want to stand and fight and demand Black people sign on. I’ve had my fill of these fauxgressives and their cool Black friends. Fuck all of them.

      • AxelFoley

        This here, times infinity.

    • aleth

I like the president have no fucks to give to these progressives… Heck 2010 had consequences..they need to feel it too.

We don’t stop feeling consequences. I don’t care about their perceived grievances…I think they want this case to dissappear because it confirms the core of white America to the whole world. The interior of America is still ugly and it extends to the 2520 screaming reproductive rights…

Pennsylvania teens save five-year-old girl from kidnapping by chasing the kidnapper’s car on their BIKES

Two Pennsylvania teens are being hailed as heroes after they chased down a man in a car who had snatched a five-year-old girl from her grandmother’s front yard – on their bikes.

Jocelyn Rojas, five, was missing for two hours yesterday when Temar Boggs and a friend saw the child in a car near Lancaster Township and gave chase.

After Boggs, 15, and his friend had been tailing the vehicle for 15 minutes, the driver let the little girl out of the car and sped off.

This comment was so unnecessary, dickhead.

“Sergeant Jeff Jones told WGAL, ‘It is possible this individual saw the boys following him and it is possible he got nervous. We don’t know that for sure; I’d sure like to find out,’ he said.”

Reminiscent of Chris Rock’s “born a suspect” bit from like 20 years ago, innit? Even when saving a child’s life, clearly, suspected of thugging. On a bike.

I don’t have to respect anything a racist jury hands down. I didn’t respect it for Rodney King so why should I respect it in this instance? These types of negroes have always existed. Yes there was no evidence that the Scottsboro Boys assaulted any of those white women but hey an all white jury said they did so I have to respect that.

    • jds09

Seriously, our standard bearers, NAACP, NUL and SCLC need a re-boot. Professionally over the years I’ve worked for 2 out of 3 of these groups. They are tied to corporate money and need it to exisit. When they were badass they were supported mainly by membership dues.

      • crazycanuck

        SCLC is still around?

      • conlakappa

I don’t deal with the organizations directly but have to hear from mainstream progressive groups “you really should make sure to talk to Ben Jealous. He has ideas about revitalizing a historic organization/knows people” and I sit there not trying to fall into blinking fits.

        • jds09

I’m blinking right there with you. I’ve had the same conversation with these folks, wanting a return to fundamentals, the power of community organizing and bringing real value to the community via high quality services. (Giving value for membership dues) IMO, they are looking for the softer easier way of big chunks of corporate funding via schmoozing. They are making a living off of being a vehicle for rich white liberals (or conservatives that are in trouble) ease their guilt. I might be being to harsh…but my head and heart still hurts.

          • conlakappa

I think he is too slick by half but he has well-meaning white folks [*cough*] convinced that he knows… anything about moving forward. Not all of the white progressive organizations deserve side-eye but the boards/missions need retooling like whoa.

    • Miranda

The President only mentioned the VICTIM(s) of this tragedy….the only ones..Trayvon Martin and his parents. The not so subtle message of purposefully not mentioning Zimmerman’s name is not lost on me. Thank you Mr. President. White Supremacy Acquits George Zimmerman

Aura Bogado on July 14, 2013 – 12:05 AM ET

When Zimmerman was acquitted today, it wasn’t because he’s a
so-called white Hispanic. He’s not. It’s because he abides by the logic of white supremacy, and was supported by a defense team—and a swath of society—that supports the lingering idea that some black men must occasionally be killed with impunity in order to keep society-at-large safe.

Media on the left, right and center have been fanning the flames of fear-mongering, speculating that people—and black people especially—will take to the streets. That fear-mongering represents a deep white anxiety about black bodies on the streets, and echoes Zimmerman’s fears: that black bodies on the street pose a public threat.

But the real violence in those speculations, regardless of whether they prove to be true, is that it silences black anxiety. The anxiety that black men feel every time they walk outside the door—and the anxiety their loved ones feel for them as well. That white anxiety serves to conceal the real public threat: that a black man is killed every twenty-eight hours by a cop or vigilante.

Congressman Blames Obama For Zimmerman Having To Stand Trial For Killing Trayvon Martin
By Josh Israel on Jul 14, 2013 at 10:28 am

Congressman Steve King (R-IA) suggested Sunday that George Zimmerman should never have even had to stand trial for killing Trayvon Martin, blaming President Obama and his Department of Justice for the case.

On Fox News Sunday, host Chris Wallace claimed that though “local authorities originally decided not to prosecute,” Florida prosecutors decided to after civil rights groups and “even the president stepped into the case.” King furthered this misleading claim and then lamented that Zimmerman even had to stand trial for Martin’s death.

I am just in shock over this trial and surprised at the level of anger and grief I have; I figured after the white jury selection the fix was in but I still hurt when they read the verdict. As for the calls for POTUS to do something; he’s been doing more for black America than the NAACP and these Negroes criticizing him. Same people who likely are saying we have to respect the jury; well Dredd Scott was a decision made within the system. Do I have to respect that I’m not entitled to rights under the constitution?

I just wanted stop in and say thanks to POU again for setting up that talk; this was so important to me last night. Between you all and the phone calls to family & friends; I managed to avoid the cable news and I got off twitter pretty fast. Thank you again.

The statement, from Dept of Justice spokesperson Dena W. Iverson:

As the Department first acknowledged last year, we have an open investigation into the death of Trayvon Martin. The Department of Justice’s Criminal Section of the Civil Rights Division, the United States Attorney’s Office for the Middle District of Florida, and the Federal Bureau of Investigation continue to evaluate the evidence generated during the federal investigation, as well as the evidence and testimony from the state trial. Experienced federal prosecutors will determine whether the evidence reveals a prosecutable violation of any of the limited federal criminal civil rights statutes within our jurisdiction, and whether federal prosecution is appropriate in accordance with the Department’s policy governing successive federal prosecution following a state trial.

They just saying what I’ve been saying.

  • lamh36

Hey guys this is not in response to POTUS statement, it’s something I’ve been wanting to write all day.

Yesterday after hearing the verdict, I was not really shocked, but I just felt this numbness. I was upset and just had a long time trying to get my mind settles enough to finally get to sleep. This morning I woke up and I no longer felt numbness, I felt anger. And not the normal kind of anger at stubbing your toe, or angry cause I’m broke, but this quiet, festering anger that just seemed to get stronger as the day goes by and as I read the reactions from both side of the divide and I just had to stop watching tv or reading twitter. That anger is still festering and simmering under the surface. To know me is to know that I’m not a volatile person. I’m pretty even-handed when it comes to the justice system, I don’t trust it, but I realize that we have to live within it. But as African Americans, I suspect that majority of us feel the same particularly when it comes to the justice system.

I’m angry. That’s it. I don’t feel violent, I don’t feel reactive, I FEEL ANGRY! And right now, I don’t want to hear anything about this being “the right verdict” or about “respecting the verdict” or “why are people so surprised”. I don’t want to hear anything about SYG, or about white on black crime or any other reasoning people have been using to create “calm”. Can Black folk just for right now be allowed to be damn angry and not RATIONAL and not LOGICAL, just ANGRY. without someone trying to calm us down.

I AM ANGRY. I damn I think we deserve at least the day to rant and rave in anger and not LOGIC. That way at least we can go to work on Monday in our probably majority white work place and public places and not feel the need to scream in white folks faces!

But, it was not a restful sleep.

It is in your bones anger.

I am glad President Obama made statement on Trayvon and raised his families pain. The nation need to keep them in mind.

    • itgurl_29

And leave it to Rev. Al, the only actual ACTIVIST with real BOOTS ON THE GROUND, to see how deep that statement is.

      • Kennymack1971

Exactly. One of the Black figures actually doing something as opposed to bumping gums. Rev. Al got it.

Saw this pic on twitter and I tell ya what, I needed the laugh:Breaking news!!! They released the first picture of the Zimmerman murder trial jurors!!

    • AxelFoley

      LOL, oh shit

    • goldenstar

      How real is that?

    • JojoRaze

*crying in laughter* If this ain’t the gospel truth about the hearts of those jurors.

    • http://pragmaticobotsunite.blogspot.com/ Sepia

LOL! It’s funny cuz it’s true!

  • annvic

After reading the President statement and the feedback, I swear some people do more projecting than middle-school library. Did no one notice how he called on us to respect the wishes of the Martins’ but did not call on us to respect the verdict? Pres meant “But we are a nation of laws, and a jury has spoken.” the same way Black people mean “At the end of the day, the white man’s goin’ be white.” Not as approval but as acknowledgement of a fucked up truth. Please tell me where he blamed black-on-black crime, please do that. All I see is him subtly saying that this country is racist as hell and white people need to do something about it. Some people are just determined to paint Pres as a sell-out no matter what.

    • itgurl_29

It is plain as day. They just refuse to see it. And like I said on twitter, notice that the same people who where demanding POTUS give a statement are now the ONLY ones who are trashing the statement.

      • AxelFoley

Damned if he do, damned if he don’t.

      • annvic

I love how it’s the milquetoast black columnists lambasting Pres for not holding a press conference and leading the new Black Panthers in a rousing rendition of “Lawd I Can’t Stands Me No Crackers”, when they themselves can’t even be bothered to check their white liberals friends when they step out of line.

        • jds09

          BOOM!

    • JojoRaze

Thank AnnVic, that is exactly how I took the statement. PBO told us it was a jacked up ruling but why was this fool allowed to have a gun in the first place. And please put Sybrina and Tracy at the forefront of your mind because they are in pain.

George Zimmerman gets to walk away a free man after gunning down a 17-year old who wasn’t breaking any laws.

    Justice, American style.

    • Tafr

Yup and they still talk about Vick. The man served his time but that is not enough for some white folks.

The subtext of course is, for Zimmerman’s fan club, the life of a black teen is worth less than the life of a dog.

See this bs right here is not needed, Killerman and his entire family are scum.

Zimmerman’s Brother Goes After Trayvon On CNN: ‘What Makes People Angry Enough To Attack The Way He Did?’

Don Lemon interviewed George Zimmerman’s brother Robert Zimmerman on Sunday afternoon, to follow up on Robert’s stated desire to start a dialogue about race. Robert Zimmerman responded by wondering if Trayvon Martin had been buying guns or growing pot, and accusing his brother’s critics of being unable to answer tough questions about race themselves.

“Robert, you said you want to start some sort of dialogue,” Lemon said. “Much has been made about race in this particular case. You, your brother, your family, you have a unique opportunity in this country to address that. What would you like to see happen when it comes to race, to healing the divide, and do you plan to do anything about, and will you ask your brother to do anything about that?”

“I will ask George first to heal, and I will see to it that my life’s work is bringing people together, but not driving people apart,” Zimmerman responded, noting that his family had been “on the receiving end” of a good deal of hatred in the past sixteen months.

“We have to grow from this,” Zimmerman said. “I want to know what makes people angry enough to attack someone the way that Trayvon Martin did. I want to know, if it is true, and I don’t know that it was true, that Trayvon Martin was looking to procure firearms, was growing marijuana plants, or was making lean, or whatever he was doing. I want to know that every minor, high schooler, that would be reaching out in some way for help—and they may feel it’s by procuring firearms or whatever they may be doing—that they have some kind of help.”

That Don Lemon didn’t end the interview immediately when he bought up Trayvon’s name in that disparaging way is what upsets me the most.

      • trose1

That is a family of devils! Donn Lemon is weak as hell.

    • Alma98

The media is complicit in this, giving these ghouls air time to spout outright lies and smears. They’re complicit in demeaning and dehumanizing Trayvon. They let Zimmerman’s lawyers get on tv and lie and never called them on it. And of course they had a black man interview that scumbag. What is it going to take for black media pundits to say no to being used?

    • gn

They’re inciting. Zimmerman’s family is garbage and are enjoying this time in which they’re able to spread hatred, racism, fear, and draw others into their misery. Media happily gives them the platform.

Robert Zimmerman is a prime example of a person of color embracing racist stereotypes and white superiority.

  • rikyrah

As a Black person, we’ve all had ‘ the talk’ with our parents when we get into high school.

Our parents, even the ones that usually ‘play’, are deadly serious with this ‘ talk’.

Us learning the lesson, as my mother told me..

could be the difference of me coming to pick you up at the police station vs. visiting you in the morgue.

there is no 6 degrees of separation for Black people knowing of an incident where someone – without the hint of a police record – winds up in the morgue for some sort of variation of ‘ resisting arrest’.

fundamentally, I don’t believe White people:
    1. understand this
    2. believe it

I’ve never once heard some White person tell me that they have the same conversation with their children…BECAUSE THEY KNOW IT’S A FLIP OF A COIN as to whether they will wind up going to the police station vs. the morgue.

because, when I’ve tried to have this conversation with White folks, they always want to go do , ‘ but they must have been doing something’.

um, no. they were BLACK…that’s all that they were doing.

So, to be told by White folks that we have to ‘respect the law’, and that the law can abuse us and our children is one thing….

The reason why the Trayvon Martin case cut so deep is because NOW, you’re saying that our Black children, have to grovel at the feet of some random White person, ‘ just cause’?

    GET THE FUCK OUTTA HERE!

    • Worldwatcher7

They feel that the fact of our Blackness justifies all of their fears. They are unable to stop and question whether or not their fears are rational. Given the history of this country, it would be completely rational for us to be terrified of white folks, not the other way around.

In Zim’s case, his fear was mitigated by his knowledge that he had a gun — the great equalizer. That is the only way a candy-ass punk like him would be emboldened to get out of the car in the first place. If only Trayvon could have dislodged that gun and beat the slop out of that creep. Sigh.

    • Rhoda

That’s really what kills me about the trial: it’s all about putting black Americans back in that Jim Crow frame of mind. Not being out past sundown, not looking a white man in the eye, fearing that you might have your life taken and no one cares because your life is meaningless. Couple this with the tea party victories in ’10 and the Supreme Court stripping the Voting Rights act of section five and you can see; white folks who want to take their country back are taking this war seriously. Hopefully, Black America will wake up and create a new political reality.

Look at Latinos: they have the same issues but they are plugging away building their own media infrastructure, buliding their voting powers so that today they are a political force DESPITE voting below their representational margins. Meanwhile, we are watching black radio decimated. We are watching as black journalists fight to get into the white man’s club rather than fight for the black man’s rights. It’s sad and that state of mind is what we need to change; along with Dr. King we need to remember the legacy of Malcom and W.E Dubois too. We need to lift Black America up because we have achieved so much that is represented in the Obama’s; we can’t let the pain of the trial of Trayvon Martin dimish our power to act. We need to feel the pain and let it lift us up to better days.

George Zimmerman to Get His Gun Back
By MATT GUTMAN (@mattgutmanABC) and SENI TIENABESO (@seniABC)

SANFORD, Fla. July 14, 2013- George Zimmerman will get his gun back now that he has been cleared of murder and his lawyer said today that Zimmerman needs the weapon “even more” than before.

Zimmerman’s lawyer Mark O’Mara also practically dared the family of Trayvon Martin to file a widely expected civil suit against him, but said that Zimmerman might be filing lawsuits of his own.

      • gn

This case gets worse and worse.

    • gn

They’re utterly depraved. God bless the Martins and the Fultons for taking on this pack of bullies and lunatics.

    • Alma98

O’Mara is using racist tactics straight out of the early 19th century. I don’t think of his comment as a dare I see it as a threat.

      • gn

it’s straight intimidation. in addition to the blatant racism and racial profiling he employed during the trial, i noticed that there was lots of talk from Zimmerman defenders about outside agitators, exactly the type of rhetoric heard 50 years ago during the challenge to desegregation. This case is about a reassertion of Jim Crow, period. Which is why they’ve gotten nearly unlimited resources to pull this off.

    • http://pragmaticobotsunite.blogspot.com/ Sepia

This is crazy! He gets his gun back? That’s why the gun laws need to change.

And his lawyer really needs to shut up! He’s provoking people.

As I said before, the hackers Anonymous care absolutely nothing about us…a group of white libertarian anarchist that have absolutely no interest in racial justice. Where are they to hack the hell outta the files for the Zimmerman defense? Who’s paying O’Mara and West? They are making more than just those funds that were raised publicly. Where are the hackers to find out who this jury is? We would know their every name by now if Trayvon was a white child. Everything about this is disgusting and reeks.

    • Rhoda

A black boy dying is not news and not important to White America; it’s why they wanted this trial off their tv screens. To ignore and minimize this millienium’s Emmett Till.

  • rikyrah

    Hey white people…its on us!
Last night I went on twitter when the Zimmerman verdict was announced…at least until I read the words of a father wondering WTH he was going to say to his black son. Then I started balling and the evening was basically over for me.

Surely every parent of a black child in this country has to grapple with teaching them some form of the Black Male Code. I remember the profound sense of what white privilege means hit me when one of my co-workers talked about how she had to make her son cut off his dreads when he was 13 so as not to make him a target. What mother of a white child has to think about those kinds of things? And what mother of a white child has to fear for their lives when they’re walking home from the store?

It looks to me like no perfect calculation of the Black Male Code could have saved Trayvon. That’s where we hit a brick wall. This is just no country for young black men. The randomness of these incidents is where the fear lurks.

What it all comes down to is that this is not a “black people’s problem” – even as it is their children’s lives at stake. Surely they will do everything they can to protect them. But the sad thing is that these kinds of things won’t stop happening until white people get their shit together. That realization sent me back to something my friend Robinswing wrote years ago: We Can’t Fix Ya!

    http://immasmartypants.blogspot.com/2013/07/hey-white-peopleits-on-us.html?spref=tw

  • goldenstar

    Dear Trayvon’s Mom

…….So because these things didn’t happen to me, I ignorantly assumed they were not happening to you. I casually consumed my white privileges – these unearned assets that granted me the benefit of the doubt and free passes and guaranteed security and permanent insider status – assuming that anyone else, anyone, could enjoy these same advantages by making good choices and working hard.

But it is simply not true, because the same system that keeps me on top keeps you on bottom. If anyone is automatically granted insider status, by definition that means someone has outsider status. We see this when a black student or man or woman accomplishes something extraordinary, and they are called “a credit to their race.” If a white person pulled off the same thing, he would just be called awesome. You have to work harder for acknowledgment, and then singling it out as an exception to the rule diminishes and demeans your merit.

I didn’t know about the Black Male Code, because I didn’t have to. I had the luxury of knowing my sons would breeze through applications and security lines and entrance exams and interviews, receiving unmerited approval at the first glance.

But then I got this son.

Yeah I saw that. She just wanted the President to speak on racial injustice oblivious to the fact that he did in a way where we all caught his drift. The bigger picture was comforting the family of Trayvon Martin and gun violence which he did beautifully.

First they want him to make a statement. When he does they get mad because he didn’t say exactly what they wanted him too. If she thought that the President was going to come on national TV and call the jurors and the entire white population of Florida racists scumbags then yeah I can see how she would be disappointed. That and kind of stupid.
