Sunday Evening Thread: Hey Chris Hayes! Meet The Fly Jock (8 million listeners son)

So Chris Hayes tried to swing on Tom Joyner this morning huh? My fellow FAMU alum, Oscar Joyner (Tom’s son) was on the panel this morning to inform Chris of the reach the TJMS has and to also let the panel know, we don’t NEED you to be informed.

#uppers finds out the strength of social media:

I love that Oscar put it nicely-

the women that listen to our show don’t wanna hear nothing about no 1.3 trillion dollar debt.

they wanna hear about jobs, gun violence, kindergarten

in other words, Black folks don’t give two shyts about drones…they’re too busy dealing with REALITY.

    • Miranda

Seriously, I dont know anyone – friend, family, no one who gives a shit about the debt. The whole battle cry from the right on “we are destroying our children’s future!”…………well big fucking whoop. Your child will be alright.

      • nathkatun7

I am with you Miranda! And why didn’t they think about their children’s future when they launched a trillion dollar war on Iraq at the same same time that they were cutting taxes for the super rich? Why did they allow banks and other Wall Street speculators to drive the economy into a depression? Didn’t Dick Cheney declare that deficit do not matter?

Here we have a President who is seriously doing something to reduce long term debt, while at the same he is trying to build a solid economic structure that does not depend on speculative get rich schemes; yet these mfs, from both the right and the left, can’t stop attacking him using manufactured outrages.

If holier than thou leftist would prefer to invade countries that harbor terrorists then I say let’s draft their asses and send them to Afghanistan. Chris Hayes is still young enough to be sent to war. They can’t have it both ways: expect the president to keep them safe while tying his hands on how to deal with terrorists who respect no country boundaries. Likewise, if the right wingers want to protect their children’s future by reducing the debt, then I say tax their asses. We have this enormous debt because G.W. Bush indulged them by cutting their taxes at the same time he was embarking on waging two, very expensive, unpaid wars.To be honest, I would also like to see those who have financially benefited from these wars being asked to pay extra taxes on all the profits made from these wars.

Bottom line, I am sick and tired of these hypocrites, both from the right and the left, who have, from day one, done everything to undermine President Obama!

        • AxelFoley

          This.

          All. This.

    • Ebogan63

Not drones, sequester, trillion $$ debt, Keystone XL, or any white progressive hobby horse that Hayes an ‘nem pontificate about ad infinitum.

That is why Rev Al leaves those fools in the dust.

    • nathkatun7

Exactly rikyrah! In addition, Black Folks are not idiots. They know fully well that President Obama did not create the more than a trillion dollars debt; they know he inherited most of it from Bush and those Republicans who controlled Congress and launched two wars on a credit card at the same time that they cut taxes for the super rich. They know he needed to stimulate the economy to prevent the country from going into another Great Depression.

As for the drones, remember how they carried on,non-stop, blaming President Obama about the so called “Christmas underwear bomber” who never carried out his plan because he was apprehended? Are people not paying attention to the right wingers, like McCain and Graham, aided by the media, who are attacking President Obama over the Benghazi attacks that killed four Americans? Guess what, if those people plotting to carry out terrorists attacks were not taken out before they carried out their nefarious acts, it’s President Obama who would be held responsible if they killed Americans; and not some holier than thou media pundits like Chris Hayes and Rachel Maddow.

      • AxelFoley

Thank you, thank you, thank you!

If there is any–ANY–terrorist attack on U.S. soil on PBO’s watch, he WILL NOT get the benefit of the doubt or support from the GOP/media (but I repeat myself) that Bush got after 9/11.

And you know what? They WANT an attack to happen on his watch.

        • nathkatun7

“And you know what? They WANT an attack to happen on his watch.”

AxelFoley, I feel the same way as you do. Unlike Bush who sat on his hands and did nothing, after he received the PDB warnings about Bin Laden/Al Qaeda determined to attack America, which resulted in 3000 Americans being killed; if a similar attack, even with fewer casualties, happened on President Obama’s watch, you can be sure that people like John McCain and Lindsey Graham, with the acquiescence of the MSM, would be calling for his impeachment.

President Obama has been vigilant in protecting America. Rather than praising him for keeping America safe, the left is going after him for making sure that terrorists are taken out before they can plot to harm America or harm American troops. And the right wingers are going after him because four Americans were killed in Benghazi by terrorists, in a situation that he could not control. Does any one remember John McCain going on a rampage about 200 marines killed in terrorist attack in Lebanon during Saint Reagan’s presidency? Did McCain go on a rampage after terrorists attacked our embassies in Kenya and Tanzania under Bill Clinton? How about the shooting down of Pan-Am? Did McCain put a hold on nominees until he got all the answers?

Here are my questions to both the left and the right: First, how many Americans were killed by terrorists under Ronald Reagan, George Bush, Sr., Bill Clinton, and George W. Bush? Second, how many innocent people in other countries, like Grenada, Lebanon, Panama, Iraq over and over again, Serbia, Sudan, Afghanistan, were killed under the presidency of Ronald Reagan, George Bush, Sr., Bill Clinton and George Bush, Jr.? How does the record of these four Presidents, on these two questions, compare to the record of President Obama on the same questions?

I am proud that POU members refuse to conveniently suffer from the amnesia, which is now afflicting the MSM, the PL/Emoprogs, the GOP right wingers and many who are supposedly Black intellectuals. Thank God there are many other Americans who see through all the BS by the people who are attacking President Obama, non stop.

House Republicans Are Now Begging Obama to Save Them From Their Sequester

    By: Jason EasleyFeb. 24th, 2013

House Republicans are so desperate to avoid being held accountable for their sequester that they are asking President Obama to save them.

    …………………………………

Rep. Rogers’ comments did not come out of the blue. The Washington Examiner reported that House Republican leaders are trying to give away their power on the sequester to Obama, “Those conversations are happening and they’re happening at a leadership level. The bill would not try to replace the cuts, [but] it would instead give the president maximum authority to prioritize.”

They are trying this because they want to be able to blame Obama for any of the cuts that he might choose to make. Any defense cuts that the president made would be met with cries from Republicans that Obama doesn’t care about national security. House Republicans know that if the sequester cuts go into effect, they could lose control of the House. This real possibility is why Republican leaders are virtually begging the president to take their power away from them.

It is unlikely that the White House would entertain for a second taking responsibility for the cuts without asking for something big in return. That something would be more revenue. The White House would make it hurt by demanding a lot more revenue than is on the table right now.

Notice that Democratic Rep. Engel mentioned letting the sequester kick in, and then fixing it later. The message in that statement was clear. Democrats aren’t going allow House Republicans to weasel out of their responsibility for the sequester. Contrary to the BS that Bob Woodward is selling, Republicans like Paul Ryan have been pushing for the sequester since 2004.

House Republicans created this mess in 2011. They are now trying to pass the buck to President Obama, so that they can blame him for it later. Their latest move represents the sort of cynical, shallow, superficial tactics that the nation has learned to expect from the House leadership.

What I love is that Oscar Joyner is the most powerful person on that panel. Those cacs on the panel may not realize it and wanna talk down to him, but he reaches more people than they ever have and ever will. They don’t even know how irrelevant they are.

She so deserved it, too! Ol’ smug bitch.

  • lamh36

Alright, Oscars tonight I admit to being a fashion whore. I like to watch the red carpet, but I don’t ever watch the show live. I follow on twitter after the red carpet ends, but that’s about it. The last time I did watch was when I actually felt I had a horse in the race, that was when Dreamgirls was nominated for the awards (Eddie Murphy was robbed, BTW). This year’s Oscars I have no horse in any race, although I always root for Denzel and I looking forward to seeing the Bond tribute with Adele performing the Bond theme and Shirley Bassey!!!! Otherwise, I tend to root for the underdog in most categories, except best actor, I like Daniel Day Lewis as Lincoln and Sally Fields as Mary Todd, and I hate all the hype over the Silver Lining folks. So I’m just all about the fashion for me and I actually hope Seth McFarlane does well. If not, then the Academy will once again go back to old fogey hosts and as much as I like Billy Crystal…enough with Crystal as host.

    • nellcote

      I can’t stand Billy Crystal.

  • Miranda

Emoprogs really don’t see us. Look how they were all shocked at the number of listeners for the TJMS. They DO NOT SEE US. I bet if you asked Chris Hayes about 1911United, he would look at you like you had two heads. Have no idea who that is. No one in any barbershop or hair salon with that pic of the First Family on the wall talking about damn drones.

    • http://pragmaticobotsunite.blogspot.com/ Sepia

Hayes and Ana Marie Cox came across as entitled, smug brats. They didn’t even realize Oscar Joyner was nicely telling them they are non-mfing factors who are out of touch with PBO’s REAL base.

    • jziglar

The problem is that the PL is out of touch with many communities and especially the black community. There was a reason why Robert Gibbs called them the professional left. And it’s because they only talk to each other and they don’t understand the real world.

Most people care about jobs, education, pretty much bread and butter issues. Not 24 /7 conversations about drones.

    • AxelFoley

Y’know, I remember years ago, white folks on the right used to say that white folks on the left were racist, too. I used to write that off as them trying to deflect blame from themselves.

The years since PBO came on the scene have confirmed their claim. And now I see that they’ve always been that way. And that’s why I hate them more than I do racists on the right. I know where the right wing racists are coming from.

      • Miranda

EXACTLY! I’m right there with you on that!

      • TyrenM

Damn. Malcolm (paraphrased): Give me the southern cracker. He at least will tell you where he stands v. the northern cracker who will smile in your face while stabbing u in the back.
50 years later, ain’t shit new.

  • JojoRaze

Just reading about this chris hayes foolishness, and it is typical limosuine liberal garbage. For years Pl and emoprogs say PBO needs to use the ‘bully pulpit’ to get his goals across and PBO has been doing that and now we get hipster racism from Chris wondering why PBO is going to talk with us Negroes.

PBO has a multi-pronged strategy wrt th media. Ignore cable news since they don’t report but act like folk instigating fights. Focus on local media that targets convincable white voters as well as poc and build good-will in cities big and small. The local reporters will ask how PBO’s policies will affect them. Score one for pbo.

Three:Go on black, latino and other ethnic media and shore up your base. Get them informed and involved in issues. This is why Repubs were shook that more POC and college students showed up in 2012. Pbo had been sowing and watering his base and reaped the harvest. Pbo is gonna keep that formula so hayes better get used to be ignored.

    • rikyrah

      you have outlined it well.

    • jds09

Hipster racism. Exactly. Especially his bullshit comment about the absence of the “critical gaze”. Obviously he’s never heard a barber/beauty shop political discussion. I know some folks that would have his pasty ass for lunch.

    • nathkatun7

Bravo, JojoRaze, for this spot-on comment. Chris Hayes is so smug in his white privilege that he doesn’t know that many of us don’t even know, or care to know, who he is.

Prince to appear on Jimmy Fallon’s show Friday

NEW YORK (AP) — Prince is continuing to ramp up his public profile. This week, he’ll make an appearance on “Late Night with Jimmy Fallon.”

A rep for the late-night talk show confirmed the pop legend will appear on the show Friday and will perform two songs. It’s not clear whether he’ll perform new material or some of his classics.

The reclusive star has been back in the spotlight recently. He presented record of the year trophy at the Grammys, released the song “Screwdriver” on his new website and is due to perform several dates in Europe this summer.

Oscar nominee Quvenzhane Wallis heads for Easy Street as the star of ‘Annie’
    .
.By Bryan Enk | Yahoo! Movies Oscars Blog

Talk about a rags to riches story!

Quvenzhane Wallis will soon be trading the extreme poverty of the Bathtub for the extravagant wealth of Daddy Warbucks’ mansion as she’s officially signed on to play the title role in the new screen adaptation of “Annie.” The “Beasts of the Southern Wild” star was first rumored for the part earlier this month when Will Smith’s daughter Willow, who had long been attached to the project, officially “aged out” of the role upon turning 12 years old.

The character of Annie, a spunky, savvy yet trouble-prone orphan, first appeared in Harold Gray’s long-running comic strip, “Little Orphan Annie,” which made its debut on August 5, 1924. The strip took its name from the 1885 poem “Little Orphant Annie” by James Whitcomb Riley and followed the adventures of Annie, her dog Sandy and her benefactor, Oliver ‘Daddy’ Warbucks, which often served as timely commentaries on organized labor, communism and Franklin Delano Roosevelt’s New Deal (FDR himself would later appear as a character in the Broadway musical).

Please. Willow could have been 25 years old and Will would’ve put in in that movie as Annie had she not thrown a temper tantrum to get out of it.

The NRA was dead ass wrong for mentioning them in their ad, and the NAACP/Crisis Magazine is wrong for mentioning them in their anti-pipeline campaign.

    • Miranda

They have lost their got damn minds.

      • crazycanuck

well they have become emo progs, so no surprise there. I’m truly beginning to wonder who is really running the NAACP these days.

        • Camille

Benjamin Jealous is nothing more than a wannabe. He’s never had any vision or principles.

He just wanted to mingle and be deemed relevant and important.

His entire tenure has consisted entirely of mingling with society types, self-promotion and securing future well-paying positions for himself.

He has never cared about the organization or the people it serves. This was only his stepping stone. Rather unfortunate and quite a set-back for the NAACP.

        • AxelFoley

Black emo progs…I shall christen them–negro progs.

      • jziglar

It’s disgusting to use the president’s children as part of an attack. Children are off limits and these people need to stop with this crap. Second, the keystone pipeline has not been approved or rejected because a decision has not been made. So why are the acting like it was accepted ?

The emo left really makes me sick.

      • nathkatun7

You are absolutely right, Miranda! The people running the NAACP and the Crisis Magazine should be ashamed of themselves for using the President’s children to attack him. I never imagined that the NAACP would resort to using the same tactics as those used by right wing nuts of the National Rifle Association.

    • crazycanuck

I think it’s time for the NAACP to change it’s name, cause they really don’t do shit for AA anymore.

    • rikyrah

      f u, Ben Jealous

      • Camille

I told you Ben Jealous was full of shit.
What an asshole. No foresight, no sense of decency or respect.

    • nathkatun7

This is despicable! Why can’t these idiots leave the President’s children alone? So now NAACP and the Crisis Magazine are copying the the tactics of the NRA? What exactly has Ben Jealous done for the Black children? Why do the people at the Crisis Magazine think that they know about the future interests of Sasha and Malia better than their father?

      • GN

It’s past despicable. This is not surprising to me but it’s no less dismaying. These people do NOT speak for mainstream African Americans. NAACP/Crisis/Black Agenda Report etc. do not speak for or represent us at all. Terrible “leadership.”

        • nathkatun7

          “It’s past despicable.”

You are absolutely correct, GN! I also agree with you that the so called Black leaders of these AA organizations, like the NAACP and the CBC, do not speak for the majority in the AA communities. Instead of trying to work with the President to advance programs that benefit the AA community they are joining the right and the left in criticizing him, even on decisions he has not yet made. I don’t remember the NAACP doing this to either President Carter or President Clinton.

I hope Huggy Lowdown makes Chris Hayes his Bama of the Week.

The Impersonal Letters Sent From Arizona’s Senators To Aurora Victim’s Dad excerpt:A few weeks ago, Tom Teves, of Phoenix, sent his senators a letter. His 24-year-old son, Alex, was killed last year in the Aurora, Colo. movie theater massacre, and he wanted to tell them Alex’s story and encourage them to take action on guns.

What he got in response, he said, were cold, impersonal form letters from Sens. John McCain and Jeff Flake, both Republicans. Neither of the letters even addressed the Colorado massacre. In fact, they brought up an entirely different shooting, the schoolhouse killings in Newtown, Conn., and mentioned each senator’s ongoing support of the Second Amendment. It was like Alex Teves’ death hadn’t gotten through to the senators or their staffs.

Now, Tom Teves has shared the letters he received with TPM. He did so after his wife confronted McCain in-person Wednesday with her son’s story and a question about guns at a town hall event in Phoenix. McCain’s response included the remark that Caren Teves needed “some straight talk” on the issue of assault weapons.http://guncontrolnowusa.wordpress.com/2013/02/24/the-impersonal-letters-sent-from-arizonas-senators-to-aurora-victims-dad/

    – — Bobby Jindal Wages War on Reality by Accusing Obama of Using Scare Tactics – — –

    — —Governor Bobby Jindal (R-LA) is gutting his state in order to run for President in 2016, yet Jindal accused Obama of using scare tactics regarding the budget today on Meet the Press. In real life, Jindal shifted the tax burden to the poor, refused Medicaid expansion in his state, cut domestic violence funding by 16% and even threatened to kill hospice funding all together (he finally walked that one back after the outrage).
Here is the video from Meet The Press:

–While campaigning for the Republican nomination in 2016,– Jindal told Obama to stop campaigning, “My recommendation to the president is it’s time to stop campaigning, time to do the job in D.C. In my state we passed one of the most sweeping reform laws in the country giving real choice to our kids, putting great teachers in the classroom, tenure laws. Putting dollars in the classroom, significant tax reform. We have different ideas. We’re trying to get rid of the income tax in Louisiana.” – — -HAH!!”- – —
    — -SNIP – —
    – – – -Of course, what’s really bothering Governor Jindal is that President Obama is winning with his message, whereas Jindal has not had the same result. — Granted, it’s tough to sell getting rid of hospice, starving the poor, shifting the tax burden to the poor and middle class, and tossing hunted women and their children into hotels and hoping for the best. The President has it easier since he is selling not forcing the poor and middle class to bear the brunt of austerity measures.

    THERE IS MORE.

FLOTUS!!! Giving the Best Picture Award. Who knew?

    • Lisa M

Heads exploded all over the country!!

      • Camille

        How sad is that?
The mere sight of the president and First Lady drives these people nuts.

  • crazycanuck

I don’t like Affleck, I didn’t want him to win.

    • goldenstar

Ironic that FLOTUS presented the award to the Mr. Epitome of Purity.

      • crazycanuck

        Very ironic

    • Camille

      I’m not a fan either.

  • crazycanuck

Gonna say something here. Would love to see Quvenzhané Wallis keep it going in Hollywood, but it’s Hollywood, where very little roles go to black children, and even less to black women.

  • dannie22

im gonna need all the haterade for lttle Q Wallis to come to an end

    • crazycanuck

      What is with that?

  • Admiral_Komack

OK, what was The Onion’s “joke” about Quvenzhane Wallis?

    • Admiral_Komack

      I found it:
I assume it was a tweet:

Everyone else seems afraid to say it, but that Quvenzhané Wallis is kind of a cunt, right? #Oscars2013

      The Onion (@TheOnion) February 25, 2013

      • Camille

        Wow!

There’s no excuse for this. To call a kid that word – not even in jest. How very despicable!

The lack of respect and humanity some of these supposedly liberal people show black women and black kids is just so unbelievable.

I woke up this morning to the most ridiculous grumbling about our magnificent First Lady doing the Oscars an honor by presenting their best movie category – after they’d asked her.

How insane is this ODS so many people seem to be suffering from?

Did Bill Clinton not just show up at the bloody SAG awards to a standing ovation just 3 short weeks ago partly to lobby for his friend Spielberg and his movie Lincoln?

Did you hear anyone at all rag on Clinton for his appearance not just at the SAG awards, but at all the after parties following? Was it déclassé when Bill Clinton presented and partied at the SAG awards just 3 weeks ago?

But now it’s somehow un-First Lady like for the First Lady to accede to a request from The Academy to briefly appear from the White House to thank the artistes and present the Best movie award?

Is it lost on these people that in her capacity as Chair person of the President’s Committee on the Arts and Humanities, this actually very neatly fits into her role as First Lady.

They came to her! The Oscar people flew all the way to D.C to lobby her to do this. She didn’t even have to leave home like Clinton. They came to her!

My goodness, some people in this country have lost their freaking minds.

But heaven forbid this smart, gorgeous, caring, amazing First Lady be ever cast in positive light – or extended the courtesy and respect she has more than earned. Not as long as the spiteful, envious, shriveled upTina Brown’s of the world have their way.

        • rikyrah

          thank you, Camille

  • Admiral_Komack

This is how I found out about The Onion’s little joke (before finding out what was said).

    A Is For
    @AIsForOrg

@AIsForOrg: Shame on @TheOnion for their “joke” about Quvenzhane Wallis. She’s a nine year old girl. There is NO excuse for that.

    • Miranda

I hope the twitterati totally buried them for that shit.

    • Camille

Absolutely no excuse. None whatsoever. This is insane. Have we all completely lost our minds and humanity?

Targeting a nine year old kid – and little girl for that matter! This is beyond shameful and makes me so mad.

      • isonprize

The Onion called a little girl a cunt, one of the most offensive things that you can call a woman and thought, somehow, that it was what? Funny? Sarcastic?

What exactly, were they going for?

Obscene, vulgar, disparaging, offensive description of female genitalia. Wow… just wow.
