Sunday Evening Thread: The GOP Meltdown

On a lighter note, there is going to be a remake of Mahogany and guess who is said to be in the lead? Yep, Mrs. Carter herself beyonce. What do you all think of this?

    • crazycanuck

      Beyonce can’t act.

      • rikyrah

        no, she can’t act.

the part should go to someone who actually CAN act

      • angee

worth a dayum! But she keeps trying, bless her heart. Plus she’s gonna mess up, “Do You Know Where You Going to” screaming and hollering all over the record.
Some things are best left alone.

    • GN

I’d definitely watch it. Proud of her for pulling out of Clint “empty chair” Eastwood’s A Star is Born project.

      • angee

That girl didn’t pull out she was kicked out and Eastwood let her save face with that scheduling conflict lie.
Beyonce would have cut off her left AND right arm to work with crazyazz eastwood and follow in Streisand’s footsteps. Only thing is the big name male leads he wanted wouldn’t sign on if she played the lead and eastwood wanted BIG names like Bradley Cooper, Clooney to play opposite her.
It wasn’t a race thing it was devaluing their hollywood stock in playing a lead with beyonce cause she’s basically a joke in hollyweird.

          • angee

Yep beyonce pulled out just like mary J pulled out of Nina Simone and was replace with zoe.

          • isonprize

You ain’t right, ANgee. But seriously, YES YOU ARE! LOLOLOL

        • Camille

This is actually false. She did indeed drop out on her own terms and not because “she’s a joke”. And I am incredibly proud of her for doing so.

This is so unnecessary, petty and mean spirited.

What on earth has this young woman ever done to get these very personal attacks from black women? Whatever happened to lifting each other up? It’s hard enough out there.

Beyonce was indeed handpicked by Eastwood who has been working around her schedule, even waited through her pregnancy for her to have her baby.

Eastwood absolutely wanted her for the part, made a firm offer and signed her on. The movie was going to be made around her, per Eastwood. He desperately wanted her.

The male leads he actually had no real favorites and had yet to make any firm offers to anyone in particular.

Bradley Cooper, who is currently the flavor of the month in Hollywood has been booked up as is to be expected – you line up gigs as quickly before your 15 minutes is over. But that also causes serious scheduling conflicts.

Besides, Eastwood isn’t really still the bankable director he once was – even less so when he strays from original productions.

His last movie was a complete flop and it makes it even harder to sign up other actors who are already otherwise considering other scripts.

And this idea that Bradley Cooper is some serious, first class actor who is in a position to reject a movie because he thinks Beyonce “is a joke” is actually quite laughable.

Sometimes it really is just what it is. It was Beyonce’s to have. clint Eastwood scripted the entire thing around her. He reached out to her to play the part.
But in the end, she dropped out.

          • isonprize

            Hey Camille.

I don’t know Beyonce like that. Really, could care less. Can she perform? Hell yes. Can she model? Of course. Can she whip her hair back and forth? Always. (Her fashion design cred is questionable, but I digress)

What she can NOT do is act. Beyonce can’t act. She is not an actress. The reality is that in today’s Hollywood, she doesn’t need to be. So, I ain’t mad at her.

Make that paper, Bey. But don’t try to sell me on your acting chops. NOT GONNA HAPPEN.

          • Camille

You know what, whether she can act or not isn’t the point.

It’s the endless petty, mean-spirited attacks that are bothersome and tired.

          • TyrenM

Whew, y’all hard on Bey up in here (not you Camille.) My thoughts. Glad she came hard for the President. Acting? After Etta, she needs to leave Ms. Ross alone. Nice videos equals not acting chops.

          • Admiral_Komack

            Crabs in a barrel.,

      • Camille

Very proud of her too GN. She could have stayed out of the fray like many others, but she jumped all in for President Obama.

Anyone who proudly and publicly supported this President especially when it was no longer cool or popular, gets my love and support.

        • conlakappa

For whom was it no longer cool or popular to support the President beyond the likes of Affleck and Damon? That sounds like a bit of an overstatement.

          • Camille

            An overstatement? Not really.

Oprah was largely a no-show as were so many others who had so much less to lose.

Like it or not, it was much less popular to be be a vocal supporter this time around.

But Beyonce was one of the few who proudly and very publicly stood with this President through thick and thin. No disclaimers, no apologies, no qualifiers.

As far back as over a year and ago when the media ramped up their anti-Obama narratives to depress and turn Americans against the President, she came on CNN with Piers Morgan looked him in the eye, laughed in his face and told him that not only had this President accomplished amazing things on behalf of the American people, she was incredibly proud of him and would do everything in her power to help re-elect him.

Yea, many disappeared when the going got tough and a few returned and jumped on the bandwagon again in the last few weeks and days of this campaign, but Beyonce stayed consistent and gave it her best.

            She did good!

          • conlakappa

Of course Oprah stayed away: she’d been banned from the White House by the First Lady because she was having an affair with the President, at least that’s what the National Enquirer told me!!! Oprah no longer has the same platform and has been struggling the past few years to get her network righted. Protecting her investment in that surely had the front burner.

I’m looking at Beyonce within the full context of both election years, if we’re going to compare her with Oprah: she didn’t play a role in Campaign 2008, demurring as to not upset her crossover fans [maybe Popager Matthew was still advising?]. Like J.Lo, she didn’t check in until after victory was assured. At Last, indeed.

All that being said, I don’t think not liking Beyonce/noting her lack of acting chops is an indication of disloyalty to the sisterhood. She’s not that little cousin performing at the family reunion and we feel compelled to clap politely, smile, and say she did good.

          • THIS.

Honestly, the only celebrity that has had PBO’s back for his ENTIRE presidency, who has put in actual work is John Legend. That brotha has put his heart and soul into working and defending PBO and his policies. For me, that holds way more weight than answering a question during an interview.

          • Camille

Funny how Oprah a billionaire twice over with very little to lose gets to in your opinion “protect her investment”, but Beyonce who is worth so much less and has a whole lot more to lose in the long run, and who actually did do a lot in both campaigns as far as that group goes, is somehow slammed.

The unprovoked and very personal attacks on this young woman is pathetic and frankly nothing to boast about – sisterhood, little cousin or not.

            It diminishes you.

    • Miranda

Mahogany and Lady Sings The Blues need to be left alone. Ms. Ross owns those roles. I just know there has to be some worthy original scripts out there being written, right? It seems like all of Hollywood has run out of ideas.

      • angee

Next they gonna be doing a remake of Cooley High smdh.

        • Miranda

          HUSH YO MOUF!!!!!!!!

        • crazycanuck

          Don’t even go there

        • AxelFoley

Hell, they was supposed to be remaking The Last Dragon with Samuel L. Jackson as Sho’ Nuff.

      • caribbeanobserver

Apart from Hollywood running out of ideas, I am so tired of what I call the the ‘victim channel’ i.e Lifetime. Jeez, it is always focused on women playing the victim, as in being taken in by,and/or fighting for a man she can’t have, or some flimsy gooey storyline that is thoroughly absurd. Yes, that is one network that needs upgrading to the woman of strength meme of modern day woman.

        • Admiral_Komack

          The Lifetime Channel:
Where the women are vicious…and the cops are SO dumb.

    • Hell. No.

    • lamh36

Is it bad that I think Solange would be better. She actually has more of the look of Diana than Beyonce’ does.

      • angee

You know what you are right! Hell I think Kelly would do better than beyonce. She has more of a model like bout her. But what beyonce wants, beyonce gets.

—– –McCain Refuses To Support Any Secretary Of State Nominee – –

    – – –Sen. John McCain (R-AZ) has not hesitated to voice his distaste towards U.S. Ambassador to the U.N. Susan Rice, who may be nominated to replace Hillary Clinton as Secretary of State. On Face the Nation Sunday morning, McCain went even further than simply opposing Rice’s nomination and said that, “until we find out all the information” on the Benghazi consulate attacks, he would not support any Secretary of State nominee.

McCain at first said it “might be a beginning” if Rice could come on the program to explain her position. But when pressed by host Bob Schieffer, the Arizona senator dug in and refused to support any nominee “under the present circumstances”:

SCHIEFFER: Until then, you will remain opposed to her nomination?

MCCAIN: Under the present circumstances, until we find out all the information as to what happened, I don’t think you would want to support any nominee right now. Because this is very very serious and it has even larger implications than the deaths of 4 Americans. It really goes to the heart of this whole light foot print policy that this administration is pursuing.

    – – – –Republicans Abandon Romney in Droves After ‘Gifts’ Comments – — -LOL – –

    – — —Mitt Romney’s comments to donors about the “gifts” that President Barack Obama gave to constituents to win the election continue to cause members of his party to run away from the former candidate. Despite their insistence during the election that Romney’s position on entitlement in America was accurate, the new consensus among the GOP politicians, if not their pundits, is that Romney’s statements could not be more wrong.

After several prominent Republican governors expressed their disagreement with Romney’s statements, the hits have continued coming. New Jersey Governor Chris Christie, considered at one point by the Romney campaign as a possible running mate, said on Friday, “You can’t expect to be a leader of all the people and be divisive. You have to talk about themes, policies that unite people, and play to their aspirations and their goals and their hopes for their family and their neighbors.”

Tim Pawlenty, former Minnesota governor and another potential running mate for Romney, though silent on Romney’s 47% comments, likewise shot-down Romney’s “gifts” theory.

Those who didn’t outright disagree with Romney’s words disagreed with his message. Appearing on Meet the Press on Sunday, Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-SC) stated that it wasn’t his intention to vilify those who are beneficiaries of public assistance programs: – – – -[HAH! – – -THIS — -DEEP DOWN RACIST!!] – – —

Think of the first or early albums of Chaka Khan, Teena Marie, Prince. (Hell, even Lauryn Hill and Erica Badu before bofe of ’em went nuts… LOLOL.) In addition, the artists actually had STAGE SHOWS. When you went to a concert, you got your money’s worth. Original REAL music with lyric, Composition. Actual musicians who had soul and emotion.

He said that next time, the GOP should “agree that we’re gonna do, you know, I don’t know, eight debates, and we’re gonna, we’re gonna do one a month, and we’re gonna pick stations that are reasonable, it’s not all gonna be done by CNN and NBC, alright, I mean we’re gonna try and guide this process so that it’s designed to showcase the best of our people as opposed to showcasing liberals beating the heck out of us.”more crap he spewed on that phone call with donors as to why he got his ass kicked by PBO.

    – – – –Look in the Mirror – – –

    – – –Here is an Australian point of view on Mitt Romney and the presidential election.

In the minds of many critics, Mr Romney’s comments about Mr Obama’s “gifts” reinforces the idea that he lacked empathy with voters to start with. Many Republicans were lukewarm about their candidate: he was seen as the best of a lacklustre field.

    – — SNIP – —

    – -Mitt Romney doesn’t act like he failed. He acts like he was betrayed or cheated. He ought to look in the mirror and ask himself why everyone in the United Kingdom hates his guts. He is a very unpleasant man. No one likes him. That’s the beginning point for understanding why he lost. He probably thinks he wasn’t enough of a jerk. After all, the only jump he ever got in the polls was a reward for a debate performance in which he treated the president with disrespect and told about seventy-five lies. His base likes it when people tell lies about the president. But his base isn’t big enough to win a national election. Mitt Romney lost for a lot of reasons, but the most glaring reason is that he is a dick.

Well shit, I know what I’ll be doing Thanksgiving night. Spike Lee’s Michael Jackson Bad 25 documentary with never before seen behind the scenes videos shown, will be on ABC Thanksgiving night.

Just a small thought… but maybe Disqus should give the guinea pigs that row this boat an extra ration seeing as how it is almost Thanksgiving…

Or maybe the PTB’s here should have a chat with their own “geek squad” because you do have some problems here that do not seem to be all over other Disqus sites….just saying….difficulty logging on & very sloooow………

Are you absolutely sure you have not been hacked?

    • isonprize

AG, I wondered the same thing. I’ve visited other site that use the evil Disqus. They don’t seem to have similar problems…

SUPERSONIC!!! Iamh36 You are too much!! Did you have a jacket like that?

If you think about it, that style is sorta back now. Big sweaters instead of the jackets, leggings and uggs or riding boots instead of sneakers.
