    Yesterday after reading about Mrs.Obama’s speech I thought of Jon Karl, who in his need to report something critical, had just the day before compared her trip unfavorably to those of her predecessors (Laura, Hillary) for not speaking about human rights. It’s stunning that he couldn’t even wait to see what she was going to do before criticizing her for not doing it. The same was true with Ezra Klein; he immediately jumped all over the roll-out of the ACA website as though that was going to be the end of the story. It’s why none of these people have any credibility because in their haste to hate they are always proven wrong.

    As far as Coates and MHP are concerned, I think they are operating no differently than RWNJ sites/TV shows, the far left and people like Klein by using hatred of PBO to increase ratings and website traffic. Create a fake controversy which pleases PBO’s critics and angers his supporters. The blowback doesn’t matter to them as long as it moves the needle, serves the interests of their corporate masters and keeps the paychecks rolling in.

    • morphus

      Obama-hate serves multiple purposes, most notably its a multi-billion “business” that spans across various sectors: books, t-shirts, gun sales, etc. and its designed to tap-down high expectations in the Black community. Watching the psychosis of ODS manifest itself in many forms at times for me is disconcerting as yet liberating. Its disconcerting because I say to myself “haven’t we already won that battle?” On the other hand, its liberating because my suspicions about this society are affirmed. Personally, I rather confront and do battle upfront against racism and hate versus shadow boxing and chasing ghosts when the society denied its hate and racists tendencies.

      • jds09

        “On the other hand, its liberating because my suspicions about this society are affirmed.” I love this with the intensity of 1000 hot suns.

        This morning I saw a tweet with a pic of the Obamas Photoshopped with ape faces, from a current mainstream Belgian newspaper that’s making the conservative rounds.

        They ain’t hiding it, they’re trying to intimidate folks with it and IT’S NOT WORKING. POTUS and FLOTUS are under attack and they are winning.

        They’ve killed the Southern Strategy and now they’re cutting up respectability politics. If these two, with their resumes and accomplishments, are reduced to apes, then no amount of “good behavior” will ever be good enough. Ever. That in itself is liberating.

    • JojoRaze

      Good morning, all. I have stopped watching all cable and national news media, period. It’s just click bait and I refuse to join in. MHP is a punk, as is Coates and i have no time for them. They know better and should do better. Their shelf life is Jan 17 2017. Like PBO told O’Reilly, What will you do after I’m gone?

    • gn

      100% correct. It’s because they’re shock-jocking. PBO is Bush, PBO is Cheney (remember Coates saying PBO became “the man Dick Cheney fashioned himself to be” in 2012, a presidential election year? yeah), PBO is Ryan, healthcare.gov is Hitler blah blah blah. Who wants to read that shit. When someone has a nuanced, balanced, non-hysterical take on the few ways that the President can address some issues differently, that’s fine. I would LOVE a real discussion of how the WH can show more agility wrt black unemployment crisis. But I think you’re exactly right in terms of people making certain statements for the shock value, which to me is lowest common denominator stuff. Sick of hearing intelligent lefty commenters sounding like Larouche. Enough already.

    • Kennymack1971

      Bottom line: they can bitch and whine, write bullshit thinkpieces from now til 2017, take all the cheap shots they can….and at the end of the day Barack and Michelle Obama will still be President and First Lady. When their time in the White House they’ll go on to be two of the most beloved goodwill ambassadors ever. So they’re just going to have to….yep…STAY MAD.

    • jds09

      We are not MHP and Coates audience. They share Maddow’s audience.

    • MonieTalks

      I agree 100% with you.

      But the real deal with these folks is that they don’t care that they are ultimately wrong, that their purposely misguided rants are premature…..that is EXACTLY the reason why they do what they do. They want to create meme in this reality show media environment we live in that cannot be shaken, even when proven false or blown significantly out of proportion. Obamacare has been successful and is groundbreaking, but because of Ezra Klein and the rest of the media’s shenanigans, it will always be prefaced with “After it’s troubling start..” even when news is positive.

      And far too many people, including so-called Black “aca-demons” like MHP have subscribed to the bias and double standardsof PBO being “President while Black” stirring up so many non-controversies and accusations that have no business being brought forth.

    The Resident starring Hilary Swank is airing this morning at 10am eastern on LMN. I saw it a few days ago but missed some of the beginning. I think it had to be one of the creepiest, most disturbing movies I’ve ever seen. I meant to comment about it the other day and forgot. Check it out if you’re interested.

    Hillary Clinton says she is “very much concerned” about the direction of the country.

    Hillary Rodham Clinton told a group of enthusiastic college students
    Saturday that she is “very much concerned about the direction of our
    country” but was still deciding whether to pursue another presidential
    campaign.

    During a forum at the Clinton Global Initiative University, Clinton
    fielded a question from Vrinda Agrawal, a student at the University of California, Berkeley who asked, “If you don’t represent women in
    politics in America as a future president, who will?”

    More than 1,000 students roared with approval and applauded while former President Bill Clinton smiled, whispered into TV host Jimmy Kimmel’s ear and clapped along.

    The former first lady said she appreciated the sentiment but was still deciding.

    “I am very much concerned about the direction of our country and it’s not just who runs for office but what they do when they get there and how we bring people together and particularly empower young people so we can tackle these hard decisions,” Clinton said.

    • crazycanuck

      I cannot stand that woman, never did and never will

    • morphus

      From my vantage point, Hillary Clinton’s supporters in 2008 left the Democratic party waiting on the sidelines for their chance to win the 2016 election. Democratic activists in Iowa recently rejected Hilbots when telling them we are busy trying to win the midterm. They basically told Hilbots if you’re not here to help us win midterms we have no time for you.

      • Town

        And they included Democrats in Congress who decided not to lift a finger for Obama but will expect Obama voters to hook them up in 2016.

        • morphus

          Absolutely. Time will let if Democrats sitting on the sideline receives the reverberating message of late, “running away from Obama is bad idea”.

      • jds09

        Good for Iowa. The worship of Conventional Wisdom is going to fuck a lot of people up. This whole vibe reminds me of the run up to 2012, CW lovers all amped up while OFA was quietly laying the groundwork for the ass whupping that was to come. If the grassroots people aren’t having it, I’m reassured.

    • jds09

      I may be the only person on the planet who believes this but….I don’t think she’s running. Billary is amassing wealth. Bubba earned 50+ million after he left office in books and “speaking fees” and established the Clinton Foundation which is a hot mess because its so poorly ran, yet it is a cash cow.

      HRC is selling her potential presidency as “access” to her hedge fund friends who want their night in the Lincoln bedroom.

      The AP are shit stirrers I don’t trust their spin. HRC has very old baggage that refuses to die, serious health problems, she’s a hawk in a war weary climate and the mix bag that is Bubba.

      • morphus

        I can agree, in many ways, its seems that Hilbots want their “win”. Maybe Billary watched and learned from the Robme campaign’s ability to earn $$millions$$ making empty promises?

        • jds09

          HRC’s quotes sound like canned political platitudes in Billary old-style triangulation mode.

          She’s tacking to the right, which makes no sense looking at the country’s growing demographics. Did she even pick-up the “white working class” vote?

          In the long run, I think this works for a fearless democratic candidate, they can quietly build and infrastructure, while the MSM focuses on Hillary and the GOP prepares to defeat her, and make their move when most of America begins to pay attention.

          • http://oldhollywood.net/ woody45

            I would love for that to be their strategy but I don’t know.

          • http://oldhollywood.net/ woody45

            I would love for that to be their strategy but I don’t know.

          • goldenstar

            You may be on to something here.

          • creolechild

            She’s trying to scoop up the ones who jumped over to the GOP side because they couldn’t find it in themselves to vote for THAT ONE.

            That’s all well and good…but does she really think she can get enough support to win without the black and Latino vote? For once, her and Bubba should ignore their ginormous egos and stay on the circuit collecting huge fees and while they’re at it…keep PBO’s name out of their mouths.

      • isonprize

        jds, I actually don’t think she wants to run, but that doesn’t necessarily mean that she won’t. You do bring a good point, because if nothing else, she and Bill are definitely opportunists. And after all these years in the public eye, they ain’t about that average life.

        • http://oldhollywood.net/ woody45

          In politics you have to be an opportunist because the road is built for failure. But I’m in the camp where I still don’t think she’s going to run either. Seems like too many variables.

    House of Cards on netflix is *excellent*—I’m watching a marathon of this and it’s off the chain. Definitely on par with Scandal and possibly better.

        This is excellent; I don’t know how I slept on this show.

        You and me both! I was trying to stretch out my viewing of S2 knowing I’d have to wait a year for the next season, but I couldn’t wait. I was still going, “What?!” “OMG!” days after I finished watching.
        It’s a good thing “Orphan Black” is coming back in another few weeks or I’d have no TV shows at all.

He threw her in front of that train, no warning, no cliffhanger, just bam. I see why House of Cards got so many award nods. Absolutely excellent.

      Did you ever watch the British original?

      Fabulous.

        No, I’ll have to hunt that down. This really is fabulous, almost too bad that it’s only on Netflix.

      • conlakappa

        I won’t watch new version because I love original recipe too much. The Urquarts had no redeeming qualities but I hear there is a slice of humanity in the American version, which, no.

        • goldenstar

          Correcto! The optics of the Obama entourage is highly appealing to the Chinese because the grandmother is present. The great tension between modern life and cultural norms for respect of the elderly is something many families face in China. The Obamas are giving this a very modern twist. All good!

    According to some of my older relatives, this performance on The Merv Griffin Show is mild by comparison to some of the stuff he did in concert. Coming out of a coffin, cobwebs on stage, etc.

    Obama aide: US sanctions effectively weakening Russia

    — – —- White House deputy national security adviser Tony Blinken argued Sunday the United States’ sanctions are effectively hurting Russia’s economy even though they haven’t deterred Russian President Vladimir Putin.

    Michelle Obama Praised For Style, Warmth In China

    Mrs. Obama, traveling with her two daughters, has been photographed at famous spots including the Forbidden City and Great Wall during the first independent trip by a U.S. president’s wife to China. She has won compliments for her elegant clothing and her interactions with ordinary people in a country where it is rare to see leaders’ spouses or children in public.

    “She is very warm and frank, and when she is talking to people she
    conscientiously listens to what they have to say,” said Wu Qing, a
    retired professor of Beijing Foreign Studies University who met Mrs.
    Obama on Sunday. “In China, we usually use weather to express our mood or state of mind, so the fact that the weather has been so nice these few days means she is very welcome in China,” Wu said.[....]

        I did a quick search and found this:

        [....] Veneto’s President Luca Zaia – who supports the independence movement – said the region is tired of the lack of respect from Rome. “Veneto is the region that has been supporting financially Italy and the main reason [for separation from Italy] is economics,” Lodovico Pizzati, spokesman for the Veneto independence movement, told RT.

        “We pay 70 billion euros in taxes to the Italian state and only a fraction comes back, so we’re looking at a gap of 20 billion euros.” Professor of history Paolo Bernardini explained that Veneto, as well as Milan and Lombardy, are stranded by the fiscal pressure coming from Rome.[....]

    Blow By Blow: A Comprehensive Timeline Of The GOP’s 4-Year Battle To Kill Obamacare

    By Igor Volsky on March 23, 2014 at 10:55 am

    The Affordable Care Act celebrates it fourth birthday on Sunday, just as its first enrollment period comes to a close.

    It has been a long battle to get to this level of implementation — and the fight hasn’t ended yet. From Republicans’ initial resistance to repealing Obamacare in its entirety to their relentless effort to chip away at the law by targeting individual provisions, withholding funding, and undermining implementation, the party is showing no signs of abandoning its anti-Obamacare crusade any time soon.

    On this anniversary, ThinkProgress takes a look back at all of the milestones in the GOP’s ongoing campaign to undermine a law that has defined national politics for half a decade:
    MARCH 23, 2010: An immediate push to repeal.

    Immediately after President Obama signed the Senate health care bill into law, 13 Republican state attorneys general file a federal lawsuit against the overhaul and Sens. Jim DeMint (R-SC), Rep. Michele Bachmann (R-MN) and Rep. Steve King (R-IA) introduce legislation to repeal the law. King even offers a discharge petition. “If we can get to 218, we can force Nancy Pelosi to bring a repeal to the floor for a vote. If the Senate can do that…we have a chance to put a repeal on President Obama’s desk and make him veto that bill,” King explained. “Repeal and replace will be the slogan for the fall,” Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) predicts. 14 Disturbing Stats About Racial Inequality in American Public Schools

    [....] Comprehensive data released Friday by the US Department of Education’s Office for Civil Rights offers a striking glance at the extent of racial inequality plaguing the nation’s education system.

    1. Black students accounted for 18 percent of the country’s pre-K
    enrollment, but made up 48 percent of preschoolers with multiple
    out-of-school suspensions.

    2. Black students were expelled at three times the rate of white students.

    3. American Indian and Native-Alaskan students represented less than 1 percent of students, but 3 percent of expulsions.

    4. Black girls were suspended at higher rates than all other girls and most boys.

    5. American Indian and Native-Alaskan girls were suspended at higher rates than white boys or girls.

    6. Nearly one in four boys of color, excepting Latino and Asian American students, with disabilities received an out-of-school suspension.

    7. One in five girls of color with disabilities received an out-of-school suspension.

    8. A quarter of the schools with the highest percentage of black and Latino students did not offer Algebra II.

    9. A third of these schools did not offer chemistry.

    10. Less than half of American Indian and Native-Alaskan high school students had access to the full range of math and science courses, whichconsists of Algebra I, Geometry, Algebra II, calculus, biology, chemistry and physics.

    11. Black and Latino students accounted for 40 percent of enrollment at schools with gifted programs, but only represented 26 percent of students in such programs.

    12. Black, Latino and Native American students attended schools with higher concentrations of first-year teachers (3 to 4 percent) than white students (1 percent).

    13. Black students were more than three times as likely to attend schools where fewer than 60 percent of teachers meet all state certification and licensure requirements.

    14. Latino students were twice as likely to attend such schools.

    Yahoo: How Obama Crippled A Russian Bank With A Stroke Of A Pen

    He may not take shirtless horseback rides across the steppes, or have a black belt in judo, but on Thursday, President Obama sent a message to Russian president Vladimir Putin about strength. Specifically, economic strength. The message was this: Whenever I decide to, I can pick up a pen, and kill a significant financial institution in your country. Obama’s victim was the St. Petersburg-based Bank Rossiya. In response to Russia’s takeover of the Ukraine’s Crimean peninsula, Obama yesterday authorized the Treasury Department to add 20 members of Putin’s inner circle, as well as Bank Rossiya, to the Office of Foreign Asset Control’s list of “specially designated nationals.”

    The designation makes the individuals named ineligible to do business with U.S. financial institutions, which is likely a major personal inconvenience. But for Bank Rossiya, the designation is something like the kiss of death. Bank Rossiya is not the largest bank in Russia by a long shot, but its significance lies in its clientele rather than its size. In announcing the sanctions, the Treasury Department noted that Bank Rossiya “is the personal bank for senior officials of the Russian Federation” including members of the Ozero Dacha Cooperative, an exclusive community where members of Putin’s inner circle live. In addition, it provides financial services to the single largest segment of the Russian economy – the oil, gas, and energy sector.

    Jonathan Cohn: The Koch Brothers Are Accidentally Advertising The Benefits Of Obamacare

    Some new advertisements attacking the Affordable Care Act actually show why the law is working. The ads are running in Colorado and Louisiana, two states where incumbent Democratic senators face difficult reelection fights. They come from Americans for Prosperity, the conservative organization backed by the Koch Brothers. In short, these stories may generate sympathy but they are rarely the stuff of tragedy. And that’s because of the protections Obamacare provides—which is to say, the very things that Koch-funded right-wingers want to gut.

    After all, it’s Obamacare that sets a minimum standard for insurance, so that all policies include comprehensive benefits and set limits on out-of-pocket spending. It’s Obamacare that puts coverage within financial reach of many more people than before, by offering those subsidies and then, for some people, reducing out-of-pocket expenses even more. In the old days, it wasn’t so hard to find tear-jerker anecdotes: People without insurance or with inadequate insurance were filing for bankruptcy, losing their homes, and missing out on essential medicine. Now those stories are less common and, for the most part, they are among people who had these same problems previously. Telling the stories of these people would be a rationale for expanding the Affordable Care Act, not repealing it.

    http://www.newrepublic.com/article/117101/koch-brothers-obamacare-ads-new-ones-suggest-law-working

    • morphus

      If you follow the GOP, there must be an actual GOP playbook somewhere. The Kochs or their advisors obviously believe their ads will cause Obamacare to suffer the same fate of Hillarycare rollout. Supposedly IIRC the Bill and Mary dinner table discussion TV ad absolutely horrified the American public.

        The GOP & Kochs are stuck in the 20th century.

    Sandra Chereb: Nevada Sees Surge In Medicaid Enrollments

    Nevada Medicaid enrollments under federal health care reform have surpassed initial projections and are on pace to reach 500,000 by summer, a mark initially not expected to be reached until the end of the 2015 fiscal year, a state official said. Mike Willden, director of the Department of Health and Human Services, said his agency has a backlog of 60,000 pending Medicaid applications, and he may need to speed up hiring to keep up with the demand. “We’ve doubled capacity. We really need to triple capacity,” Willden told the Board of Examiners on Tuesday. The Division of Welfare and Supportive Services began receiving electronic enrollments through Nevada’s health insurance exchange,

    Nevada Health Link, in October. At the start, the agency was receiving about 121 applications per day electronically, representing about 40 percent of all Medicaid applications, Willden said. By December, “the floodgates opened” and enrollments jumped dramatically, sometimes reaching 3,000 per day, Willden said. “Since mid-December, the pipeline is wide-open and we are getting thousands of Medicaid applications each and every day,” he said. Under President Barack Obama’s health care law, states were given the option to expand Medicaid eligibility to include people up to 138 percent of the federal poverty level. When the current fiscal year began July 1, Nevada had 320,000 enrolled in Medicaid. By February, that number spiked to 402,000

    Paul Ryan Gets An Earful From Constituent Who Will Save Hundreds Under Obamacare

    By Scott Keyes on March 20, 2014 at 9:01 am

    RACINE, Wisconsin — Rep. Paul Ryan (R-WI) has been one of the primary architects of the GOP’s ongoing crusade to repeal and replace Obamacare. Most recently, the Budget Chairman has indicated that Republicans will attempt to pass individual reforms to roll back the health law’s provisions piece by piece.

    But not all of Ryan’s constituents agree with his position. On Wednesday, the Republican congressman was confronted by one such voter at a town hall in southeast Wisconsin.

    “ACA subsidies are a good thing,” Michael Martincic, 64, of Oak Creek told Ryan, criticizing his Party’s repeated attempts to get rid of the health reform law.

    Martincic works as a roofer and is currently paying $700 for his health insurance through his union. However, upon browsing Healthcare.gov — “it was so easy to get on the site; the whole thing only took 15 minutes,” Martincic told ThinkProgress afterward — he found that he qualified for subsidies and could be paying as little as $200 for coverage.

    Martincic also told Ryan about others who had been helped by Obamacare as well, including a friend with leukemia whose out-of-pocket expenses had been cut in half. At several points, the crowd clapped and cheered for him.

    Alabama lawmakers pass medical marijuana bill

    The Alabama Legislature has unanimously passed a bill legalizing
    medical marijuana. The legislation now heads to the desk of Gov. Robert Bentley, who has supported the effort. Under the measure, it will be legal to possess prescribed medical grade, non-intoxicating extract known as CBD, or cannabidiol. The extract oil is low in
    tetrahydrocannabinol, or THC, which is the intoxicating entity in
    marijuana.

    The oil was banned by Congress in 1972 after it was deemed to
    have no medical use. However, some studies have shown it can
    treat many conditions, including seizures. It has since been
    legalized in 20 states, the Medical Marijuana ProCon website
    reported. Known as Carly’s Law, the Alabama bill was originally conceived to help toddlers suffering from violent seizures as a result of a severe neurological disorder.[....]

      If Putin cared one iota about these people, he would not have started this foolishness.

      • jds09

        PBO is slowly choking them out. Years ago, when he was just hitting the scene, some source from Chicago described PBO as “ruthless” and “he will destroy you using the rules.” I have never forgotten that.

        • Aquagranny911

          Me neither & we have seen this more than once. People discount & disrespect PBO to their own peril.

        • goldenstar

          I’m not sure if the “ruthless” applies BUT if you do wrong to others, oh, he. will. shut. your. ass. down.

          • Town

            Anyone who defies the odds to become the first black president is ruthless. Don’t let the smooth taste fool ya. Had people shaking their Shirley Temple curls & crying. All they could say was that he was just there cuz he’s black. And that was just the Democrats! GOP STILL pulling shoe leather out of their assholes to this day!

          • conlakappa

            I agree and he said as much when he talked about being a good counter-puncher and “I destroy them!” That was considered braggadocio.

      PBO’s many detractors are so consumed with defeating him or seeing him defeated that perhaps if he invited some of these fools over to the White House for a game of Checkers, Tic Tac To or Rock Paper Scissors and allow them a win, they’ll release the country from their hostage taking and obstruction. Just a thought, LOL.

    POU fam in Cali, keep track of purchases because you know how this goes. One minute they’ll declare that there weren’t any breaches, followed by a statement indicating that an undetermined number of consumers’ personal information has been compromised…

    California DMV: No evidence of computer breach

    [....] DMV spokesman Armando Botello said the agency was alerted by law enforcement to a potential security breach within its online credit-card processing systems.[....] But the agency has opened an investigation, and it’s cooperating with state and federal authorities. As part of the probe, DMV will review its systems and seek information from the outside vendor that processes credit-card transactions and from credit-card companies.[....]

      LAWD. My credit union re-issued everybody’s ATM card due to Target.

        I feel you! We just went through that recently when Hubby’s card info got stolen. It is such a pain in the ass, especially if you have any auto pays going on it.

        Did Target give you free 6 month credit monitoring? At least Adobe & Chase paid for that for us.

    The clean energy industry is turning Nevada green

    [....] According to the report, $2.3 billion worth of solar projects are
    operating in Nevada, many of them installed by an 80-company-strong solar industry that employs 2,400 people. Geothermal energy has long been an important part of Nevada’s energy mix, and the report notes about $1 billion of investment in that sector since 2009. Wind energy remains nascent, though 66 turbines are spinning at the Spring Valley Wind project.

    All of these projects will help Nevada meet its goal of getting 25
    percent of its electricity from renewable sources by 2025. About two-thirds of the electricity sold in Nevada currently comes from natural gas, with a hefty dose of coal in there as well.[....]

    Ted Cruz Throws a Temper Tantrum After Eric Holder Refuses His Special Investigator Request

    After Attorney General Eric Holder refused to appoint a special
    prosecutor to investigate Obama and the IRS, Sen. Ted Cruz released a tantrum like statement where he stomped his feet and repeatedly compared Obama and the IRS to Nixon and Watergate.[....] With the repeal Obamacare movement dying by the second, Cruz is in desperate need of another vehicle to attach his outsized political ambitions to.

    Republicans have no credibility on these scandals, because their allegations are baseless conspiracy theories that have no evidence supporting them. Ted Cruz doesn’t need evidence. He knows that Obama is guilty of something. His temper tantrums where he throws around Nixon and Watergate keep the donations rolling in, but they make the Republican Party look even more absurd than usual.

    Born in Prison, Now Back Behind Bars with a Mission

    [....] Now in her fifties, she spent her first year of life at a federal prison in Alderson, West Virginia with her birth mother before being put into foster care and then adopted by a white couple in Seattle when she was four.[....] Deborah spent much of her teenage years in a drug-fueled haze. She took crystal meth and heroin, committed armed robbery and cash machine schemes, and even used her body to smuggle cocaine-filled balloons across the country.[....] After “white-knuckling” her way through withdrawal, Deborah began the process of healing—one that included reconciling with her adoptive parents, earning a Bachelor’s degree in economics, and, after 20 years of requests, receiving permission to visit the prison that was her first “home.”[....]

    Over a decade ago, Deborah used her unique talents to begin offering writing workshops in women’s prisons. There, she discovered talented voices clamoring to be heard. “Women in prison are a disappeared group, and the majority is sentenced for substance abuse and domestic violence offenses,” she says with an emotional sigh. “I want people to notice these women are not scary. They are wounded human beings who need compassion and life tools.” Both are offered through The unPrison Project, or UPP, the nonprofit organization Deborah created in 2012 to empower women in prison.

    Since its formation, she has presented workshops to 15,000 female inmates, reaching 400-2,500 women at a time, in 10 states. Wardens in an additional 28 prisons in states including Florida, Kentucky, Oklahoma, Colorado, Texas and New York have invited her in to speak. Her reputation continues to grow as speaking requests pour in from prisons overseas. These institutions often house schools, as children stay with their mothers there until they’re 12 years of age.[....]

    Above 6,000 German companies to be hit by sanctions on Russia- export body

    [....] “About 6,200 German companies are engaged in Russia, some of them very strongly,” Anton Boerner, head of the BGA
    exporters’ body, told the Dortmunder Ruhr Nachrichten newspaper.
    “For them, economic sanctions would be a real catastrophe.” In the ongoing tensions between Russia and the West Angela Merkel has always insisted that Germany would “make clear that we are ready at any time” to increase sanctions against Russia “if there is a worsening of the situation”.[....]

    In the second round of sanctions announced Thursday the EU
    added 12 more Russians to the list; they’ll see a travel ban and asset freeze. The US also issued a new list which adds 20 more Russian officials. Russia is one of Germany’s biggest trading partners, as the country is ranked the 7th biggest import market in 2013,according to Germany’s Statistics service. For the EU Russia
    ranks the third on the list of business allies, with the trade
    turnover estimated at $330 billion.[....]

    Digital Artist Creates Magical Worlds For Seriously Ill Kids

    Since May of 2012 Shawn Van Daele has devoted his skills as a digital artist to a mission of mercy, creating gorgeous whimsical worlds for youngsters who are overcoming heart transplants and chemotherapy. To start, the 37-year-old asks for drawings from the child that represent their biggest passion – from dinosaurs to castles, from pirates to fairies. Then he produces a dreamscape in which they are the main character.[....]

    Van Daele wants to collect the artwork, the children’s stories and
    original drawings, under the common theme that “anything is possible,” for an inspirational storybook to be distributed to clinics, hospitals and therapy centres across Ontario, Canada, and elsewhere.(Watch video below.)

      SMH I got nothing AG.

    • isonprize

      AG, I’ve been waiting to see you sign on. We’ve got some good folks in PA that are working with good folks there in Arizona. Susan Rzucidlo (The Z is silent, she is not!) is doing good stuff! I’m not campaigning for her (she’s not eve in my home district), I just wanted you to know that we are building cross country connections.

      ~~~~~~
      Susan says:
      I’m happy to report that I was selected as one of the top 10 nominees
      for the MASK Unity Award in Scottsdale Arizona this past week (March 20) . It was a
      fast 40 hour trip but what a great event!
      I am also thrilled to be able to announce that I will be working with
      one the other nominees so she can bring my work to Arizona to improve
      the lives of others in that beautiful state.
      http://www.susanforpa.com/online/about-susan/
      • Aquagranny911
        Great share! Gracias & so good of your Susan Rzucidlo to be thinking of us here in AZ. My best wishes to her for great success in PA.
        • isonprize
          Yeah, she’s got a good shot. She’s got an open primary. She’s just got to beat the Rethug. But she’s in a conservative district, so there’s that. I just don’t understand poor Re-thugs who vote against their own interest.
          • Aquagranny911
            They do it here all the time. One reason Sis & I spend a lot of time in the back areas of Southeast AZ for GOTV is to get the peeps down there to see how much power their votes can have against the old geezer establishment in Maricopa county. It is slow going but we don’t stop.
            One thing I find so encouraging about your Susan is her reaching out to others in another state. This is big in my mind. We need to be united & support each other even if it is only words of encouragement.
