Morning Folks, I can’t believe I’m up early this Sunday Morning. Have a good one. For those who missed it yesterday, Sepia posted this from TOD. Very funny. It deserve to be re-posted again and again.

@TheObamaDiary: Maureen Dowd after President Obama chooses to take the First Lady – & not her – to White House Correspondents Dinner:

    • gn

lol, perfect picture. F- her. PBO has stopped wars and with ObamaCares, has given access to care to some of the sickest and poorest people in the country. If PBO were white, his approvals would be in the 50s at minimum. But even in this racist country, his good works are appreciated by many. Dowd is an attention-seeking nitwit, putting it kindly. /rant off

Today is also Nickolas Ashford Birthday. Happy Birthday Nick!

    • goldenstar

A million years ago, I saw Ashford and Simpson perform in a room of 200. It was and is a beautiful thing.

      • crazycanuck

I wish I was able to see them perform. You are lucky.

  • Another example of “Be careful what you ask for…”

@JamalSimmons: This is the “desirable #slave” segment from last night’s #snl. How did this make it out of the writers room?

    • crazycanuck

Wow, really? Someone needs to tweet them and ask them when they are going to do Holocaust jokes.

      • goldenstar

    • itgurl_29

As I said when the black feminist twitter/tumblr brigade went on their campaign to get a black woman on the show, they had better be careful what they wished for. I knew she’d be nothing more than a coon. And from what I’m reading, not only did she made the slave jokes, but she also made an implicit joke about black women being ugly.

This is the problem I have with the black feminist twitter brigade. As intellectual and pro-black as they claim to be, they are obsessed with whiteness and pop culture to a point that actually sets black women back. It’s a shame they have such a huge voice because for all their degrees, they’re quite shallow. If they’d spent half as much time on the tragedy of the kidnapped girls in Nigeria as they do worshiping Beyonce, whining about white feminists, and trying to claim twerking is a great art form, those girls could be on their way home now.

      • EpiphanySweet

I have a feeling I know EXACTLY which women you are talking about.

        • itgurl_29

I’m reading their timelines and rolling my eyes. Such stupid women.

          • EpiphanySweet

I followed due to some good tweets on certain subjects. I have noticed a lil too much fandom for Bey and some snarkfu regarding those who have not read GOT books. Kinda disappointed.

          • Miranda

They stay on some stupid shit….now watch how they all jump like they’ve been so concernced with the missing black girls in Nigeria as the topic gains momentum and gets the attention it needs.

          • itgurl_29

They were no more informed about that horrible situation than anyone else. You’d think these so called black women activists would have known about this and other atrocities against women in Nigeria before the American media. But when you’re “activism” amounts to being a scholar on Beyonce and “ratchet culture”, I guess you don’t have time for stuff that’s actually, like, killing black women around the world.

Seriously, they are a shallow crew of women.

          • EpiphanySweet

I read somewhere that two of them had a cash scam going on. They solicited money for a project the never came to fruition and did not return the money. I may look for the link, if I find it I will post.

          • itgurl_29

I’m not surprised. None of them seem to have actual jobs. Seriously, they all tweet like 200 times a day. And I’m not talking retweets, I’m talking 200 original tweets. Only people who don’t have a job can do that.

          • EpiphanySweet

I know Mikki recently quit her job and I believe she is in grad school. I am looking for that link about the project now. She has a google footprint I tell ya.

Is this the same black woman they hired in Jan or was this a different performer?

      • itgurl_29

        • Miranda

I see her responding on twitter…I thought this was a different female. This was Leslie Jones in this awful skit. Sasheer Zamata is who they hired back in January.

Three San Jose State students charged with hate crimes

Students referred to their black roommate as “three-fifths,” put bike lock around his neck, wrote racial slurs on surfaces and flaunted the Confederate flag.
By Matt Bradwell | May 3, 2014 at 6:50 PM

SAN JOSE, Calif., May 3 (UPI) — Three white San Jose State students have been expelled after being charged with misdemeanor battery and hate crimes for racist treatment of their only black housemate. A fourth has been put on probation for the remainder of his time at the university.

All four students pled not guilty to the charges, brought about after their roommate’s parents first noticed a Confederate flag in the living room and racial slurs scrawled on the walls. Campus officials were notified and an investigation was held.

Among the findings in the investigation were numerous racially charged incidents directed at the victim, Donald Williams Jr. Among the offenses were nicknaming the victim “three-fifths,” a reference to the nineteenth century legislation that only counted a black votes as three-fifths the value of whites, and an incident where Williams was wrested to the ground while a bike lock was forced around his neck.

Retired judge LaDoris Cordel, who chaired the university task force charged with investigating the incidents, described the defendants expulsion as a “no brainer.”

Of course they charge them with a misdemeanor so they still will be able to get a job. This was terrorism and assault as far as I’m concerned.

Sorry if this is a duplicate….Steve Wynn talked some smack about Clooney

Clooney didn’t take kindly to it:
George Clooney Unloads on Casino Owner Steve Wynn

    Here’s Clooney’s detailed response:

“Steve Wynn and I have met three times, two times for dinner. That is the extent of our knowledge of one another, so I will refrain from trying to categorize him based on the little time we’ve spent together, but I will not let his version of the truth go unchallenged.

“He now says he didn’t call the president an ‘a——.’ That is false. He bellowed ‘I voted for the a——,’ and then called him the same thing several more times as the dinner came to an abrupt end.”

“Again there were eight people at the table, eight witnesses. I did in turn, call him the same body part, and walked out. Again he can make up whatever story he wants, but these are the facts. He said I drank 16 shots of tequila. I didn’t drink one shot of tequila, not one. We were drinking but it was early and we still had two events to attend.”

“He said I live in a bubble. More of a bubble than Las Vegas? Honestly? He says I’m ‘molly coddled,’ that I’m surrounded by people who coddle me. I would suggest that Mr. Wynn look to his left and right and find anyone in his sphere that says anything but ‘yes’ to him. Emphatically. I did not attend a private boys’ school, I worked in tobacco fields and in stock rooms, and construction sites. I’ve been broke more of my life than I have been successful, and I understand the meaning of being an employee and how difficult it is to make ends meet.

“Steve is one of the richest men in the world and he should be congratulated for it, but he needs to take off his red sparkly dinner jacket and roll up his sleeves every once in a while and understand what most of the country is actually dealing with … or at least start with the fact that you can’t make up stories when eight people who are not on your payroll are sitting around you as witnesses.”

Donald Sterling Case Underscores Whiteness of Press

The NBA owner’s brazen comments likely were not revealed sooner because so few journalists of color are represented at media outlets, some black commentators argue.
BY: RICHARD PRINCE Posted: May 4 2014 9:39 AM

Why Wasn’t Owner’s History Given Greater Play Earlier?

The saga of Donald Sterling’s racist remarks, which could cost him ownership of the Los Angeles Clippers, put black commentators in the spotlight in a way rarely seen recently. At least two related the NBA owner’s situation to the low numbers of journalists of color or of reporters covering the “minority affairs” beat.

In one of several television appearances, the New York Times’ William Rhoden said on CNN’s “New Day” on Tuesday:

“Whenever I walk into a press box and I see no black reporters, or when I walk into a newsroom or any corporate office, and I see no black people, essentially the owners are saying the same thing [as Sterling]. They’re just not getting caught. They’re saying ‘we don’t respect you, black people, we’re not gonna hire you.’ One thing I would suggest a lot of the NBA players do, and black NFL players — when you get a chance, walk through your respective team offices and find out how many people that look like you are in the marketing department, in the sales department … You will be stunned. So, let’s not get so carried away by this, what’s kind of like an easy fastball to hit, and really dig down into the systemic racism in your organizations – who, in fact, pay you a lot of money. I think this a great launching pad, but let’s not just stop here at the easy part.”

    – – — –Sanctions stopping Putin’s advance in Ukraine, Engel says
    – – – —Rep. Eliot Engel (D-N.Y.) on Sunday dismissed arguments that sanctions imposed by the U.S. and its allies were not working against Russian president Vladimir Putin.

Engel said the fact that Putin has not further invaded Ukraine was proof that sanctions were affecting his decision-making.

“He has all these troops poised at the border…he hasn’t crossed the border yet,” the ranking member of the Foreign Affairs Committee said Sunday on CNN’s “State of the Union.”

Engel, who recently returned from Ukraine, said Putin knows if Russian forces were to cross into Ukraine, tough sanctions that would bring the Russian economy “to its knees” would follow.

However, Engel said that Putin was “trying everything he can” to disrupt planned May 25 elections in Ukraine.

“It’s very, very important that the elections go smoothly,” he said. “Those elections on May 25 have to happen…it is so important.”

That first pic is spectacular, GLH. We have something here called “Desert Rose” that are places where lightening hits our sand. They are pieces of stone, look just like flowers, usually reddish or pink due to all the iron ores in our soil. Most are small, only a few inches but I found one once as large as a dinner plate when I was a kiddo. I dragged it home & Mama used it for a door stop for years. I don’t know what happened to it. I still have a few of the little ones I found because I do like to collect unusual rocks.

After the rains we kiddos would wander the arroyos to find what the rains washed up after the floods. There were always ‘treasures.’

Check out our Green Lady below she has way better scientific info. When I was a kiddo we would watch for lightening strikes out on the desert & in the arroyos during monsoon. When the rains & flooding stopped, we would go search for ‘treasure.’ That’s when we often found the “Desert Roses.”

The day I found that big one, I was probably only about 6 or 7. My brother wanted to help me carry it because we were probably more than a mile from our casa. I would not let him help me because it was MINE!

I dragged it all the way home by my own self!

She seems to have a vendetta against the president especially after people called her out for that prior nonsense. Like I said up top. But you can’t be surprised when this country is full of imbeciles and losers.

      • crazycanuck

I’m reading the responses, and someone is saying she did NOT say that. Hope that is true. MHP has lost her mind but I hope even she won’t say something like that.

        • I hope it’s not true either. If I find the video, I’ll post it so we can see it for ourselves.

          • Aquagranny911

          • Thank you so much, AG! I really appreciate that!

She’s doing better. She’s very sleepy from the pain meds, but her appetite is good and she’s alert and talkative. She’s also working with a physical therapist to help gain strength in her legs, particularly the leg they removed the mass from.

            How’s your sis doing?

          • Aquagranny911

Good news about your Mom. Sis is hanging in there. She got great laughs today watching the clips of PBO at WHPC dinner last night. Her appetite is not so good. She hates the hospital food & is starting not to eat much. They have her on a strict diet to control cholesterol & for her to lose weight which is important for her health.

I did speak to staff if we could add some spices to her food because it is too bland for her. One person looked at me like I had three heads & told me they must follow all dietary restrictions.

The light at the end of this tunnel is that they may let Sis go home after this week & then she can do out patient therapy.

Keep us posted on your Mom’s progress.

Obamas Met With Lupita Nyong’o Ahead Of Correspondents Dinner

President spoke Swahili to 12 Years A Slave star.
posted on May 4, 2014 at 12:34am EDT

WASHINGTON – The president greeted a star of the Oscar-winning film 12 Years A Slave in her native tongue Saturday ahead of the White House Correspondents Association Dinner Saturday night.

A source familiar with the meeting said the president and Mrs. Obama met with a group of A-listers Saturday ahead of the annual confab featuring journalists, politicians, and celebrities.

Among the group were Robert DeNiro, cast members from the hit ABC sitcomModern Family, and Lupita Nyong’o who won and Oscar for her performance in 12 Years.

The source said President Obama spoke to Nyong’o in Swahili. All the celebrities were guests of media organizations who bought the roughly $2,000 each tables at the annual dinner.

A White House spokesperson did not immediately respond to a request for comment on the meeting.

    • itgurl_29

I love it. Lupita and the President are from the same tribe, the Luo people, in Kenya. Her father is a Senator in Kenya and I wonder if he knew PBO’s father, who was a high ranking economist in the government, being that so much of their politics is tied to what tribe you come from.

    • Aquagranny911

Our Prez said once that one of his regrets was not learning to speak at least one other language fluently. I have read & noticed that in all his travels & interactions with other peoples of the world he makes great effort to speak a few words, correctly pronounced” in their own languages.

Abdul-Jabbar: ‘More Whites Believe In Ghosts’ Than Think Racism Persists

NBA star Kareem Abdul-Jabbar on Sunday said that the release of Los Angeles Clippers owner Donald Sterling’s racist comments points to just how much of an issue racism is today.

“Well, this is a problem. I did a little bit of research, more whites believe in ghosts than believe in racism. That’s why we don’t have — that why we have shows like Ghostbusters and don’t have shows like Racistbuster,” Abdul-Jabbar said on ABC’s “This Week.” “You know, it’s something that’s still part of our culture and people hold on to some of these ideas and practices just out of habit and saying that well that’s the way it always was. But things have to change.”…

    • Well they know it exist but when they get in mixed company they love to play the game of let’s pretend.

  • jziglar

I read the New York Times editorial board piece about the President’s foreign policy, and I read the comments. Even though a majority of people pushed back on the Obama is weak and feckless narrative, it amazes me that so many morons in this country accuse this president of being bland, weak, incompetent, and feckless when it comes to foreign affairs, while lacking knowledge on the subject. The president doesn’t get any respect from this country and if I were him I would tell all of these people to Go to Hell ! I’m sure the Obama’s can’t wait to leave office and I don’t blame them one bit.

    • Sounds about right. No matter what any President does he’s always going to have a chorus telling him or her they stink at their job.

    • Kennymack1971

Consider that much of the criticism comes from people who have been proven wrong time and again. They bought into GWBs cowboy diplomacy and defended that BS to the hilt. I think President Obama smacked that stupidity down when he answered Ed Henry’s pathetic attempt at a gotcha question. Anyone who lived though the Bush Presidency and tries to talk sideways about this President and his foreign policy is never….EVER to be taken seriously.

As I read this PBO’s words were ringing in my ears “the ground has changed beneath them and they don’t know it.” It was no accident that in last night’s WCPC routine, PBO said “Oprah’s Clippers.

Okay, so Sterling wants a fight and it could get nasty. Listen, white America your pound of privilege does not go as far as it used to. The black wealth that’s aligned against Sterling and the NBA if need be (Magic, Oprah, Mayweather) is not equal to a single black mother with a good attorney. You want a fight? Bring. It. On.

I hope Oprah gets the Clippers.

Last Thursday, April 17…I flagged that for our mods to remove. Probably some “key words” from the diary or comments attracted the spammer or it could be random. They get paid for this caca. I read about that.

Did you flag it? I went to your link & did that to alert our mods.
