Articles like this is proof of the media’s selective reporting and outright lying.

Wasn’t it just recently that we were told AAs were the really religious folks that PBO was risking losing (which we know wasn’t true)…and before that Catholics, just to find out only the pedophile-protecting priests were the only ones upset over not being able to control their female parishoners – then there was the Jews he was supposedly losing….NOT…..so now, after all that…he’s REALLY losing the real religious vote…mmkay.

Losing faith in Democrats’ religious outreach

If Obama loses the Flying Spaghetti Monster demographic, he’s doomed, DOOOOMMMEEEDDD, I tell you! (snark)

    • GN

UGH. This is such an utter, utter distraction. PBO’s base remains largely intact, and are not the voters to be worried about. How hot or not the religious right is on this election will make a material difference in places like Colorado and Missouri. Sick of all of these bullshit polls obsessed with the minutae of how groups who are already demonstrably on board with PBO feel about this and that. Enough already. I hope that Dems don’t take the bait (coming from the center, right, AND left wing media) and waste time courting base voters who are already there.

      • gc

I think Obama will continue to rally with his base, because to do otherwise would not be in his nature. It’s not about courting, but about being there for them, being with all the people he is POTUS of. MittRoveny calculates facetime payoffs to a vote. And even for a man with solid esteem, it’s gotta feel good to feel the love.

We lost our retirement savings in the market crash following the jobs report. But all I really care about is keeping this country from the hands of the devil.

        • http://winthemarket.com/the-spontaneous-healing-plan/ woody45

PBO has got the base fired up. I think he’s laying the groundwork for expansion. Possibly a sizable one.

          • gc

            Interesting…to whom?

        • GN

OMG, so sorry to hear that. I personally think that the flighty market will rebound, but easy for a third party to say that. Stay strong (((((((g))))))).

        • nathkatun7

I am so sorry to hear about you loss GC! I am hopping that things will improve for you in the future. The most scary thing about old age is not having enough retirement to survive on. Sometimes the so called rational market acts so irrational for me. While the jobs report was disappointing, the fact of the matter is that jobs were created and not lost.

But then again what do I know about economics.I was a major in economics until my third year in college when I switched to history. I suppose if I had stayed with Econ. I would understand why the markets freaked out, even though there were no job losses. I know this is strange because sometimes stocks of a single company goes up when they cut jobs in order to maximize profits. I admit that capitalism is sometimes such a complicated system for me to understand.

Again, I am deeply sorry about your loses. But knowing all the hardships you’ve been able to overcome, I know you will overcome this one also.

Wonder how and why our hypervigilant media somehow missed the fact that Zimmerman and his family flat out lied about their finances during that bail hearing, and could not POSSIBLY not known about those website donations. Nice that the media had zero to say about the fact that pics hosted on that website were dogwhistling to racists too (this complete scumbag had pics of the defaced black cultural center and the Koran-burning pastor’s rally in support of him). Meanwhile, the media is enhancing videos to show bullshit injuries and smearing a dead child.

If anyone is under any illusions about how much trouble this country is in because of the media, the Trayvon Martin murder and the apologia for his killer needs to be a wakeup call.

The Progressive Change Campaign Committee (PCCC) said it has put another $100,000 into the state’s recall aimed at the governor. Removing Walker has become a top priority for Democrats and the labor movement after he faced off with unions last year when he pushed through legislation that limited public workers’ collective bargaining rights.

The PCCC’s latest installment of funds for the Wisconsin recall brings- its total contribution to $300,000 for the effort,- which has included donations to the Wisconsin Democratic Party as well as spending on television and online ads.

    – -Obama Web ad uses GOP primary opponents to bash ‘Romney economics’- —

    – – – -The latest Web ad from President Obama relies on criticism leveled by Mitt Romney’s primary opponents in an attempt to undermine his economic record.

The commercial opens with a Romney appearance on Fox News, where he declares, “I’m pretty proud of a very conservative record, and that record will stand up to virtually anyone else running in this race.”

Onscreen text then declares that “other Republicans don’t agree,” leading to a montage of prominent Republicans criticizing Romney’s record on job creation as governor of Massachusetts.

Among the Republicans featured: Newt Gingrich, Rick Perry, Rick Santorum, Jon Huntsman and, from the 2008 GOP primary, Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.).

    – –The ad primarily focuses on claims that Massachusetts ranked 47th in the country in job creation during Romney’s tenure, but also includes candidates hammering Romney over increases in taxes.

“Mitt Romney claims his business experience will grow our economy, the same claim he made when he ran for governor of Massachusetts. But Romney Economics actually plummeted Massachusetts to 47th out of 50 states in job creation, increased debt and expanded government for the people of Massachusetts. Don’t take our word for it — just ask his fellow Republicans,” the Obama campaign said in a statement.

I loved this! The country needs to see more of this. Remember how in lightening speed, just a day after his dumb remarks, Romney’s campaign used Cory Booker to attack the President. I think the Obama campaign should use Willard’s GOP opponents over and over again. I wish they would also include a clip of Gingrich calling him a liar.

Please OFA, do this over and over again. Take the gloves off! Don’t listen to Bill Clinton. If he were the one running he would not hesitate to use this. We know that based on the way he was acting when his wife was running, Clinton would not be talking all this BS about being nice to your opponent. Bill was certainly not nice to candidate Obama. But we understood because that’s how politics is played. That is why I strongly believe that OFA must hit Romney, over and over again, using statements by his GOP rivals. If the media and Romney’s campaign are going to use Cory Booker and Bill Clinton, there is absolutely no reason why the Obama campaign can’t use statements by Jon Huntsman, Rick Perry, Rick Santorum, Newt Gingrich, Michelle Bachmann, and John McCain that exposed the lies Willard “Mitt” Romney is fond of telling. Absolutely no reason at all!

    – —–Obama’s Influence on the Black Community - —

    — – – -This is interesting:

A new Public Policy Polling poll finds that African-American voters in Missouri have shifted drastically on the question of same-sex marriage since they were last polled in January. They now support marriage equality 50-31, whereas before opposition was much stronger at 25-44, a 38 point shift. Missouri follows polls in Pennsylvania, Maryland, and nationally that all show African-American voters embracing marriage equality in the wake of President Obama’s endorsement.

    – – – – -SKIP- – —

    – – It now appears that Obama has won some rather fierce loyalty. For him to be able to move public opinion in the black community so significantly on a moral question like gay marriage is very impressive. My guess is that he did change a lot of minds. But I think there’s a large segment of the black community who aren’t going to answer a poll question in a way that they feel will be unhelpful to the president. In other words, they didn’t change their mind about gay marriage; they suddenly started viewing the issue as a political question rather than a moral one.

One thing I think is going underreported is how black folks are experiencing the attacks on the president.

There you go, Sepia, the money quote:

Or maybe Black folks are not the homophobic monsters the media has tried to portray us as being.

        • GN

But isn’t it rather sleazy that instead of admitting as much, they’re now claiming that black opinion completely shifted due to PBO. That’s flat-out bullshit, when comparing the pre- and post-announcement national polling. This is simply not an issue which evokes passionate condemnation from the majority of black people–the passionate anti-SSM voters are on the religious right, and they’re largely white.

      • gc

If I were Black, I would not deign to answer honestly (or politely for that matter) to pollsters who are just another piece of The Ugly Puzzle of our oppo. Let them sort it out when the results of the voting come in, and there is no consistency.

The vilest homophobic comment I heard was made by an EX-friend who told me she could not eat at restaurants with Gay waiters, because the sight of them made her lose her appetite. She was lily-white. Another comment was made by a neighbor “I don’t want my son near those Gay Rights people, lest his friends think HE is gay.” I believe this woman has moved to the center, as she has a lesbian couple babysit for her kids. She was Catholic. I was appalled, and so I lied. “How funny, C, my son is a MEMBER of the Gay Rights group.” He wasn’t actually, but is having a gay JP for his wedding. He’s MY son :) Third incident – also ended a friendship. Woman I worked with told me Dems are baby murderers because of pro-choice. She is Roman Catholic. I get some snark about White people from AA friends (which I agree with and I figure implies a level of trust) but not about social issues.

        • GN

Exactly; there are homophobes of every color, and the strongest correlation is level and type of faith, rather than race. I honestly believe that this framing is not only divisive, but it’s an excuse to express contempt for black people as well as try to subject this POTUS to special obligations and responsibilities never demanded of a white POTUS. PBO is a man of courage and leadership, and I’m glad that he very gently asked people to support GLBT marriage, but I can’t get with a lot of these media people on television and blogs and the way that they obsess over black people specifically, trying to malign and/or shame.

            Well said GLH!

        • nathkatun7

You know gc, this campaign to blame only Black people for being homophobic is quite puzzling to me. I know of many prominent Black people in history who were gay and who are still highly honored and respected in the AA community, Does that mean that some deeply religious AA don’t have issues with gay marriage? No. But what it means is that, despite some of their religious doubts about gay marriage, the AA community is more tolerant of gays than most other ethnically identifiable communities.

Somehow, this gay vs. black issue seems to be manufactured to create division in the Democratic party. Does any one remember people going after Black people for being anti-gay during the Clinton presidency? Why all of sudden is this an issue? It really doesn’t take a genius to realize that this is all about the fact that a Black guy is President and thus he should be held accountable to every act of every single black person in America. Somebody please tell me that I am wrong, and that Bill Clinton was held to account for all the racist activities of all his fellow white Baptists, not just in America, but at least those in Arkansas who voted for him four times as governor.

          • Miranda

Why all of sudden is this an issue?
            ___________________

            You know why!

          • nathkatun7

I do indeed, Miranda because I know something about history. If the so called white progressives completely abandon President Obama, just as the so called progressives abandoned Blacks during Reconstruction, then we may be in for another ugly period in the politics of this country.

      • GN

It’s such a bullshit conclusion in the first place. Notice how they chose to present a micropoll of Missouri, because the national polling has never fit their racist insistence that black people need to be singled out.

    • GN

I find the narrative in this story extremely dishonest actually. How amazing that they cherrypicked until finding some obscure Missouri poll to drive a larger narrative about black people in general.

While saying absolutely NOTHING about national Pew polling which has shown that consistently for years, the difference between black and white people re: GLBT rights has been minute, miniscule (between 5 to 10 points), and hardly worth the racist freak-outs frequently emitting from the bowels of liberals who genuinely believe that black people should be held to a double standard, or that PBO has some special responsibility that white presidents somehow weren’t subject to.

If any of these people in the so-called professional left were willing to embrace intellectual honesty, they’d admit that even SSM opponents in the black community are demonstrably LEAST likely to empower regressives over this issue. I’m done with the entire black people and homophobia frame, and view it with the derision that this type of racism deserves. Tired of this obsession with black people and constant inclination to obsess about what we think of interracial marriages, gay marriages, etc. Treat us like everyone else or leave us the hell alone. When’s the last time anyone read anything of this type re: the Asian community? Irish community? Italians?

      • nathkatun7

“Treat us like everyone else or leave us the hell alone. When’s the last time anyone read anything of this type re: the Asian community? Irish community? Italians?”

Thank you so much GN for this gem of a comment. By the way the same people who are so obsessed about Black people are totally silent about Gay groups who remain fiercely supportive of the Republican party despite the party’s stance on gay rights and racism.

        • GN

It’s crazy–to be clear, I’m not trying to shade booman, who is and always has been simply terrific, but to question the media’s obsession and fixation in this regard. I remember a Glenn Greenwald troll asking us at wsy to provide evidence of the fixation upon black people: the response was to google “prop 8″ and “black voters” and compare the millions upon millions of pages of more references than associated with “prop 8″ and “mormon.” This is racism; that black people have been singled out, attacked, and maligned for years and years and years is completely racist.

Unions get out their ground game for Obama

(CBS News) WASHINGTON – Unions are campaigning hard to re-elect President Obama. That means raising and spending plenty of campaign cash. But it also means getting out their ground game.

During his 2008 campaign, Barack Obama raised $745 million — shattering records and outspending rival John McCain nearly 2 to 1.

In 2012, however, he’s being outspent — not by Mitt Romney, but by outside groups, including super PACs.

Conservative super PACs have already spent more than $97 million this year, funded heavily by wealthy individual donors. Liberal groups have spent just under $13 million.

‘War on women’ comes to the Wisconsin recall

Edna Kunkel calls herself an “accidental activist.” A writer of technical and scientific manuals from Verona, Wis., she came of age at the height of the women’s movement, and she never expected to take to the streets in defense of those causes more than 30 years later.

In large part, Ms. Kunkel became a women’s rights activist in her 50s because of Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker. On one April day alone, the Republican signed a slew of laws on subjects ranging from education to abortion that many activists say amount to a “war on women.”

“Who is making this stuff up? Why is this happening now?” she recalls thinking.

Morning TOD. If you do anything today, you have got to watch Stephanie Cutter’s appearance on This Week on ABC. OMG. OMG!!!! She eviscerated Romney’s spokesperson Eric Ferhnstrom. When I say eviscerated, I mean EVISCERATED. She made him look like a fool. She and Paul Krugman – Krugman was sometimes blah but I do have to give him credit on some fantastic points he made about PBO and pointing out Romney’s lies – used FACTS to decimate Romney and Fehrnstrom. Holy smokes. She pointed out the ridiculousness of Romney supporting the Ryan budget while at the same time touting fiscal responsibility. Krugman pointed out that economically, Ryan’s budget would sink the country and plunge us into an even steeper recession. Cutter lambasted Romney for giving Pres. Obama an “F” on foreign policy. While she was talking about Romney’s foreign policy “expertise” she cracked up because his so called expertise is just laughable. She pointed out that PBO ended the war in Iraq responsibly, got OBL, is on track to end the war in Afghanistan, helped to liberate Libya without one American soldier dying etc. She pointed out the ridiculousness of Romney saying Russia is our number one geopolitical foe.

Fehrnstrom tried to justify MA going from 37th to 47th in job creation under Romney as a good thing. Cutter shut him up by pointing out that under PBO we’ve had 27 months of job creation, 4.3 M jobs have been created, under 40 months of Romney, MA gained a paltry 4000 jobs, but under 19 months of Pres. Obama, MA gained over 21K jobs. She also pointed out the frustrating GOP obstruction regarding the American Jobs Act which independent analysts have said would help create and additional 1 million jobs. Fehrnstrom tried to make Solyndra an issue and once again Cutter and Krugman pointed out that the funds for Solyndra came from the Bush Admin. and was supported by the likes of Mitch McConnell and other republicans, so if he wanted to spread blame, then the GOP deserves a lion share of the blame. Cutter also pointed out how detrimental Romney would be for women. He wants to eliminate Planned Parenthood, he supports overturning Roe v. Wade, He wants to defund organizations that provide healthcare to women.

If Fehrnstrom is the best Romney can do, then hahahahahahahahahahahaha. He was pathetic. Just pathetic. Stephanie Cutter was on fire! She was a one woman juggernaut of facts. She did not take any crap from Fehrnstrom and George Will.

Kasim Reed, Mayor of Atlanta was also AMAZING on Meet The Press. He lambasted Romney’s cowardice in not standing up to Trump, Limbaugh, and Nugent. He eviscerated Romney’s record at Bain and as Gov. of MA, he said Romney was GWB 2.0 and America cannot and must not accept that disastrous course again. Over and over again he touted PBO’s record of accomplishments. It was breathtakingly wonderful. As a political junkie, this was good TV. It was brilliant.

Utaustinliberal is a fantastic young person who is both a passionate supporter of President Obama and a gifted writer. She is so good at reporting and summarizing what took place in the MSM. She definitely puts to shame people who go around underestimating the wisdom of young people. Everything I’ve read from her reveals that she is a first rate intellect with, as they say, lots of wisdom beyond her age. Her Report to day covered people who unequivocally stood up for President Obama. People like Atlanta Mayor, Kasim Reed and OFA spokesperson, Stephanie Cutter.

      I deeply respect Utaustinliberal.

    Matt Stoller is nuts.

    ” Apr 26, 2012 by Current

Cenk Uygur, host of Current TV’s “The Young Turks,” asks Matt Stoller, a fellow at the Roosevelt Institute, why the Obama administration hasn’t done more to challenge Wall Street and the big banks, and what Stoller thinks Mitt Romney would do if he were elected. Stoller answers that because Mitt Romney changes his positions so often, he might be easier to convince than Obama. “Barack Obama is a neo-liberal ideologue,” Stoller says.”

Please note what Stoller said. This isn’t rational–it’s insane.

(I wish I could find a link, but this was from another site. I honestly do not think I could watch it anyway, because I’ve just eaten, and I’m not about to loose my lunch.)

    • Miranda

That’s how a good emoprog thinks.

    • nathkatun7

Scopedog, you know and I know what Matt Stoller actually wanted to say about President Obama and Mitt Romney. Calling the President (well he even doesn’t dignify him with the title of President and neither does Cenk Uygur) “a neo-liberal ideologue” is an euphemism for the “uppity n……” While saying that Mitt Romney might be easy to convince suggests that Stoller wanted to say that Mitt Romney was “One of us.” Just my reading on coded messages based on my 40 years experience of trying to decode white privileged speech.

Romney Claimed Now-Bankrupt Solar Company Would ‘Become A Major Economic Springboard’ In 2003 Speech

Senior Romney campaign adviser Ed Gillespie appeared on Fox News Sunday this morning and tried to deflect criticism from then-Governor Mitt Romney’s decision to direct $9 million in state funding to clean energy companies around the state, including the now-defunct Konarka Technologies.

The campaign finds itself on the defensive after Konarka, a Romney-backed solar company, went belly up just a day after the governor sought to exploit the Obama administration’s loan to renewable energy company Solyndra. Konarka has filed for bankruptcy and is ceasing operations, laying off its staff of 85 and liquidating all of its assets.

Having a conversation with my next door neighbor (whose white). We are both military spouses and she has a husband and brother deployed right now. We were taking about the conflicts. We started talking about the damage that had been done with the Quran burnings and the despicable pictures and how they really put our troops in danger…especially in Afghanistan where there have been numerous incidents in which Afghan troops have turned their guys on US troops.

I told her it is despicable that some would criticize the President for apologizing in the aftermath of these incidents, since his main purpose of addressing those things IS to save troop lives. If someone burned a Bible, the religious right in this country would go ballistic. She says these Republican Congressman have the nerve to get on TV everyday and talk about America is so great and then be so divisive in the same breath. And she was like don’t get her started on all this military might they always to put forth for everything.

Anyways, she also told me she watches the news everyday with her oldest daughter (who is 9) to keep her aware of daddy’s job and the other things impacting our lives. While watching news coverage of Mitt Romney, her daughter started to cry, saying “Mommy, I hope he does not become President, because I just do not like him. I hope President Obama wins, he’s the best.”

Chicago clipped this one FOR SURE! I can not believe he said this, lol. This will dovetail nicely with the House Democrats plan to make Republicans own the Ryan budget, lol.

Eric Fehrnstrom, a top campaign adviser for Mitt Romney, tied the Republican presidential nominee to the GOP’s budget plan by Rep. Paul Ryan (R-WI).

Fehrnstrom’s exchange with George Will Sunday on ABC’s “This Week”:

WILL: Where does the governor stand, Governor Romney, on the Ryan plan? Does he endorse it?

FEHRNSTROM: Oh, he’s for – he’s for – he’s for the Ryan plan. He believes it goes in the right direction. The governor has also put forward a plan to reduce spending by $500 billion by the year 2016. In fact, he’s put details on the table about how exactly he would achieve that. So to say he doesn’t have a plan to – a plan to restrain government spending is just not true.

    http://livewire.talkingpointsmemo.com/entries/romney-is-for-ryan-plan-top-adviser-says

This is why the MSM has to go all in for Romney; son of a bitch can’t get off the ground unless everyone grabs a hand and heaves him up. And damned if the MSM isn’t giddy over the unemployment news; it gives them the chance to go for the jugular with POTUS and discount ALL attacks on Romney as distracting the public from the truth. But reading about how team Obama pushed back today shows they know the game and are ready.

Defense team says Trayvon Martin shooter George Zimmerman in police custody in Fla.
    Associated Press
    Sunday, Jun 3, 2012

MIAMI — George Zimmerman, the neighborhood watch volunteer charged with murder in the killing of Trayvon Martin, surrendered to police Sunday and was booked into jail after having his bail revoked two days earlier.

Zimmerman’s legal team said in a tweet that he was in police custody. Zimmerman’s bail was revoked because the judge said he and his wife lied to the court about their finances so he could obtain a lower bond.

On Sunday afternoon, about 40 minutes before the 2:30 p.m. deadline to surrender, Zimmerman was listed as an inmate on the jail website. He was listed as being held without bail and having $500 in his jail account.

Thanks for the Sounds of Train on this late Sunday evening/night in my neck of the woods.I consider John Coltrane one of the musical geniuses! I am so deeply appreciative that this blog takes time to honor African Americans who have enriched not only the African American community but also the entire world. Most of the time I don’t comment, but I come here often to learn and be enriched by posts that go beyond our current political environment. As an avid history buff, I’ve learned so much coming to this place. So, a very heartfelt thanks to the founders, the writers and every one who comments here.

I have this Art poster in my office which quotes a Cameroonian Proverb: “Knowledge Is Better Than Riches.” I thank all the members of the staff at POU for always bringing and sharing with us knowledge. I hope you all had a wonderful Sunday.
