Sunday Open Thread: Post-Disco Brunch

It’s Sunday POU! I hope everyone’s weekend is going great. Sit back and enjoy post-disco music.

Post-disco (sometimes called club music or dance)  refers to a disco music movement characterized by the heavy use of keyboard instruments, and more specifically, to a historically significant period in popular music history beginning with the backlash against disco music in the United States in the late 1970s and ending with the mainstream appearance of house music in late 1980s.

The stripped-down musical trends followed from the DJ- and producer-driven, increasingly electronic and experimental side of disco, and were typified by the styles of dance-pop, boogie,  Italo disco and the early alternative dance.

Techno and house music are both rooted in post-disco.

Morning everybody! My politics free wknd continues. Planning to waste the day away reading some books, but…

Ugh i know I’ve said i was too through with this mess but i read this on twitter and just has to laugh. Its all nothing but a bs game. Cries of Obama should ask Congress and as usual this:

“@meetthepress: Fmr. Rep. Jane Harman on reluctance for #Syria action in Congress: “They want it to pass, they just don’t want to vote for it.” #MTP”

And yet the Obama admin is the one being pegged as disingenuous,

    - -White House Chief of Staff Denis McDonough is appearing on all five Sunday shows as the Obama administration ramps up its media blitz to try to sway public opinion on Syria.

McDonough made his pitch to Congress and the public that strikes are necessary for U.S. national security interests and would remain limited in scope.

He argued that the White House is making progress with Congress because the intelligence is no longer in doubt, while acknowledging the votes aren’t currently there for a strike.

“I think it’s too early to come to any conclusion,” McDonough said on “Fox News Sunday” of congressional support. “Not a person is rebutting or refuting the intelligence — that is to say we know

Hola, dear Lady. Gracias for your explanation of your adventures with GPS & how it got its name. I despise GPS. My one experience with it was when my SIL & I were scouting re-hab hospitals for Daughter. It was the cell phone kind you have to talk to & it couldn’t understand either one of us in English or Spanish.

My mild mannered, so sweet SIL was swearing in three languages before we turned it off & found our own way. We were under a lot of stress at the time.

    Mornin’ Errbody!

    *sigh* Dems suck as teammates.

…Four years ago, the RNC spent $3.45 million in New Jersey, according to reports filed with the state Election Law Enforcement Commission. The group isn’t saying how much money it will devote to the Garden State this time around, but every dollar the RNC spends is a dollar Christie can save to pour into pricey TV ads.

By contrast, the Democratic National Committee has had little presence in New Jersey and didn’t file a report with ELEC four years ago. Democrats say they don’t need as much help because the party has the home-field advantage in a blue state where registered voters in
their party outnumber Republicans by 700,000.

…”When it comes to (Get Out the Vote), Democrats are light years ahead of Republicans and they simply do not have the time to catch up,” said Buono spokesman David Turner. “More importantly, no amount of investment by the RNC will make up for Governor Christie’s failed economic record that has left 400,000 people still looking for work and property taxes going up by 20 percent.”

Though Democrats control the state Legislature, the state party’s
fundraising ability waned without control of the governorship Former Gov. Jon Corzine tapped his personal wealth to finance his last race, but the Democratic Governors Association still spent $3.3 million on his behalf, vaulting his total past $30 million. So far this year the DGA reported giving just $3,800 in research to Buono. DGA spokesman Danny Kanner declined to say if the group would spend more on her behalf.

    —————————————————————————–

Hurricane Sandy wiped out (no pun intended) any “home-field advantage” Dem have in NJ because people are (blindly) praising how Gov. Christie handled the storm. What the Dems should’ve done is focus on how Christie awarded no-bid contracts to AshBritt (which Haley Barbour’s lobbying firm represents) against FEMA’s warnings, and how it will cost some townships federal relief money: http://www.nj.com/politics/index.ssf/2013/09/with_sandy_debris_all_but_gone_scrutiny_begins.html#incart_river_default

    • Aquagranny911

The Democratic National Committee can suck the cactus! I won’t give them a peso. My $$ goes directly to Dem candidates.

      • goldenstar

I don’t think the DNC works on non-federal races. The state party organizations control the apparatus for state races. The DGA would be another source of assistance but not the DNC.

        • Aquagranny911

Thanks for the clarification. All I know is we begged for some help with our Senate race & got nada. We didn’t have the $$ to fight back against the constant media smears at the end.

          • goldenstar

Ah, the DSCC controls a pot of $ for Senate races. Sometimes there’s a lot of personal stuff that get in the way of support for candidates in Congressional races. I got to see Rahm Emanuel work his personal agenda and deny support in the Congressional district where he grew up. Not a good look.

          • Aquagranny911

I think they wrote us off because we are a red state even though Carmona was solid & we had strong volunteer support on the ground.

They left us hanging at the end when we really could have used some media push back.

Poverty in N.J. reaches 52-year high, new report shows
    By Brent Johnson/The Star-Ledger

TRENTON — Poverty in New Jersey continued to grow even as the national recession lifted, reaching a 52-year high in 2011, according to a report released today.

The annual survey by Legal Services of New Jersey found 24.7 percent of the state’s population — 2.1 million residents — was considered poor in 2011. That’s a jump of more than 80,000 people — nearly 1 percent higher than the previous year and 3.8 percent more than pre-recession levels.

…Experts say a combination of factors contributed to the spike in
poverty, including the persistence of high unemployment. New Jersey’s
unemployment rate dipped slightly in July to 8.6 percent but that’s higher than the national rate of 7.3 and nearly double the state’s rate of 4.6 at the start of the recession.

    LEFT @LeftSentThis 21h
This is a direct quote from George Zimmerman’s wife, “What the jury never heard could have led to a different verdict.”

    Shonda Rhymes @drgoddess 17m
I watched Shellie #Zimmerman’s interview on @abcnews last night. She had left the house in anger at GZ 2 days before he killed #Trayvon.

    Shonda Rhymes @drgoddess 18m
Shellie #Zimmerman also said “he has a temper,” now thinks he’s invincible and is “all about George.” Um, yeah, Shellie… #Trayvon

    • Town

I doubt it. That jury was out to acquit Zimmerman. They didn’t even listen to the evidence. B37 wanted to know why Trayvon was out so late at night (7:15pm). They had it in their minds that Trayvon was the blackest thuggiest thug that ever thugged and he was coming to kill white people and their good buddy George was just trying to save them. They wanted it over with so they could get back to manicures & book deals.

      • crazycanuck

yup agreed, that jury was bought and paid for.

        • Aquagranny911

…along with law enforcement, lawyers & the judge…I’m thinking now. I watched every moment of that heart breaking, sick making trial. It will go down in recent history as a sham trial & one of the worst travesties of justice, imo.

          • JB20005

Trayvon Martin was on trial for his own murder from the very start. And he was found guilty.

            Justice, Florida style.

I also emailed this to our Fam members who are still on active duty for their feed back. I will share here, when or if I get any. My Hubby has been retired out since ’84 & I don’t remember any of this when he was active.

    • Alma98

This has been happening for sometime AG. It’s the nutty religious right, we met a few when my hubby was in service. We let them know upfront to back off because they can be bullies. I notice it started in the late 80′s more and more religious groups were given access to the base. They would solicit families to join their church or send our kids to their programs. Like I said we had to tell them to leave us alone. They were creepy.

      • Aquagranny911

Gracias for the feed back, Alma. Hubby had a couple of guys in his command that were very religious personally but were never obnoxious to others.

I have been hearing more and more on this issue & it is disturbing.

        • Alma98

I had one tell me that I shouldn’t be wearing pants because I’m not the man of the house. I told him I’ll wear whatever the hell I want and for him leave. These people are pushy and self righteous.

          • pamelabrown53

Alma and Aquagranny, have either of you seen the documentary “Jesus Camp”? Creepy doesn’t cover it. Anyway, it’s little wonder that they infiltrate the military when they take “Onward Christian Soldier”, LITERALLY.

          • Alma98

Yes I saw it and found it creepy too. A lot of them are the biggest hypocrites. And they really go after children. They kept trying to get us to send our kids to their camps and schools.

      • Alma98

Hey AG! It’s very overcast here but only a 10% chance of rain lol.

heehee, sunny here. If it was winter I`would say it`s probably freezing outside. Alma my computer is just old.

          • Aquagranny911

We recently had to replace Hubby’s 8 year old Dell. His problems started with the keyboard acting funny & then he started having language issues when the computer defaulted to German & French when he was doing his papers (Hubby is retired from working but still doing some research…scientists never really retire) even when he didn’t want that.

Then it kind of puffed out some smoke & sparks & fried its little circuits which was scary. We bit the cactus & bought a new computer.

      • pamelabrown53

MsKitty, care to share your crock pot chili recipe? My secret is substituting V-8 for tomato juice.

        • Aquagranny911

I use V-8 tomato juice as stock for a lot of soups etc. It has more flavor & the Spicy version is real good in some Mexican recipes.

          • pamelabrown53

Absolutely, Aquagranny. I use my leftover roasted chicken, spicy V-8 and lowfat, low sodium chicken broth as a base for my southwesternchicken soup. I lived too long in El Paso to have not picked up a few tips on authenticity=delicioso.

          • Aquagranny911

I’m going to make some chicken soup today with fresh chicken breast. I actually got the base recipe from old Martha Stewart but I changed it & spiced it up a bit more.

I’m using spicy V-8 & chickenbroth for base, adding chopped scallions, garlic, poblanos from my garden, some roasted Hatch chilies, grated fresh ginger, pepper flakes, & the juice of a fresh lime. You can add rice to this, as well but most times I don’t bother.

I think I might also make some fresh bread to go with. It will make Hubby muy happy!

          • pamelabrown53

            LMAO! Do you bring presents?

          • pamelabrown53

Always bring a hostess gift. But more importantly, I bring love, thanks and appreciation for a shared meal amongst friends and family.

          • Aquagranny911

That’s the very best gift of all!

        • MsKitty

Actually I’m trying out a new recipe that I got from a food blog:

Crock Pot Chicken Taco Chili – http://www.thecomfortofcooking.com/2012/02/crock-pot-chicken-taco-chili.html#more

This much I can say, it won’t be ready for another couple of hours but it smells so good I want to eat it now.

          • Aquagranny911

That looks so good. The only thing I would leave out is the frozen corn. I would use nixtamal instead. It’s a canned Mexican hominy but that is only because I do not like fresh, frozen or canned corn in my Mexican dishes.

Otherwise I am saving this recipe!

PBomb. My entry for “Post-Disco” Genius of Love by Tom Tom Club

  • GreenLadyHere

    PBOMB♥ —–FROM REP Elijah- — -

—–Rep. Cummings: House preparing ‘more limited’ Syria resolution- – —

    - —–The House is working on a “much more limited” resolution to authorize military force in Syria than the Senate’s plan, Rep. Elijah Cummings (D-Md.) said Sunday.

Cummings said that he might be inclined to support a more limited resolution than the one that passed the Senate Foreign Relations Committee last week.

“There are members of the House that are working on a much
more limited resolution than the one that is being considered in the Senate,” Cummings said on CBS’s “Face the Nation” on Sunday. “I’m going to take a look at that.”

He did not elaborate one what would have to change from the Senate’s resolution to win his support. The Senate’s resolution authorized up to 90 days of military action and prohibited U.S. combat troops on the ground in Syria.

Cummings said that he had reservations about taking military action, but it was still “possible” President Obama could convince him to vote “yes.”
THERE IS MORE- ——PRAYIN’ 4 this situation. :>)–

Are y’all still loving it? Progressive, conservative or whatever they call themselves are just bullshitters. Rule we got from them: That’s right every country has a right to poison and use chemical weapons on it citizens…so here is my final words…

    A. Dude bro shut the fuck up about drones or NSA. Just shut te fuck up about privacy. You have no ethical or moral leg to stand on.

    B. McCain shut your old ass up! You wanted all out war with Syria! Shut the fuck up…

    C. GOP: please try impeach mofos… Do it with your progressives who ain’t accomplish shit… I wish a mofo would…

    D. Grayson: turn yourself into a psyche unit immediately, take GG with you

    E. POC: they don’t give a fuck about you. You are only a useful tool for their new obsessions.
    F. Fuck you russia today. Unfortunately most our citizens believe propaganda since hats what our own media does.
Amazing after all this President has done…what an ungrateful country. We deserve an Alec takeover, we deserve the Bushes and Clinton’s. Piece of shit congress, half a brain governors, corrupt and corporate media. I am pissed. What a disappointment. We can’t even have fucking mature onversations about chemical weapons!

      1. The same people who are all like “mind yo’ business” when it comes to Syria were all gung ho to charge into Iraq.

      2. John “Bomb bomb bomb bomb bomb Iran” McCain needs to sit down in the rocking chair.

      3. The CBC rubber stamped Clinton & Bush attacking other countries willy nilly.

      4. If, say, Zimbabwe, Sudan or Somalia starts slaughtering black citizens, I don’t want to hear any of the CBC begging Obama (or any future president) to run in and help them. If Syria is on it’s own, then African countries should be on their own as well. And the CBC should like & fully endorse ignoring and and all African atrocities, since Clinton ignored Rwanda and they still stan for him.

      • Aquagranny911

African countries have always known that they “are on their own” unless they have any resources that are wanted & can be exploited!

I don’t even want to get started on this subject here lest I blow all of Disqus remaining caca circuits!!!

        Truth

    • jds09

What’s fascinating to me is how PBO handles this bullshit. They (your excellent list aleth) are throwing everything at him, everything including the kitchen sink and PBO keeps it moving. I don’t think they truly accept that he does not give a shit. FLOTUS has said on many different occasions that he considers this type of behavior noise. I believe PBO doesn’t give a fuck about impeachment either, he’s guided by on the ground realities and his conscious. He is truly a leader.

      • Aquagranny911

“He is truly a leader.” When have we ever seen that? Not before in my lifetime, anyway. I really trust President Obama & I have never said that about any other President.

    • Aquagranny911

      Righteous rant!!!

    • JB20005

I mentioned on Balloon-Juice that the only middle east war that John Cole supported was the one where the WMD were fake.

      • jds09

Now you’re just toying with them JB20005. LOL

    • MsKitty

I’m still processing it all, but this I can say with clarity: If you’re against intervention, fine. But whatever comes out of it, good, bad or indifferent, take full ownership of it all. No oh, this is horrible hand wringing, no pooh-poohing over more lives being lost, no President Obama should have stopped this, it’s all his fault. Own every single bit of it.
