ABC News has learned that the Romney camp is reaching out to several of Romney’s old HS friends to ask them to offer “supporting remarks”

Black people are not a monopoly and No one owns them. Slavery is over. This goes for the left and right. We act in our best interest as its deemed individually.

Collectively we vote democratic because it is more alligned with our view point and least likely to reinstate Jim Crow. Let’s be frank.

It interesting that 52% of whites oppose same sex marriage, likewise 49% of latinos, yet the finger pointing is in our community. It appears we are invisible unless we are needed. It’s also interesting that our struggle are great for certain folks to push their own rights but not to feel sorry for Trayvon Martins.

The call for equality should go to all PEOPLE’s and not one targeted group. Majority of people that look like BWD, Dan Savage, Andrew Sullivan vote against same sex marriage.. Where is the outrage?

This issue provides insight into the way excuses are created by a vast majority of left for poor whites constantly voting against their interest. It is amazing that it seems accepted that folks who are not black are allowed and expected to discriminatory. It is an accepted fact that can be excused and rationalized. It is the same excuse used for poor folks in kentucky etc.

I don’t mind black folk being the moral compass but hold everyone accountable. Do not label anyone.

      • conlakappa

I have. Not in the predominating numbers as the MSM would have us believe. My huge family, including my 100-year-old grandmother, is not but my husband’s extended family is. Most are from NC but the ones with whom I got into a bitter argument are from this area [D.C.]. I’ll know how much traction any of this has if they’re talking about it at the family reunion, which is in July. The only other black homophobes I’ve known are friends of my mother. Again, we got into it but at least I had her there with me. I was shaken by the experience and haven’t wanted anything to do with them since then.

        • Aquagranny911

I hear you! It’s an emotional issue with some Latinos, more among the older men than the women. Younger people are usually more accepting.

          • conlakappa

And even older folks always knew that… cousin or whatever. A Miami Cuban friend and I have talked about it for years–her godfather is gay and has been with his partner forever. I cannot remember not knowing anyone LGBT. They were just there.

If there was ever proof that this is hardly a post-racial environment, this is it. The first black PBO, known for moderation, incrementalism, and prioritizing results over media splashes, just took on a big political risk, pre-election, to advocate for same sex marriage in a country which is split down the middle on this issue. Black people, who have told ourselves that he can’t serve as civil rights commander in chief when it comes to splashy black issues, are hardly expected to abandon him despite the fact that the black community is the same as the country, i.e. split down the middle between people like me who favor GLBT marriage versus people who do not. The voters who ARE expected to react punitively are Republican values voters who have previous to this, been less enthused about Romney. And yet the story is about black homophobia. Seriously, why bother.

PBO has DONE more for gay rights than ALL PREVIOUS PRESIDENTS COMBINED, but it was not good enough for some on the Left until he SAID he was for gay marriage. Many of them on DKos fucking admitted that they were looking for affirmation from PBO, like he was their damn father or something.

Man, fuck that. I’m sure Dr. King didn’t give a damn about getting affirmation from Kennedy or Johnson.

.President Obama, Michelle Obama Receive Highest Award In Homeless Veteran Advocacy

For their determination to put an end to veterans living on the streets, President Barack Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama will receive the highest honor given to homeless advocates.

The Obamas were chosen to get this year’s Jerald Washington Memorial Founders’ Award, according to the National Coalition for Homeless Veterans (NCHV), and Barack Obama is the first person — in history — to receive the award more than once.

Barack Obama is tackling the issue with his “Opening Doors: Federal Strategic Plan to Prevent and End Homelessness,” an initiative that aims to end chronic and veteran homelessness by 2015. He’s working to meet this goal by mainstreaming housing, health, education and human service programs.

On any given night last January, 67,495 homeless veterans were sleeping on the streets, a 56 percent decline since the president took office, according to the Annual Homelessness Assessment Report to Congress.

“Under the leadership of President Obama, we are witnessing unprecedented national unity in the campaign to end and prevent veteran homelessness,” Patrick Ryan, Chairman of the NCHV Board of Directors, said in a press release. “The progress we have seen from the federal agencies, the Congress, the community partners NCHV represents, and the American people in just the last three years give rise to the expectation that this campaign will succeed.”

Michelle Obama has been doing her part to address the range of issues veteran face, including homelessness, with the one-year-old initiative, Joining Forces, which she founded with Jill Biden.

    • Aquagranny911

Someone we know was going to pay to have a wheel chair ramp put in so she could provide access to a small apartment she has for a wounded vet.

When the guy who was to do the work found out what it was for, he got someone to donate the lumber & he did the work for free. Now, this once homeless vet has a home.

This is community in action & it is inspired by the work that Obama’s & Bidens are doing for our vets.

BREAKING: CC is now leaving her couch lol

    • Alma98

LOL! CC I wanted to ask about a show on HGTV that’s from Canada called Love It or List It. Because to me it seems fake and rehearsed.

      • Aquagranny911

Most of HGTV’s stuff is fake, imo. Hubby and I get laughs from House Hunters when people reject a house because they don’t like the wall colors or some other stupid caca.

We had way different concerns such as does the plumbing & heating work, can the kiddos walk to school safely, are there termites or bullet holes in the walls? Seriously, we looked at a house once that had bullet holes. Don’t know what happened there since we removed it from our list of preferred housing.

        • Town

Actually a lot of people DO reject houses because of wall and floor colors, etc. They want the houses to be brand new, move in ready and will reject them if they aren’t.

          • Alma98

I can’t stand the ones with 125,000 dollar budget but want a 250,000 house.

          • Aquagranny911

Hard to believe. I guess they never heard of paint, rollers & DIY. Their best bet is to buy a brand new, never lived in house.

          • Town

But see, they can’t afford a brand new house. But they want the used house they’re buying to look like a brand new house.

          • Aquagranny911

Dumb because you have to pay more anyway but then what do I know? Our houses have been dumps we got a good price on & then we fixed them up our selves.

You can do just about anything with patience & a good DIY book from the library.

        • MsKitty

House Hunters and House Hunters International are so fake they shouldn’t even be classified as reality shows. With HH the buyers already have the house in escrow by the time they start filming, with the other 2 houses being decoys (the house that has little to no furniture is usually the one they bought).

And on HHI the buyers are folks who most times moved to the foreign country years earlier; the show’s production company scours expatriate blogs for candidates. It’s hilarious reading some of these blogs about how the “buyers” were flown back to the US or UK to film their farewell scenes, and that their belongings had to be moved out so the house looked empty.

          • Alma98

This is what I’m talking about, no matter what show it is its always 3 houses. The most fake to me is Property Brothers the houses always have problems. The one brother who says he’s a great real-estate agent sucks, the people always end up over paying for crappy houses.

          • Town

What those shows do is they call up the real estate office and ask them if they have someone who’s going to close on the week of _________.

Then they have an agent show them the 2 decoy houses while the buyers scrunch their faces up and look sad and then they pretend to fall in love with the house they have actually bought.

(For extra drama, they’ll pretend to be torn between one of the decoy houses and the house they actually bought).

Then they film the scene of them signing papers in the closing office.

For payment, the buyers will get a piece of furniture paid for by HGTV/production company. But on the show they’ll claim a family member or friend bought ____ for them.

The agent gets national TV exposure, so that’s their payment right there.

          • HGTV has been getting kinda stingy with the “house warming gifts” on “My First Place”. Either they don’t give the buyer anything or they give them one piece of furniture, whereas in the beginning, they used to decorate an entire room.

          • Alma98

I noticed that too I like was hey where the gifts at.

          • itgurl_29

Yes. I read this blog called Design Mom and they were already living in France for a while when they got the call from House Hunters. House Hunters International is beyond fake. But I still love it.

          • Alma98

            HA! it’s on right now.

          • Dang. Those are my two favorite shows on HGTV. I’ll never look at them the same again. I feel 🙁

          • MsKitty

It has its positives though. I usually DVR HH anyway, so by skipping the decoys I can now watch it in half the time. I like seeing the houses and neighborhoods in other countries, so I still watch HHI faithfully (except for the Caribbean episodes. You’ve seen one luxury beachfront property, you’ve seen them all.).

          • Alma98

The show is Property Virgins. They replaced Sandra with an African American woman.

          • vulcan_girl

I just watch for the houses. Do you ever watch My First Place? I think they’re doing a US version now, because Sandra’s not the host and she has no accent. Or I could be watching another show.

    – —Mitt Romney Outed As Anti-Gay High School Bully– – –

    – — – –Last year’s string of heartbreaking suicides by young members of the LGBT community who had been bullied by their classmates led hundreds of celebrities, sports teams, politicians and ordinary citizens to record “It Gets Better” videos. Even President Obama recorded one.

    – –One politician who has not: Mitt Romney, who has been relatively silent on the issue. This morning, a story in The Washington Post reveals that the presidential candidate engaged in bullying behavior during his days at a prestigious preparatory school in Michigan:

John Lauber, a soft-spoken new student one year behind Romney, was perpetually teased for his nonconformity and presumed homosexuality. Now he was walking around the all-boys school with bleached-blond hair that draped over one eye, and Romney wasn’t having it.
A few days later, Friedemann entered Stevens Hall off the school’s collegiate quad to find Romney marching out of his own room ahead of a prep school posse shouting about their plan to cut Lauber’s hair. Friedemann followed them to a nearby room where they came upon Lauber, tackled him and pinned him to the ground. As Lauber, his eyes filling with tears, screamed for help, Romney repeatedly clipped his hair with a pair of scissors.

    – – – — SKIP- — : “Back in high school, I did some dumb things and if anybody was hurt by that or offended, obviously I apologize for that…I don’t remember that incident,” Romney said, laughing. “I certainly don’t believe that I thought the fellow was homosexual. That was the furthest thing from our minds back in the 1960s, so that was not the case.”

Romney Friend Stu White Says Campaign Wants Him to Counter Prank Accusations

One of Mitt Romney’s closest friends and a high school classmate has been asked by the Romney campaign to come out and offer “supporting remarks” in defense of the candidate following a Washington Post article that described pranks at the Cranbrook School in the 1960s that focused on a student who was “presumed” to be gay. Romney has denied that the pranks were targeted.

Romney’s older brother Scott called White, asking him to act as a surrogate for Romney on their high school years.

White, in an interview with ABC News, said that he is “still debating” whether he will help the campaign, remarking, “It’s been a long time since we’ve been pals.” While the Post reports White as having “long been bothered” by the haircutting incident,” he told ABC News he was not present for the prank, in which Romney is said to have forcefully cut a student’s long hair and was not aware of it until this year when he was contacted by the Washington Post.

Wife hits husband with SUV after argument over recalls

A Chippewa Falls man who repeatedly tried to block his estranged wife from driving to the polls Tuesday was hospitalized with head, neck and back injuries when she struck him with her sport utility vehicle.

Jeffrey Radle, a Gov. Scott Walker supporter, was on foot.
Amanda Radle, a recall proponent, was in a Dodge Durango.

The pair had been arguing early Tuesday afternoon over who she was going to vote for in the gubernatorial recall election primary, said Chippewa Falls Police Chief Wendy L. Stelter.

“She was planning on voting for a certain candidate, and it wasn’t the candidate he wanted her to vote for,” Stelter said.
When Amanda Radle, 30, attempted to pull out, Jeffrey Radle, 36, stood in front of her, according to a police department statement. She nudged him with the vehicle several times.

Each time he would “retreat and re-establish his ground,” the release said. “At one point he climbed onto the hood.”
When she finally attempted to drive around him, Jeffrey Radle jumped in front of the vehicle and was hit. Aman da Radle left the scene and went to the police department to report the incident, the release said.
“These crazy liberal nuts are always pulling this crap,” said Radle’s brother, Mike Radle, describing himself and his brother as firm supporters of Walker, the subject of the recall.

    Classic Physical Comedy
    By Zandar May 10th, 2012

And the Team Obama rope-a-dope of the Romney campaign into the Wingnut Event Horizon took just 100 hours or so from Joe Biden’s statement on Sunday.

Ed Gillespie, senior adviser to Mitt Romney’s presidential campaign, told Chuck Todd on MSNBC’s Daily Rundown that the campaign would make President Obama’s support for marriage equality an issue this November and that Romney will actively push for a constitutional amendment to take away the right of states to voluntarily extend marriage equality to same-sex couples.
Gillespie told Todd that same-sex marriage “will be another bright-line difference in this campaign.” He added that the GOP intends to campaign on the issue.

In other words, Mr. Etch-A-Sketch here just got drawn all over by a giant Sharpie and the manic scrawl reads I AM A BIGOTED NUTJOB JUST LIKE THE REST OF THEM. Good luck with that pivot to “small government centrist” there, Mittastrophe.

    • Good grief. He’s going to go even further than places like Nebraska and Alabama. The dope walked right into the trap.

    – — – Rep. Paul Broun (R-GA), the Georgia lawmaker who once described the Civil War as the “Great War of Yankee Aggression,” offered an amendment to a spending bill at 10pm last night that would have stripped the Department of Justice of its ability to enforce Second Five of the Voting Rights Act. Section Five requires certain areas with a history of race discrimination to “pre-clear” its voting policies with DOJ or a federal court in order to ensure that those laws do not target minority voters, and it was the basis for a few recent DOJ decisions to block voter ID laws.

Fortunately, it soon became clear that Broun’s attack on voting rights lacked support after Rep. John Lewis (D-GA), a hero of the Civil Rights Movement who still bears visible scars from when he was beaten by Alabama state troopers for marching in favor of voting rights, reminded the gathered lawmakers why we have a Voting Rights Act:

It is hard, and difficult, and almost unbelievable that any Member — but especially a Member from the state of Georgia — would come and offer such amendment. There’s a long history in our country, especially in the 11 states that are old Confederacy — from Virginia to Texas — of discrimination based on race, on color. Maybe some of us need to study a little contemporary history dealing with the question of voting rights.

  • White House Announces New Steps to Cut Red Tape, Eliminate Unnecessary Regulations

Changes Expected to Help Save Businesses and Consumers Nearly $6 Billion

WASHINGTON, DC – Today, as part of the Obama Administration’s unprecedented government-wide regulatory review, the White House announced five final rules that will save nearly $6 billion in the next five years by eliminating outdated requirements and unjustified costs. To ensure that the federal government continues this important work, the President also signed a new Executive Order today, making it a continuing obligation of our government to scrutinize rules on the books to see if they really make sense.

Today’s announcements mark an important milestone in the ambitious regulatory “lookback” that President Obama ordered in 2011 to cut through unnecessary red tape while promoting economic growth and protecting public health, safety, welfare, and our environment.

The President’s Council of Economic Advisers (CEA) also issued a report today on the “lookback” progress to date, noting that agencies have identified over 500 reforms, just a small fraction of which will save more than $10 billion over the next five years.

“Smart rules can save lives and keep us safe, but there are some regulations that don’t make sense and cost too much,” said President Obama. “We will remain vigilant when it comes to eliminating regulations that are not necessary or that impose unnecessary burdens on America’s families and businesses.”

JP Morgan Chase announced $2 billion in losses over the last 6 weeks; with another $1 billion possibly coming today in a conference call at 5pm hosted by Jamie Dimon. Only Merrill Lynch’s 16 billion loss in 2008 when Bank of America acquired it at the height of the crisis is larger I read at Felix Salmon’s blog at Reuters.

J.P. Morgan Chase & Co. has taken $2 billion in trading losses in the past six weeks and could face an additional $1 billion in second-quarter losses due to market volatility, Chief Executive James Dimon said Thursday in a hastily arranged conference call after U.S. markets closed.

The losses stemmed from derivatives bets gone wrong in the bank’s Chief Investment Office, which manages risk for the New York company. The Wall Street Journal reported last month that large bets—by a London-based trader named Bruno Michel Iksil—being made in that office had roiled a sector of the debt markets.

The loss is a black eye for the bank, which sailed through the financial crisis in better shape than many of its peers, and for Mr. Dimon, who was deemed King of Wall Street during the financial crisis. It comes at a time when large banks are fighting efforts by regulators to rein in risky trading with measures such as the so-called Volcker rule. J.P. Morgan, the U.S.’s largest bank by assets, said in its quarterly regulatory filing that a plan it has been using to hedge risks “has proven to be riskier, more volatile and less effective as an economic hedge than the firm previously believed.”

    – — – —Earlier today, the Department of Justice filed a formal legal complaint against Sheriff Joe Arpaio and the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office (MCSO) alleging widespread constitutional violations and lawless mistreatment of Latinos. According to the complaint, Arpaio and his staff engaged in widespread, violent and demeaning mistreatment of Latino residents of Maricopa County, often targeting individuals solely because of their race:

Forcing Women To Sleep In Their Own Menstrual Blood: In Arpaio’s jails, “female Latino LEP prisoners have been denied basic sanitary items. In some instances, female Latino LEP prisoners have been forced to remain with sheets or pants soiled from menstruation because of MCSO’s failure to ensure that detention officers provide language assistance in such circumstances.”
Assaulting Pregnant Women: “[A]n MCSO officer stopped a Latina woman – a citizen of the United States and five months pregnant at the time – as she pulled into her driveway. After she exited her car, the officer then insisted that she sit on the hood of the car. When she refused, the officer grabbed her arms, pulled them behind her back, and slammed her, stomach first, into the vehicle three times. He then dragged her to the patrol car and shoved her into the backseat. He left her in the patrol car for approximately 30 minutes without air conditioning. The MCSO officer ultimately issued a citation for failure to provide identification.”

——–Shocking or no big deal? A woman breastfeeding her 3-year-old son is the cover photo of this week’s Time magazine for a story on “attachment parenting,” and reactions ranged from applause to cringing to shrugs.

The photo showed Jamie Lynne Grumet, 26, a stay-at-home mom in Los Angeles who says her mother breastfed her until she was 6 years old. She told the magazine in an interview that she’s given up reasoning with strangers who see her son nursing and threaten “to call social services on me or that it’s child molestation.”

“People have to realize this is biologically normal,” she said, adding, “The more people see it, the more it’ll become normal in our culture. That’s what I’m hoping. I want people to see it.”

hmm, well this story will have legs at least until the Sunday shows. Only 2 stories big enough to talk about…”Obama endorses SSM” and “Romney was an anti-gay bully at teen”

“Assault And Battery” By “A Pack Of Dogs”

…“It’s a haunting memory. I think it was for everybody that spoke up about it… because when you see somebody who is simply different taken down that way and is terrified and you see that look in their eye you never forget it. And that was what we all walked away with,” said Phillip Maxwell, who is now an attorney and still considers Romney an old friend.

“I saw it with my own eyes,” said Maxwell, of the anecdote first reported by the Washington Post. Maxwell said Romney held the scissors helping to cut the hair of a student, John Lauber, who was presumed to be gay and who had long hair. “It was a hack job… clumps of hair taken off.” Maxwell said he held the boy’s arm and leg, describing he and his friends as a “pack of dogs.”

Asked if Lauber was targeted because he was gay, as reported by the Post, Maxwell said, “We didn’t know that word in those days… but there were other words that were used. We weren’t ignorant, we just didn’t use the current names for things.” …

“This was bullying supreme,” he said…

    – – —The President’s LGBT Successes – —

    – – – –The president’s remarks yesterday on same-sex marriage are absolutely welcome, but not entirely surprising, given his record so far. Even Greenwald gave ample credit where credit is due:

President Obama today became the first American president to endorse same-sex marriage, telling ABC News‘s Robin Roberts: “it is important for me to go ahead and affirm that I think same-sex couples should be able to get married.” His record on LGBT equality has not been perfect, but it is one area where he has been quite impressive. He engineered the repeal of Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell. His Justice Department is refusing to defend the constitutionality of DOMA in court, a very unusual step. He has ushered in a series of important federal spousal benefits for gay employees of the federal government. And now, for the first time, the office of the American President is officially supporting a policy that a mere decade ago was deemed truly radical: same-sex marriage. Those are real achievements. And, as virtually all polls reflect – underscored by last night’s landslide defeat for marriage equality in North Carolina — they carry genuine political risk. He deserves credit for his actions in this civil rights realm.

If Bristol Palin’s on twitter, y’all might want to kick her ass over this bull shit about Sasha and Malia…

“So let me get this straight – it’s a problem if my mom listened too much to my dad, but it’s a heroic act if the President made a massive change in a policy position that could affect the entire nation after consulting with his teenage daughters?

While it’s great to listen to your kids’ ideas, there’s also a time when dads simply need to be dads. In this case, it would’ve been helpful for him to explain to Malia and Sasha that while her friends parents are no doubt lovely people, that’s not a reason to change thousands of years of thinking about marriage. Or that – as great as her friends may be – we know that in general kids do better growing up in a mother/father home. Ideally, fathers help shape their kids’ worldview.

In this situation, it was the other way around. I guess we can be glad that Malia and Sasha aren’t younger, or perhaps today’s press conference might have been about appointing Dora the Explorer as Attorney General because of her success in stopping Swiper the Fox.

Sometimes dads should lead their family in the right ways of thinking. In this case, it would’ve been nice if the President would’ve been an actual leader and helped shape their thoughts instead of merely reflecting what many teenagers think after one too many episodes of Glee.”
