Hey Miranda. um, uh, oh… pssst, aah, looking at the thread title…..whispering… ain’t today Tuesday? um, just sayin’…

        • Miranda

Wait…Sunday….Monday…..oh damn its just Tuesday?!?!? LOL

You know half of these fools think it’s Fidel he’s shaking hands with. They only listen to Faux news and the beltway so they probably don’t know Fidel is dead. lol

      • crazycanuck

Fidel is still alive, unless I’ve missed something.

        • Alma98

You know what I mean, I guess I should change that lol.

This is why I can’t be too mad at Katy for too long when she does dumb stuff like dressing us a geisha. She’s been a true ride or die robot.

How you gonna be against PBO but want an invite to the inauguration party? They can have a seat at the curb with Cornel and Travesty.

      • crazycanuck

        LOL

    • Town

I suspect her parents went around saying Obama was a Muslim, born in Kenya, the AntiChrist etc. and then turned around trying to get the hookup from Katy. I don’t think it’s as simple as “Katy’s parents are Republican so she wouldn’t let them come.”

I think it’s more of the they think Obama is black & evul, but then wanted tickets to come cheese it up in his face and Katy was like “Um, no.”

      • itgurl_29

I’m sure that’s the case. She’s talked a lot about how her parents are crazy right wing tea baggers. I’m glad she shut them down. It was the right thing to do.

        • Town

I don’t think it’s as simple as them just being Republican. Katy Perry’s parents are both preachers & they’re probably both fundamentalists and were probably very rabidly against Obama.

It would be like Michael Eric Dyson getting invited to the 2013 Obama inauguration & Cornel West calling Dyson up trying to come along with him. After you done called the man every name in the sun? No, sir!

    • AxelFoley

Damn, the mother of all shades right there!

    Another knock-out game hoax:

The Latest “Knockout Game” Claim Was a Lie, But the Truth is Way More Depressing

    http://blogs.riverfronttimes.com/dailyrft/2013/12/knockout_game_justin_simms_depew.php

    *********
Long story short: a domestic violence victim, scared of naming her assailant, instead keyed into the latest (IMO racist) media frenzy and hype, falsely claiming that black kids playing “knock-out game” beat her. I’ve long thought that the knock-out game is hyped way beyond its actual prevalence, and is just another way in which the media exoticizes black people and insinuates that we SHOULD be racially profiled and collectively punished. This is a very violent country, and if the media wants to hype a form of assault, domestic violence harms the most Americans, hands down. And Don Lemon, who perpetuated this foolishness, continues his descent into pure Geraldo-esque buffoonery.

    • Alma98

Someone posted this yesterday and I said the media will not be making any retractions. It doesn’t fit their narrative about black people.

      • gn

Nope, there won’t be any retractions at all. When I think about how someone like Don Lemon steps and fetches it in furtherance of this racist hype, I just wonder how this man sleeps at night.

        • http://pragmaticobotsunite.blogspot.com/ Sepia

Don Lemon is a disgrace. I still can’t believe he allowed that Rabbi to demonstrate self-defense on him, which was really nothing but him helping the racist Rabbi push his anti-Black agenda. I wish Tom Joyner would end his business relationship with him.

          • gn

ICAM. He really has become a buffoon. Frustrates me that he’s marketing himself as just keeping it real, or dishing tough love, when he’s doing anything but. People like this give credibility to the non-stop attacks on and fetishizing of black people. This has a terrible effect. Yet he sees no irony in complaining about the racism which comes his way. Before I thought that he’s just another weak voice, but now, I’m really starting to dislike Lemon.

          • AxelFoley

Lemon did what now? Do I even want to know about this?

I can always tell when some people don’t have a family and rags on eachh other as much as we love each other, cause they get all holier than thou a good natured humor.

shoot my family laugh at each other as much as we do others. for example, my sister lost her job a out 3 months ago for bad customer service reviews & if u know my sister it ain’t surprising that she would. so anyway, my fam first started out with condolences and aww man. but let me tell ya fast forward to about 1hr to 30 min later, we were all cracking jokes about my sisters lack of customer service skills even my sister was cracking jokes.

my family deals and gets through trying with the aid of prayer and yes laughter. it’s how we do, so that’s why I’m just over all the people on twitter and elsewhere who can’t even take a moment to laugh a bit. it don’t mean we don’t appreciate the gravitas of the moment or the importance, we just took a little time out to LOL before going back to talk seriousness.

    • MsKitty

My family put the twisted in twisted humor. Don’t even get me started about my Uncle’s funeral 20 years ago. Even in his ’70s he was a playa, so at the service 4 of his lady friends showed up. So much shade and side eye going on that me and my sisters were in tears (of laughter). For real, if you were sitting a few rows behind us you would have thought we were shaking from mournful sobs…in reality we were cracking jokes trying to make each other bust out laughing.

Snark, sarcasm, inappropriate humor. That just how my family rolls.

  • Alma98

Miranda you got me still reading tweets at Everything I’m Not
    ‏@No_Cut_Card.

    • aleth

This is a double edge sword. On one hand it’s harmless fun no caring about the gaze but on the other hand it is propelling stereotypes. The pics were all out of context. Unfortunately it gives the media extra incentive not to focus on the meatiness of the speech. To be black in America. I’m also seeing people taking issue with not give Mrs O her respect and reducing he to a character. It sucks when fun cannot be fun without becoming a mainstream indictment on flotus. Where is the balance? Selfiegate and angryblackw

      • Alma98

They can think and say what they want aleth they do anyway. I’m not paying them no mind and I’m not making fun of FLOTUS & PBO. I don’t live my life for white folks approval and neither does the first couple.

      • Miranda

        “Where is the balance?”

        —————
Good question…and there won’t be a balance because we are living in an age where black folks are under constant attack in every aspect. Our every utterance is dissected by the media (in the most negative way) for the consumption of racist white folks who simply have been driven insane because the fallacy of white supremacy was slapped up against their heads with the election of Barack Obama. So we can’t tell jokes, sing, dance, celebrate anything that doesn’t involve centering around Mista Charlie and Miss Ann. If we do, its an indictment on something or another.

    @60th_Street
o/ RT @BloombergNews: BREAKING: “Volcker rule” approved by all five U.S. regulators

  • gn

Is this serious? Are people really going to make Michelle Obama’s expression in a few pics at the Mandela memorial into a “thing”? I see something floating around twitter claiming that the First Lady made POTUS switch seats because she didn’t want him sitting next to the attractive Danish prime minister. How does anyone know that the Danish prime minister didn’t ask to sit next to Michelle, who is also extremely popular along with her husband? Has anyone seen this?

    • itgurl_29

They are taking the jokes too damn far. The meme was funny at first, but they’re acting like this is a FACT or something. It’s gotten out of hand.

      • gn

Got it—I could see it being cute as a joke, but I highly doubt that in actuality, it’s anything more than different expressions and different seating at different times during the program. Who wouldn’t want to sit next to both PBO and FLO?

      • isonprize

They just mad that PBO don’t want blondie.
        <======================
Check out my icon. Does that look like a man who wants anybody else OTHER than Michelle.

    • Town

Well, Michelle is black and ugly and jellus of the white woman so that’s why Barack will be sleeping on the WH sofa tonight. #blackmanskryptonite

      • gn

And they’re acting like her facial expression, which is normal and neutral, is evil or something. PBO’s speech today was excellent. It really should be leading the chatter and the beltway news, as he represented so well for this country today.

        • Town

Yet they are not commenting on Laura Bush’s expression or George W. Bush sitting like a 2 year old after a massive tantrum.

    • MsKitty

Of course they are. And watch for the accompanying articles…

*Barack Obama: World Leader…Except at Home
*Michelle Obama Really Is an Angry Black Woman
*Marital Humor About the Obamas: Harmless fun or Deeply Rooted American Views about Black Couples?

People gonna react the way they’re gonna react. If it wasn’t this it would be something else. But after almost 6 years of this nonstop cycle I’m past caring to be honest.

      • crazycanuck

And that is why I was weary of this whole thing on twitter. This is who the Media is today, and I’m not surprised they would take what happened and turn it into something else.

      • jziglar

That’s the only play they have. They think that tearing down the Obama’s will make them feel good about themselves but it only makes them look petty and small.

      • BarbinAtlSouth

In case you didn’t know, that’s been on the cover of the tabloids for a while now. Either they’re getting divorced or she’s mad & won’t let him do whatever or he was married before & didn’t tell her.

Now folks are going to give credence to twitter posts?

That’ll be the day we can just burn down every news studio.

        • MsKitty

Yep. See it at the grocery store checkout every week. The Globe is the biggest offender.

Oh dear, I guess Colin Powell is now some kind of commie, marxist, socialist….ummmmm…..hates freedom!! Yeah, that’s it!

Gen. Colin Powell calls for universal health care in the U.S.

Colin Powell, former U.S. secretary of state, gave the keynote speech at the Prostate Cancer Survivors Celebration Breakfast on Thursday in Seattle.

“We are a wealthy enough country with the capacity to make sure that every one of our fellow citizens has access to quality health care,” he said Thursday at a Seattle fundraiser for prostate cancer. “(Let’s show) the rest of the world what our democratic system is all about and how we take care of all of our citizens.”

The retired four-star general, a prostate cancer survivor, spoke at the Prostate Cancer Survivors Celebration Breakfast, organized by UW Medicine and the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center.

Powell took the opportunity to share some of his own experiences and to publicly call for a health care solution similar to those in Canada, Japan and other countries that have a universal, single-payer system.

Democrats clear path for Mel Watt confirmation
by Associated Press | December 10, 2013 at 12:40 PM

WASHINGTON (AP) — Democrats have used the Senate’s newly eased filibuster procedures to clear the way for confirmation of the man President Barack Obama wants to become a top housing regulator.

The Senate voted 57-40 on Tuesday to end a Republican filibuster, or delaying tactics, against Rep. Mel Watt.

Until Democrats forced through changes last month, it took 60 votes to end filibusters — a margin Democrats cannot achieve without support from some of the chamber’s 45 Republicans.

As you all say, it was either report this non-story or about the former occupant being booed. At a funeral. Of a former world leader. I guess he should be thankful no shoes were tossed.

Former black BP executive claims she was fired for braided hair and ‘ethnic’ attire
by Carrie Healey | December 10, 2013 at 10:35 AM

Melphine Evans, a former top executive at BP, has filed a lawsuit against her former employer, in which she claims she was told her “ethnic clothing and ethnic hairstyles” made coworkers uncomfortable.

According to the 24-page lawsuit, Evans was working as the CFO BP West Coast Products when she was fired.

The former CFO claims she made complaints to supervisors and management regarding racial and gender discrimination within the company, and they responded with insensitive remarks, saying she was the problem.

Some of the offensive remarks listed in the lawsuit include:

‘You intimidate and make your colleagues uncomfortable by wearing ethnic clothing and ethnic hairstyles (‘Dashikis,’ ‘twists,’ ‘braids/cornrows’). On one occasion, a BP representative went so far as to ask Ms. Evans ‘if she understood that wearing a “dashiki” to work makes her colleagues feel uncomfortable?’

‘If you insist on wearing ethnic clothing/hairstyles-you should only do so during ‘culture day,’ black history month or special diversity events/days.’

‘If you are going to wear ethnic clothing, you should alert people in advance that you will be wearing something ethnic …’

Evans is suing for race and gender discrimination, harassment, retaliation and wrongful termination.

She states in the lawsuit that she was complimented on leadership skills just weeks before she was fired and replaced by a white male employee.

Those BP commercials have been bothering me. The line about the billions of dollars in investments in this country…

Can you count fines because you fucked up and blew up an underwater drill rig an investment?

      • conlakappa

Just like the NYFD bragging about how diverse their numbers of new firefighters are… as the result of multiple and class-action law suits. BP acts like it deserves a cookie for its “renewed commitment” to the gulf. Whatever.

    - — -LA Sheriff’s Deputies Arrested In Jail Probe (VIDEO)- –

    - — – –Federal officials said 18 current and former Los Angeles County sheriff’s deputies saw themselves as being “above the law” when they engaged in crimes that included beating inmates and jail visitors, falsifying reports, and trying to obstruct an FBI probe of the nation’s largest jail system. The investigation into corruption and civil rights abuses led to the arrests Monday of 16 of the 18 defendants. At least two no longer work for the department.
“These incidents did not take place in a vacuum. In fact, they demonstrated behavior that had become institutionalized,” said U.S.
Attorney Andre Birotte Jr. “The pattern of activity alleged in the
obstruction of justice case shows how some members of the Sheriff’s
Department considered themselves to be above the law.”

The 16 who were arrested appeared in court later Monday. Thirteen pleaded not guilty, and three did not enter pleas.

Flanked by some of his top command staff, Sheriff Lee Baca told
reporters Monday he was troubled by the charges and called it a sad day for his department. He said the department would continue to cooperate with the FBI and that deputies who have been charged would be relieved of duty and have their pay suspended.

A commenter at another site gave me a link to an extremely interesting conversation about South Africa’s land reform. Especially as 2013 marks 100 years after the 1913 legislative act which restricted the land which black people could own to 13% of the country (this resulted in massive land theft). Apparently, efforts to redress this travesty have been slow-going, to the point at which people are contemplating (and doing) land grabs, refusing to starve in their own country. This is really excellent panel discussion (the government minister makes an extremely poor showing as does the representative for commercial agriculture); for anyone with time, this is a very informative take on this issue from multiple perspectives:

    - — New Poll Finds America Hates Congressional Republicans More Than Ever

    — – -Merry Christmas, Republican Scrooges, America hates you. They hate you even more today than they did yesterday.
Only 22% of voters approve of the job the Republicans in Congress aredoing. Seventy-four percent disapprove, and 4% have either never heardof them or are unsure how to rate them, according to a new Marist Poll out today.

In fact, the government shutdown and shock and awe obstructionism of the GOP has brought all of DC down. The public hates Congress and doesn’t think as much of the President either. But they hate Republicans the most. Even more than yesterday.
