    – – – –House Republicans Cut Food Stamps, Obamacare, And Wall Street Oversight In Ill-Fated ‘Plan B’ – –

    – – –House Republicans today, in addition to voting on Speaker John Boehner’s (R-OH) so-called “Plan B” — which extends the Bush tax cuts on income up to $1 million — will also vote on a bill to replace the spending cuts scheduled for the end of the year.

As The Hill reported, the bill closely mirrors a measure passed by House Republicans in May known as the “The Sequester Replacement Reconciliation Act of 2012.” (Here is the underlying legislation, which will include these minor tweaks.) That bill voids both the military spending cuts and domestic spending cuts set to take place in 2013 and replaces them with a host of cuts to domestic spending, including:

    –☻ Cuts to food stamps that could knock millions of low-income Americans out of the program;

    –☻ Cuts to Meals on Wheels, a program that delivers meals to seniors or other individuals who are unable to prepare their own food;

    –☻ Cuts funding to health exchanges that will be created under Obamacare and funding for Medicaid included in the same law;

    – ☻Cuts to the Dodd-Frank financial reform law that will yield no cost savings, but will make bailouts of big banks more likely;

–☻ Denying the Child Tax Credit to the parents of American children, if the parents are undocumented immigrants.

  • Barney Frank to Eric Holder: Prosecute big bankers already!
    Zachary Roth, @zackroth
    12:04 pm on 12/20/2012

…Thursday morning, Frank released a letter sent to Attorney General Eric Holder, calling for increased prosecutions of financial crimes. “I ask that there be a series of consultations involving law enforcement officials and regulators with the goal of increasing prosecutions of culpable individuals as an important step in seeing that the laws that protect the stability and integrity of our financial system are better observed,” Frank wrote.

“We have received the letter and are reviewing it,” the Justice Department told

The letter came just over a week after the Justice Department announced it wouldn’t prosecute HSBC for enabling Mexican drug gangs to launder money, and helping Iranian interests to evade U.S. sanctions. Instead, it offered a settlement in which the bank would pay a fine of $1.9 billion—about four weeks’ worth of its pre-tax profits.

In public comments on the HSBC settlement, Lanny Breuer, the head of the Justice Department’s criminal division, said a prosecution could threaten the bank’s ability to operate in the U.S., and potentially destabilize the financial system more broadly. In other words, the government acknowledged that some banks are simply too big to prosecute.

I wonder if Frank cited actual laws the HSBC broke in his letter to the DOJ?

Lautenberg On Booker: No Time For ‘Political Distractions’
Igor Bobic 3:43 PM EST, Thursday December 20, 2012

Sen. Frank Lautenberg’s (D-NJ) office issued a statement on Thursday beating back some speculation after Newark Mayor Cory Booker announced he intends to challenge Lautenberg in 2014.

“Senator Lautenberg is focused on passing a critical disaster relief bill for New Jersey and addressing America’s broken gun laws,” emailed Caley Gray, a spokesman. “The last several months and weeks have been a painful time for New Jersey and America, and the Senator is working on the tough issues we face. This is not the time for political distractions and the Senator will address politics next year.”

  • This makes me like Rice even more! Oh, the SoS shade she could’ve thrown!

Rice makes light of dashed hopes to replace Clinton

With any hopes for replacing Hillary Clinton as the top U.S. diplomat dashed, Susan Rice told the annual U.N. Correspondents Association dinner “there’s nowhere in the world I’d rather be tonight” – speaking against a backdrop of the State Department.

…”My talking points for this evening have been provided to me and fully cleared by the intelligence community, so how could this possibly go wrong?” Rice told a New York audience of 540 on Wednesday that included Hollywood actor and former California governor Arnold Schwarzenegger and U.N. chief Ban Ki-moon.

…The 48-year-old diplomat, who has a reputation for bluntness and caustic language during closed-door negotiations of the U.N. Security Council, also made fun of her diplomatic dust-ups with Russian envoy Vitaly Churkin, who has criticized her vocabulary.

To have a dig at Churkin, she recalled the oft-ridiculed remark of former Alaska governor and 2008 Republican vice-presidential candidate Sarah Palin that she could see Russia from Alaska.

“Day after day, I engage in highly substantive, highly technical negotiations with my colleagues here at the U.N., like the Russians,” Rice said. “As a matter of fact, I can see the Russian mission from my house.”

  • And now for the “Let’s use grieving families to attack PBO” portion of the Sandyhook shooting:

In the wake of Friday’s horrific tragedy in Newtown, Conn., many are speaking out for gun control. Among them is 10-year-old Natalie Barden, whose brother, Daniel, was one of the shooting’s victims.

In a letter for President Obama that Anderson Cooper read on air on Tuesday night, Natalie wrote:

My name is Natalie Barden and I wanted to tell the president that only police officers and the military should get guns. If people want to do it as a sport than they could go to shooting range and the guns would not be able to leave there.

The letter was delivered to Cooper by Lillian Bittman, former Chair of the Newtown Board of Education, who said it was passed to her at Daniel Barden’s wake, and that the family wanted the host to share with viewers.

…In a heart-wrenching interview with Katie Couric earlier this week, Daniel’s father, Mark, said the family’s meeting with Obama “was a little less fruitful than we were hoping. James and our daughter Natalie had a few things that they were hoping to express to him out of concern for the fact that this situation happened at all and how we can maybe hopefully stop this from happening again.

          This. That’s all this is.

    • MonieTalks

dannie’s keeping her comments to herself…I’m not.

Newtown, CT is the HEADQUARTERS to the second most powerful gun lobby in the nation. Was everyone else in town, along with Anderson Cooper temporarily blind to the fact on this development? ( and yes, that is a dig to Anderson)

A powerful gun lobbyist organization resides in that town, whose specific purpose is to represent and carry the agenda of gun that makes $26M a year. Plenty of Newtown’s residents likely ride past the office building that NSSF is housed in, without a thought and yet they send PBO heart-wrenching pleas even though a gun lobbyist has been THEIR NEIGHBOR likely longer than PBO has been a politician.

“Enough is enough” applies to so much more than just the violence.

    • edp4bho

Trayvon Martin’s parents gave a “heart-wrenching” account of the murder of their son as well, and the state of Florida is a whole lot “less fruitful”. Yes, I went there and will do so again.

    • creolechild

It’s too bad the Barden family thinks their meeting with PBO “was a little less fruitful” than they had hoped because I don’t know what they expected him to be able to do right then and there. What they want him to do? Make promises that would make them feel better but weren’t feasible given the politcal realities that exist in this country? I’m also curious as to where the parents fell on the gun issue BEFORE the tragedy in their town occurred. If Mr. Barden wants concrete solutions to address gun violence, he can start in his hometown. From what I’ve read the local shooting ranges are still open and local gun fairs are operating as though nothing ever happened. Yes, that town suffered a terrible loss but others do as well–on a regular basis. But, of course, everything is dropped into PBO’s lap to be fixed immediately. I don’t have the patience for that today…

What I really wanted to share with you can be found by clicking on the link that will take you to a photo of PBO with some of the Sandy Hook survivors’ siblings (scroll to the bottom of the article). Now, that’s a picture worth a thousand words…but none are really needed.

She meant to say charter of negatives. She’s commenting on something PBO when he was in US Senate saying that the Constitution lists negatives, it doesn’t assert more expansive government rights, like the right to vote or education, for example.

It’s something the right latches on to show that PBO is a Marxist, Kenyan usurper, when Thoroughgood Marshall said the same thing. But, since Palin isn’t too bright, she uses a malapropism.

‘Black America’s Law Firm’ Looks To Big Cases With New Leadership

The NAACP Legal Defense Fund has been called the law firm for black America. Once run by Thurgood Marshall, the group played a major role in desegregating public schools and fighting restrictions at the ballot box.

Now, the Legal Defense Fund is preparing for a new leader — just as the Supreme Court considers cases that could pare back on those gains.

What does it mean to fight for civil rights when the nation’s first black president has been re-elected and his attorney general is African-American, too? That’s the challenge for Sherrilyn Ifill, a law professor at the University of Maryland. Next month, she’s set to become the next leader of the Legal Defense Fund.

“There are adult generations that have no memory of the civil rights movement, who are unaware of its sights, its sounds, what it meant, the seminal way in which it shaped how many of us think about America and think about the world,” Ifill says.

Perfect SAT score for Cameron Clarke, Germantown Academy senior in Philadelphia

WE’VE ALL read depressing newspaper stories about underachieving local high school students. This, I’m happy to say, isn’t that kind of column.

No, I’ve set aside this space to give a well-deserved thumbs-up to Cameron Clarke, a senior at Germantown Academy who scored a perfect 2400 on the SAT.

    That’s right. A perfect score.

    That hardly ever happens.

Although more than 1.66 million students took the SAT in 2012, only 360 test takers nationwide achieved a spotless 2400, according to SAT officials.

It was Cameron’s second try. The first time, he received a fist-pumping 2190 – better than 98.5 percent of all test-takers. But deep down inside, he knew he could do better.

    Tourism news out of Haiti

    Haiti gets new luxury hotel
    By Jacqueline Charles

…Nearly three years after it was hammered by disaster, Haiti’s Royal Oasis hotel finally opened its glass doors this week. With high-end shops and 128 rooms managed by the Spanish hotel franchise Occidental Hotels & Resorts, the luxury boutique hotel is the country’s first internationally branded hotel in more than a decade and the first multi-million dollar, high profile, locally built and financed project since the Jan. 12, 2010 earthquake.

“Royal Oasis is a beacon of modernity that we are all proud of,” said Jerry Tardieu, the 45-year-old Haitian entrepreneur who envisioned the project and brought 200 mostly Haitian shareholders together to make it a reality. “But mostly, it is a symbol of what we Haitians can do when we dare to dream big.”

Haiti to see construction of first 4-star hotel
    Associated Press

PORT-AU-PRINCE, Haiti — Construction crews on Wednesday began to build what is touted as Haiti’s first four-star branded hotel, a $45 million project expected to help boost the country’s economy.

The Marriott hotel will create some 200 jobs and is scheduled to open in early 2015, officials said. It will feature 175 rooms and will be located in the Turgeau area of Port-au-Prince.

The hotel is one of several planned for the capital and surrounding areas as Haiti tries to recover from a devastating 2010 earthquake that officials say killed 300,000 people.

    – – –Newtown Neighbor Launches City’s Largest Gun Buyback – –

    – — – The Mayor of Bridgeport, Connecticut has secured nearly $100,000 for a gun buyback program that will launch on Friday, making it the city’s largest-ever attempt to collect and destroy firearms.

Bridgeport is just under 20 miles from Newtown, Connecticut, where a shooting claimed the lives of 27 people just last week. Bridgeport Mayor Bill Finch said he was launching the buyback to avoid situations like the one in Newtown:

    – – – -SNIP – –

Police said they would offer $200 for a working handgun, and people turning in rifles would get $75.

Police said any weapon determined to be an assault-type rifle would be eligible for a higher rate of remuneration.

    – –Similar gun buybacks are happening across the country in the coming days. Los Angeles will host one next week, Lansing, Michigan will run its own soon, and a New Jersey town is matching dollars given in gun buybacks with donations to the victims of the shooting in Connecticut. • GOVCHRIS1988

You know what, the Mayan’s were right. Were starting to enter a new age of enlightenment. A new way of thinking. NOT that apocalyptic shit that some white guy invented to explain it away. I mean, the fact that now the old ways are no longer the standard. No longer can white people expect to solely rule the world anymore. No longer can they claim that they are the only race that excels in intellect, sexuality, humbleness, cleanliness, and a clear sense of understanding about simple fact. I mean, seriously, look at Sarah Palin. This bitch seethes with overwhelming envy of President Barack Obama. I mean look at her. Four years ago, I was threatened, truly threatened by her ascending to becoming either the 47th Vice President of the United States or the 45th President of the United States. And yet, this woman quit her job as Governor and went on a D-List reality tour that makes the Kardashians look like a major American success story. Now, President Obama is a two term popular the world over leader of the free world, and she is a person who Fox News cannot wait to Glenn Beck out of a network contract. In the age of Obama, the old is giving way to the new.

Now, let me get to the shooting and more importantly, Jake Tapper’s dumbassed question. First, isn’t it something that it took a multitude of children, no babies, WHITE babies being shot for the majority to seriously look at gun laws in our nation. Don’t get me wrong, it tugged at my heart seeing all the photos and hearing all the memories of how sweet these children were, but it tugged the same heartstrings when I hear the same things from Black mothers, Latino mothers, Asian mothers. The note that the child wrote in the classroom is the same note that those mothers sometimes get before they go to collect the body of their deceased sons and daughters.

Many here were upset when Jake Tapper asked President Obama “Where have you been?” I just laughed. Really, white bred, elite living, six figure salary, never had to work his ass off for shit Jake Tapper asked Afro-American, Chicago and New York slum living, worked his fucking ass off to get to where he is true American story President Barack Obama, “Where have you been on gun laws?” Seriously? As if Tapper were permanently on the hunt for proper gun laws in America? As if he witnessed his best friend or his family member shot down on the street or that he himself faced gunfire. HA!! Jake, where were YOU when these weapons got in our streets and gunned down our children mercilessly? Where were you when Black and Latino mothers had to talk about how wonderful and sweet their children were? Where were you with the photos of those precious lost children? Barack Obama knew where he was, he was just waiting for you and folks like you to catch up.

But see, these folks never had to worry about it coming on to their street. Those folks in Connecticut are probably going through understandable motions right now. Its not hard to believe. But, they are also grappling with a reality that WE have always known. That a gun can kill someone as easily on West Paces Ferry Rd. as it can on Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Drive. It doesn’t matter whether your school has failed AYP tests year after year or is the top national school of excellence 10 years running in the richest community. All it takes is a crazy motherfucker with access to a weapon and all those stories you hear on the news following Black and Latino folks can happen to you. Trayvon Martin and Jordan Davis are no longer the only ones to have their mothers and fathers suffer to gun violence. And I seriously think that what really fucks em up was that it wasn’t one of US that did the shooting, but it was a white guy who they could picture their elder sons hanging with and their elder daughters dating that did it. Which is why they are on board with gun control legislation now.

So, in a way I’m sort of amused by these same whites, who have demonized and bashed Barack Obama for telling the absolute truth that when Whites are scared, they grab hold to religion and guns , the same whites who after this man’s election and re-election, bought guns by the droves and instituted bullshit laws like allowing guns in parks and bars and the infamous “Stand Your Ground” law are NOW demanding he do something to alleviate them from this scourge that they have now found on their doorstep. They live and have lived in the same state that possesses the gun lobbying organization and NOW they demand gun laws? I know my post is long and this is what happens when I don’t type here for awhile and have a lot on my mind, but doesn’t it just tickle you sometimes the reaction of these folks? Its just amusing to me.

    • creolechild

To me…it’s only “amusing” in a don’t know whether to laugh or cry way because they still don’t fucking get it and I wonder if they ever will. Probably not. But everything you said was total, unadulterated truth…

I cannot STAND Jack Tapper and have routinely avoided ABC News just because of him. My family and I watch CNN on the regular since we’ve been doing so for years, and that’s the most palatable and accessible national news in the morning. Soledad is a must watch for me before I leave my house and MSNBC’s chyron setup makes me dizzy.

If Jack Tapper is gonna be on CNN, I’m gonna have to change my viewing habits. I’m gonna start watching MSNBC more, even if it means just DVRing Soledad’s show.

I finally caught Rev Al’s show last week and it’s good. He has great guests and Martin Bashir is cool too.

      this is a brilliant comment.

      thank you.

this shooting has turned their asses over and upside down.

their first course is always to blame the victim – the victim HAD to be ‘doing something’…isn’t that what we were told about Trayvon and Jordan. They HAD to be doing ‘SOMETHING’.

Well, these folks were doing something – children just going to school, and the adults were at their fucking job.

next, it’s always, well, the guns….where’d they come from?

ALL of these were legally bought.

ALL of them, every last one of the killing machines.

next….well, we don’t have anything to compare it too.

Actually, we do. We have a comparison all the way around the world. A crazyman went into a school in China, and he hurt 22 children. But…they all lived, because he DIDN’T HAVE ACCESS TO A GUN. All he had was a knife, because China has gun control.

So, 22 still alive children vs. 20 dead children.

Then, they use the ‘ well, they weren’t trained to use those weapons’.

yes, he was. His mother, who was stupid enough to have weapons in a house with a mentally ill person – took this mofo to the gun range – all the time.

they can’t blame it on a Black or Brown person….

they don’t know what to do.

      • conlakappa

The WashPost had an article about the lack of sympathy being directed at the loss of the mother/her being in the count of the dead. No doubt, it marks the beginning of rehabbing her rep, no doubt.

        • isonprize

As I said. the “save a Becky” campaign began a few days ago.

          • conlakappa

I don’t think it was getting traction in Newtown though. I think it crystallized when the President also absented her from the count. According to the article, one of her bar friends whispered “7” under her breath when the President said, “…and 6 adults.” Of course, he was speaking of the slaughter at the school but any search for offense is a worthy one.

      • GOVCHRIS1988

Exactly. They went to the first person of color, President Barack Obama, indirectly trying to blame him for what happened. I mean, Tapper cited Columbine, which happened back in 1999, when Bill Clinton was President, George W. Bush was running for President, and Barack Obama was an unknown Illinois State Senator contemplating a run for a U.S. House Seat. Tell me, which person has more power and responsibility to handle the crisis of guns in the country at that time? Seriously, its like they have dropped off the back of a moving truck on this.

    • TyrenM

GovChris. So on point. One thought

“I seriously think that what really fucks em up was that it wasn’t one of US that did the shooting, but it was a white guy who they could picture their elder sons hanging with and their elder daughters (fucking and bringing home. If he killed his own mother, WE wouldn’t have a chance)

dating that did it. Which is why they are on board with gun control legislation now.

      Other than that, just right..

Do Your Senators Support an Assault Weapons Ban?

Barely 48 hours after the Newtown massacre, Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D-Calif.) announced that she’d introduce “a bill to ban assault weapons” on day one of the next congressional session. “It will ban the sale, the transfer, the importation, and the possession,” she said on Meet the Press. “And it will ban the same for big clips, drums, or strips of more than 10 bullets.”

So far, only a few of her colleagues have dared to weigh in. But all of them will be under pressure to do so, and Mother Jones is tracking all of their responses—99 sitting senators*, 12 members-elect, and one member-designate. Here is a look at the senators who have responded so far (as of 10 a.m. EST, December 19): [….]

Great resource! Gladly both my senators are on board for an assault weapons ban. I was surprised by Kristin Gillibrand’s endorsement since she was an Upstate NY pro-gun Dem, but she seems very pragmatic into catering to the desires of her constituents. When she was a representative in upstate NY she mirrored those constituents, and now that she’s a statewide politician, she’s reflecting the larger state viewpoint on this.

It’s not every day that a former prison work camp is given new life as a place to grow food. But that’s exactly what’s happening in Peoria, Ill., where Hanna City, the shuttered facility that was also once a home for delinquent boys and a 1950s Air Force radar base, is being reborn as a food hub and farm incubator site. The 40-acre patch of land is growing on local sustainability supporters, who believe it could be easily transformed into a farm training center and production location, helping to boost the local economy and supply food to the region’s vast food deserts.[….]

Aiming High: Hyatt Housekeepers Seek to Join Hotel’s Corporate Board

While Michigan workers gained attention by protesting their state legislature’s right-to-work law this week, in Illinois, Hyatt Hotels and Resorts housekeepers are aiming for a largely untested (at least in the United States) strategy for influencing their employer’s decisionmaking: the Hyatt workers are trying to persuade Hyatt’s board of directors to add one of their employee housekeepers to its corporate board.[….]

As members of UNITE HERE, a union representing workers from the fast food, hotel, gaming, textile, and several other industries, the Hyatt workers have alleged that Hyatt holds them responsible for unreasonable amounts of work, including cleaning up to thirty rooms per day.[….] To help address these issues, the protesters seek to pressure Hyatt into reforming its board by including a worker. They presented the idea to Farley Kern, Hyatt’s Vice President of Communications, on Tuesday, and are waiting for feedback about their proposal.[….]

Sam Jackson on Playing the House Ni**a in ‘Django Unchained’ (Watch)

Blacktree TV’s Jamaal Finkley spoke to Samuel L. Jackson this past weekend to discuss the actor’s controversial role in the equally controversial Quentin Tarantino film “Django Unchained.”

In the production, Jackson plays a Steven, the “house ni**a.” No, he doesn’t do the “yessa boss, I’s comin’” thing, but there’s no doubt he’s, well a “house ni*a.” and quite frankly he’s a damn good one, too. It’s one of those roles, like the film itself, that’s going to piss of a LOT of black folk. But, you won’t be able to stop looking at what you’re seeing. Oh yeah, don’t be shocked if he gets an Oscar nod for the role.

So, what’s the process with Sam and Quentin? They’ve have history (“Jackie Brown,” “Pulp Fiction). Finkley started things off by basically asking what is it about their relationship that allows them to work together and create great characters and chemistry?

“Quentin writes the stories and he presents the characters to me and I look at it and say it’s a good challenge and I’ll do it,” responded Jackson. “When he sent ‘Django to me, I read it and he told me you’re Steven, and I was like it’s 15 years too late to be Django because … I wanna be a western hero with guns and you want me to be the most despised negro in cinematic history.”

But we’re talking Samuel L. Jackson here. Once he takes a role, no matter what it is, even a lowly character like Steven, he’s going to try and hit it out the park, which he did. He adds half jokingly …

    – — –Democratic Rep. Goes Off On GOP, Apologizes To Benghazi Testifiers: ‘You Have Been Brought Here As A Ruse’ – –

    — – —During today’s congressional hearings over the Benghazi attacks, retiring Democratic Rep. Gary Ackerman (NY) used his speaking time to attack the Republican Party and personally apologize to the State Department officials for their being brought before Congress as part of a GOP partisan “ruse.”

“I want to first start by apologizing to the deputy secretaries because you have been brought here as a ruse,” Ackerman pointedly said to the testifiers seated before microphones along a table before him. “You are being used as foils to the conflicting intentions of some people on our committee and others in Washington for partisan political purposes.”

He continued to tear into the Republicans for helping Congress to become a “partisan bickering bunch of grousing old people trying to exploit whatever we can to our political advantage.” Yeesh.

The retiring congressman then lamented that his colleagues “have become people who want to exploit any kind of national calamity to the political advantage of our party. And the public is sick and tired of it.”

    – —THIS – – ->He suggested the Republican Party’s “attitude” plays a big factor, and that they lost this year’s presidential election because of that and their repeated referring to President Obama “in such vile terms,” attempting to paint him as an “illegitimate” leader.

    – — —House Republican leaders abruptly pulled their fallback tax bill from the floor Thursday night, conceding that they did not have the votes to pass it.

“The House did not take up the tax measure today because it did not have sufficient support from our members to pass,” Speaker John A. Boehner said in a statement. “Now it is up to the president to work with Senator Reid on legislation to avert the fiscal cliff.”

The decision was a major setback for the speaker, who was pushing his so-called Plan B to prevent lower tax rates from expiring on most Americans. It came after the House had narrowly approved a plan to suspend planned Pentagon cuts.

With just days to go before more than a half trillion dollars in tax increases and spending cuts kick in, a chasm separates congressional Republicans from President Obama, even though the latest deficit offers from the president and the speaker are numerically very close.

    – — -SNIP – —
    – —The 13 Republican “no” votes on the procedural motion included members who have long been a thorn in the speaker’s side, including three members his leadership recently threw off their committees: Representatives Justin Amash of Michigan, Tim Huelskamp of Kansas and Walter Jones of North Carolina. But they also included influential conservatives like Representative Jim Jordan of Ohio, who heads the conservative Republican Study Committee, and backbenchers like Representative Trent Franks of Arizona, not known as trouble for the leadership.

Sarah Palin’s Stalkerish Obama Obsession Gets Even Weirder and More Bizarre

    By: Jason EasleyDec. 20th, 2012

President Obama’s celeb D-List stalker, Sarah Palin appeared on Fox News and gave a performance that was so weird it made Victoria Jackson and Ted Nugent look like a sanity convention.

Every once in a while it is fun to check in on the remains of what used to be Sarah Palin. (Before any of you start leaving comments about how Palin should never be written about, I agree. But just like a car crash on the side of the road, sometimes morbid curiosity gets the better of you and you just have to take a look.)

Even by Palin’s usual standard of incoherent ramblings, this one was really weird. It is obvious that the more than four years since she lost the 2008 election have done nothing to ease her bitter jealousy of President Obama. What many don’t realize is that Sarah Palin left jealous a long time ago to become this president’s D-List former celebrity stalker. She appears to be torn between bitterness, and an obsession with every move this president makes.

It seems Sarah Palin is taking that Fox News paycheck and not even making a token attempt to follow the news. She appears to be playing some bizarre word association game that only she understands. BFF Greta said more perfect union, which led Sarah on a verbal jaunt surrounded by the word constitution that made absolutely no sense. (I wonder if Fox News has a drug testing policy for on air talent?)

As strange as that was, what followed next was the most jealous, envious, and ridiculous thing ever to come out of Sarah Palin’s mouth.

She claimed that Obama did not deserve to be named Time’s Person of the Year because he hasn’t done anything.

Obama only saw the unemployment rate drop, the economy grow, ended Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell, signed a version of the Dream Act, had Obamacare ruled constitutional by the Supreme Court, and for good measure, he easily won reelection over Mitt Romney.

Boehner messed up royally when he stripped some of the TP members of chairmanships. You can’t insult your right flank and then expect them to vote for you.

He should have kicked those guys out after he got re-elected as Speaker.

Two: We are definitely going over the cliff on this. These Repubs are nuts.

    • rikyrah

Orange Julius wanted to break out the Jack Daniels so bad – right there on the House floor tonight.

    • rikyrah

this exchange earlier at BooMan had me LMAO:

      * [new] Re: Boehner Should Give Up and Resign (none / 0)

I agree, its time for Boehner to “spend more time with his family.”

I just watched the video of Cantor as he was leaving the meeting after the vote was tabled. People are labeling it the “walk of shame”, but from the smirk on Cantor’s face, I don’t think he is “shamed” at all. I think Cantor’s perfectly happy with the knife he put in Boehner’s back. He literally looks like the cat that ate the canary.

Seriously look at the video and tell me that Cantor looks doesn’t look like a cat who sees a bowl of cream right within this reach.

I’m not up on my Bible lit, but would Cantor not be Boehner’s Judas?

    • rikyrah

      Et tu, Eric?

HELL YEAH, he shived that knife in Orange Julius’ back.

    • isonprize

smug, arrogant, cocky, shit-eating grin — all of the above. Wow, dude is just too pleased with himself, isn’t he?

    • JojoRaze

You right Lamh, this ain’t no walk of shame. Cantor looked like was gonna dougie, he was so happy. He’s cool as the other side of the pillow about the entire situation. I would resist calling Cantor Boehner’s Judas since Cantor is Jewish, and the idea of Jews as Judas is an anti-Semitic trope. It’s also a nonsensical trope since Christ and the disciples were Jewish, but it seems as if Cantor really did backstab Boehner. That O’Jays song “Backstabbers” is more apt.

      • lamh36

completely forgot that Cantor was Jewish, so I never even equated Judas = Jewish, even though I have heard the trope before.

It was just the first name that came to my mind.

        • JojoRaze

I can see why it came to mind, but I was just wary about it.

Still, Cantor stuck that knife deep in Boehner’s back and is smiling about it.

    • Miranda

I thought the exact same thing. Cantor is straight jacking Boehner, in broad daylight.

    Karma? Prudence? Poetic Justice. Fate?

They wanted his Waterloo. They wanted to break him. They worked their hardest to make him a one term president. Jan 21, 2010, SCOTUS gave them the Citizen United ruling. 32 Billionaires, Fox declared 2X in 2009 and 2010 by two of their VPs that president Obama was their opposition. Ailes tried to recruit Petreaus. Murdoch was donating millions to TBGOPers. MSM joined in.

    All For what?

They hate pres Obama more than they love America,

  • rikyrah

    Nerdy Wonka @NerdyWonka

Shorter Boehner to Pres. Obama: “Screw you, I’m going with Plan B.” Shorter Pres. Obama: “Please Proceed, Mr. Speaker.”

    – —Cuba Gooding Jr., Vanessa Williams Broadway-bound – —

    – — Cuba Gooding Jr., Vanessa Williams and Condola Rashad will be joining Cicely Tyson on “The Trip to Bountiful.”

Producers said Thursday that the trio have signed up to star in a revival of Horton Foote’s moving play about acceptance and coming home. It first appeared on Broadway in 1953 and became a 1985 film starring Geraldine Page.

Tyson, who is an Academy Award nominee and is an Emmy Award winner, will now have some glittering company onstage: Gooding has an Oscar, Williams is a Tony and Emmy nominee, and Rashad has a Tony nomination for “Stick Fly.”

    – – —Paul Ryan Claims House GOP’s Latest Fiscal Cliff Scheme Doesn’t Include ‘A Single Tax Increase’

    — – – –House Republicans plan to vote tonight on their so-called “Plan B,” which would void the tax increases and spending cuts scheduled for the end of the year. Instead, the GOP’s two measures would cut spending from a series of consistent GOP punching bags — food stamps, Obamacare, and Wall Street reform among them — and then extend the Bush tax cuts on income up to $1 million.

However, Plan B would allow the lapse of several key tax credits — including expansions of the Earned Income Tax Credit and the Child Tax Credit — meaning that it would raise taxes on millions of low-income and middle-class families. The Tax Policy Center found that nearly one-quarter of Americans in the lowest income quintile would see their taxes go up by an average of $934.

    – – — -But don’t tell House Budget Committee Chairman Paul Ryan (R-WI) — fresh off his failed Vice Presidential bid — who claimed on the House floor that “there’s not a single tax increase that we’re proposing here”:

With respect to taxes, heh, what we are trying to do here is limit the damage to the taxpayer. There’s not a single tax increase that we’re proposing here, not a single. What we’re saying is, prevent as many tax increases as possible from hitting anybody in this economy. – – –[LIAR!!]

    — —Gallup: Obama’s approval at 56 percent – –

    – — – —President Obama’s approval rating has risen to 56 percent in the Gallup poll, the highest rating in the rolling survey since October of 2009.

That the president’s post-election approval continues to grow despite a failure to strike a deficit deal could be a troubling sign for House Republicans looking for leverage in the final days before the “fiscal cliff” deadline. The poll might also be evidence that the nation may be rallying behind Obama and his gun control efforts in the aftermath of last week’s school shootings in Newtown, Conn.

There remains a sharp partisan divide in the approval ratings. While 91 percent of Democrats approve of the president, 54 percent of Independents and 16 percent of Republicans say the same.
