Sandra Fluke and Elizabeth Warren did the damn thang! I thought Bill Clinton was going to accept the nomination last night. Yea it was a good speech and all but it was long as hell. Sorry still not a big Clinton fan.

    • nellcote

I’m always impressed by what a good speaker Fluke is. She has an ability similar to PBO to be calm, clear and passionate at the same time.

  • http://pragmaticobotsunite.blogspot.com/ Sepia

I really like that pic of PBO and Clinton hugging. It makes me a little misty-eyed. *sniff*

    • Miranda

Me too…………….especially seeing how it gut punched all the media at the same time.

  • http://pragmaticobotsunite.blogspot.com/ Sepia

Why are CBC flunkies always running to Politico to complain about PBO?

From early on, it was clear that “blackness was going to be something that was articulated in his skin color and in some actions like brushing the dirt off his shoulder, fist bumping with Michelle, playing basketball, going to a black barber shop,” said a senior aide to a member of the Congressional Black Caucus, and not in actively pursuing policies or programs that would only help blacks.

    • Miranda

What policy or program would ONLY help blacks? So if the policy or program disproportionately helps blacks, that doesn’t count because…oops..somebody else benefitted from it too? Weren’t all the farmers under the Pigford Settlement BLACK?

These muthafuckas make my ass itch. I CAN NOT stand these stupid ninjas.

      • Alexander2

        “ONLY help blacks”

This person is a senior aide to the CBC and doesn’t know Title VI of the Civil Rights Act?

“No person in the United States shall, on the ground of race, color, or national origin, be excluded from participation in, be denied the benefits of, or be subjected to discrimination under any program or activity receiving Federal financial assistance. ”

        http://www.justice.gov/crt/about/cor/coord/titlevistat.php

        • Miranda

I’m so sick of their stupidity. They will holler in a minute about The mini-dream act being only for Latinos as if there are no Afro-Latinos, Carribean natives and people from all over the continent of Africa benefitting from that same measure too. They will holler about same-sex marriage and DADT as if there is nam person of color that will benefit from it too. Do they NOT understand how disproportionately people in the “community” from LA to LA (Los Angelos to Lower Alabama) benefit from the ACA? I just dont understand this level of ignorance from congressional aides, I really dont.

Yeah, I had to explain that to Drawteel at JJP. He claims he’s just trying to keep the president honest, but it kinda hard to do when you’re not being honest yourself.

          Thank you!

            — – -Chasing the Dream: The Black Immigrant Experience is a three part series, written jointly by Isabel Lorenzo and Yehwroe Sinyan of the NAACP Economic Department. As children of black immigrants, we felt it was important to provide insights into the migration experiences of this unique demographic. The three articles of the series will highlight the following: 1) An introduction to the Black Immigrant 2) An evaluation of the challenges that Black Immigrants face in the 21st century, and 3) Recommendations on how all people of African descent can work collectively to advance social and economic justice in the 21st century.

The overall purpose of these pieces is to help the audience realize how universal the Black struggle is. It is our hope that through increased understanding, all people of African descent can work to build better communication channels, trust, and the spirit of collaboration to tackle the obstacles to progression.

Part I: Introduction to the Black Immigrant

Black Immigrants are foreign-born blacks that have migrated to the United States. As Continentals and representatives of the African Diaspora – which refers to the historic movement of Africans and their descendants to places outside of the African Continent, they are diverse, belonging to a plethora of nationalities, ethnicities, religious beliefs and socio-economic statuses.

Figures that Politico would roll out this bullshit. They’ve been trolling the DNC all week with no success. Now when all else fails roll out the phony ass “where’s the Black agenda?” meme. And once again we have cowardly, backstabbing negroes willing to play along with this garbage. We need Harriet Tubman and we need her now.

    • Worldwatcher7

So PBO has to pay a Blackness toll everytime he fist bumps or plays basketball? He needs to pay us for the privilege of identifying with Black people or Black culture? How much does he owe for singing Al Green? How much for eating chicken and waffles?

Do these folks actually hear themselves?

CBC politicians choose to do this. They don’t have to feed the far right’s “disappointment” narrative–they’re choosing to. Really disgusts me.

    • Admiral_Komack

‘Cause that’s where they believe they left their slippers…you know…the unleashing kind…

      • nellcote

Has Maxine Waters been seen anywhere lately?

    • GN

omg…I’m so frustrated with the CBC right now. Look, on a certain level, I do agree that some very big overt gestures to the black community may be in order–my disagreement has to do with timing. I believe that PBO can be more “unleashed” when safely ensconced within a second term than he will ever manage running a super-tight presidential contest in a reactionary country which has deep racial issues. For example, the beer summit would have never happened in term 2 in my opinion, but in term 1, with HCR on the table, it was beyond necessary. PBO is not civil rights activist in chief, he is POTUS. Am I stupid or something? How do these career politicians not get that? Not to mention, forget the spectacle, PBO has delivered the **goods**: Pigford, HBCU grants, stimulus, HCR—for people so “invested” in the black community, they sure have piled on to make sure that this brother can’t catch a damn break or get any credit for the good he’s done. CBC does not speak for me.

      • MsKitty

I believe that PBO can be more “unleashed” when safely ensconced within a second term than he will ever manage running a super-tight presidential contest in a reactionary country which has deep racial issues.

Why the CBC of all groups can’t grasp this concept is beyond me. The lot of them need to get a clue in the form of a 2×4 upside the head.

        • GN

If PBO were white, with this set of deliverables, they’d be singing his praises. It really is foul, and it really is a double standard. Two months before the election, I want to hear zero purity and concern trolling. To do otherwise is political malpractice. If there’s a conversation to be had here, now is the exact wrong time to have it.

        • AxelFoley

Exactly. If we, who are not politicians, can figure that out, why can’t they?

      • nellcote

How do these career politicians not get that?
        ===
They’re all in “safe” districts. maybe that should change.

        • AxelFoley

I’m all for sweeping they black asses out of office.

      • AxelFoley

Thank you. Like the PL, black folks like Travesty, Corny and the CBC always want a spectacle. They want theatre.

I’d rather PBO get shit done behind the scene or under the radar where his foes won’t be able to block him than for him to make some big deal about how what he’s doing helps black folks.

These so-called black leaders know that if PBO pushes something that benefits primarily or only black people, the media will scream “reverse racism!” (which is the stupidest phrase there is). But they fucking know better, they know that will happen.

The welfare lie makes a furious comeback
    By Steve Benen
    Thu Sep 6, 2012 11:20 AM EDT

    [...]

Cameron predicted that former President Clinton would take Romney “to task” over the bogus welfare claim, and asked the Republican to preemptively “react.”

“Well, I’m not sure exactly what President Clinton will say, but there’s no question that President Obama’s decision to say that we’re going to allow waivers or excuses from work requirements in welfare was designed to shore up part of his base that may not be inclined to go out and vote in the same kind of energy and passion as they did four years ago.

“And, I think putting a measure that would take work out of welfare and waiving the work requirement in welfare is an extraordinary political move on his part, and one which I disagree with. My own view is that we should have greater work requirements with welfare, not less.”

In every possible way, Romney’s simply lying, and he’s doing so in a racially-inflammatory way. The reference to the Democratic “base” is especially ridiculous — Romney is asking voters to believe the president’s most ardent supporters want welfare checks without work requirements. How subtle.

The tough days our nation faced may have caused us great pain, but they must not and will not cause us to lose our hope. Hope fills the holes of my frustration in my heart. Yay, no more PA campaign ads. I won’t have to risk doing an Elvis on my TV this year.

Romney, GOP Groups Pull Ads From Michigan and Pennsylvania

Republicans signaled this week that they might have given up hope in two important swing states.

The Romney campaign and conservative groups like Crossroads GPS have pulled TV ads in Michigan, Romney’s home state, according to the Detroit News.

Nor are the campaign and super PACs running advertising in Pennsylvania, after unleashing a barrage there over the past five months.

    • Town

Now pull your damn ads from Virginia, and we’ll be straight!

      • Aquagranny911

I’m glad they think AZ is in the bag for Repugs because we have been spared a lot of the caca ads. We plan to float our Dems into Congress while they are busy eating pancakes. We’ve got the ground game! I really think AZ should be in the “swing column” but what the Repugs don’t know will help us.

So I watched the speech by Elizabeth Warren, and like many here, I like her concepts and ideas and if I was in Mass I would def vote for her. But I”m not a Mass voters and I am also alot more dialed in to politics than the average voter and so this speech was not my first introduction to Mrs Warren, so after her speech, I tried to speak to some people who have never heard of her and their reaction was mixed at best. I was gonna try to articulate what I’d heard, but this post by DougJ over at Balloon Juice kinda summed it up:

They tell me I was born there, but I really don’t remember
    By DougJ

I watched Liz Warren’s speech with my mom, who is from Boston last night. I thought the speech was very good. My mom said “I can see why she’s losing to Scott Brown.” I said “But with that touch of Oklahoma accent, she comes across as more Real Murkin than you’d think.”

My mom said “You think they like that accent in Boston?”

For this, and other reasons, Liz Warren plays better nationally than she does in Massachusetts. If she loses in November, it doesn’t mean that her message and persona don’t work on a bigger stage.

I think I agree the most with the statement: ..Liz Warren plays better nationally than she does in Massachusetts.

This is not to say that I don’t think Liz can’t gonna win this thing, but something’s gotta break. I hoping that sometime soon POTUS and Bill Clinton and FLOTUS will be campaigning in Mass along with Liz Warren to rally the troops (POTUS & FLOTUS can do that) and rally those white working men who for whatever reason seem prefer Scott Brown over Warren (Bill Clinton can definitely help with that).

As for me, I’ll admit, I give most of my money to OfA, but I may just have to give some to Liz Warren too so that they can have a good war chest to GOTV and hopefully start showing ads that hammer Brown for the GOP “war on women” which I think is the best thing to do. Wrap the GOP Congress dismal polls number with women and there radical record around Scott Brown’s neck.

    • GN

To me, she comes across as one of those super-duper smart people who is so humble, she doesn’t realize that she’s smarter than 99% of the population, and ppl are not just being assholes in not “getting” her, some people really cannot manage. I’m not a consultant, and I don’t know what is to be done in terms of letting her be herself, yet crafting a side of herself which can bend down and talk to voters on the level which some of them are simply on. My non-professional opinion. But I watched her, and I see why the boyish, good time, kinda idiotic Scott Brown is beating her too.

      • TyrenM

The Professor is gonna have to come hard and fast come debate time. Boston need to get with the program. There’s no way in hell a wall street puppet should be holding Teddy’s Seat.

A Tennessee Case Study in Defunding Planned Parenthood

In November 2011, officials in Shelby County, Tennessee decided to defund its local Planned Parenthood, taking away the $397,000 in state funding to the Memphis chapter. The Obama administration responded in July 2012 by awarding family planning funds directly to Planned Parenthood Greater Memphis, but it’s worth noting what happened to all that state money that didn’t go to Planned Parenthood in the meantime.

Local officials decided that instead of giving that Title X money to Planned Parenthood for health screenings, STD tests, and birth control, they’d instead give it to Christ Community Health Services, a religious organization that refuses to provide abortions or refer women to others who would provide them. The organization also does not offer emergency contraception, and is reportedly looking to expand to create more “crisis pregnancy clinics” that offer “counselors who can discuss adoption and other life-affirming options” with women.

But it turns out that Christ Community Health Services has not been nearly as efficient at using Title X funds to provide family planning services, reports the Memphis Flyer (via Women’s Health News).

Good morning all. Miranda I broke down and bought me a corioliss flat iron lol. And I must say it is the business I played with it at 12:30 in the morning, and I love it. It gives you shine and bounce, I gotta hide it from my daughter lol. Also it seems the fake early registration is being handled so all is right in my world.

edit: I forgot to say the box it came in was so nice it’s like a case.

Ooh so that’s why the polish is so pricey. I must treat myself next payday lol.

          • Miranda

I started getting gel polish because it really does last a good 3 weeks minimum, it DOES NOT CHIP and I’ve always only had my natural nails done since they are strong and grow fairly fast. The gel polish is a extra $20 on top of the manicure but its worth it since it really never chips! And it takes 5 minutes to dry and its completely dry. Only problem is…it is HELL to get off and you can only get it off AT a nail salon.

          • Alma98

            Thanks Miranda.

    Romney on Cusp of Defeat

    by BooMan

After I saw it reported that Romney and his associated Super PACs are pulling out of Michigan and Pennsylvania, I had to go look up when McCain gave up on Michigan in 2008. I remembered the decision because Sarah Palin responded by going deeply off-message…

The date that article was published? October 3, 2008…

By pulling out of Pennsylvania and Michigan so early, Romney has lost any margin of error. He can only win now by the narrowest of margins. He is literally on the cusp of defeat.

    • Admiral_Komack

Anyone in the MSM gonna ask Ann Romney about Willard pulling out?

I got to admit I was nervous as a puta at 6am Mass over what Bill Clinton might say but he brought the goods home for PBO. Even if he was enjoying the limelight a tad too much, he skewered Robme/lying Ryan & the GOP in that down home folksy way of his. Even the limited low info voter should be able to understand this. I still don’t like old Billy very much but I will give him a gold star on his forehead for this one.

Sandra Fluke is a real charmer with a career in politics if she wants it. The Rushbutt messed with the wrong young woman. She gave a great speech!
The thing that just cracks me up is that this Chica that was cast by Rush & Co as a “slut” etc looks & dresses like she just stepped out of a church pew. She could be “Everyman’s” sweet daughter & she’s smart!

I love Elizabeth Warren. She’s getting criticism but I thought she gave a great speech. Her delivery was a bit ragged & I think she was nervous but her words were strong. I read the transcript after & her words were strong. MA will be total fools to take Scott Brown over this decent hard working woman just because he’s a pretty boy with a glib lying tongue.

Emanuel Cleaver…What can I say? PREACH, Brother! He had everyone in that hall on their feet shouting Hope On! I was just waiting for the collection basket to be passed. He was fiery & passionate for PBO.

The real surprise for me was Cristina Saralegui. I didn’t realize she was scheduled to speak. She is very popular with Latinos. I like her she’s funny & can be very pithy at times. I really enjoyed her speech.

So the RNC had Artur Davis and DNC has Charlie Crist. In this corner, we have Artur Davis who turned his back on a “personal friend” (that what he called Obama once) and rolled over the main constituency in Alabama that put him into office in the first place and who has so blown up that level of suport that he had to move to Virgina and become a Republican to find anyone willing to “support” him (I’d say actually just to use him). And in this corner, we have Charlie Crist, a former governor who yes, lost his bid for Sentate, but who still has high regards from mainstream GOP voters in Florida (“Crist Republicans”) and who has a higher approval than the current teabagger GOP governor of Florida.

So Crist vs Artur…yeah, my money’s on having Crist speak being way better to even having Artur read a paper.

    • Miranda

Like Roland said on TJMS, if you mention Artur Davis name in Alabama, either a) have a weapon and be ready to use it or b) before you say his name state you are getting ready to say the name of somebody you don’t like yourself so that you don’t get your ass whupped. Artur is disliked LIKE THAT. Elderly mothers of the church will thrown down their little purse and toss the wig to the side to get ready to knock out anyone that dare utter his name unless it is followed by a wad of spit.

Romney camp’s worst nightmarE? Clinton To Tour Midwest For Obama

An itinerary for the president’s most effective supporter.

Methinks that Romney “Clinton” ad from this morning was probably not a great idea.

  • Miranda

    So much fail…so little time

Disillusioned Obama Supporter In Romney Ad Is Actually GOP Staffer

Republicans debuted a new ad Thursday in which a frustrated former Obama supporter expresses her disappointment with the president. The only problem: The woman in the video is actually an RNC staffer.

    more here
    http://2012.talkingpointsmemo.com/2012/09/rnc-staffer-plays-obama-supporter-in-gop-ad.php

    • GN

The whole “disappointed” “disillusioned” thing is a CON and a HUSTLE invented for and by the far right as a means to make sure that PBO is never credited for anything, and to make the perfect the enemy of the good works which he and Dems have done. I saw numerous lefty new media spaces relentlessly trolled until people parroted this narrative as the conventional wisdom. The Professional Left is extremely weak, and very susceptible to GOP framing about Democratic politicians, which they tend to repeat rather than challenge. We saw them pile on with the right about Democratic legislation, panning it “from the left” using the same character attacks on PBO.

I’m with everyone else in that I spent 2008/2009 pissed off at the Clintons, but Hillary has been an excellent SoS, and last night, Bill hit “reset” on the entire narrative that PBO has been a bitter failure who deserves only grudging support, if any. Threw a grenade on it in a very effective presentation. If Dems follow that lead and are successful with educating the public about the reality of the stimulus, of healthcare reform, of the auto bailouts, it’s lights out for that Vulture/Voucher2012 ticket. The DNC has been masterful with regards to doing just that, everything from the positivity and exuberance of the crowd, to the excellently messaged speeches. So excited for tonight!

      • Miranda

Last night Bill basically told the GOP and emoprogs “sorry, I aint going out like that.” He wants his legacy with the Dems intact and so he got behind PBO and said “let’s do this”.

        • nellcote

          by any means necessary…

      • Aquagranny911

Totally agree about Hillary. She has done us proud as SOS. The deep respect & regard she has for PBO shines through whenever they are together. My issues with Bill, aside, he also done us all proud last night with no hesitation in his full on support of PBO.

This convention has shown Democrats how we need to do it. It’s been powerful & cohesive message. I am also anticipating tonight with great excitement.

      • sagenotsweet

I really enjoyed Clinton’s speech and I have much respect for the job that Hillary has done as SOS.

My negative reaction is how this is being portrayed in the media rehashing of events. Probably not too important because the average voter does not obsess over things the way that we political junkies do.

This is just an interesting little tid bit. I watched the “roll call” of states last night because I like that part of the convention too. I enjoy hearing each state’s pride in itself.

Cece Goldwater (Barry’s granddaughter) gave the words for our AZ delegation. She was nervous & flubbed it a bit but I was happy to see that she was given that honor.

She & her mother came out strong in support of PBO awhile back. They had some scathing words to say about the Republican party, the teapotty & Robme. Even if I didn’t agree with him I always respected Barry Goldwater. He did have integrity. He cared deeply about Arizona & the Goldwater family has given generously to this state. I was glad to see that his progeny still had the same basic decency.

Federal judge orders Ohio’s Husted back to court

    By Steve Benen
    Thu Sep 6, 2012 12:34 PM EDT.

Last week, a federal judge ordered Ohio Secretary of State Jon Husted (R) to leave the state’s early-voting window open for all of the state’s eligible voters, overturning a Republican law approved last year. Husted’s next step should have been, obviously, establishing expanded hours for early voting and setting a statewide schedule.

But Husted had other ideas. On Tuesday, the Republican official, who helps oversee Ohio’s elections process, said he intended to ignore the court ruling until after an appeal.

I’m not an attorney, but it’s my understanding that federal courts get a little peeved when someone tries to ignore their decisions.

The welfare lie makes a furious comeback
    By Steve Benen
    Thu Sep 6, 2012 11:20 AM EDT.

On Tuesday, I was pleased to report the Romney/Ryan welfare lie, which falsely accuses President Obama of “gutting” existing welfare law and “dropping work requirements,” had suddenly disappeared. After weeks of constant repetition, the Republicans’ ridiculous, racially-charged attack had vanished.

Regrettably, it appears I spoke too soon. Paul Ryan, reinforcing his “Lyin’ Ryan” moniker, brought the lie back yesterday in Iowa, and a few hours later, Romney himself pushed the lie after being prompted by Fox News’ Carl Cameron.

Cameron predicted that former President Clinton would take Romney “to task” over the bogus welfare claim, and asked the Republican to preemptively “react

Obama, Clinton, and future presidential rankings

The sublime irony of today’s prevailing discussions of President Obama’s “rescue”–just in the nick of time–by President Clinton is an obvious one, perhaps too obvious to qualify as true “irony,” but which I’ll qualify anyway. And the irony is this:

In roughly 10 years, Obama, I would wager, will be ranked by presidential historians as “near great,” while Clinton will retain his ranking of “average.” In 50 years, Obama well may achieve “great” status, joining the likes of Franklin Roosevelt; Clinton, however, will remain average, as average as Taft.

Some of Obama’s “greatness” will emerge from the deliberate and determined: healthcare reform, for example, was, until Obama, a mere presidential aspiration for a century–now it’s the groundwork for achieving true universal coverage and a vital overhaul of America’s insanely expensive healthcare system. Dramatic improvements in that system will take years to materialize and be recognized by historians, however, just as the long-term benefits of Obama’s deliverance of the auto industry or pulling us from the brink of another Great Depression will settle in the historical mind only over time, lots of time.

And Obama, almost certainly, still has another term to go, one in which he also may well preside over the total disintegration of the nearly two-century-old Republican Party.

    • nellcote

Somebody on msnbc made the observation that the good stuff Clinton did (budget deficit) was trashed by Bush in 2 years but the bad stuff (DADT/Glass Steigel/Welfare “reform”) lived on. While the good stuff PBO’s done (ACA/green energy etc) are long term things that will live on after he’s in office.

      • sagenotsweet

GOP Hatchet Man Throws in Towel

    by BooMan
Thu Sep 6th, 2012 at 11:22:37 AM EST

Whatever else you might want to say about Bill Clinton’s speech, it broke the spirit of CNN contributor Alex Castellanos. Here is his immediate on-air response to Clinton’s performance:

CASTELLANOS: I would recommend to my friend Paul [Begala] here, tonight when everybody leaves, lock the doors. You don’t have to come back tomorrow. This convention is done. This will be the moment that probably re-elected Barack Obama. Bill Clinton saved the Democratic Party once, it was going too far left, he came in, the New Democrats took it to the center. He did it again tonight.

In case you are unfamiliar with Castellanos’ body of work, he is most famous for creating the most blatantly racist political ad of the last several decades. This was the white hands ad used by Jesse Helms during his 1990 reelection campaign.

    http://www.boomantribune.com/

    • gc

It was not going too far left. I appreciate what BC did, but I resent the implication that he (white HE) SAVED Black Obama.

      • MsKitty

You noticed that too, huh? That seems to be the meme du jour.

      • Ebogan63

Those Politico assholes on CSPAN for the DNC wrap-up were echoing this bullshit meme. And, for the record: the DLC was responsible for losing elections. BHO has charted a pragmatic progressive vision for the party, and THAT is what ‘saved’ the party.

        • nellcote

I watched about 5 minutes of that. Just disgusting. And then I remembered it was Politico. In that sense it was revealing.

        • Camille

          Amen!

Anything that says “Politico” on it, instantly loses any credibility.

    • nellcote

I guess he’s missed that THIS convention, PBO’s convention has embraced it’s platform whole heartedly including gay rights, women’s right to choose, economic fairness etc. that in past years were either ignored or downplayed. I’m really proud of the Dems this year.

    • sagenotsweet

Chris Matthews is running with that today. Somehow or other a man who has never even attempted a campaign anywhere is advising the Axelrod/Plouffe crew that locally elected Democratic officials (with all the limitations that entails) should be out all over the country advocating for the President.

This campaign with only a few small slips has been very disciplined. This has been the Obama way so no surprised there. Matthews and them want the thrill of gossiping about political things rather than talking about policy. It’s what DC thrives on.

Even when there are no real slips they try to stir one up as in the Biden chains comment.

I was happy that Matthews felt some need to talk about race but I knew that he would be right back to the patronizing comments about the Obama campaign in a day or two.

    • Camille

How shameful the media sits on the sidelines preening and schmoozing and looking to be bought and co-opted by the highest bidder instead of accurately investigating and reporting as their profession has been charged, to ensure that all Americans are kept informed and given the chance to be an informed electorate.

Instead, we get a situation where years of deliberate misinformation and dis-information reign supreme, and are left uncorrected while a complicit and mediocre media sleeps around and instead auditions to be mistress to and for beauty pageant roles to the corporate owners who control them and get their cheap thrills while lining their pockets but jerking around and treating the American citizenry to a trumped up horserace intent on destroying our Union and democracy.

There is no reason why it should take a speech from a former president for basic truths that every single one of us here already know and have repeated often, to be acknowledged by a media that should have been reporting these truths all along.

Nothing that was said last night in that speech was new or “political”. It was information that every American should have had already if our media had done their job.

But they still don’t get it.

Instead of feeling shame for abdicating their roles and outsourcing it to party surrogates, or their abject failure in meeting their responsibilities, the media sits around still toying with our lives, alternately playing footsie with their Corporate benefactors and Russian roulette with our Union and our democracy.

There is something wrong with the media sitting on their arses sipping champagne, smoking their cigars and marveling at Bill Clinton’s speech and its content which if they had been doing their jobs at all, would not have been quite the revelation they’d like us to believe it was.

It should have all been common knowledge – for all Americans and courtesy of the media in their role as the fourth estate.

Remember when he fact checked Capeheart in a live appearance (Capeheart was right) and the youngster was gracious enough to let the old guy go with his misinformation?

There was another more recent example where Brokaw corrected someone again in a live MSNBC appearance and he was wrong and the younger person was correct. He caught it and apologized that time.

I used to be a fan of his way, way back in the day. Since he came up with his always backwards looking view of things, I changed my mind. A couple of years ago he just seemed rather bitter, now he is clearly losing his mental sharpness.

    • Camille

Sorry, but like I’ve said before, Tom Brokaw should just retire permanently and just go away never to be heard from.

He’s done enough damage and we just can’t afford him and his brand of “journalism” any longer.

Brokaw not only deliberately misinforms, but he has been responsible for elevating and installing some of the worst excuses for “journalists” and “styles” like David Gregory.

We just can’t have the next generation of journalists and our news media fashioned in the image of Tom Brokaw and his style.

Our Union and our democracy can’t afford it and won’t survive it.

VA Chief: Obama Best President For Vets Since FDR

Secretary of Veterans Affairs Eric Shinseki said at the Democratic National Convention on Wednesday that President Barack Obama has done more for veterans than any president since Franklin Delano Roosevelt.

“We could not ask for a stronger advocate. We’ve made tremendous progress under this president’s leadership. But there is much more to be done for the men and women who guarantee our way of life. They have served selflessly—with unmatched valor, sacrifice, and distinction. And President Obama is determined that we will repay the debt we owe them,” Shinseki said.

New Strategy Vindicates Ex-Army Chief Shinseki
      [...]
First vilified, then marginalized by the Bush administration after those comments, General Shinseki retired and faded away, even as lawmakers, pundits and politicians increasingly cited his prescience.

“We never had enough troops to begin with,” Senator Lindsey Graham, a South Carolina Republican, said just before the president’s televised address. “A month or two ago we found out the Army is broken, and they agreed that General Shinseki was right.”
      [...]
The acknowledgment was far different from the harsh [Bush] administration rebuttals after General Shinseki electrified Washington with his blunt warning that victory in Iraq would require more troops than were being deployed for the invasion. [...]

ADP Jobs Report DESTROYS Expectations, 201K New Jobs Surpasses All Estimates

Deaths Fell in States That Expanded Medicaid, Study Shows

Expanding U.S. state Medicaid programs may contribute to reduced death rates, as the poor, elderly and other vulnerable people benefit from greater access to health care, Harvard University researchers said in a report.
