Sorry but that map still makes me drip a tear or two that AZ is not also Deep Blue. We did try really hard.

MR and PR were played by GOP operative. Its the only explanation I keep coming whenever I read about their ‘shock’. Those people knew that the Obama machine was no joke in 2008 and that he had only gotten better.

This by buzzfeed is really cute. It’s a picture timeline of the Obama girls from his first Senate campaign to Election night.

It’s amazing how much they’ve grown in just these past 4 years.

And just think by the time he leaves office in 4 years, Malia will be off to college and Sasha will be in high school.

The Sasha And Malia Obama Aging Timeline http://bzfd.it/Z0EB8p

    • BoomerGal

Thanks I enjoyed that! Too cute!!

    • JojoRaze

I love those photos but these are my two favorite. The one when Cheney swore him for the Senate in 200 where Sasha was under the Bible. Even Darth Cheney had a heart when he saw Sasha.

And this is my absolute favorite:Maya Soetero-Ng’s wedding picture with Sasha grabbing her Daddy’s leg like a G, looking like “This wedding is nice and all, but don’t ever separate me from my Daddy!”

      • qosine

Wonderful pic – love Sasha’s expression and stance.

      • Aquagranny911

Great share! Love how the little ones grab onto your leg. My youngest was such a Mama’s girl that I could literally walk around with her clinging to my leg when she was that age.

      • edp4bho

“…..swore him for the Senate in 200 where Sasha was under the Bible.”

I couldn’t dare type that demon’s name, but if you go to You Tube for this event, Sasha skips into the chambers and continues to prance, and then waves to the cameras. I adore that video. I’ll see if I can find it. She’s still the little charmer.

        • conlakappa

          Sasha also high-fived Darth.

    • Gc

A loving all-American family. If only people weren’t so stupid, they would see that. Today a teacher I respected was appalled at my voting for Obama. This was not exactly racism. I see her with the KOC (kids of color) and know her heart. This was the old fashioned Repubs represent America – socialism- blah, blah, blah. I told her we would agree to disagree, but seethed the rest of the day.Or maybe it was in part racism, but not the larger part. There is a group of people in the burbs who don’t particularly care what race Obama is, they just do not want anything to change economically for them, and they see Obama as facilitating this. Made me sad though. My inner child wanted to tell her that the principle we both work for, and she respects in a major Lib. Would have blown her mind. But she’s a great aide to me. How do people work at jobs in which they are surrounded by Thugs? I did not do well with ONE!

      • conlakappa

I think it is a form of racism–she can only relate to blacks and browns when operating from a position of authority and directing them. I see this plenty.

        • Gc

I thought this over after I got home and reached the same conclusion. Sigh…

    – – – –Mitt Romney was “shellshocked” at losing the presidential race, an adviser tells CBS News.

“They thought intensity and enthusiasm were on their side this time — poll after poll showed Republicans were more motivated to vote than Democrats – and that would translate into votes for Romney. As a result, they believed the public/media polls were skewed — they thought those polls oversampled Democrats and didn’t reflect Republican enthusiasm. They based their own internal polls on turnout levels more favorable to Romney. That was a grave miscalculation, as they would see on election night.”

Said the adviser: “We went into the evening confident we had a good path to victory. I don’t think there was one person who saw this coming.”

    – – –Another staffer added: “There’s nothing worse than when you think you’re going to win, and you don’t. It was like a sucker punch.”

What competent campaign operation does this? If they’re shellshocked this is a big reason why. They underestimated the Obama GOTV operation and it bit them in the butt…big time.

      • Ebogan63

Kenny, they read Gallup and all those bs LV screen polls like it was the gospel, and bought into the MSM bullshit about ‘dems not as enthusiastic’ and the racist bullshit about ‘blacks and latinos not turning out’ As we all stated: 2008 was historic, 2012 was fucking personal!!

        • Aquagranny911

“2008 was historic, 2012 was fucking personal!!”

Shrimper Morris tried to claim that he was basing his predictions on 2008 numbers. We inow he’s lazy so I more suspect he looked at 2004 numbers or, worse yet, back when he worked for Clinton.

    • lamh36

Damn, this mofo really thought he had it in the bag. They really DIDN’T write a concession speech. The whole group really bought into the hype. Here’s the thing. The Romney camp and the whole of the GOP, underestimated the Obama camp ground game. The thought they could do the same demonizing of social groups as they did in 2000 & 2004 (all those gay marriage amendments, Karl Rove convinced so many state legislatures to put on the ballot). They underestimated the black, brown, young, and women voters who were damn well pissed that the GOP was trying to take their votes away, trying to get them to “self-deport” or tried to take away a woman’s right to choice whether or not she wants to carry her rapist/molester/deadbeat/whatever’s baby. They forgot the number one rule when it comes to poking a lion: AT SOME POINT, THE LION WILL STRIKE BACK. In the case of this election, the LIONS savaged the shit out of Romney!!!

  • Jesse Jackson Jr. in plea deal talks with feds, sources say

Sneed has learned U.S. Rep. Jesse Jackson Jr., who handily won re-election Tuesday despite a lengthy stay at Mayo Clinic for depression and bipolar disorder, is in the midst of plea discussions with the feds probing his alleged misuse of campaign funds.

“No one has pled guilty, but plea discussions are ongoing,” said a top Sneed source, who said Jackson is still undergoing treatment at Mayo Clinic.

Sneed is also told Jackson, who returned to Mayo Clinic after undergoing outpatient treatment in the seclusion of his home in Washington, D.C., is not only being investigated for allegedly using campaign funds to decorate his Washington home — but also Sneed hears he may also have used campaign funds to buy a $40,000 Rolex watch as a gift for a female friend.

40K for a watch? Wow!! that is about $10,000 more than I make in an entire year.

  • JojoRaze

Great NYT article from Obama’s chief pollster:

My take-away was that PBO was right to set the campaign in Chicago and not DC to get away from the beltway media; PBO resides in reality. He didn’t think reelection was guaranteed so he hired people that showed him how to make a $1 out of 15 cents. Three: he made the election about the middle class’s needs and tailored attacks on that.

    • Ebogan63

Jojo, this is what I take from that article, cuz I got tired of Greg Sargent’s bullshit:”Two key data points illustrate why Americans were always far more open to President Obama’s message and accomplishments than commentators assumed. By a three to one margin (74 percent to 23 percent), voters said that what the country faced since 2008 was an “extraordinary crisis more severe than we’ve seen in decades” as opposed to “a typical recession that the country has every several years.” At the same time, a clear majority, 57 percent, believed that the problems we faced after the crisis were “too severe for anyone to fix in a single term,” while only 4 in 10 voters believed another president would have been able to do more than Mr. Obama to get the economy moving in the past four years.”

Elections are always about choices, not ‘referendums’ and folks did not buy bullshit that ‘Rmoney was better on the economy’ and ‘were open to his ‘ideas'(whatever the fuck they were)

A well run campaign ALWAYS has better polls than the public/MSM ones. Period. People who don’t know that should find a different hobby.

      • qosine

Thank you about Greg Sargent. Good breakdown, Ebogan.

  • These media journos/pundunces need to stop. Prior to the election, their talking point had been Romney had a chance to beat PBO, that the election would be close. Now, they’re acting like they always knew Romney would lose:

Boehner: ‘Obamacare Is The Law Of The Land’
By Tara Culp-Ressler on Nov 8, 2012 at 5:22 pm

As ABC News reports, House Speaker John Boehner (R-OH) has confirmed that the House GOP will no longer attempt to repeal the Affordable Care Act. When asked about the future of the health care reform law, Boehner said “the election changes that” and “Obamacare is the law of the land.”

Boehner’s office is softening the Speaker’s comments:

    Speaker John Boehner @SpeakerBoehner

Vegas Employer: Obama Won, So I Fired 22 Employees
    November 7, 2012 11:09 PM

LAS VEGAS (CBS Las Vegas) — A Las Vegas business owner with 114 employees fired 22 workers today, apparently as a direct result of President Obama’s re-election.

“David” (he asked to remain anonymous for obvious reasons) told Host Kevin Wall on 100.5 KXNT that “elections have consequences” and that “at the end of the day, I need to survive.”

“I explained to them a month ago that if Obama gets in office that the regulations for Obamacare are gonna hurt our business, and I’m gonna have to make provisions to make sure I have enough money to cover the payroll taxes, the additional health care I’m gonna have to do, and I explained that to them and I said you do what you feel like in your heart you need to do, but I’m just letting you know as a warning this is things I have to think of as a business owner.

McAuliffe tells Dems he’s running for governor

Terry McAuliffe’s head fakes about his widely presumed 2013 run for governor have come to an end.

The Northern Virginia businessman is now formalizing plans for his second gubernatorial bid and has begun the process of phoning key Democrats to inform them of his plans.

One who received a call today is Hampton Mayor Molly Ward.

A McAuliffe supporter, Ward said he contacted her to confirm his plans to run and advised her U.S. Sen. Mark Warner had “given him the green light” to proceed.

McAuliffe’s outreach comes two days after Warner told reporters he would decide by Thanksgiving whether he’d seek another term as Virginia governor.

    – — –Three days after being re-elected, President Barack Obama will deliver a statement on the economy Friday, two administration officials said Thursday.

The 1:05 p.m. ET statement in the East Room will serve as an opportunity to address some of the big issues that Washington will tackle in the next few months – including staving off the so-called fiscal cliff – and to outline his priorities moving forward.

I want to comment about the Rove “meltdown.” and other things on the election.
I saw the meltdown live. I thought it was strange Rove was going on about Ohio because at this time in the election PBO didn’t need Ohio to win.
I turned to MSNBC and Lawrence was commenting on how Rove knows elections, and he (Rove) may be right for questioning the call. I thought that was strange.
I do think something else was going on at the time. Something was supposed to be happening somewhere else in this country. It didn’t happen.
I do believe Romney was shell shocked because “the fix” that was supposed to be in didn’t materialize.
I find it strange that Florida was not called until today. How many votes are not counted? How many people in Florida and Ohio were disinfranchised? Virginia, North Carolina etc etc.
What happened to African Americans in this election was a travesty. It was disgusting. Black people/ urban people/whatever the name they give us were targeted by Romney/GOP to suppress/stop our vote. They need to be held accountable for their schemes.
Black people showed out, showed up and never shut up.
Where are the calls for Romney/ GOP accountabilty for the voting disaster they created?
Again, Black “leaders” lose their voice.
Sorry for the rant, but I am sort of pissed off.

Election protection type organizations reports, while Rove and Romney campaign sought delays, vote tallies for Obama in within various counties in Ohio were changing. A permit filed with the City of Boston said the detonation could occur any time between 7 p.m. Tuesday, just after the first polls closed, and 12:30 a.m. Wednesday, which ended up being just before Romney conceded the race.

‘There is some holy hell to pay’
    By Steve Benen

I’ve never fully understood how Karl Rove developed a reputation as a strategic genius.

In 2000, it was Rove’s idea to keep George W. Bush in California in the campaign’s waning days, instead of stumping in key battleground states. Bush lost California by a wide margin, and Rove’s strategy practically cost his candidate the election.

In 2006, after nearly getting indicted, Rove’s sole responsibility was overseeing the Republican Party’s 2006 election strategy. He told NPR in late October that he’d found a secret math that gives him insights that mere mortals can’t comprehend, and soon after, Democrats won back both chambers of Congress in a historic victory.

And then there’s this year, when Rove’s Republican attack operation spent nearly $400 million and lost just about every race it contested — not to mention Rove’s on-air tantrum that’s already become the stuff of legend.

I think it’s safe to say the bloom is off the rose.

    Sikh-Americans elated over Obama victory

Elated over the re-election of U.S. President Barack Obama, Sikh-Americans have said his victory is “especially great” for them because he has demonstrated in the last four years that he has deep respect for their faith.

“We are pleased with the results of these hard-fought elections,” Rajwant Singh, Chairman of the Sikh Council on Religion and Education (SCORE), said.

This is “especially great” for the Sikhs because Mr. Obama has demonstrated in the last four years that he has deep respect for the Sikh faith, he said.

Mr. Obama has strong commitment to protect the civil rights of the Sikhs in the US and has gone an extra mile to stand by the community in the aftermath of the Wisconsin gurdwara shooting that killed six worshippers in August, Mr. Singh said.

The President had also lowered the US flags, an unprecedented step, to convey the message of solidarity and sympathy of the entire nation for the Wisconsin Sikh victims, he said.

Mr. Obama was the first US President to host the celebrations of Guru Nanak Dev’s birth anniversary at the White House, Mr. Singh noted.

“We are hopeful that the President will guide this nation to financial solvency and will tackle the critical issues of immigration reform and climate change,” he said.

Darshan Singh Sehbi, a Sikh physician from the battleground state of Ohio, said that for ages to come, Mr. Obama, through his achievements, will remain a beacon of hope and inspiration for people around the world, showing them the path of honesty, openness and perseverance.

Dawinder ‘Dave’ S Sidhu, an assistant professor of law at the University of New Mexico School of Law, said the Sikh community received an outpouring of support in the aftermath of the shooting at the Wisconsin gurdwara.

“President Obama, the First Lady and Attorney General Eric Holder, in particular, should be commended for their efforts in helping the community recover from this terrible tragedy,” he said.

Rove accuses Dems of ‘suppressing the vote’
    By Steve Benen
    Thu Nov 8, 2012 3:30 PM EST

I wouldn’t ordinarily focus on Karl Rove twice in one afternoon, but this latest development suggests the Republican strategist is losing it.

Hmm. So now we’re to believe Obama was “suppressing the vote.” It reminds me of Rove complaining in June that Democrats are “trying to take their wallet and buying” the election — while he raised millions from billionaires so he could buy the election.

But putting that aside, this notion that negative ads constitute voter “suppression” is important because it’s crazy.

On the one hand, we see Rove’s party, which spent two years imposing the most sweeping new voting restrictions seen in the United States since Jim Crow, targeting likely Democratic constituencies. On the other hand, we see the president, who ran television commercials that criticized his opponent.

One party engaged in voter suppression through legal disenfranchisement, while the other party shaping its message to maximize the electoral impact. For someone to see these as comparable is to strip the word “suppression” of any sensible meaning.

Hampden-Sydney College reports post-election racial unrest RICHMOND, Va. Howard is the college’s first African-American president. He said in the email that he was disappointed in the “harmful, senseless episode” and that bigotry has no place on the campus of 1,080. – – – –What Right-Wing Attack Groups Got For $228,646,000 — –

    – —Three months ago, ThinkProgress ran a series of profiles on several prominent right-wing attack groups that were promising to spend tens of millions of dollars — much of it raised and spent in secret, thanks to Citizens United — to unseat key Democrats across the country. Each group had its own list of target races that they would devote their considerable resources to.

With the dust finally settling after Election Day, ThinkProgress took a look back to see how effective these groups’ collective spending was at unseating Democrats from Congress and the White House.

The answer, it turns out, is not very effective at all. Despite outspending left-leaning SuperPACs and interest groups by a margin greater than 2 to 1, conservative organizations spent election night watching the Democratic majority expand in the Senate, the Republican majority shrink in the House, and President Obama win a second term convincingly. A ThinkProgress analysis of public spending records suggests that 75 percent of Democrats targeted by the biggest right-wing groups won their elections on Tuesday.

    – —Former Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords, partially blind, her right arm paralyzed and limp, came face to face Thursday with the man who tried to kill her last year, standing beside her husband as he spoke of her struggles to recover from being shot in the head.

“Her life has been forever changed. Plans she had for our family and her career have been immeasurably altered,” said astronaut Mark Kelly, both he and his wife staring at the shooter inside a packed courtroom. “Every day is a continuous struggle to do those things she once was so good at.”

Jared Lee Loughner, 24, was then ordered to serve seven consecutive life sentences, plus 140 years in federal prison for the January 2011 shooting rampage that killed six people and wounded 13 others, including Giffords, outside a grocery store in Tucson, Ariz.

Loughner pleaded guilty under an agreement that guarantees he will spend the rest of his life in prison without the possibility of parole. He avoids a federal death sentence, although state prosecutors could still decide to try him.

    — –The Story of “Fired up! Ready to go!” – Obama for America 2012 – —

    – – –Edith S. Childs is the one that got Barack Obama fired up.

While attending a small campaign event in Greenwood, South Carolina, then-Senator Obama first heard the chant “Fired up! Ready to Go!”.

As then-Senator Obama shared in his pre-election night speech in Virginia:

“After a minute or so I’m feeling kind of fired up. I’m feeling like I’m ready to go! So I joined in the chant. And it feels good.

And for the rest of the day, even after we left Greenwood, I’d see my staff and I’d say,

    ‘Are you fired up?’

They’d say ‘We’re fired up boss. Are you ready to go?’

I’d say, ‘I’m ready to go.’

So some people start putting ‘Fired up! Ready to go!’ on their shirts. Some people start putting ‘Fired up! Ready to go!’ on signs. Everybody’s saying ‘Fired up!’ and ‘Ready to go!’

It shows you what one voice can do. One voice can change a room. And if a voice can change a room it can change a city. And if it can change a city it can change a state. And if it can change a state it can change the nation. And if it can change the nation it can change the world.
