    Evening guys.

Alright, had to make groceries, but made it home in just enough time to watch the wedding episode of “A Different World”. Favorite parts: Ron having DeWayne’s back, Diahnn Carroll “die just die”, and of course “please baby please”!

    • AxelFoley

Already happened to me. I didn’t see it in person, but it happened.

Love sucks, so I won’t expose my heart to it again.

      • isonprize

DAMN. Axel, awwwwwww. DAMN, dude. that’s really jacked.

        Seriously, we only all know each other ‘virtually’ but I feel you and I know that had to be messed up. {{{{{Axel}}}}}

Never say never, though. At least consider the idea of being open to love again.

(whispering…… just consider it, is all I’m sayin…)

        • AxelFoley

I must attract the wrong kind of women who like to play games or can’t make up their minds.

Ex-wife did me wrong. Then ex-girlfriend did the same years later.

I dunno. I took the bumps and the bruises of all the things of a two-time loser. Tried to hold on, but my faith is gone, so it’s just another sad song. So I think I better let it go.

Hey, that was kinda catchy. If only someone could put those lines in a song.

          • isonprize

            you stoopid…. LOLOL

open, just stay open, if only just a little bit…

          • Camille

If you close your heart and shut out love because of the two women who were entirely wrong for you, then THEY win.

They not only win, but also succeed in depriving you of the love and devotion you were meant to have and share with THE ONE.

Don’t let them hurt and disappoint you and then also cause you to shut out the great love that awaits you.

She’s out there Axe, and you’ll only see her if you’ve not shut down and are completely open to her.

Your family here is rooting for you.

Go for it Axe – you’ll be glad you did!!

          • TyrenM

Dude! U wrong. I just know TP wrote that for ME. Have a good nite.
Besides. It ain’t over. Its not over. The parties not ova.

A pastor in Connecticut has apologized for taking part in a vigil for the victims of the shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School because his church does not allow worshiping with other faiths.

Rev. Rob Morris of Newtown’s Christ the King Lutheran Church offered a letter of apology after he was reprimanded by church president Matthew Harrison for “joint worship with other religions,” according to the Religion News Service.

Obama nominates openly gay lawyer for patent appeals court

(Reuters) – President Barack Obama nominated Thursday an openly gay attorney to serve on the U.S. appeals court for patent cases after a previous gay nominee for that court stalled.

Todd Hughes, a lawyer in the Department of Justice’s civil division, was nominated for the Federal U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals. He would be the first openly gay circuit judge in the country if confirmed.

The Federal Circuit hears patent appeals from around the country, including high stakes cases like Apple Inc’s smartphone battle against Samsung Electronics Co Ltd. Its docket also includes trademark cases and some claims against the federal government.

GLBT community can never say that PBO doesn’t go out of his way to openly and overtly look out for them, that’s for sure.

      • AxelFoley

Never. I don’t want to hear shit from a certain segment of the LGBT community (read: non-minority LGBTers) that always shit on this President.

        • GN

Don’t bet on that. Reminds me of Barney Frank (who I generally rather like), incredulous at Governor Deval Patrick appointing a black man to the interim MA senate post rather than him: “didn’t you *hear* President Obama?!” http://www.washingtonblade.com/2013/01/30/frank-troubled-by-process-of-naming-interim-senator/ Don’t expect privileged people to stop demanding that they receive whatever meager remedial benefits black people fought for in terms of affirmative action and diversity measures; this is a racist country, period.

This is only for CT – why can’t someone propose this legislation nationally?

Rep. Frey Announces Legislation to Include Political Robo Calls on the Do Not Call List
Ridgefield – Rep. John Frey (R-111) announced today proposed legislation to outlaw political robo calls. HB 6209, would add the disturbing calls to the “do not call” list, of which Rep. Frey was an original co-sponsor.

“Unwanted robo calls, notorious for interrupting dinners across the nation, have become more and more of a nuisance over the years,” said Frey. “I have been an elected official for over 14 years and have never once used these automated calls while campaigning. There is no substitute for going out and meeting the voters and candidates have ample opportunity to meet voters through a variety of means.”

The Federal Trade Commission, which regulates the industry, receives more than 200,000 complaints a month about the prerecorded messages, which offer everything from credit cards to new medications.

    • Some details on this Black Youth Project…

The site is registered to Cathy Cohen.

      Who is Cathy Cohen?

      Via Wikipedia:

Cathy J. Cohen (born 1962) is an American author, feminist and social activist whose work has focused on the African American experience in politics from a perspective which is underlined by intersectionality. A former Director of the Center for the Study of Race (2002–2005), she is currently David and Mary Winton Green Professor in Political Science and the College at the University of Chicago. She received her BA from Miami University; Ph.D. from the University of Michigan in 1993 and began her academic career at Yale University where she received tenure. Professor Cohen joined the faculty of the University of Chicago in 2002.[1]

As an academic activist Cohen frequently writes and speaks about gender, sexuality, class, ethnicity, and their interrelatedness, and connection to power. This approach puts her in a class of leftist intellectuals who work to have social and public policy influence the lives of marginalized groups in a positive way. Cohen, a black lesbian and a parent, is the principal researcher on the http://www.blackyouthproject.com, and is the author of Democracy Remixed: Black Youth and the future of American politics and boundaries of Blackness: AIDS and the Breakdown of Black Politics among others.[2]

Professor Cohen is one of the founding board members of the Audre Lorde Project and is active in a number of organizations working on social justice issues. She moderated the plenary of the Applied Research Center’s 2010 conference “Popularizing Racial Justice”, and has served as secretary of the American Political Science Association (APSA).[3][4]

      And she’s on Twitter: http://twitter.com/cathyjcohen

      • goldenstar

Cathy Cohen came to UC to run the Center for Race and Politics. She now is directing the Black Youth Project. Melissa Harris-Perry had her on her show last week w/ this topic.

What’s problematic is that for there’s a need to doing the organizing in addition to speaking truth to power and this is no exception. So, for her to go on national tv and tell PBO to come home, I mean, REALLY. Most folks in Chicago don’t even know who she is so she has her work cut out for her and the BYP.

        • Most folks in Chicago don’t even know who she is so she has her work cut out for her and the BYP.

And therein lies the REAL reason why she’s spam tweeting every Black media personality the link to her site. She’s trying to make a name for herself.

—– Cardiss Collins, the first African-American woman to represent Illinois in Congress, died of complications from pneumonia at a Virginia hospital, according to a family friend.

Mel Blackwell said this week that Collins died Sunday evening at a hospital in Alexandria, Va., after suffering a stroke and spending time in a nursing home.

“She was a groundbreaking congresswoman,” Blackwell said.

Collins originally was elected to fill the seat left vacant when her husband, Congressman George W. Collins, who represented what was then the 7th District, was killed in a 1972 airplane crash. In 1994, the last year she ran for office, she was re-elected with 79 percent of the vote.

Chicago Democratic Rep. Danny Davis, who succeeded Collins, said that during her more than 24 years in Congress, Collins led efforts to curtail credit fraud against women, advocated gender equity in college sports and worked to reform federal child care facilities. She chaired the Government Activities and Transportation Sub-Committee.

I Just Don’t Care About DronesBy Chez Pazienza · February 07,2013

excerpt:Personally, I don’t spend as much time as many on the left do fretting over and occasionally shrieking about America’s supposedly illegal drone war and what some see as our adventures in imperial assassination. I’ve said this before but this is one of those times when it’s worth repeating: I have a limited reservoir of outrage and therefore I have to be judicious about how I spread it around. While I absolutely acknowledge the dangerous ground we’re treading on by authorizing the killing of American citizens without due process — there’s no doubt that eventually an administration I have less faith in than the current president’s will get the keys to the drones — I simply don’t get worked up to the point of spending countless hours and pages of copy railing against it. As Cesca said yesterday, there’s precedent for what Obama’s doing and beyond that it’s difficult to defend those who’ve decided to join Al Qaeda and wage war against the United States, even if they happen to be American citizens. more here: http://thedailybanter.com/2013/02/i-just-dont-care-about-drones/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=i-just-dont-care-about-drones&utm_source=twitterfeed&utm_medium=twitter

—a Sacramento Bee editorial slamming a radio ad airing in California that features Texas governor Rick Perry saying, “Building a business is tough, but I hear building a business in California is next to impossible. This is Texas Governor Rick Perry, and I have a message for California businesses: Come check out Texas.”

The Bee’s response to that was:

Yes, come check out Texas. Check out a state that ranks dead last in the percent of its population with high school diplomas. Come check out a state that is last in mental health expenditures and workers’ compensation coverage. Come check out a state that ranks first in the number of executions, first in the number of uninsured, first in the amount of carbon dioxide emitted and first in the amount of toxic chemicals released into water.

    The San Francisco Chronicle added:

The Lone Star State knows it will have arrived when Texas trumps California as the prime stop for presidential candidates shaking down new-economy entrepreneurs for donations – and wealthy individuals who can live anywhere, such as the former Massachusetts governor who defeated Perry in the GOP primary, stop choosing La Jolla… Until then, Gov. Perry, keep those advertising dollars flowing into California.

Hmmm.. a house husband with no kids?

Someone shared an article from Slate where a married dude with no kids opted to stay at home and be a full-time homemaker.
What can I say? I drop my wife off at her office (we’re trying to remain a one-car couple), then clean, mend, cook, run errands, and deal with the various logistics of life. Kids are a get-out-of-jail-free card when it comes to breaking stereotypical gender roles, but without them homemaking is not really seen as an ambitious life-calling or even particularly time-consuming. I have to say, I don’t see it that way…
…My salary was above average for a not-yet-licensed architect, and though sufficient to live on, it was nothing to write home about. When the-job-offer-she-couldn’t-refuse landed, we realized she was going to be the big earner. In fact, she would make enough to support us both, and this put my vocation in an entirely new context. I had no insecurities about being outearned by my partner, but I had never really considered the idea that my job could be optional.

I’m sorry. I’m not evolved enough to be cool with this. Way too traditional. I understand he doesn’t have to work (wife pulls down great salary) but I’m thinking that even if he worked part-time, wouldn’t that bolster the retirement/vacation/expensive shoes fund? I’m of the mind that while you are able to maximize your earning potential – why not do it?

I’m also of the mind that it wouldn’t be too many nights before I walked in and gave him the “what have you been doing all day” look. I know, totally Stone Age in my thinking but there it is. I think I’ve told this story before but it fits so I’ll share it again.

I don’t know why folks on twitter are so upset and shocked at the PL, including Maddow, with their “drones!” propaganda. When has the PL ever NOT presumed intellectual and moral superiority over the President? When have they ever not held the WH to a double standard (bet ya won’t ever see something like this launched against Bernie Sanders for voting against Gitmo’s closure). This is who they are and have been like forever. I don’t dislike Maddow for shits and giggles. I dislike her and refuse to watch her nonsense because she’s the type of person who would scapegoat black people for Prop 8 and spend years playing Pretend President as if she is not an overrated, biased beltway pundit. My only question at this point is why people take Chris Hayes, Maddow, GG, Joan “racial force field” Walsh, and any of these media hacks so seriously? I don’t understand! Walk on by folks, walk on by lol. Stop trying to talk sense to the senseless. Live a fauxgressive-free lifestyle.

—–Meet The 31 Corporations and Banks Who Dodged $128 Billion in US Taxes

——- Sen. Bernie Sanders released a report today directly taking on the Business Roundtable, bby outing 31 banks and corporations who have dodged $128 billion in taxes.

According to the report, the 31 corporations and banks have dodged $128 billion in taxes by setting up offshore tax havens. They have received $6.5 billion in tax refunds, and $2.5 trillion in taxpayer bailout money. While stuffing their pockets with trillions of taxpayer dollars, the Business Roundtable has called for the deficit to be reduced by raising the eligibility age for Medicare and Social Security to 70, cut Social Security and veterans’ benefits, and increase taxes on working families.

The reason why congressional Republicans are adamantly opposed to generating new revenue through closing these loopholes is that doing so would force these tax dodgers to pay their fair share. For Republicans, the concept of fairness only applies to making sure the wealthy get more by doing less. One of the reasons why Republicans continue to lose elections is because they insist on protecting corporations and banks at the expense of the American people.

Instead of passing the burden of deficit reduction on to workers, seniors, the poor, and the middle class, how about we start with getting the 31 corporations and banks listed below to pay their taxes?

    ——Skeptical about Rubio

    – — – – I have been almost uniquely skeptical among my media friends about Marco Rubio — the junior senator from Florida who won a three-way contest in 2010 and knows his way around a party-issued Amex card — running for president in 2016.

Sure, the media loves him. He’s the Latin Ronald Reagan who will save an easily bored and distracted press corps from a future presidential race that seems destined to be dominated by yet another Clinton.

The GOP, for its part, has eagerly pushed Rubio out front, hoping the Os at the end of his first and last names will lure millions of mainly Mexican-American Hispanic voters to the Cuban-American side of the voting aisle, (though polls show the reverse trend may be taking hold.)

    —So why the skepticism? —

=–Rubio has issues, two of which are named David Rivera, who lost his House seat but not his potential to embarrass his BFF in a presidential contest; and Jim Greer, the former state GOP chair who could loudly remind folks at his corruption trial next week that he was the guy paying Rubio’s party credit card bills when Marco was state House speaker.

But my main source of doubt has been the notion that Jeb Bush, Rubio’s political mentor, is very likely running for president himself.

    – – – – —Madame Tussauds has turned its attention to Whitney Houston, remembering the legendary singer who died last year with not one, but four separate wax figures. “We were extremely honored when Madame Tussauds approached us about doing four figures of Whitney from different points in her 30-year career,” Houston’s manager and sister-in-law Pat Houston said in a statement on behalf of the family. “This is something we are excited to do for the fans.”

The unveiling marks the first time in 200 years that the museum has simultaneously created so many different figures of the same subject. While each took shape at the Tussauds studio in London, they will be displayed in separate cities.

Houston performing the national anthem at the 1991 Super Bowl is going to Washington, D.C.’s Tussauds; Hollywood will get her in her 1992 movie The Bodyguard; Las Vegas will display the young Houston as seen in her 1988 video for “I Wanna Dance with Somebody (Who Loves Me)”; and New York will exhibit a more recent likeness of the singer, from a 2009 photo shoot for her final studio album. – —
