Black men on alert as Dorner search continues

SAN DIEGO – As the manhunt for suspected murderer Christopher Dorner continues, a police sergeant warns African American men of the reality of racial profiling.
“If you’re an African American man, you could be stopped and questioned,” said San Diego Black Police Officer Association President Sgt. Benjamin Kelso. “There are many people that may look like Chris Dorner, my self-included. If you are stopped and questioned its important to cooperate with officers.”

But the line between racial profiling and suspect profiling is gray.

“I got some friends who are large, black men, who have bald heads, who should be concerned,” said San Diego attorney Doug Oden.

I actually saw a Facebook post this morning where somebody’s selling t-shirts (for Black men) that say “I’m not Christopher Dorner, don’t shoot me.”

    Emoprogs have a sad:

    Use of Drones

The practice of using unmanned drone aircrafts to attack suspected terrorists in foreign countries – a policy begun by the Bush Administration and expanded under President Obama – enjoys widespread and bipartisan support. Seven in 10 Americans favor using drones to attack suspected terrorists abroad, including most Republicans, Democrats, and independents.

Americans also support a more controversial measure, although in smaller numbers. Forty-nine percent of Americans favor the targeting and killing of U.S. citizens living abroad who are suspected of carrying out terrorist activities against the U.S.; 38 percent oppose that.

    Imbalance of Power
The New York Times notes that due to redistricting, seven states had a “severe imbalance” between their popular vote and the party makeup of their House delegations: Arizona, Florida, Michigan, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, and Virginia.

All but Arizona were tilted in favor of the Republicans.

    — Feb. 12 4:28 PM EST

LOS ANGELES (AP) — A person believed to be the fugitive ex-Los Angeles cop sought in three killings exchanged gunfire with authorities in the San Bernardino Mountains on Tuesday, a law enforcement official said on condition of anonymity.

The officer requested anonymity because the officer was not authorized to speak publicly about the ongoing investigation.

The officer told The Associated Press it’s believed Christopher Dorner committed a residential burglary of a cabin and had a couple tied up in the cabin. One was able to get away and make a call.

Authorities responded to the location and gave chase Tuesday when Dorner fled in a stolen car. Gunfire was exchanged.

    They Have Nothing

    by BooMan
Mon Feb 11th, 2013 at 11:20:36 PM EST

David Drucker reports in Roll Call that the House Republicans have a new strategy. They will eschew negotiations with the administration and the Senate Democrats and begin passing “message” bills that they know will have no chance of becoming law. The idea is that there isn’t much profit in spending all their time fighting the White House. They need to give the American people a taste of what life would be like if they were actually in charge. Apparently, their model will be based on a speech Eric Cantor gave last week at the American Enterprise Institute, and the theme will be “Making Life Work.”
I think that is unintentionally funny. I read it as “Turning Life into Nothing But Work.”

My opinion of this strategy is that it is fairly stupid. It’s kind of like the old question about whether a tree makes a sound when it falls in the forest if there is no one around to hear it. The House can pass all the bills it wants, but no one will do much reporting about those bills if they have no future.

    – – – — SNIP – – – –
Prosecutors said Ward and Williams were in a vehicle circling the park when they spotted Pendleton’s group and thought they were rival gang members. Williams handed Ward a gun, and Ward snuck up on the group and opened fire, shooting at least six times, prosecutors said.

“Ward admitted he snuck up on the group and they didn’t see him coming,” Sexton said.

Police say Ward and Williams belong to the SUWU gang, and the shooting stemmed from a long war between it and the 4-6 Terror gang. Ward told police the gangs had been shooting at each other since 2010, prosecutors said, and Ward was still upset the rival gang killed one of his friends.

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-NV) told reporters Tuesday that he will not honor any holds placed on the nomination of Chuck Hagel for secretary of defense.

    – — As politicians ponder the state of the union, the union’s looking back at the state of politics. And it’s none too thrilled.

Fifty-six percent of Americans in the latest ABC News/Washington Post poll express an unfavorable opinion of the nation’s political system. About as many, 55 percent, hold a negative view of the policies they expect the Republicans in Congress to offer in the next four years.

Barack Obama does better, but not great: Fifty-two percent have a favorable opinion of the policies he’ll pursue in his second term, while 43 percent see them unfavorably. That’s similar to the 51-45 percent optimism-pessimism rating Americans gave the expected policies of George W. Bush heading into his second term.

    – — —Intensity of sentiment in this poll, produced for ABC by Langer Research Associates, also is better for the president. While similar numbers have a “strongly” negative opinion of all three, roughly twice as many see Obama’s plans strongly positively as say the same of the GOP’s plans and the political system overall, 30 percent vs. 14 and 16 percent, respectively.– —

WASHINGTON — President Barack Obama will announce a bipartisan presidential voting commission to focus on improving the Election Day experience, The Huffington Post has learned from two sources outside the White House with knowledge of the plans.

The commission is one of a number of efforts the Obama administration is making to address the problems that plagued voting on Election Day 2012. The commission, which will focus specifically on Election Day issues and not broader voting reform, will likely be co-chaired by one Republican and one Democratic lawyer, according to one of the sources.

The White House announced Tuesday that 102-year-old Miami resident Desiline Victor will be a guest of first lady Michelle Obama during the president’s State of the Union address on Tuesday night, during which Obama is expected to discuss voting reforms. Victor is a naturalized U.S. citizen who stood in line for three hours at a local library on the first Sunday of early voting until workers told her to come back later that evening. A crowd of thousands of people erupted in applause when she emerged with an “I Voted” sticker, the White House said.

Question: In the past when white men committed mass murders, were they ever labeled as “domestic terrorists?” I can’t seem to recall any tragic event where they have been described this way…no matter what they did. What I do recall is that all sorts of narratives and diagnoses surfaced suggesting that the individual(s) was a loner, had a difficult family life, showed signs of mental illness, exhibited strange behavior as a child, kicked a puppy once, etc…the whole nine, but never, evah were they depicted as a “domestic terrorist” even when they “allegedly” killed police officers. So, what changed? And why is Dorner now being being labeled a “domestic terrorist?” Putting aside any moral judgments for his actions, and said motivations for doing what he did, I find this development to be….”curious,” don’t you?

[….] “This is the largest local reward ever offered, to our knowledge,” Los Angeles Police Chief Charlie Beck said at a news conference. “This is an act of domestic terrorism. This is a man who has targeted those that we entrust to protect the public. His actions cannot go unanswered.”

The U.S. government posted a budget surplus of $3 billion in January, the first monthly surplus since September of 2012, Market Watch reported on Tuesday. The Treasury Department marked a 16% increase in revenues driven in part by the expiration of the payroll tax-cut which Congress and the White House let lapse during fiscal cliff negotiations on January 1.

At the direction of President Obama, Congress reduced the payroll tax rate from 6.2 percent to 4.2 percent in 2010, allowing the average U.S. household to pocket an additional $1,000 per year.

“R&B Divas: L.A.” Cast REVEALED! Lil Mo, Kelly Price, Chante Moore, Dawn Robinson & MORE Gear Up For The Drama!

TV One’s hit reality show “R&B Divas” is kicking off it’s L.A. spinoff. And the final cast has just been announced. Check out some of our faves from the past getting their second wind…on reality tv…..

“R&B Divas: L.A.” is kicking off its first season after the ladies in ATL had a successful first season. For this spinoff, we’ll get to see a few folks we haven’t seen in a while.

Kelly Price, Chante Moore, Lil’ Mo, Claudette Ortiz, Michel’le and Dawn Robinson will begin production this month in Los Angeles, TV One has announced, with an anticipated premiere on TV One this fall.

Learning more about Michel’le and Claudette Ortiz and any drama they have will be interesting. Especially since we haven’t heard from Claudette since she left City High after getting married to her groupmate Ryan Toby for a while and having 3 kids total (two with Ryan).

As for Dawn, she better dish ALL details about the beef amongst En Vogue (and WTF happened to Lucy Pearl). And Chante Moore and her drama with her ex husband Kadeem Hardison and current husband Kenny Lattimore (even though we HEAR their divorce is almost final as well) ought to be interesting.
