Arkansas to allow concealed guns in churches

    By Dan Merica, CNN

(CNN) – The Arkansas House of Representatives has overwhelmingly passed a measure that would allow concealed guns to be carried in churches and houses of worship, and the governor’s office says it plans to sign the bill.

The measure, which passed 85-8 on Monday, gives houses of worship the option of allowing concealed weapons.

Passed by the state Senate in an equally lopsided 28-4 vote last week, the bill states it is “immediately necessary for the preservation of the public peace, health, and safety” because “personal security is increasingly important.”

“A person should be allowed to carry a firearm in a church that permits the carrying of a firearm for personal security,” the bill reads.

The bill was originally sponsored by Republican state Sen. Bryan King from Green Forest, a rural town in northern Arkansas.

I despise these people. I’m sick. sick. sick of this.

I’ve always said that this country worships guns as much as it does God.

Still shocking to be proven right though.

      • isonprize

and didn’t Pres. Obama say the same thing?

        “guns and religion”…

        • Miranda

          He sure did.

        • goldenstar

He used the verb “clinging” and ain’t it the truth!

        • Daltex82

President Obama wasn’t lying when he said “they cling to them”, they were just mad because he told the truth.

      • nathkatun7

MsKitty, I think there are many people in this country who worship guns more than they worship GOD! Otherwise, what’s the rationale for allowing people to bring guns to churches? Obviously those people who advocate carrying guns to church have more faith in the GUNS than they do in GOD.

Without Sanctuary: Lynching Photography in America

Without Sanctuary is a photo document of proof, an unearthing of crimes, of collective mass murder, of mass memory graves excavated from the American conscience. Part postal cards, common as dirt, souvenirs skin-thin and fresh-tatooed proud, the trade cards of those assisting at rituals racial killings and other acts of a mad citizenry….

I saw this exhibition some years ago at The King Center. They played “Strange Fruit” by Billie Holiday on repeat the whole time the exhibition was there. Not one word…not one single word by anyone as we viewed the pictures and the play was packed with visitors. No one could say ANYTHING. I was with my sisters, I think after we left we went to get something to eat and just sat silently eating our food, it leaves you speechless.

    • dannie22

see, this is why i hate it when other groups try to ride our history for their own gain. This is our history! This is our legacy. This was our blood, our bodies, our lives that these people destroyed!! And noone else can take credit for survivng it but us. NOBODY!! Not the gay movement, not the illegal immigration movement, not the women’s movement. NOBODY!!! Tell the truth, none of those movements want any of this anyway.

      • conlakappa

That was one of my fights with a second wave feminist. I read her with no mercy, noting that I must have missed the stories of strange rubyfruit and the moment she could show me legions of excerpts and photos proving would I concede the analogy of the history of a systemic response to the uppity woman (I think I said white ’cause that is how pissed off I was) and the treatment of black men and people.

        • GN

Well at least to their credit, feminists at least have their own vernacular, own cultural reference points, and warts and all (plenty of warts as your anecdote notes), have paid their own dues. I’ve never seen widespread attempts to package feminism–whether liberal, radical, second or third wave, and women’s lib as “the new civil rights” or “post-black civil rights” or any of the current utter and total bullshit which is flying around right now.

          • conlakappa

No, they see their burden as having been more heavy and the ills against the, constant and true. See Steinem, Gloria, and why she still cannot figure out that people were pissed that she said it was harder to be a woman (again, we know she meant white) than a black man. Or women claiming they have been discriminated against in college diversity programs when their admissions came largely on the backs of those who struggled in acquiring Civil Rights. Maybe I have been unlucky in encountering some right jammy cows who want to cauterwaul on the regular about nobody knowing the troubles they done seen, sung in a minor key.

          • GN

Well said; I remember all those claims in 2007/2008 as justification as to why supposedly Hillary C. deserved to “go first” without regard to her Iraq War vote.

admissions came largely on the backs of those who struggled in acquiring Civil Rights

Amazing that all one needs to do is claim to “have it worse” than black people (or lie about black people supposedly disproportionately oppressing you without regard to data proving otherwise), and voila: instant access to the meager remedial benefits black people have managed to get, without having to deal with any of those troublesome and intergenerational effects of actual oppression.

I see women, Latinos, and GLBTs mentioned as the triumvirate of “diversity” all over the place now, and trust that it’s nothing but the same bullshit resentment of black people and racism on the left which is producing this “post-black civil rights” bullshit.

          • conlakappa

Yep, step right up and engage in a pain-off. I got what you mean about who these new folks are. What the don’t get is that they are looking to broaden their civil rights not actually get some. I wouldn’t generally put latinos in that character but rather the MSM at their corporate masters’s bidding trying to stoke the flames of a black-brown conflict. I have always seen them giving dap and taking lessons from the movement, dating back to Cesar Chavez, looking at a local activist in D.C. who talked about why he needed to go to the Million Man March, to the different groups that formed using the model black folks set. The Congressional Hispanic Caucus is so way more together in its mission than our favorite slippers-wearing crowd.

          • GN

Completely agreed with every word of this.

          • Miranda

Maybe I have been unlucky in encountering some right jammy cows who want to cauterwaul on the regular about nobody knowing the troubles they done seen, sung in a minor key.

          • conlakappa

Ha! Anger towards that crowd inspires me.

      • GN

I feel the same way. Tired of seeing so much ignorance spread about this legacy and its current impact on black people. What has happened to us is being continually distorted and minimized via sloppy comparisons and a rush to declare other liberation movements as the second coming of civil rights.

    – — Diahann Carroll talks ‘White Collar’ and give thumbs-up to an all-black cast of ‘Dynasty’ – –

    – —-Diahann Carroll is back on TV, guest-starring on USA’s hit drama White Collar.

The legendary actress/singer appears in a recurring role on the series as June Ellington, an elderly woman with a flair for elegant fashion and a love for music. She stars alongside Matt Bomber and Neal Caffrey on the show about a white collar criminal turned hero, which is now in it’s fourth season.

Carroll has had a successful TV and film career spanning nearly six decades, yet she revealed during an interview with theGrio’s Chris Witherspoon that she still gets nervous before delivering her lines on the set of White Collar.

“Absolutely I get nervous,” Carroll said. “And when you don’t get nervous, you’re in trouble.”

In 1968 Carroll became first African-American woman to star in a weekly television series on a major TV network. She won an Emmy and Golden Globe Award for Julia, which lasted three seasons on NBC.

    – — –Although comprehensive immigration reform with a path to citizenship has strong bipartisan support — notably the Senate’s “gang of eight” — a bill would face its toughest climb in the House of Representatives, where conservatives are still cautious about embracing reform. At Congress’ first immigration hearing in the House Judiciary Committee on Tuesday, Republicans stacked the deck with anti-immigration activists and critics of reform.

    – –One of those witnesses, President of the Immigration Customs Enforcement (ICE) union Chris Crane, sharply criticized the Obama administration for interfering with ICE procedures and deferring deportation of some DREAMers. Parents Upset Over Gucci Mane Appearance For Career Day At Atlanta Middle School

Last week, Gucci Mane appeared at Crawford Long middle school in Atlanta for career day, and it turns out parents of the children who attend the school are not too happy with the rapper’s showing at the school.

As reported by WSBTV Atlanta, parents and Atlanta Public Schools alumni were upset over the school’s decision to bring in Gucci Mane to speak at career day.

Leisle Moody, an Atlanta public school alum and parent to a child who attends the school wasn’t too happy with the rappers appearance due to Gucci’s lyrics and criminal history that includes a stint in Fulton County Jail in 2008, and most recently, in 2011, charged with assault for pushing a woman out of a moving car, gave a statement.

      This, this, skrait up THIS.

We been using drones how long? And now these fuck nuggets wanna to complain about it?

Like you said, dannie, if there was an attack on U.S. soil, PBO would get blamed for not keeping us safe. Bush got the benefit of the doubt for letting the worst attack on the U.S. happen on his watch, but they tried to crucify PBO for an attack on a U.S. consulate–consulate, not embassy–in another country.

    • THANK YOU!

It’s like they want to wait for another attack before PBO does something. It’s called PREVENTATIVE MEASURES mofos!

Kareem Abdul-Jabbar Responds to Critics of his ‘Girls’ Review
by Jorge Rivas Tuesday, February 5 2013, 10:47 AM EST.

…There was much reaction. Some questioned why a man my age would watch a show about girls in their twenties, as if they’d just discovered me hanging around a school playground with a shopping bag full of candy in one hand a fluffy puppy in the other. Of course, these critics are right. When I read Moby Dick I first had to convince the bookseller that I was a former whaler named Queequeg. When I read the poetry of Sylvia Plath, I had to pretend I was a depressed white woman with daddy issues. Don’t worry, I used a fake ID.

Why did I review Girls? As I said in the review, we should all be intently listening to voices of the next generation, hearing what they have to say and, when they are struggling to say it, help them to articulate better. That’s the advantage of growing older in this youth-centric society — maybe the only advantage.

The overwhelming reaction to my review was complimentary which, because it was my first foray into pop culture reviewing, made me feel both appreciative and humbled. But even among some of the positive response was an underlying head-scratching theme: isn’t it amazing that a former jock can have opinions on pop culture and articulate it with words and references to books and movies? Some mentioned my height, as if I was so tall that the air up here could not support intellectual development. It was as if, after climbing the Empire State Building and swatting bi-planes all afternoon, I suddenly decided to write a fashion article critiquing Ann Darrow’s dress (“The tattered jungle look is so five minutes ago.”).

February 5, 2013 by EurPublisher Leave a Comment
Some sources have suggested to EURweb that the resignations came after years of acrimony between the staff and the host

Three of its top executives have purportedly resigned in unison this past Friday. Neal Kendall (executive producer), Luke Sader (talent producer) and Stephanie Storey (producer).

Some sources have suggested to EURweb that the resignations came after years of acrimony between the staff and the host over differing visions of program direction and quality of show bookings. Speculation has abounded for years as to Smiley’s supposed demanding management style and whether it played a factor in the employees decision to leave; or whether the departures were amicable in nature.

    – – —Republicans Are Upset That Obama Is Giving Remarks At The Same Time As Eric Cantor’s Speech -[GOP officials take to Twitter to voice their discontent.] —BWAHAHA! —

    — – – –Republican aides are calling out the White House for scheduling President Barack Obama’s remarks on avoiding the sequester at the same time House Majority Leader Eric Cantor is delivering a major address Tuesday afternoon.

Cantor’s address to the American Enterprise Institute at 1 p.m. has been on the books for weeks, and is billed by his aides as an agenda-setting speech — and one, that according to excerpts, will continue the party’s shift away from a singular focus on fiscal isses.

    – —- BWAHAHA — -> -“Why are they so worried about Americans hearing positive ideas on how to help working families,” asked a Cantor aide. “We’re flattered they’re putting so much emphasis on Leader Cantor’s remarks.”

On Tuesday morning, White House officials told reporters that Obama would be making remarks at 1:15 to outline his plan to avoid the mandatory spending cuts known as the sequester.

Based on Rev. Al’s analysis, it appears Cantor plagiarized one of PBO’s speeches in his address today. Why listen to an old Barack Obama speech poorly delivered by Cantor when you can hear a new Barack Obama speech expertly delivered by Barack Obama himself?

CNN is abandoning any pretense of trying to be a news organization.

Dick Morris — Absent From Fox For Nearly Three Months — To Appear On CNN
    Reports: Morris Out At Fox

Fox News political analyst Dick Morris, who has been absent from the network for nearly three months following a directive that any segments with him would have to be cleared by a top network executive — will appear on CNN February 6.

Morris announced the appearance — his first on CNN since 2002, according to a search of the Nexis database — on his website, writing, “You read it right! I will be a guest on The Piers Morgan Show on CNN, yes CNN, this Wednesday night at 9 PM EST.”

      CNN, Please Stop!!!

I don’t know if anyone else is watching CNN from about 6:05 to about 6:10 eastern. But my God, they’re covering the possibly-Beyonce-related Super Bowl blackout investigation as something on a par with the investigation into 9/11. Missed warnings! Questions about the strength of the 9/11! A massive electricity intelligence failure and how can we be certain this never happens again?

A new explanation for the racial wealth gap

Posted by Kevin Hartnett January 29, 2013 11:02 AM

The wealth gap between black and white families is one of the most striking facts of American life: As of 2009, the median wealth of white households was $113,149; for black households, it was $5,677. And more to the point, the wealth gap persists even when you compare households with similar annual incomes.

Sociologists cite a number of factors to explain why. One is that historical patterns of discrimination have prevented wealth from accumulating in black families over the generations. Another is that, all else being equal, black families tend to live in lower income neighborhoods where home values—a principle source of wealth—don’t appreciate as quickly.

Princeton graduate student Rourke O’Brien thinks he’s found another reason. In a paper published last month, he argues that middle and upper-income black families don’t accumulate wealth as quickly because rather than investing their money, they give more of it to poor friends and relatives.

This idea has been around for awhile, but O’Brien’s paper is one of the first to test it quantitatively. Middle-income blacks are more than twice as likely as middle-income whites to have a poor sibling and more than four times as likely to have parents below the poverty line. And because of these relationships, they’re called upon more often to provide financial assistance.

This chart from O’Brien’s paper shows the magnitude of the difference. Black families earning more than $100,000 a year are about twice as likely to have given money to friends and family compared to white families.

Like we really needed a study for this, everybody that is black knows this. It’s just that white folks don’t want to hear it or believe it.

    — —3 Long-Time Producers Up and Quit ‘Tavis Smiley’ (Spokesperson Responds) – – -LOL!!—

——-*Reports are coming in to EUR that there has been a big shake up at the popular late night PBS program “Tavis Smiley.”

    – – –SNIP —
The alleged resignations ironically come during this, the tenth anniversary of the television program.
