Tuesday Afternoon Thread: Romney’s Shameless Scare Tactic

This is so sad. The Chrysler CEO has now emailed all company employees to address the blatant lying by Mitt Romney. In addition, he wrote a letter , published by The Detroit News (which endorsed Romney) to further address the Romney lies.

Martin Bashir speaks to Brad Woodhouse of the DNC:

From the Washington Post:

Bruce Baumhower, the president of the United Auto Workers local that oversees the major Jeep plant here, said Mr. Romney’s initial comments on moving production to China drew a rash of calls from members concerned about their jobs. When he informed them Chrysler was, in fact, is expanding its Jeep operation here, he said in an interview, “The response has been, ‘That’s pretty pitiful.’ ”

SMDH.

    Irresponsible of Mitt.
But can ya blame him? I mean he’s been lying up to this point – was even named a WINNER by the press in the first debates – and not been called out. Hell, he’s even been “surging” in the polls with the media breathlessly covering him.
I guess Mitt figures the press aint shit and those that support him don’t give a damn so what the hell. Truth doesn’t seem to matter anymore.

    • nellcote

PBO’s at Red Cross headquarters being all presidential. Messina must have passed the message from BWD along.
      LOLOLOLOLOLOL!

      • Daltex82

        LOL!

  • jziglar

Blackwaterdog on TOD can be very annoying with her concern/ worried act. Now she is saying that the president should go on the air even for a few minutes. Why is that so important right now ? The concern troll act is getting old and stale.

    • Miranda

I saw her on my twitter timeline just a trolling poor Jim Messina to death – she is really a weak one. I tell ya…a real weak one.

    • Alma98

She is unbearable all her whining and kvetching will drive you insane if you let it. She’s over there almost everyday with her “the sky is falling routine”. She really thinks she owns him and he needs her help running his campaign.

      • http://themidnightsolution.blogspot.com LTMidnight

Something must have happened in her life recently that made her so unstable.

        • Alma98

I think this is how she’s always been but no one really noticed or paid attention to it. I do know that I stay away when I see her posting at other blogs.

        • crazycanuck

That is what I think also.

      • jziglar

I know. She doesn’t even realize that she is as bad as the emo left who worry all the time or feel they know what is best and that the president should listen to them. It really is annoying and one of the main reasons I can’t wait till Obama is re-elected.

    • goldenstar

What are her qualifications or experience?

      • AxelFoley

        Not nan bit.

      • Aquagranny911

        Probably mostly in her head.

    • http://themidnightsolution.blogspot.com LTMidnight

PBO went on air yesterday. What more does she want.

IMO, wingnut darling Chris Christie praising the president and telling the Romney campaign to piss off does more for the president than another press conference.

    • AxelFoley

She’s such a damn disappointment. After all the bullshit she went through at DKos, she winds up being as whiny as them.

      SMMFH

      • jds09

That is the truth. I watched that bullshit go down. She’s a lesson in that adversity doesn’t necessarily build character. I think she simply likes the attention.

    • MsKitty

He was on TV yesterday. Maybe she needs constant handholding but the rest of us understand PBO has more pressing matters to deal with.

      God, she’s annoying.

    • Aquagranny911

No comment. Well…maybe just a small one. She totally lost me over the SSM caca letter & the subsequent BS at TOD. Why bother to even read her posts? They are irrelevant. I still enjoy TOD for the great pics & info & skip most of the posts, especially hers.

    • gc

She positions herself as Obama’s puppetmaster and cannot even see how degrading (and unessessary) that is. I also left TOD because of her.

I’ve actully come to really dislike that person.

Bush’s FEMA Director During Katrina Criticizes Obama For Responding To Sandy ‘Too Quickly’

Former FEMA Director Michael Brown offered criticism of President Obama’s early responses to Hurricane Sandy yesterday, including a dig at the administration’s response to last month’s attack in Libya.

Yesterday, ahead of the storm’s pummeling of the eastern seaboard, Brown gave an interview to the local alternative paper, the Denver Westword, on how he believed the Obama administration was responding to Sandy too quickly and that Obama had spoken to the press about Sandy’s potential effect too early.

      • Aquagranny911

I wouldn’t trust him to do that.

    • TrumpDog

      OMG
      Wow.
      Just. WOW

      • Aquagranny911

Hola, TrumpDog! How’s by your casa? Haven’t seen you in a while but I have been real busy with GOTV & don’t get to TPV much.

Things are looking good here. We ARE going to turn AZ Blue!

        • TrumpDog

          Waving to you!
Yeah I mostly hang out at TOD or Twitter. Busy but nervous here — one week to go!
Anxiously looking at the Carmona/Flake race. Biting nails, do you think Carmona can pull it off?

          • Aquagranny911

I do, I really do. It will be tight but we ARE going to do this. Sis & I have been walking for him & the response has been really positive. We have a strong focused ground game.

The ads showing that Flake voted for mining at the Canyon is even turning off a lot of Repubs. I had a couple ask me: “Is this really true?” I had the stats & showed them.

Kyl is such a dud & McCain is also making no friends with all his MSM appearances. What I am seeing as a foot soldier is that a lot of people are just plain finished with the Repugnant agenda in AZ.

My only concern is the Sheriff’s race. I will be doing my Snoopy Dance of Joy if Penzone takes this one!

          • TrumpDog

You KNOW I can;t stand Arpaio
            BUT
he’s got some really good ads out and I haven’t seen any for Penzone.

Flake seems to be running against Obama. It’s all that’s mentioned in ads from groups that support him.

I really really hope we can get Carmona in there.

          • Aquagranny911

Arpaio has huge money from all kinds of questionable sources to pay for his ads.

Penzone mostly has ground game & the hope that people are thoroughly sick of that pendejo blow hard racist.

Imo, Flake’s campaign is not good at all in a state that is on the brink of going for Obama. We are so close to the tipping point here & GOTV is crucial.

I spent a lot of the previous months doing voter registration & it is crucial that we GOTV for those voters & for our minority communities that are feeling the power of their voice this election.

All I can do is keep on working as much and as hard as I can.
            Si, Se Puede!!!

    • MonieTalks

Wasn’t this sorry bastard a horse trainer who screwed that up before he was forced to resign from FEMA? Who even interviewed this loser to comment on anything?

Go fetch Rafalca and shut the hell up, doo doo Brownie.

And to that home-wrecking, drug addict recovering Cindy McCain….watch your mouth as well. Remember it was your bitter husband eating cake during Hurricane Katrina.

I swear these people are pond scum.

Cindy needs to shut her cake hole, with her Stepford wife self.

      • nellcote

        • Aquagranny911

        • conlakappa

      • Aquagranny911

Worse than pond scum. Pond scum actually has a useful purpose in an ecosystem.

These people are regurgitated fly vomit.

      They got nothing absolutely nothing.

    • Kennymack1971

The mere fact that any Bush administration officials are confortable showing their face in public is one thing…that they have the nerve to talk smack about the current administration is another…but..
THIS DUDE? REALLY?? Heck of a job Brownie trying to talk slick about how to handle an emergency? All I can say is..Ho have a seat.

      • MonieTalks

Not only have a seat, but sit on one with rusty, corroded nails.

People like Brown should have been tried criminally for their incompetence..sent to Guantanamo for at least a decade.

  • nellcote

    via Charles Pierce:

we should look back at the one natural disaster (locally, anyway, Katrina being a whole ‘nother story) that occurred while Willard Romney was still nominally governor of Massachusetts: the great Mother’s Day floods of 2006.

The entire region was under flood warnings, but the problem was especially acute along the Merrimack River, especially in the city of Lowell, where Romney’s response was considered, well, leaky. The right-leaning Lowell Sun was particularly displeased.

“We find it inconceivable that Gov. Mitt Romney claims the state can do nothing to help those residents still struggling to rebuild homes and businesses after the May flood. Massachusetts is sitting on millions in unspent emergency funds from Hurricane Katrina and more than $1 billion in cash reserves, yet Romney has failed to even respond to the Lowell delegation’s requests to discuss additional aid for victims. The governor’s spokesman — since Romney can’t be bothered to comment now that the photo opportunities have dried up even though some residents’ basements haven’t — said the state will not consider spending its own money for flood victims until it’s clear how much cash the federal government will give.”

      • jds09

Aquagranny, I really think Romney’s dream is for the American people to have nothing and become so desperate for any job that we are scaling the barbed wire walls to get into a factory. When he retold that factory tour story, its was aspirational for him. I truly believe he sees the presidency as a business opportunity. But instead of outsourcing he will help create a cheap labor market that rivals China.

I read this morning that we have volunteer teams from all over us “dry” states heading your way to help with rescue & restoring power. We take care of our own, yes we do! Thank you to Mr President & all our good rescue people.

I was totally blown away by the response of Chris Christi. I guess he does know where the salsa for his tacos is coming & it ain’t from Robme. Imo, & maybe I am wrong but I thought he looked visibly shaken by the devastation that his state has endured.

Romney’s astonishingly dishonest Jeep-to-China radio ad
    By Greg Sargent

I noted below that the Romney campaign has broadened its Jeep-to-China ad campaign by putting a version of its earlier TV ad on the radio in Toledo, Ohio, home to a Jeep plant.

I’ve got audio of the ad from a Democrat — it’s posted below — and it is even more staggering in its dishonesty than the TV spot is. Here’s the script:

Barack Obama says he saved the auto industry. But for who? Ohio, or China? Under President Obama, GM cut 15,000 American jobs. But they are planning to double the number of cars built in China — which means 15,000 more jobs for China.

And now comes word that Chrysler plans to start making jeeps in — you guessed it — China. What happened to the promises made to autoworkers in Toledo and throughout Ohio — the same hard-working men and women who were told that Obama’s auto bailout would help them?

Mitt Romney grew up in the Auto Industry. Maybe that’s why the Detroit News endorsed him, saying: ”Romney understands the industry and will shield it from regulators who never tire of churning out new layers of mandates.” Mitt Romney. He’ll stand up for the auto industry. In Ohio, not China

Romney’s new ad suggests that the auto bailout did not save the industry for Ohio, and saved it for China instead. That alone is a pretty big whopper. The ad then strongly implies that the Jeep/China news constitutes a breaking of the auto bailout’s promise to Ohio auto workers — that it proves the auto bailout is not helping them, that it has let them down. But as Fiat’s chief executive reiterated today, Chrysler is not moving any American Jeep production to China. It is returning production to that country for the Chinese market. Not only that, but Chrysler is planning to add Jeep jobs in the United States.

    TheWashingtonPost
Explaining Romney’s dishonesty on the auto-bailout
    By Greg Sargent

A reader emails me with a great point that gets right to the heart of why Mitt Romney has had to dissemble so extensively about the auto rescue and his own ill fated opposition to it:

Has anyone written anything to the point that the Detroit turnaround undermines Romney’s central claim to the Presidency?
Romney claims to be a turnaround specialist who knows how to rescue flailing businesses, create/save jobs, balance budgets, and make the tough decisions. His ads have claimed that America needs a turnaround, and he’s the turnaround kid.
Yet when the story of the last ten years is written, the two greatest turnarounds were both orchestrated by President Obama, the feckless community organizer who knows nothing about business and hates capitalism. GM and Chrysler trump Staples and Dunkin Donuts. Sorry, but they just do, for reasons to obvious to bother enumerating.
It’s no wonder he’s lying himself blue in the face about all of it. It must cut him to the quick to realize he called the entire thing absolutely wrong, Obama got it 100% right, and this is supposed to be Romney’s one area of expertise. After all, no one’s supposed to vote for him because of his winning personality, his dancing horse or his magic undies.

    http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/plum-line/post/explaining-romneys-dishonesty-on-the-auto-bailout/2012/10/30/646b2cda-22af-11e2-8448-81b1ce7d6978_blog.html

“The problem is this,” Reid said. “My concern is that Karl Rove and 17 angry old white men are trying to buy the election. And that’s the truth. You have (Las Vegas Sands casino billionaire Sheldon) Adelson, the Koch brothers (billionaires David and Charles). You have (billionaire Harold) Simmons of Texas. They are literally trying to buy the election. Think about this. The day after the election, Karl Rove sits down and talks to … the 17 angry old white guys and says, ‘Hey, listen guys, we just bought America. And we’re still rich.’ That’s the concern that we all have.”

    • JojoRaze

Dang! Didn’t somebody say here that Reid gonna come out the hospital still saying “Where dem tax returns Mitten?”

    • MonieTalks

Let’s not forget. In 2007-2008, Romney spent $45M of his own money in the Republican primary. This was BEFORE the Citizens United ruling and preceded the outrageous personal sums of money that Republicans Meg Whitman and Rick Scott poured into their own campaigns.

And before that, in his 2002 MA governor’s race, he spent $6M (out of a total of $10M) of his own money, which was a record in MA at that time.

Mitt Romney has pushed the envelope of financing his own campaigns and thinking he can buy his way into office. When Ann Romney says it is our turn…she really means we have paid our dues for buying elections.

I want to see the tax returns of those years especially. That’s why Miss Ann gets all indignant, waving those fingers of hers when you talk about it.

BuzzFeed’s Coppins: ‘40% chance’ Romney says ‘something stupid’

BuzzFeed reporter McKay Coppins was picked up on a hot mic at today’s Mitt Romney event in Kettering, Ohio, saying there was “at least a 40 percent chance” that the candidate would “say something stupid.”

The remark, picked up on a pool feed, drew some attention among other reporters on Twitter, but Coppins was quick to run damage control: “Looks like my snide comment, caught on livestream, was wrong,” he tweeted. “Romney got the tone just right at this event in Dayton.”

Joy Reid is great. She needs her own show (if she can do it in her own warm, genuine, totally smart and sharp way).

    • AxelFoley

Ouch. Please, Joy, don’t hurt ‘em.

Nah, skip that. Hurt ‘em, boo. Hurt ‘em.

His insides must ache profusely, knowing that he will never be the Commander in Chief.

      Bitter’s ramblings:

“This president is either engaged in a massive cover-up deceiving the American people or he is so grossly incompetent that he is not qualified to be the commander in chief of our armed forces. It’s either one of them,” McCain told Romney volunteers gathered here at a Victory Center.

…”I think it’s interesting to note that when there was a success, such as when, thank God, we were able to get bin Laden, the administration poured out every single detail, even details that put American lives in danger,” McCain said. He later added: “It is my obligation to the men and women who are serving to get the full story out to these four brave Americans have families. They deserve to know why their sons were sacrificed in the needless fashion.”

The 2008 presidential candidate said he believes the storm “froze everything in place while this terrible tragedy fixated the attention of the American people. Now i think they’re ready to get back into this campaign.”
