Tuesday Evening Thread: Santa Claus Go Straight To The Ghetto

3 weeks until Christmas Day and we will feature the classics for your afternoon and evening delights. First up, you know we had to start it off with this one.

    Evil bastards

Santorum tweets on defeat of UN disabilities treaty: ‘We did it’

“We did it,” Santorum tweeted Tuesday. “#CRPD was defeated today. @Patriot_voices will cont to have an impact on important issues. Pls join us.”

The Senate voted 61-38 in favor of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CRPD), five votes short of the two-thirds needed for ratification. Santorum led the charge against the treaty, along with Sen. Mike Lee (R-Utah), arguing that it could allow the U.N. to impose its will on issues such as abortion and home-schooling of children with disabilities.

Democrats and advocates for people with disabilities called those claims nonsense.

    • Ebogan63

This stupid, conspiracy theory about the UN has nothing to do with a treaty on disabled people.

    • Alma98

      Sick sad bastards.

    • Aquagranny911

I so despise these evil goatfiggers, I really do.

    • isonprize

Santorum, who has a child with special healthcare needs.

Wow, he really is evil. EVIL, VILE. MEAN. wow, just wow.

      • Admiral_Komack

It won’t affect him or his kin; they’re entitled.

    • ch555x

The vote total (minus the rules…) just makes it that more bizarre…O_o

  • Miranda

I don’t know whether to laugh or cry!

Do powerful women need to tame their unsightly bulges?

(CNN) — Adele, who won big at the 2012 Grammys, once told Karl Lagerfeld off when he said that she was talented and pretty but a little too fat. Maybe his words got to her.

The British pop star made news this week when she admitted to wearing four pairs of Spanx under a dress that wowed the audiences at the Grammys. Apparently, this was an improvement over her original dress that featured a built-in corset and in which she passed out when she tried it on.

Spanx is a line of undergarments that offers solutions for women of all sizes and shapes. You can target bulging stomachs, jiggling upper arms, aging breasts and any other body part that may need some enhancement. No longer an item of fantasy play or a secret amongst plus-sized women, Spanx products have become prized accessories flaunted by the Kardashians, Oprah and suburban moms.

    more here

    • Alma98

I’ve tried spanx in the past and they did nothing for me. Hanes control top panty-hose worked better I know it’s trifling but I cut off the legs lol.

      • Aquagranny911

I will have to try that! Usually I just let all the lumps hang out because no one wears panty hose in AZ.

        • Alma98

LOL! I did this for the Marine Corps Ball cause I can’t stand panty hose and I needed something to hold in the gut. It worked great I still do it lol.

    • Aquagranny911

LOL about the corset! I remember Granny talking about corsets…

“Designed by the devil, & made by men to torture women!”

  • Alma98

Good evening all, man I feel crappy today not enough sleep.
Here’s one of my favorite Christmas songs.

    • Aquagranny911

One of my favs too! Thanks for the share & sorry you are tired today.

      • Alma98

My hot flashes came back with a vengeance so I’m getting little sleep at night. I’m sweating like a mule, my husband the smart-ass says how does a mule sweat. I asked if he ever wanted to eat again lol.

        • sagittarius

          • Aquagranny911

You are young so don’t laugh too hard. Hot flashes are no joke & I swear I was practically homicidal when I went through it. Very good thing I was not armed because I could have been dangerous especially when sleep deprived!

        • Aquagranny911

My heart to yours! Do you have a small fan? I still keep one on my bedside table that I turn on when I need it & stick my face in it! I would like to tell you that the night sweats go completely away but I am 68 & still waiting. I still get them once in a while

I also kept some of those “church fans” all over my house so I could grab one whenever needed. Sticking your head in the freezer works too.

My other advice is you might have to sleep in a separate room with the window wide open for a while so you can just kick back the covers when you need to. I had the worst hot flashes for several months & I refused to take hormones because I figured my own hormones were good enough for me. Fortunately that happened in the middle of winter in Colorado!

Blessings be upon you & the worst of this will pass!

          • Alma98

I sleep with a mini fan and a glass of ice water on my night stand. I kick the covers off every hour. The hot flashes went away for 2 months and then came back worse than before. I talked with my doctor and she said my body is probably used to the Estroven I was taking. She wants me to think about hrt’s but I’m scared of them, I’m going to research the topic before I decide.

          • Tafr

Hey Alma, do some research on black cohosh and evening primrose oil if you looking to go natural.

          • Aquagranny911

I will also add no red wine, hard liquor or spicy foods. That helped me too & some extra B6 which also balances hormones.

          • Alma98

I was taking estroven it’s all natural and has black cohosh in it. My body got used to it so it doesn’t work any more. I’ll look up your dandelion suggestion I had never heard about it before.

        • jds09

I prefer the term “power surges” lol

          • Alma98

          • Aquagranny911

            LMAO! I’ve got the POWER!

          • AxelFoley
          • Aquagranny911

            I am ROTFLMAO!!!

HE MAN! By the power of Gray Skull!

Did I get that right? My Kiddos loved that cartoon & after I vetted it, I did too & let them watch. I really liked the little homilies they did at the end.

You might laugh but some of my grandkiddos are watching this series on DVD & enjoying it all over again while my Kiddos relive their youth.

            It is a classic!

          • Alma98

            You crazy!

  • Report: Benghazi ‘Talking Points’ Watered Down By CIA, Not White House
    by Mark Memmott
    December 04, 2012 8:00 AM

“A highly cautious, bureaucratic process that had the effect of watering down the U.S.’s own intelligence” led to the controversial “talking points” that U.N. Ambassador Susan Rice used when she spoke about the Sept. 11 attack on the U.S. mission in Benghazi, Libya, The Wall Street Journal reports this morning.

    […] According to the Journal:

“The officials said the first draft of the talking points had a reference to al Qaeda but it was removed by the Central Intelligence Agency, to protect sources and protect investigations, before the talking points were shared with the White House. No evidence has so far emerged that the White House interfered to tone down the public intelligence assessment, despite the attention the charge has received.”

Obama meets with ‘influential progressive media’ on fiscal cliff
By DONOVAN SLACK | 12/4/12 3:54 PM EST

President Obama met with a litany of liberal media personalities on Tuesday to push his tax cut message.

Spotted filing into the West Wing were Arianna Huffington of the Huffington Post and MSNBC’s Rachel Maddow, Lawrence O’Donnell, Ed Schultz and Al Sharpton.

The meeting was not on the president’s public schedule and White House officials initially declined to comment on the meeting. They later issued a statement to POLITICO:

“This afternoon at the White House, the President met with influential progressives to talk about the importance of preventing a tax increase on middle class families, strengthening our economy and adopting a balanced approach to deficit reduction,” spokesman Josh Earnest said.

      • KPrescott80

Notice he didn’t ask any of you on this site to be there.

        Wonder why?

        • Admiral_Komack

Keep looking for your invite, Clueless One.

        • Camille

It probably hasn’t occurred to you that this is not another one of those blog spaces where narcissistic faux progressives try to hatch pseudo careers in television and radio desperate for self-advancement.

This is a citizens blog. Each of us here have a full life and full-time careers.

We are perfectly happy to support and rally for our President anonymously. We do not need face time with President Obama to do the work we must do as engaged citizens.

In these mercenary times when every idiot demands that OUR BELOVED PRESIDENT commune with their mediocre arses, stroke their overblown egos or else— it is understandable that a twit like you with a warped sense of your self and importance with regard to how you measure up to the dignified and brilliant man in the White House, couldn’t possibly understand that there are those of us who just support and love our President with absolutely no strings attached.

          Citizens blog.

Not a wannabe power trip show crap offering tepid “support” but only contingent upon invites to cocktails or tea at the White House so we can join the Arianna hustle – feeling all self-important and shit. Or risk hurting their oh so delicate feelings.

We are proud to do our part in our own way to support our great President in our own quiet and effective way thank you!

No cocktails, tea or face time with the President necessary. That’s not what we are about here.

          Now fuck off.

    • KPrescott80

“…I hope PBO snatched up Maddow, Arianna and Schultz and let them know they can either get down or lay down….”

Or maybe he talked to them like he knows ebonics is not a real language unlike the people here.

Maybe he actually respect that they’re not afraid to offer criticism when they feel he deserves it. Maybe it’s the people who refer to him as “Our Beloved President” that he has no time for.

Did you ever think of that?

  • White House ‘Disappointed’ After Senate GOP Tabled Disabilities Treaty
Igor Bobic 6:46 PM EST, Tuesday December 4, 2012

White House Press Secretary Jay Carney said on Tuesday evening that the administration remained “disappointed” after a large majority of Senate Republicans voted to reject the ratification of a U.N. treaty aimed at securing rights for disabled people around the world. Full statement below:

We are disappointed that the overwhelming majority of Senate Republicans today blocked the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, which would enshrine American standards that have been developed through decades of bipartisan cooperation. Ratification would require no changes to U.S. law, as the United States already leads the world in promoting and protecting the rights of persons with disabilities. However, it would position the United States to support extending across the globe the rights that Americans already enjoy at home. This in turn would improve the lives of Americans with disabilities — including our wounded service members — who wish to live, work, and travel abroad.

Maxine Waters elected ranking member of House financial panel
    Reuters 4:34 p.m. CST, December 4, 2012

WASHINGTON (Reuters) – California Democrat Maxine Waters was elected to serve as ranking member of the House Financial Service Committee, according to an announcement from Waters’ office on Tuesday.

In a statement, Waters said she looks forward to defending the 2010 Dodd-Frank financial regulatory overhaul and plans to focus on housing finance reform.

“I understand that regulatory certainty is an important aspect of growing our economy, and remain committed to ensuring clear and transparent regulation, which creates the space for innovation, safety and soundness,” she said.

    Hola POU!

Someone on another thread mentioned that it would be nice to see a picture of “black Jesus” because we all know he was not blond & blue eyed.

Co-sign that! In Mexico there are representations of Jesus that show him as a man with dark skin. I have a book on old folk retablos which shows Jesus, Mary & many Santos with dark skin. These retablos are paintings on tin done by ordinary people to mark some special event or to give thanks for a blessing.

I will try to do some research on line to see if I can find some pictures or links I can share.

    • Cool! Looking forward to those pics, AQ!

Also, J.A. Rogers’ Sex and Race has pics of paintings depicting Jesus and Mary as Black. His books are definite must reads.

      Wednesday December 15, 1999
Catholic Newspaper Selects Jesus for Millennium
      KANSAS CITY, Mo., (Reuters)

Jesus is being depicted for the new millennium as a dark-skinned peasant with both feminine and masculine features. The multicultural depiction was selected by a progressive Catholic publication as the winner in an international art contest to update the more traditional depictions Christ for the new millennium.

The National Catholic Reporter, a Kansas City-based weekly newspaper with a circulation of about 50,000, chose the painting from more than 1,600 entries because of its creative portrayal of a multicultural Christ, editor Michael Farrell said on Tuesday. Farrell said the contest sparked worldwide interest with entries from 19 countries on six continents.

The winning entry, titled “Jesus of the People,” is in sharp contrast to the blond, blue-eyed Jesus that currently is popular with the Western church, Farrell said. A contest judge described the painting as “a haunting image of a peasant Jesus-dark, thick-lipped, looking out on us with ineffable dignity, with sadness but with confidence.” The winning artist, Vermont resident Janet McKenzie, used an African-American woman as her model, Farrell said. National Catholic Reporter hopes to take the painting and other entries on a traveling exhibition to promote a more inclusive view of Jesus.

“This picture may well be prophetic. Jesus had said he wanted the church to be universal,” Farrell said. “This is an indigenous Jesus… and may be the Jesus who reflects believers in the next millennium or two.”

      Jesus of the People

      • Aquagranny911

I’ve seen that on line while I was looking for Mexican folk representations. “The people’s Jesus” Great share!!!

        • isonprize

AG, I like the subtle symbols in the background – the Asian yin-yang and the Native American feather – that overlay the cross.

Also, I love the fact that the model for the portrait was a woman.

          • Aquagranny911

Caramba! I didn’t know that! I did notice the feather, the yin/yang symbol but I did not know the rest.

This is so cool. Thank you so much for sharing this here.

Thanks all. I thought it was just me.

I know that in a one or two countries in Europe depict the Virgin Mary as black. I want to say maybe Spain and/or Poland, but I forget.

      Found some info:

Seems like Spain and Poland are just two of many in Europe (and around the world) that depict the Virgin Mary with black skin.

      • Aquagranny911

The Polish black virgin! I think I read somewhere about this & may have seen the picture of this statue. The Latino cultures do have many depictions of Santos (holy people) in dark skin especially by folk artists.

  • Netanyahu’s Israeli settlement push could be ballot box boon

    By Jeffrey Heller

    JERUSALEM | Tue Dec 4, 2012 8:01am EST

(Reuters) – For Benjamin Netanyahu, plans to expand Israeli settlements may risk a diplomatic crisis with Europe but could prove a good bet at the ballot box.

With a January 22 election looming, the Israeli leader has defied long-standing international opposition to settlements and announced plans to build at least 3,000 more homes in the occupied West Bank and East Jerusalem after the United Nations’ de facto recognition of Palestinian statehood.

Standing up to Europe, where a string of Israeli diplomats were summoned for reprimands by the governments of Britain, France, Spain, Sweden and Denmark on Monday, could help cement right-wing voter support for the conservative prime minister.

Feds closing in on former Mayor Ray Nagin, court documents make plain
    By Gordon Russell, NOLA.com | The Times-Picayune
    on November 30, 2012 at 7:40 PM, updated December 01, 2012 at 6:23 AM

As a five-year statute of limitations looms, federal authorities are closing in on former Mayor Ray Nagin, unveiling a bill of information on Friday that charges businessman Rodney Williams with bribing the former mayor. Sources with knowledge of the case have said that “Public Official A” listed in the documents is the former mayor.

Williams is expected to plead guilty Wednesday to a charge of conspiracy to commit bribery and honest services wire fraud. When he does so, he’ll become the second businessman who has admitted paying off the former mayor to the tune of $50,000 or more.

The document unsealed Friday offers few new details about what Williams — the former president of the engineering firm Three Fold Consultants — allegedly did. It says that Williams made a series of “payoffs” to Nagin starting in January 2008, and that in return, Nagin steered contracts to his firm starting in November 2007.

Would not surprise me in the least if Nagin is a crook. GWB deserves a lot of blame for Katrina, but Nagin also did not prepare adequately as a Black mayor in a Dem town in a Republican state with a crappy Repub President. Yes the governor at the time was a Dem, but even though I was young, I don’t recall Blanco being much to remember.

Will Smith is a cutie! He never gets “old” & looks as good now as he ever did, imo!

Family we gotta remain vigilant on the bullsh&t that billary is trying 2 pull with Susan Rice and trying to clear out the potential 2016 presidential field. Inevitable my azz!
No black politicians are not going to call them out on it. They will call out the rethugs but not billary. Rev. Al can’t do it cause he is mainstream now. He will try to finesse around it and God bless him for doing that much. Our only weapon is twitter and going after these white journos writing these hit pieces. They may not reply to us but they will respond to our tweets. Remember the Joan Walsh and TruthRose episode and how that made it out of the twittersphere?

Warren tapped for Senate Banking panel

By Vicki Needham and Peter Schroeder

Sen.-elect Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.), one of the harshest critics of the financial sector, is being tapped to serve on the Senate Banking Committee.

The Harvard law professor is expected to join Sen. Joe Manchin (D-W.Va.) on the committee in the next Congress, according to a Democratic Senate aide.

The decision is pending final approval from Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.), but would mean that Warren will play a lead role in overseeing the financial firms that have sparred with her for years over consumer protections and regulations.

Warren originally came to Washington as head of the government’s official bailout watchdog, and later served as President Obama’s architect of the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB), which was created by the Dodd-Frank financial reform law.

She butted heads with congressional Republicans as an adviser to the CFPB, and Obama ultimately selected one of her top deputies, Richard Cordray, to serve as its first director. Warren was recruited by Democrats to run for the Senate from Massachusetts, where she defeated Sen. Scott Brown (R) last month.

    Still Not Getting It…

By Betty Cracker December 4th, 2012

Three middle-aged-to-elderly white conservative men recently discussed ways to broaden the GOP’s appeal. Here’s a key insight from their confab:

I see that the way we will get the Hispanics and the other groups, the Asians, as part of the Republican Coalition is to get them first part of the great American Coalition. Make them think of themselves, not make but, persuade them to think of themselves primarily as Americans.

Oh. Ma. Ga. I don’t think they can hear themselves, friends. Bless their hearts.

    • Aquagranny911

“Primarily American”….QUE? I’ve been thinking of myself as an American for all my life…

wait, uhold up, what did I miss? we got a new troll? We get so few of them

      • MsKitty

You’ll get a kick out of this one. It thinks that the entire community is made up of repressed middle-aged Black women who fantasize about President Obama in that way. I have to say all the POU fellas were less than amused at the generalization, can’t for the life of me imagine why.

        • KPrescott80

It’s true. You trash any and everyone who says any unkind word about “Our Beloved President”. Oh no, Hillary didn’t kiss Susan Rice’s ass enough. She didn’t give a ghetto style support of her. Time to hate.

          • MsKitty

Don’t hate the playa, hate the game.

And of course, all of us black folks are all about the ghetto culture. Thanks for clearing that up. I’m in a constant state of confusion why I’m in the suburbs, it’s so alien, yo.

          • TyrenM

Straight ghetto. I’d bet at least 1/3 of regular posters here make more than K. But wes’ all ghetto dwellerz.

He says he wants a “debate.” I engaged his/her ass last time around to no avail. So never mind. NEXT.

          • GN

And just sayin…were we all here impoverished, wouldn’t make this asshat more profound or us any less so to anyone but a poser or snob.

          • edp4bho

Your fee-fees hurt? Not getting attention in life? Think critiquing “Our Beloved President” gives it meaning? I mean, what do you care what we do? We don’t care about you- get it? You are a sad, sad person who must thank God for the internet to hide behind. Really sad.

          • GN

Scratch a fauxgressive/sole patroller and a deep contempt for black people will come out, every single damn time. There is zero about Susan Rice which evokes ghetto, one, and two, there is not a damn thing to be ashamed of with respect to being black and poor. Silly human behavior transcends race and class; simply, the blacker and poorer one is in the modern times, the more likely to get called out and punished for said bad behavior.

On ‘Fatal Vows,’ the bizarre story of Angelo and Elizabeth. Elizabeth thought she loved Angelo, but Angelo was also very abusive. He hit her, threatened her with guns and violated her with a metal pipe. He threatened to kill her family and also once beat her so badly her lung collapsed. One day, Angelo started attacking Elizabeth, and she stabbed and killed him. But what she found out after was even more shocking: Angelo was actually a woman wearing a prosthetic penis.

Huh?! I will have to look at the video later.

  • KPrescott80

Seriously, the admins here are a bunch of cowards. You claimed to “school” me but only after you ban me to where I couldn’t respond.

Looking at the archives, I see most of you ran from other sites because you couldn’t handle seeing people criticize President Obama. He’s a grown man who can take criticism. It’s you guys who run from a honest debate of President Obama’s performance.

Prove me wrong. let have a honest debate on his performance if you can take it.

    • GN

Delurking. You’re not the first person to come here and get mad, angry, and upset that this space so little resembles much of the “progressive” blogosphere. You are hardly about to change this site, so some quick thoughts for you:

      1. I envy anyone who has nothing better to do tonight than to troll this website.

      2. President Obama has won a second term President Obama has millions of people (including me) who think that he’s done a terrific job in trying circumstances. Get. over. it.

      3. There are any number of sites for people to sit around moaning about unicorns and ponies. Stop whining and throwing tantrums because people here refuse to cater to your demands for a bunch of bitching and nonsense about the single most effective liberal progressive politician in the country.

    • Camille

Oh fuck off asshole. You’re not here to have an “honest debate” since there’s absolutely nothing to debate.

You’re just another small, spiteful, frustrated fucker who can’t stand the fact that so many love, respect and remain in awe of the brilliant, accomplished, intrinsically decent, inspiring, all around amazing, once in a generation President and magnificent man Barack Obama is —and you’ll never be.

It takes a particular strain of consuming madness and serious psychosis to troll sites dedicated to a man you despise-

It takes an even more devastatingly obsessive and self-destructive psychological condition, to hang around long after its been made clear to you that we are quite happy and satisfied to stay holed up in our little President Obama loving and supporting world, stomping your feet in anger demanding the President’s supporters on this blog “engage” you and stop with our love and admiration of our spectacular President Obama-

It must seriously suck to be you. LOL.

This is and will always be a space dedicated to the unyielding, unapologetic and effusive support, love and admiration of the greatest President in a generation: Barack Hussein Obama.

      Deal with it.

    • Ebogan63

Since when has the President of the United States been a performer? You are really just another no mark numpty please troll elsewhere you are not even slightly entertaining.

    • Miranda

Since you have made it clear you don’t actually want to debate, but just troll…..imma have to call the exterminatorhttp://www.offthemark.com/cartoons/1996-05-18.gif

  • edp4bho

POU, I’ve jumped in tonight, and I’m jumping back out. But, as for the troll, I decided I will not respond any more (I did below). People who feel it “necessary” to debate PBO’s performance—you know, I wonder if they had meaning in life before Barack Hussein Obama came along. Never have I seen so much angst over one man. He is one man in billions of people on earth and has had the ability to just upset so many. Strange indeed. To me, it says more about them than him. I see PBO as a regular guy- someone who could be a great next door neighbor. And in that sense, I find him special in the position he holds. Those like the trolls find something deeper, apparently. Enough so that his every move and utterance cause them to revile his simple humility and quiet intelligence. The trolls are very sad indeed. Good night, and my prayers to all who are having challenges in life.

    – – – –Disability Treaty Downed By Republican Opposition
Led by Republican opposition, the Senate on Tuesday rejected a United Nations treaty on the rights of the disabled that is modeled after the landmark Americans with Disabilities Act.

With 38 Republicans casting “no” votes, the 61-38 vote fell five short of the two-thirds majority needed to ratify a treaty. The vote took place in an unusually solemn atmosphere, with senators sitting at their desks rather than milling around the podium. Former Senate Majority Leader Bob Dole, looking frail and in a wheelchair, was in the chamber to support the treaty.

The treaty, already signed by 155 nations and ratified by 126 countries, including Britain, France, Germany, China and Russia, states that nations should strive to assure that the disabled enjoy the same rights and fundamental freedoms as their fellow citizens. Republicans objected to taking up a treaty during the lame-duck session of the Congress and warned that the treaty could pose a threat to U.S. national sovereignty.

    — -SNIP – – –

He and other opponents were not swayed by support for the treaty from some of the GOP’s prominent veterans, including the 89-year-old Dole, who was disabled during World War II; Sen. John McCain, who also suffered disabling injuries in Vietnam; Sen. Dick Lugar, the top Republican on the Foreign Relations Committee; and former Attorney General Dick Thornburgh. Eight Republicans voted to approve the treaty.

The treaty also was widely backed by the disabilities community and veterans groups.

White House press secretary Jay Carney called the vote disappointing and noted that President Barack Obama had declared, in a written statement read in tribute to Dole just before the vote, that “disability rights should not stop at our nation’s shores.”
