In Case You Missed It! PoliticsNation presents “The Great Mittsby”

  • GOVCHRIS1988

First to GreenLadyHere, my condolences to you. I hope you are doing well at this time and you and your family are in my prayers.

Two: Mitt Romney is a damn fool not knowing about his “blind trust” when in 1994, he said that shit was a lie.

Three: This negro here is a muthafuckin disgrace. I know some relatives from Alabama who have a “Don’t let me catch your ass in the street” response to Uncle Artur Davis

Someone needs to tell the negro bitching about the word Uncle Tom: if the shoe fits….

      • GOVCHRIS1988

Well if he doesn’t like that one, Buckjiving Steppin Fetchit is another one I could use for him.

    • MonieTalks

He’s gunning hard for a primetime RNC speech.

WTF is up with all these Black Rethugs stuck in 1980s hairstyles?

      • Ebogan63

They tryin’ to revive fades, but they all look bust down and pitiful.

That isht needs to be TIGHT, but they fail miserably.

        • MsKitty

Seriously. Even Kid from Kid ‘n Play stopped rocking that style years ago and that was his trademark.

Big, fat FAIL goes to ABC’s Jonathan Karl and Matt Negrin for trying to play Captain Save-A-Mitt with this bs article on Valerie Jarrett:

On Obama Adviser’s Disclosure Form: ‘Bermuda’
    By Matt Negrin @MattNegrin
    Jonathan Karl @jonkarl

    excerpt:

In the meantime we’ve spoken to tax experts who have said that the filing could be completely innocuous. It appears that Jarrett borrowed money from JPMorgan Chase, which has a subsidiary in Bermuda — not unusual for insurance companies that want to lay off some of their risks. It doesn’t mean that Jarrett sought any sort of transaction from Bermuda, but rather that the bank could be using its Bermuda subsidiary on credit forms.

In other words, routine credit card statements can include references to Bermuda simply because insurance companies have subsidiaries there.

    MORE: http://abcnews.go.com/blogs/politics/2012/07/on-obama-advisers-disclosure-form-bermuda/

So these two media hacks went digging for info on Team Obama so they can say, “See?? Both side do it!” and found nothing.

    • MonieTalks

Laughing so freakin hard….the hard-hitting expose is that Jarrett borrowed money from JP Morgan Chase, who has a subsidiary in Bermuda……that’s it…really…OMG…WTF

What do they mean by “outsize influence”?? You live in the state, you’re registered to vote…you vote….and by doing so, its an outsize influence if black folks who live there, register to vote and then go vote?

Romney Tries to Pry Away Some Votes in N.A.A.C.P. Speech

    excerpt:
While blacks are expected to solidly back Mr. Obama again this year, he faces challenges in generating the same enthusiasm as in 2008. The level of black turnout could be especially crucial in states like North Carolina and Virginia, where black voters had an outsize influence in the president’s relatively narrow victories four years ago.

Obama’s Kenyan half-brother appears in anti-Obama documentary, declines to criticize him
Dinesh D’Souza, an anti-Obama author and filmmaker, managed to locate the president’s youngest half-brother in Kenya, but could not convince him to criticize his powerful sibling.

By Kristen A. Lee / NEW YORK DAILY NEWS
    Tuesday, July 10, 2012, 12:04 PM

An anti-Obama author and filmmaker managed to locate the president’s youngest half-brother in Kenya, but could not convince him to criticize his powerful sibling.

Dinesh D’Souza, who wrote “The Roots of Obama’s Rage,” interviewed George Obama for his upcoming documentary “2016: Obama’s America” after learning he was living in a hut while his half-brother was running for the White House.

In a clip from the movie obtained by The Hollywood Reporter, D’Souza pressed George Obama to criticize the president for failing to give him financial help.

“I think he has a family of his own,” Obama replies. “He’s supposed to help his family.”

“But don’t you think you’re part of his family?” D’Souza asks.

“I’m part of his family, but I’m overage, so I help myself,” Obama says.

“Let me put it a different way,” D’Souza says, shifting gears to note that President Obama has quoted the biblical command to be one’s “brother’s keeper.”

“You are his brother,” D’Souza said. “Has he been your keeper?”

“Go ask him,” Obama replies with a smile. “He’s got other issues to deal with.”

“Well, he’s taking care of the world, but don’t you start at home?” D’Souza asks.

“Yeah, he’s taking care of the world, so he’s taking care of me,” George Obama says. “I’m part of the world.”

While this NYT article tries to make it seem like Black support for PBO is waning, they inadvertently step on their own message with the last sentence:

“An African-American member of Congress once said that because of Obama his mother now watches cable news regularly and talks to him regularly and heatedly about policy matters.”

And I bet this is true for MANY Black families which is why Romney won’t be able to fool us. We are paying attention now more than ever before, and we can see right through his bs, Tara Wall be damned!

Dang, in today’s celeb gossip…Katie watched enough Lifetime movies to plan that escape for real!

Tom Cruise-Katie Holmes: Disposable phone used to start divorce

Katie Holmes set the wheels in motion for her divorce from Tom Cruise using a throwaway cellphone provided by a friend to initially talk to her lawyers and avoid her husband knowing about the conversations, according to a source familiar with the divorce.

The move allowed her to prepare her legal case without Cruise and his staff knowing she was about to exit the marriage and left him shocked at the sudden divorce. By the time a deal was struck last weekend to end the marriage, she hired three law firms in three states.

Rightwing US thinktank uses FoI laws to pursue climate scientists

The ultra-conservative American Tradition Institute has expanded its legal pursuit of climate scientists, using transparency laws to try to flush out potentially damaging emails.

The strategy – used to seek records from prominent scientists such as Michael Mann – is seen by scientists as an excuse to try to dig up embarrassing or damaging communications that could be used to discredit climate science.

Horner, who holds posts at the Competitive Enterprise Institute as well as ATI, has led the legal pursuit of climate scientists through open records laws.

He has sought access to communications from Michael Mann, the author of the hockey stick graph, the Nasa climate scientists James Hansen and Gavin Schmidt, and this year, Katharine Hayhoe, an atmospheric scientist at Texas Tech University.

Outside Spending Against Sherrod Brown Tops $10 Million

The latest ad attacking Sen. Sherrod Brown tipped the outside spending scales past the $10 million mark against the Ohio incumbent, the most money being spent against any Senate candidate, according to the Brown campaign.

The latest outside attack ad, with a buy of $1.1 million from the Karl Rove-affiliated Crossroads GPS, depicts Brown as the most loyal supporter of the “Obama agenda.” “It’s time to play, ‘Who’s the Biggest Supporter of the Obama Agenda In Ohio?’” an announcer says, as a game show appears on screen. “It’s Sherrod Brown! Brown backed Obama’s agenda a whopping 95 percent of the time.”

The Crossroads ad will run for 10 days in major media markets across the state.

The latest buy is part of a larger $7.8 million buy. A spokesperson for the Brown campaign says the campaign believes the rest of the $6.7 million will be used to attack Brown in the two months leading up to the election.

Tax avoidance is not the American way
By Steve Benen – Tue Jul 10, 2012 4:32 PM EDT.

We still don’t know exactly why Mitt Romney set up a shell corporation in Bermuda, stashed cash in the Caymans, and opened a Swiss bank account. One running theory is that the Republican hoped to avoid paying U.S. taxes through offshore investments in notorious tax havens.

But today one of Romney’s allies stood up for him, arguing that even if Romney was trying to circumvent American tax laws, what’s so bad about that?

Mitt Romney shouldn’t be criticized for using off-shore tax havens because “it’s really American to avoid paying taxes, legally,” Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) said Tuesday. [...]

Graham argued that Congress is responsible for tax avoidance because it has crafted such convoluted rules and said he was fine with Romney’s taking advantage of the loopholes.

“As long as it was legal, I’m OK with it,” Graham said. “I don’t blame anybody for using the tax code to their advantage.”

So, let me get this straight. So long as Romney didn’t commit any actual felonies, the American mainstream shouldn’t mind that they had to pay their tax bill, but Romney could use some creative accounting tricks, send his money to the Cayman Islands, and magically lower his own tax bill in ways average folks can’t.

And this is a defense? From one of Romney’s Republican allies?

For that matter, as the Obama campaign’s Ben LaBolt argued over the weekend, “Mitt Romney is effectively saying he hasn’t technically broken any laws by keeping his money in offshore tax havens. Here’s the question: is not technically breaking the law a high enough standard for someone who wants to be president of the United States?”

If Lindsey Graham is parroting the Romney campaign’s new talking points, I’m afraid Republicans might need a better argument.

Romney Town Hall Supporters Fret About Candidate’s Toughness
    Benjy Sarlin- July 10, 2012, 2:35 PM

Conservative elites have publicly scolded Mitt Romney in the past week for not being either tough or savvy enough to take on President Obama. At a town hall in Grand Junction, Colo., Tuesday questions from the audience suggested the rest of the base might share those concerns.

Romney’s very first question was from an audience member who wanted to know how the nominee would combat attacks in the media — and suggesting the pugnacious Rep. Allen West (R-FL) as a running mate for that very reason.

“We need a fighter,” the questioner said. “I’ve been listening to Allen West talk. He’d make a great VP. He’s a fighter and that’s what we want.”

Romney replied that “all suggestions were welcome,” and said he was thankful that the media now included many friendly outlets he could go through to bypass the major networks and papers. As for Obama, Romney said that “all they’re doing is attacking on every diversion they can come up with,” and said he hoped the president’s campaign would become more substantive.

Another questioner wanted to know how Romney would be able to debate Obama on health care given the similarities between their health care laws, another sensitive spot for Romney. He too offered some advice for how Romney could improve his standing.

“In the debates, I’m sure you’re gonna be hammered about what the other team likes to call RomneyCare, but why don’t you make the point that that’s what the people of Massachusetts put you in there to do and you did what the people of Massachusetts wanted you to do and didn’t force it down somebody’s throat?” he asked.

Romney suggested he generally agreed with the point.

“I sure hope the president brings it up, because I’ll point out the differences between what he did and what I did,” Romney said. He noted that his own law passed nearly unanimously while Obama’s law attracted no Republican votes.

“The business community, the labor community, the advocates for the poor, all came together and said this is a good step forward,” he said. “Not perfect by a long, long measure — by the way, I vetoed a number of measures in the bill and those weren’t upheld — but, nonetheless, it was something we worked out for our own state.”

U.S. rail industry to hire 5,000 veterans in 2012
    The Associated Press
    © July 10, 2012

    OMAHA, Neb.

The U.S. railroad industry expects to hire at least 5,000 veterans this year.

The American Association of Railroads announced the hiring prediction Tuesday as part of the White House’s “joining forces” campaign to foster support for military families.

“The Strategy Behind the Bain Attacks”
    http://politicalwire.com/archives/2012/07/10/the_strategy_behind_the_bain_attacks.html

Democratic pollster Geoff Garin tells Greg Sargent that new polling out tomorrow will show the coordinated attack on Mitt Romney’s experience at Bain Capital is working in five key swing states: Colorado, Florida, Ohio, Pennsylvania, and Virginia.

The poll done for Priorities USA Action will show “a clear jump in the number of voters in those states who are less, rather than more, likely to vote for Romney on the basis of his business background” and “a sizable jump in the number who believe Romney’s priority was making lots of money for himself and his investors, regardless of the impact it had on jobs and employees.”

Explains Garin: “We’ve firmly established that Romney’s tenure was not about creating jobs. This sets the stage for what we’ll be doing later on.”

According to the Obama campaign, the President will “continue to outline his plan to build an economy that is grown from the middle out, not from the top down, where everyone has a fair shot to succeed and plays by the same set of rules.”

Prior to this event, the President visited the home of Jason and Ali McLaughlin in Cedar Rapids where he will discuss his middle-class tax cut plan which would “ask millionaires and billionaires to pay their fair share and let the Bush-era tax cuts for the wealthiest expire, which would help families like the McLaughlins send kids to college, buy new homes, pay for health care and child care, and help the economy recover from the worst financial crisis since the Great Depression.< This is part of the President’s plan to cut the deficit by more than $4 trillion and make investments that strengthen the middle class while cutting spending and ensuring that everyone pays their fair share.”

Conservatives and Republicans who seem determined to keep President Barack Obama and members of his administration away from school buildings, as if they were former Penn State defensive coach Jerry Sandusky, voiced objections to First Lady Michelle Obama headlining a voter registration event Tuesday at a Miami-Dade County public school building.

Miami-Dade board member Renier Diaz de la Portillia called for the event at Barbara Goleman Senior High School in Miami Lakes to be cancelled while another board member, Carlos Curbelo, asked the school board’s lawyer to double check to determine whether the event was legal.

The complaints are reminiscent of Republican and conservative hand-wringing in 2009 over President Barack Obama delivering a back-to-school video address to students. Critics cried that Obama was trying to politically indoctrinate young minds.

Obama Offers Health Insurance To Seasonal Firefighters
By Aviva Shen on Jul 10, 2012 at 6:42 pm

After visiting Colorado Springs, one of the towns most devastated by ongoing wildfires, President Obama instructed officials to offer federal health insurance to seasonal firefighters, the Denver Post reports.

Hundreds of seasonal firefighters—a force comprised mostly of young people and college students—have been battling especially severe wildfires in Colorado and other Western states, risking both immediate danger and long-term health consequences from bronchitis to lung cancer. Obama reportedly told his cabinet upon his return that he wanted to “find a solution” for these firefighters, who are not eligible for federal insurance because they are not full-time workers. Earlier this summer, an online petition garnering 126,000 signatures helped promote the cause to insure firefighters and another Denver Post article highlighted the need:

Obama Defends Access To Contraception: It’s ‘Not Fair’ For Catholic Institutions To Deny Women Birth Control
By Amanda Peterson Beadle on Jul 10, 2012 at 5:00 pm

    excerpt:

REPORTER: He describes himself as a Catholic voter and wrote ‘What can you say about a healthcare bill that’ll mandate insurance companies to provide birth control, sterilization, etc. to employees of Catholic universities, hospitals and churches since this goes against the Catholic religion?’ We know there is compromising language in place. Some say it doesn’t go far enough and that the real, the much bigger issue is religious liberty, not contraception.

OBAMA: Yeah. Well it’s absolutely true that religious liberty is critical. I mean that’s what our country was founded on. That’s the reason why we exempted churches, we exempted religious institutions, but we did say that big Catholic hospitals or universities who employ a lot of non-Catholics and who receive a lot of federal money, that for them to be in a position to say to a woman who works there you can’t get that from your insurance company even though the institution isn’t paying for it, that that crosses the line where that woman, she suddenly is gonna have to bear the burden and the cost of that. And that’s not fair.

Army ending NASCAR sponsorship at end of season

    The Associated Press
    © July 10, 2012

    CHARLOTTE, N.C.

The U.S. Army will not return to Stewart-Haas Racing next season, effectively ending its sponsorship in NASCAR altogether after a decade.

SHR said today it is pursuing a new sponsor.

….The decision to leave NASCAR comes as Rep. Betty McCollum of Minnesota and Rep. Jackson Kingston of Georgia are pushing an amendment that would prohibit military sponsorship of sports.

McCollum lost a House vote a year ago to end military sponsorships of NASCAR, professional wrestling and fishing, but is trying again to have the approximately $80 million in sponsorship cut from the defense budget.

McCollum applauded the Army’s decision to pull out of NASCAR.

“The Army made the right move to eliminate a wasteful program and protect taxpayer dollars – which has been my goal all along,” she said. “Congress is facing a very difficult budget environment, and I want taxpayer dollars protected, even at the Pentagon.

Rep. Jesse Jackson Likely Out Past Labor Day

CHICAGO — Rep. Jesse Jackson Jr. will likely not return to Congress until after Labor Day, a senior aide close to the congressman told ABC News.

The source also denied a rumor reported on the Chicago WLS talk radio show Roe & Roeper that the Democratic congressman’s mysterious absence was due to a suicide attempt. He claimed to have spoken to Jackson as recently as “the last few days,” and said that although he continues treatment at an inpatient facility, the congressman is not facing any life-threatening ailments.

The source, who agreed to speak on the condition of anonymity, declined to provide any details on where Jackson is seeking treatment, but said that he is genuinely suffering from “exhaustion.”

“That’s what he has. He doesn’t get a lot of sleep and he has sleep disorders. He’s very energetic, running full-steam ahead, working six or seven days a week often and he’s been doing that for a long time,” the source said. “There’s a great deal of pressure on him due to unfounded allegations [related to the ethics inquiry] and negative press onslaught against him that are not true, so it kinda all caught up to him. He needed downtime to get away from grind.”

You know how Willard’s campaign keeps lying about his role in Bain after 1999. How they declared that poor Willard was incapable of walking and chewing bubble gum at the same time so he had to leave Bain to focus on the Olympics and whatever happened at Bain after that had nothing to do with him. (Makes you wonder why he thinks he can be President of the United States if he’s so easily flustered, but that another issue.) But you know what I’m talking about, right? The constant denials and lies and spinning. Well, here’s more proof which I’m sure they’ll deny, lie about, and continue to spin. See how that works?

No, Romney Didn’t Leave Bain in 1999

But here’s the thing. I’ve found yet more instances where Romney made declarations to the SEC that he was still involved in running Bain after February 1999. To the best of my knowledge, no one has yet noted these. The documents go into different aspects of Romney’s ownership of various Bain and Bain related assets. But in both Romney had to say what he currently did for a living.

Here are two SEC filings from July 2000 and February 2001 in which Romney lists his “principal occupation” as “Managing Director of Bain Capital, Inc.”

Getting an AIDS test at the drugstore could become as common as a flu shot or blood-pressure check, if a new pilot program takes off. The $1.2 million program will offer the free rapid HIV tests at pharmacies and in-store clinics in 24 cities and rural communities, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention announced Tuesday.

The tests are already available at seven places, including Washington, D.C., Oakland and an Indian health-service clinic in Montana. The CDC will soon pick 17 more locations.

    - – - -Romney’s Top Six ‘I Know I Am But So Are You’ Moments- – -

    - – –Mitt Romney has a way of deflecting criticism that is uniquely his. Where most politicians tend to pivot to another topic if they don’t like what someone is accusing them of, Romney takes an I’m-rubber-you’re-glue approach to attacks, accepting them as true but then simultaneously making the same accusation of his opponent.- – -[LOL- - -HE A PHOOL!!]

Just today, the Romney campaign has started reflecting back allegations of outsourcing by saying that, in fact, President Obama was the one who really outsourced jobs. This is just the latest maneuver of the sort. Here are the top six times that Romney has had a “I Know I Am But So Are You” moment:

    1. Mitt Romney “offshores” jobs, but Obama outsources. When the Washington Post ran a story depicting how Mitt Romney sent jobs overseas during his time at Bain Capital, the Romney campaign rushed to specify that he had “offshored” jobs, not “outsourced” them. But now, the campaign is saying that it was in fact Obama who outsourced jobs, since the Recovery Act funded US-based renewable energy projects by companies that also did work overseas. Those claims have been debunked previously as patently untrue.

    2. Romneycare’s individual mandate is constitutional, but Obamacare’s isn’t. Mitt Romney’s spokespeople have argued that the individual mandate is an “unconstitutional penalty.” Romney called it a constitutional tax. But whatever it’s called, he wants to be clear that Obama is raising taxes and Romney, when he passed a nearly identical bill in Massachusetts, was not. (He did, however, briefly say it was a tax then too)

If you read the article that MonieTalks posted earlier today, you’ll notice some interesting parallels between Mitt’s actions/mentality and that of the Mormon Church regarding the accumulation of wealth. “We look to not only the spiritual but also the temporal, and we believe that a person who is impoverished temporally cannot blossom spiritually.” Now, it’s easier to understand why Mitt isn’t concerned about poor people. If you’re not rich, you don’t count. Simple as that. Something is very wrong here….

Wait. Hold up. You can’t give people condoms in prison even when you don’t segregate HIV positive inmates??? All because certain people think giving inmates condoms promotes sexual practices…WTF!

“The Man” don’t care if these prisoners die or not. They just let ‘em spread shit left and right! And guess what, the people in prison who have sex with HIV positive peers bring it right back to their STRAIGHT female lover and vice versa.

    Sonofabitch!!!

Ugh. That’s why I would rather be alone than be with someone who’s been in jail or the pen for long enough time to be so deprived of sex that they have sex in jail.

    Ugh!

It is so true that at the time right after Magic Johnson’s announcement alot of Black Leaders dropped the ball on HIV/AIDS education and prevention. Alot of ‘em were too busy focusing on HIV/AIDS as a non-social issue. It was a gay white man’s disease, not Blacks.

Julian Bond even said on camera, that he felt bad that he as the acting NAACP Chair at the time did not do enough, and he admitted that he could have and should have done more!

    - – -House votes 240-182 to approve rule covering healthcare repeal- — –

    - – - -The House approved a rule governing debate for the Republicans’ Repeal of Obamacare Act on Tuesday.

Members voted 240-182 in favor of the rule, which sets up five hours of debate that will take place Tuesday and Wednesday.

Democrats strongly oppose the bill, a sentiment reflected in the rule vote. Only four Democrats supported the rule, and every voting Republicans favored it.

    - – -NOTE!!- – ->Democrats voting for the rule were Reps. Dan Boren (Okla.), Larry Kissell (N.C.), Mike McIntyre (N.C.) and Mike Ross (Ark.).

The vote came after a debate that seemed to raise the question of why five hours of debate is needed at all.

Democrats reiterated their arguments that the repeal bill, H.R. 6079, will go nowhere after the House, and that the House is therefore wasting its time. They also noted the repeated attempts Republicans have previously made to repeal all or part of the bill.

THIS- – ->”Never in the history of this Congress … has anybody voted this many times on a single issue,” Rep. Louise Slaughter (D-N.Y.) said on the House floor. “And why? Because we don’t have anything else to do.”

“We’re not trying to make law here, we’re making political points.”

    - – -Christian Taylor leaps his way to London Games - – -

    - – - -Christian Taylor used to bounce around the house when he was little. Now, at 22, he’s a world champion in men’s triple jump. London will be his first Olympics, where he is the favorite to bring home a gold medal for USA Track and Field.

“We actually had to replace the floorboards in the house because I was constantly jumping and they were giving…so that was a problem,” Taylor admits of his ‘jumpy’ childhood. “But I repaid [my parents] now.”

Taylor won the men’s triple jump at the 2011 World Championships at Daegu, South Korea with what one writer described as a “Beamonesque” leap, a reference to former gold-medal winning long jumper Bob Beamon. The former Florida Gator says the Olympics are the “pinnacle” of any sport.

Not only does he want to be considered the greatest – he wants a gold medal.

“[Winning a gold medal] would be a dream come true,” Taylor said. “I couldn’t ask for anything more.”
