Tuesday Evening Thread: Dear Beltway Media – Who’s Ya Daddy?

You gon learn, oh you gon learn today.

  • MsKitty

I do have to say it’s amusing to see my twitter timeline cussing out MSNBC every day without fail. You know these pundits are full of shit and love to hear themselves talk, so why do you think what they say today is gonna be different from yesterday, or even tomorrow? If it stresses you out that much, just turn them off. That people don’t makes me think they’re addicted to the outrage.

    I just don’t get it.

    • Ebogan63

Stopped watching MSNBC a long time ago. My BP thanks me for it

      • JojoRaze

I’ve never watched MSNBC. The first time I watched Ed was when he had the 47% vid guy on-and that was his last show. I saw 15 mins of Rev Al once, but that’s it-and the clips you guys provide here.

      • Aquagranny911

        Mine too!

      • Admiral_Komack

        Word.

    • Miranda

LOL…I consider it a service folks provide free of charge. They watch so I don’t have too.

      • Aquagranny911

Gracias to my Sis watches all that caca so I don’t have to.

      • trose1

I miss so much stuff during the day I know I can read my TL and find out what I have missed.

    • http://twitter.com/Tafr4 Tafr

lovelyladypa is the one I watch when it comes to MSNBC. She has me cracking up because she goes off. I’m gonna have to send her a gift basket.

      • Ebogan63

Love her tweets! Her info is on point as well.

      • Miranda

I swear to you, I firmly believe she is the daughter or granddaughter of one of those little old ladies that PBO worked with back in Chicago when he first started out. She go so hard that I know its family business. She cuss the media out from sun up to sunset!

        • crazycanuck

I know I got up early one morning, and I swear she was already cussing people out lmao.

          • http://twitter.com/Tafr4 Tafr

LOL I know right! It will be 7am but you know from her tweets she has been up a good couple of hours cussing out the media.

        • http://twitter.com/Tafr4 Tafr

LOL she reminds me of my aunt Mary. I love my auntie because she don’t give a damn. You piss her off you gonna hear about it and please don’t be white while pissing her off because you gonna hear all about how your ancestors own slaves lol.

          • Miranda

ROFLMAO!!! Don’t we all have a “Aunt Mary”??

        • MsKitty

She is committed to the cause, I’m not even sure she sleeps. RealBrother is another one. I’m like go out, get a bit of fresh air…we’ll be here when you get back (LOL).

    • nellcote

I like Martin Bashear. He’s been steadfast in support of PBO. And he does a fine job of mocking the goopers.

      • Aquagranny911

Him & Rev Al are the only ones I will watch.

      • TyrenM

Martin on days off. Rev. Al after work. Lawrence. In between his Hillary cheerleading, he cuts through bs after a long day.

  • lamh36

I’m not crazy religious, but I have had these pics on my mind this past wknd, actually since Newtown.

    • nellcote

where are these fotos from? It’s very moving to see that people literally have his back.

    • rikyrah

these is one of my all-time favorite PBO pics

    • Aquagranny911

I love this pic! I think about it when ever I get to worrying too much. PBO is blessed with so much love & prayer. No evil formed against him can prosper.

    • qosine

Powerful. Thanks lamh, for bringing these out.

    • GreenLadyHere

      HEEY lamh36.- – - -BIG HUG*** :>) THANK U sooo MUCH. :>) ***tears/Smiles*** :>)

THIS pic was on the cover of our church bulletin. I was a WRECK that dy. :>) All kinds of emotions!! :>)

      Good 2 C U lamh36. Bless U. :>)

  • Miranda

OK so Keli Goff wrote yet another dumb column? I see @geedee215 going off on her. Apparently Goff ready to award Boehner Nobel PEACE Prize cause he didn’t disown his daughter for marrying a colored.

    • http://twitter.com/Tafr4 Tafr

Shit I bet Boehner gonna up that liquor. Pretty soon he gonna be yellow instead of orange.

    • http://pragmaticobotsunite.blogspot.com/ Sepia

Judging from the excerpts GeeDee tweeted, seem like Keli was rejected by a white boyfriend’s family and is using Boehner’s daughter’s wedding to get out her feelings.

      • Miranda

Yep…she loved some Paul Ryan for his black ex-girlfriend too

      • http://twitter.com/Tafr4 Tafr

I don’t get it. How does she really know how Boehner feels about his son in law? You know Boehner will always be a racist POS in my book. I know white folks that love their bi-racial grandbabies but will call a black person out of their name in a heartbeat. As a black woman Keli should know better.

      • AxelFoley

        Sounds like it to me.

    • Worldwatcher7

Newsflash Keli: Becoming related to Orange Julius is not exactly a milestone in Black History. Some folk in the groom’s family might be just as happy not to be claimed by Boehner.

    • MsKitty

Do we have actual confirmation that Orange Glo isn’t “family”? If you look at some of his kin it makes you wonder a bit.

  • lamh36

I’ve been saying “woosah” all damn weekend. Shit at this point, I’ve graduated to “Nam Myoho Renge Kyo”

  • JojoRaze

Thank you POU for holding it down while these faux controversies raged. PBO and Holder areboth black male lawyers and black in the US for longer than three days. They ain’t tryna get caught out there off some foolishness. I was reassured pretty much last night seeing a bit of PBO’s presser last night while he was telling the media in so many words to stop acting like their reporting on this wasn’t some getback for his jokes at the WHPC dinner and Repub hateration. The economy is doing pretty well-a major sign of this for me in NYC is the amount of pregnant women, or women with babies I see. In 2010-2011, if I saw a pregnant woman,I literally stopped and stared because it was so unusual. Now, baby bumps aplenty from all races and classes. I can read body language pretty well, and I know PBO’s, pretty well, and the way he smiled with his eyes while moving his hands to make his points while talking about Benghazi told me that he had this on lock. i’m still sending prayers up for him, but the media is too transparent with this half-cooked controversies.

That Holder Justice Dept is the pits, I tell ya…..

Restaurant To Pay After Booting Kids With Rare Disorder
    By Shaun Heasley

A restaurant will pay $60,000 after refusing service
to a family all because their kids look different as a result of a
    genetic condition.

The payment comes as part of a settlement announced last week between the U.S. Department of Justice and a Golden Corral restaurant in Westland, Mich. The Justice Department had sued the establishment earlier this year alleging violations of the Americans with Disabilities Act.

In May 2011, Danielle Duford visited the buffet-style restaurant with her four daughters, three of whom have epidermolysis bullosa, a geneticskin disorder that causes blisters as a result of minor injuries or temperature changes. Even though Duford explained the children’s condition to the restaurant manager, emphasizing that the disorder is not contagious, the manager told the family to leave immediately and said that their presence was making other customers “uncomfortable,”
    according to the lawsuit.

    • Miranda

No wonder kids be so mean, learning from mean ass evil adults like this restaurant mgr.

  • creolechild

PBO, and his team, stay winning. The haters in the comments section are losing their minds about this. It’s a thing of unparalleled beauty because no matter what they do, he just keeps on trying to do what he was sent there for…

CBO says deficit problem is solved for the next 10 years

It looks like we’ve moved to talking about possible scandals just in time, because according to the Congressional Budget Office, the debt disaster that has obsessed the political class for the last three years is pretty much solved, at least for the next 10 years or so.[....]

Here’s the short version: Washington’s most powerful budget nerds have cut their prediction for 2013 deficits by more than $200 billion. They’ve cut their projections for our deficits over the next decade by more than $600 billion. Add it all up and our 10-year deficits are
    looking downright manageable.[....]

    • nellcote

Does this mean they won’t have to raise the debt ceiling?

      • Aquagranny911

Maybe. What I read is that we are already under the BS “Debt ceiling” now. That’s why the whole debate got put off from May to October.

    • rikyrah

      duh…winning!!

  • MonieTalks

Just wanted to rehash the spectacular failure of the media involving the early hours following the Benghazi attack….so much is still amiss about this

How ‘Sam Bacile’ Bamboozled the AP, Wall Street Journal Over Anti-Muslim Film

After much speculation that Sam Bacile was a sort of spectral, Keyser Soze figure, the filmmaker was later outed
as Nakoula Basseley Nakoula, a 55-year-old Egyptian Coptic Christian and convicted felon. But not before he was somehow strangely profiled while “in hiding” in The Independent, and partially unmasked in The Atlantic by his co-conspirator, Klein.

…The “credible” mainstream media’s complicity in perpetuating the falsehood is tragic as well. But perhaps more tragic is their collective inability to admit that they were played, and the fact that they posted “updated” stories, and “extras” shedding new light on Bacile, and in the process buried the original, erroneous stories under a blizzard of faux-mystery and spin.

The unmasking of Bacile became a news event in its own right, and the media disavowed its role in creating him in the first place.

You know how POUers have been saying there’s something fishy going on behind the scenes in regards to the AP leak. I think Smartypants may have touch on what the fishiness is:

…But I must admit that my heart skipped a beat when I read what BooMan wrote about this AP story. He speculates that John Brennan might be the target.

The purpose of the subpoenas was to identify the leaker and John Brennan was a suspect in the case and was interviewed by the FBI.
I will remind you of something I said when we learned that – as the head of the CIA – Brennan was going to end their drone program.

This is a big move on both President Obama and Brennan’s part. And I’m sure the backlash in the agency is going to be brutal.
In the comments to that post, Tien Le asked what backlash from the CIA looked like. I didn’t answer at the time – but I’d suggest we might be seeing it now. My guess would be that Eric Holder is not the one
targeting Brennan – but he might be looking for who is.

I’m thinkin I’m have to either blow it out then twist it, or just give up the twist and just keep doing what I been doing and let my hair keep growing length and hoping that gravity helps it along…lol.

I like this braids Bey’s sporting in these pics. I’ve been told they plain ole box braids like back in the day and people weren’t wearing ‘em for a while instead wearing microbraids, but then Bey and a few more peps started wearing em and then they made a comeback.

I took the Senegelese twist I had out this past weekend. I like to give my hair some breathing time between braid styles. I usually get twist (kinky or Senegelese) and have never actually gotten a “braided” style. I’m thinking the next time I do I’ma get some like Bey’s I like how they look.

Why Washington scandal-mania may save Medicare and Social Security

By Greg Sargent, Published: May 14, 2013 at 3:41 pm

The Monica Lewinsky scandal may have helped save Social Security in the late 1990s. Now the scandal fever currently gripping Washington — IRS, Benghazi, Associated Press phone records — may save Social Security and Medicare two decades later.

Liberals who are dreading the scandal-mania that is taking hold should note that it contains a potential upside: It could make a Grand Bargain that includes cuts to Medicare and Social Security benefits even less likely than it already is. That’s because when scandal grips Washington, a president actually needs his core supporters more than ever to ward it off, making it harder to do anything that will alienate them.

There is precedent for this. President Bill Clinton long entertained ambitions to dramatically reform Social Security, but those plans were shelved amid the Lewinsky crisis. While there is some argument over whether the crisis was the cause, it did make him more reluctant to alienate Democratic supporters. As John Harris put it in his book about the Clinton presidency: “Come 1998, when Clinton needed every Democratic vote possible in order to survive the Republican attack over Monica Lewinsky, the work of challenging his own ground to a halt. He had no political latitude to push for the reform of the entitlement programs for the aged.”

To be sure, the current state of scandal mania in Washington is still light years away from the late 1990s. There’s no telling how serious the IRS and Associated Press stories will prove or whether they’ll ever be directly tied to Obama himself, while Clinton was directly on the hook for perjury and sexual conduct. But if the Obama scandal train continues down the track — as Paul Waldman argues persuasively that it will — it will likely make any Grand Bargain a virtual impossibility.

Indeed, some leading liberals and labor officials are hoping this proves to be the case if the scandals continue. “We don’t know what’s going to happen with this scandal talk,” Mike Lux, a leading progressive strategist who fought in the Clinton impeachment wars, tells me. “But one thing I do know from the Clinton years is that presidents need their bases completely fired up and fighting for them when the scandal stuff hits. Anything that President Obama does to alienate the base, like cutting Medicare and Social Security, would hurt him badly when he needs the base to the maximum. The scandal talk makes a Grand Bargain less likely.”

      • qosine

        Isn’t this a bunch of bulls^*&^*, AG?

      • Ebogan63

as I tweeted to greg earlier: the GOP will NEVER give PBO a victory, hence talk of any’ grand bargain’ is irrelavant.

    • jziglar

These people need to realize that social security and Medicare have been adjusted time and again over many decades. Making common sense reforms that don’t affect beneficiaries and extend the life of these programs is not a bad idea. With all due respect, I think this is all nonsense! President Obama has never been interested in undermining SS, Medicare, or Medicaid! Never! What he has offered, in the so called “grand bargain” are reforms that would strengthen all those programs not weaken or undermine them.

Coming Cuts to Safety Net Hospitals Reinforce Importance of Medicaid Expansion
    May 14, 2013 at 2:50 pm

Health reform cuts supplemental Medicaid payments for hospitals that serve many low-income and uninsured patients because the need for such payments should shrink as more low-income people gain coverage through the law’s Medicaid expansion. The Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) has now issued a proposed rule to allocate these cuts among the states — and the rule makes clear that adopting the Medicaid expansion is the right choice for states.

That’s true for two reasons. First, under health reform the federal government will largely pay for the Medicaid expansion. Second, the states will face cuts in these hospital payments — the so-called “disproportionate share hospital” (DSH) payments — whether or not they expand Medicaid.

Health reform cuts DSH payments by $18.1 billion through 2020. The cuts start at $500 million in fiscal year 2014, when the Medicaid expansion first takes effect, but they grow sharply in later years, to $5.6 billion in 2019 and $4 billion in 2020.

The CBO’s Projected Budget Deficits Just Shrank by Hundreds of Billions of Dollars

The Congressional Budget Office just did a new series of baseline budget deficit projections (PDF) and they’re a lot lower than the old ones. The short-term deficit, in particular, is way lower. We’re looking at a $643 billion deficit for 2013 rather than an $845 billion one. That’s about half higher-than-expected tax revenues and about half higher-than-expected payouts from Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac. In both cases what we’re seeing is that a stronger-than-expected economy leads to a smaller-than-expected deficit.

But they’re also revising the 10-year deficit forecast down by $618 billion, primarily because of the slowdown in health care spending.

Now the trick here is that the important budget deficit problem is actually outside the 10-year window. The current projection has the deficit shrinking for the next couple of years and then growing again. That leaves us with a very manageable 2024 deficit. The problem is that it’s trending upward. And nothing in this revised projection changes that fact. Under current law, the deficit will bottom out in a few years and then grow and grow forever.

The flipside, though, is that there’s really no need to panic or think that there has to be a grand bargain. What we need are more measures to reduce the cost of health care and more measures to boost economic growth.

I expect the goopers to take credit with the sequestration bringing down the deficit.

That’s funny because they blamed the sequester on Obama and called it the obamaquester.

but that was after they cheered passing the sequester. It’s hard to keep up.

  • lamh36

Hmm, so I posted the following over at Booman. If you are able to post over there, please go see it and see the one response to it. I was gonna respond point by point, but I figured why even bother.

Can someone please explain to me what it is that AG Holder has done even before this AP stuff that has had member of the right and the pseudo-extreme left in agreement that he is one of the worst AG ever.

Even before this AP story, it seems to me, and I admit to being new to following politics, that almost since his confirmation, the groups I mentioned have been unhappy with Holder.

I ask because even before all was alleged and known about the AP story (i.e. just the AP’s broadside against DOJ nothing else) there has been a seeming additional drumbeat from the left calling on Holder to either resign or for Obama to fire Holder (I say additional, because the GOP has never liked Holder and have wanted him out since the 1st term).

I know I’ll just be branded an Obot, but whatever, I genuinely like to know where this has come from. If the left doesn’t like Holder and the right doesn’t like Holder, then ????

    • nathkatun7

Lamh36, unfortunately I was not allowed to respond to support you. I know you are trying to be fair, but as far as I am concerned the attacks on both the President and AG Holder are all about their race. These are two very smart Black men who don’t buy into drama and are not easily intimidated as they go about doing their jobs. You see, both the right and the left love their Blacks that they can control. The fact that President Obama and AG Holder make decisions that they consider to be in the interest of the country without caving to the dictates of the “holier than thou” white progressives, is driving them crazy. This nothing new with white progressives. White progressive Republicans abandoned Reconstruction and we ended up with the Jim Crow period. White Democratic
progressives supported Woodrow Wilson who systematically installed segregation in the federal government. So called white Progressives abandoned Jimmy Carter and Al Gore and gave us Ronald Reagan and George W. Bush. Even before he took the oath of office white so called Democratic progressives began attacking President Obama demanding that he implement their unrealistic radical programs that had absolutely no chance of being passed in Congress.

They just couldn’t wait to jump on the bandwagon in attacking the President and the AG, even before they knew all the facts. To be perfectly honest, I am sick of the “holier than thou” Progressives who are good at criticizing, but are lousy when it comes to organizing to get things done.

    • morphus

Single issue marijuana advocates on the left and right hate AG Holder. His DOJ will be herald in history books as most active in decades. He’s shutting down medicare fraud, taking over abusive police departments, and rooting out fraud under the guise of business in federal agencies across the board. Those squealing about PBO’s administration’s “attacks” on biznesses, AG Holder is their target.

NAACP members and leaders watching the excitement over the IRS’ alleged targeting of tea party groups might be wondering where the outrage was in 2004, when the IRS, then during the George W. I almost broke my code of never getting in an argument on Facebook. Someone said it was President Obama fault that the Marines didn’t have all the ammo they needed. This is so stupid it hurts. First Congress is has the power of the purse. Secondly, Maybe if Congress stop those failing weapons systems or close unnecessary bases maybe the Marines would have the ammo they need. Maybe the generals need to manage their funds better.

5-Year-Old NJ Boy Uses ABCs to Save Dad’s Life

The two were driving home from buying Nathaniel Dancy Jr. school shoes when Nathaniel Sr. suffered an aneurysm and stroke, making him violently ill, according to a report by New York’s NBC Channel 4 News. (NBC reported his name as Nathaniel Darcy, but Nathaniel Jr.’s school, the public North Star Academy Charter School, confirmed for Yahoo! Shine it was Dancy). He was able to pull the car over, but then got out of the car, vomited, and became paralyzed by a seizure. That’s when Nathaniel Jr., who is in kindergarten, sprang into action, grabbing his dad’s phone and calling his grandmother.

“He said, ‘Come and help me and my daddy. We’re in trouble,’” Susan Hardy-Blackman told NBC New York. She asked him where they were, and, though her grandson was unable to read the sign on the store they were in front of, he spelled it for her: F-U-R-N-I-T-U-R-E. But she was still confused. And that prompted the young boy to be persistent well beyond his years.

“He said, ‘Grandma, use your active listening skills,’” she said. “‘Listen to the words that are coming out of my mouth.”

-a- -Julian Bond Defends IRS Targeting Of Tea Party Groups, Says They’re ‘Racist’ – -
    - -After an IRS official acknowledged that the agency flagged some 75 conservative groups for additional reviews due to their names including the words “tea party” or “patriot,” Tea Partiers and the people that suck up to them lost their collective minds.
    - –SNIP – –
Meanwhile, Julian Bond, chairman emeritus of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP),
offered an alternatively refreshing view about the IRS targeting of Tea Party-affiliated groups earlier Tuesday morning on MSNBC.
Bond said he didn’t think the federal government is wrong for
signaling out the conservative groups for extensive reviews given that they are “overly racist.”

Back in 2006, the NAACP was the subject of its own controversial review from the Internal Revenue Service, after they criticized then-President George W. Bush during the 2004 presidential campaign. Ultimately, the IRS ruled that the nation’s oldest civil rights organization “continued to qualify” as tax-exempt.
In an interview with The Washington Post, Bond said of the investigation: “It was an enormous threat” and noted
that had the IRS revoked its tax exempt status it “would have reduced our income remarkably.”
    – -SNIP –
“I mean, here are a group of people who are admittedly racist, who are overtly political, who tried as best they can to harm President Obama in every way they can,” Bond explained.“[The Tea Party] is the Taliban wing of American politics and we all ought to be a little worried about them.”
