Cracks emerge in House GOP on shutdown strategy
By Bob Cusack – 10/01/13 03:12 PM ET

Cracks are starting to emerge among House Republicans on their government funding strategy.

A handful of Republicans in the lower chamber on Tuesday embraced a “clean” continuing resolution (CR): Reps. Pat Meehan (Pa.), Jon Runyan (N.J.), Scott Rigell (Va.), Mike Fitzpatrick (Pa.) and Frank Wolf (Va.).

They joined Rep. Charlie Dent (R-Pa.) and GOP New York Reps. Pete King and Michael Grimm, who endorsed a clean CR earlier this week.

A “clean” bill would not include provisions to delay or defund ObamaCare, and is supported by the White House and Senate Democrats.

Entire OSU Team Hugs Sports Anchor who Lost Daughter (Watch)
    October 1, 2013

Longtime Columbus Ohio sports anchor Dom Tiberi lost his 21-year-old daughter earlier this month in a deadly car accident. And when he returned to work this weekend to cover the Ohio State Buckeyes’ victory over the University of Wisconsin-Madison, he got an unexpected outpouring of emotional support from his home team.

WBNS’ cameras caught Tiberi’s reaction as nearly every member of the team stopped to hug him on their way from the field to the locker room, reports Mediate.
“Whoa, that was amazing,” a visibly shaken Tiberi said after the onslaught of hugs.

Condoleezza Rice Should be Howard’s Next President
    Posted On Oct 01 2013
    By : JL Carter Sr

…Dr. Rice is fiscally and socially conservative, a perfect fit for
Howard’s culture of student recruitment and development. Her intellect
and humor have allowed her to transcend race and gender at the highest levels of influence in domestic and international policy shaping. Along the way, she has made friends and allies with global influencers who have the financial wherewithal to turn Howard into the nation’s top institution of higher eduction, no HBCU or PWI excluded.

Students, current and potential, would be drawn to her star power and her academic prowess. And her guide for personal and professional excellence would build upon an already respected brand in Washington and throughout the nation. Alumni may be chilly on welcoming Dr. Rice into the HU fold because of her politics, but she has never lacked for charm, has never been held in universal contempt by black America, and could easily communicate a plan and a passion for making Howard reach its ultimate potential.

Plus, the noted sports fan could turn around HU’s sports program in about a week.

    • Alma98

      NO! uh uh no way!

    • dannie22

whoever wrote this has been drinking. also, the student body wouldnt stand for it. i remember when howard wanted to bring lee atwater to the board of trustees. students protested til he resigned

    • By that logic why not cut out the middle man and make Dick Cheney the next university president?

      • Admiral_Komack

        Great idea!
And if the alumni don’t pony up the cash…he’ll shoot them in the face.

    • Tafr

What star power? Do not get me wrong I believe Dr. Rice is a smart, accomplished woman. However, we all know her dirty deeds while working for Bush. Why should this accomplished, respected, college absorb all that? She is lucky that she is not doing time.

      • MonieTalks

I’m trying to figure out whose administration she was “fiscally conservative” in, because it sure as hell was not GWBush.

    • MonieTalks

uh huh…..add this so-called Blackacdemic to the list of “PBO can’t really connect to us real black folk. You can’t spot this type a a mile away

      Barack Obama’s Morehouse Moment

…And that may be President Obama’s biggest challenge in crafting his impact as America’s first black president on black people in the 21st century. His belief in the individual potential of black people is instantly recognizable, but his disconnection from creating attention
and support for systems which specifically cultivate and inspire black people to realize that potential has been startling.

    • Lisa M

Well…the powers that be at one time thought it would be a good idea to place Lee Atwater on the board.

Last word on the people upset that ObamaCare servers were overwhelmed (websites with info on both the federal and some state exchanges): honestly people need to calm down and not fall for the media concern trolling and trying to turn lemonade back into lemons when it comes to this program. To me, it’s kind of like someone opening a new store and being fairly sure that customers will come, but not quite sure, as so many competitors have been gleefully anticipating a dud. Then at grand opening, the store’s staff can barely keep up with the number of customers crashing through the doors, run out of business cards/brochures, etc. That’s not a bad thing; it’s a success. Many thanks to the President, to Speaker Pelosi, Leader Reid, and the many people who made a decades-long effort into a reality. That the only issue today was too much demand for information about the Affordable Care Act is a triumph considering how much misinformation and fear-mongering there is about ObamaCares (as exemplified by Chuckles Todd announcing that it’s not his or the media’s job to correct GOP lies and inform the public of fact). This was a good day for healthcare reform and people should enjoy it IMO, don’t worry about the beltway press always finding something sour to say. Congrats to the early birds who are already signed up via the exchanges.

    • crazycanuck

People acting like this is the first time they have heard of the internet lol.

      • gn

It’s the beltway media IMO. Most of them always have a little something negative to say about anything which PBO does, and a lot of people innocently absorb their messaging. I thought the high demand overwhelming expectations was a really good sign. As of earlier today, two million people had accessed the NY site alone.

    • qosine

Exactly, gn. I plan to enroll in Obamacare and tried to sign in a couple of times. I figured high demand!! No prob. I’m waiting a few days– the deadline is Dec. 15th to get benefits Jan. 1. Since
I live in TN, all media has been full on blast euphoria at the gov. shut down and lying non-stop about Obamacase (that part’s not new). Their hatred knows no bounds. None. Thank God for the internet and sites like this.

      • gn

I’d be really interested to hear your experiences signing up, and next year, how you like it. 🙂

        • qosine

          I’ll definitely let you know:)

      • Aquagranny911

Good luck & do let us know how this all works for you. It is muy important that we share not only information but experience here. We are & must continue to be “our own media.”

        • qosine

Oh, I will AG. It’s critical to tell and pass on
real life stories to push back on the lies.

    • Tafr

What gets me is that folks are acting like people are going to give up on getting this information and healthcare because they had to wait to get on the site. This is not a movie ticket or an X box wait line. Do they honestly believe that people are going to give up on getting much needed healthcare because they had to wait to get on a site? Seriously some folks are too much.

      • Admiral_Komack

“This is not a movie ticket”
If the movie is good, I’ll wait in line…or come back at another movie time when it is not crowded.
I’m glad people are getting help with ObamaCare/ACA…and people will not be stopped.

    • Aquagranny911

Brava! People who need health care will not give up. They will keep trying.

      • gn

So true! Just like Rikyrah said, this is real, and people looking for insurance will have the patience of Job when it comes to waiting for website servers to catch up with demand. Fantastic accomplishment, and the proof is in the pudding with how many people rushed onto ACA exchange websites today.

    • gn

      In an nutshell:

Recent criticism of Obamacare seems to have been written by Yogi Berra: Nobody is using the exchanges; they’re too crowded.

    • Admiral_Komack

I didn’t sweat the “ohhhh, the servers are down” stories.

    – – — –As Obamacare Sign Up Begins Tea Partiers Are Fighting A Battle They’ve Already Lost

    – – – — –Most Americans understand it is autumn in 2013, and that it has been nearly a year since voters re-elected Barack Obama to serve a second term as President. According to a poll released yesterday, by a margin of two-to-one, respondents said “the results from the 2012 presidential election represented a referendum on moving forward with the Affordable Care Act” that has been the law of the land since March 23, 2010. However, for Republicans it is still 2010 and they are fighting to defeat what they imagine is a health insurance reform bill in Congress even though the Supreme Court ruled the ACA was constitutional in 2012. To impress on Americans they are still fighting the health law, they shut down the government. – —[LOL]

Now that it is October 1 and Americans can begin signing up to buy affordable healthcare insurance, it is unlikely that reality will sink
in to Republicans in Congress that the next phase of the Affordable Care Act is underway and that their man-god, Ted Cruz, is just another deranged teabagger; albeit one Republicans admit is leading congressional Republicans. Traditionally, in both houses of Congress there are procedures for picking the leader of each party that worked for a couple of hundred years, and it is true that John Boehner was elected as Speaker of the House, but he is just a sycophant answering to Ted Cruz.
It is apparent that Boehner took Cruz’s order to heart when he told Republicans to “defund this bill that isn’t working, that’s hurting the American people.” However, according to the poll released yesterday, only 7% of voters support delaying or defunding the health law and in fact, 39% want Congress to expand the law even
    – —-[HAH! :>)]

    – — TELL -‘EM —Antoine. — — -LOL

    • Tafr

The teaparty freak republicans may be nasty but they are smart enough to know that the ACA is a big deal. They know that once it takes hold that it will take an act of god to take it away. Not only that the ACA is going to be one of PBO biggest accomplishment, it is part of his legacy, this is going in the history books.

      • jziglar

True, and like any big program (Social Security, Medicare) it’s near impossible to end it once it’s implemented. And they also fear that the program will expand over the years like the others (ie. public option, increased benefits)

        • Tafr

Yup most of them have spent their sorry careers trying to end these popular programs. As we all can see it does not work. These people are beyond evil. Don’t you love how they call programs that we pay into handouts?

          • jziglar

I know, it’s not a handout if the people pay for it.

  • jziglar

John Boehner and his leadership team are the most incompetent in the history of this republic. How do you come up with a strategy to corner the democrats through piecemeal bills and fail to take a count on the level of support ? They just put up the bills and hope there is enough support to pass it.

    – – —-PHOTOS: World War II Veterans Force Open WWII Memorial During Shutdown

    — — –The shutdown of the federal government on Tuesday closed down memorials across the country, including many within Washington, DC. All of those on the National Mall were barred from the public when the shutdown became official. That wasn’t about to stop a group of World War II veterans who had traveled from Mississippi to see the memorial erected in their honor. Undaunted by the barriers set up by Park Police, the veterans andthose accompanying them stormed the memorial, drawing the attention of journalists and politicians alike.

According to Stars and Stripes reporter Leo Shane, who took many of the pictures at the scene, Rep. Steve King (R-IA) distracted U.S. Park Police while the barriers were being moved to allow the veterans access. Veterans from Iowa soon followed those from Mississippi, with no signs that the Park Police meant to evict any of them anytime soon. While a Parks official told Jacob Fischy of Buzzfeed that the park remains legally closed, they were “unsure if security tapes will be reviewed or anyone will be prosecuted for trespassing.” Meanwhile, despite their members causing the shutdown, the National Republican Congressional Committee is now using the veterans’ reclamation of their memorial to add email addresses to their mailing list.

Offering Obamacare in 150 languages is absurd. If someone can’t speak enough English to fill in forms, what will they explain to a doctor?
