Kansas Bill Permits Doctors to Refuse to Administer Chemotherapy to Pregnant Cancer Patients

The Kansas Senate has approved a bill that literally prioritizes a doctor’s personal beliefs over women — currently alive, breathing women — by permitting doctors and other healthcare providers to refuse medical care to a pregnant woman if such care might end her pregnancy. And here’s the kicker: the healthcare provider would not be under any obligation to refer the patient elsewhere.

    *blank stare*

So, if a woman develops breast cancer while pregnant, or if a woman with breast cancer becomes pregnant, her doctor could refuse to provide chemotherapy treatment to her, and the doctor would not have to tell her why she was being refused to treatment and would not have to refer the patient to another doctor who would provide chemo.

When folks say the elections are a matter of life or death…its not hyperbole.

    • QOakaJP

Crazy. We can’t even take our own life-saving health into our hands anymore? Talk about “death panels.” Incidentally, I was just was reading an article about how AA’s, in general, and especially AA women, are often not offered the full array of cancer treatments available…

      • isonprize

QoakaJP, True!! The buzz phrase to research is “Healthcare Disparities”

When it comes to most every diagnosis from autism to cancer, from alzheimer’s to diabetes, black folk get diagnosed later, get treated less and die earlier/ more often.

Watching the Ed Show, and he had Fineman on.

Ed asked why Willard didn’t say SHYT about the auto bailout WHILE HE WAS IN MICHIGAN TODAY.

I thought that was the funniest post I read today..

Yesterday, he was being all big and bad and ‘ the auto bailout was my idea’ in Ohio.

24 hours later he gives a 2,500 word speech and doesn’t say ‘ auto bailout’.

Willard is such a coward. He truly thought that he could say anything, and nobody would fight back.

You were dealing with amateurs and grifters, Willard.

But, NOBODY is playing with you at the Prudential Building.

    • Miranda

And amazingly his speech writer really didn’t think anyone would notice.

Mark my words, next faux-outrage, DNC Convention shouldn’t be in North Carolina! Who will be the first to say that? I have my bets!

    • Miranda

Oh its definitely gonna be some hyperventilating over the convention being in Charlotte….but I think Mecklenburg County voted against the Amendment so the folks in Charlotte can safely say “wasnt us”

      • Bri

I don’t live in NC, but people cannot blame “us” for it’s passage. Many black NC said they voted against it.

      • Admiral_Komack

        Yeah, that’ll stop them :-(

    • Bri

POTUS and Debbie will definitely get pressured to move it to another state. It’s unfortunate that Admendment 1 passed.

      • crazycanuck

It passed, Hmm, have they started blaming AA yet?

        • QOakaJP

          Blame hasn’t stopped since 11/4/08.

          • Bri

The blame won’t stop either. We are a small percentage of the U.S. population, but many blame us like we are the majority or close to being it.

          • edp4bho

They still blame us for putting ourselves into slavery. Nothing new.

          • Heads-on-right-in-Cali

Wonder why Good Ole Bill Clinton never had to deal with the outrage over LBGT rights? Hell, he’s the one responsible for DADT. No the “black president” has to take the heat. Cracks me up that as a people, we are expected to always “turn the other cheek” while others try to destroy us. It is up to the people of North Carolina to stop discrimination in their state. The President of the United States, has a lot of other shit to do.

          • QOakaJP

Not only do they not blame Clinton, they’re now using the old “even the Clintons said…” angle to lay blame and shame on PBO for not speaking in the ways they deem acceptable (his hard work to advance LGBT rights over the past 3 years be damned.)

        • Alma98

They better not NC is almost 70% white, 68.5% to be exact.

          • Camille

            Never stopped them.

Prop 8 in California. 6% black. Only 3% of whom vote. But didn’t stop the vicious attacks on African Americans.

          • Bri

I had to look up the percentage of AA in CA back in 08′ after seeing Maddow, MHP, etc., go all in on us for Prop 8 passing. AA make up about 13%(38 million) of this country’s population according to the 2010 U.S. Census, but man we sure as heck get blamed like we are “deep” in the U.S.

Ok, here’s the thing, I am now going to have to put TOD in the same column as JJP (sorry rikyrah), while I am gonna leave it on my blog roll, I’m not gonna be commenting as much there for awhile. It’ll still be my go to place for pictures and updates, but it’s become obvious (please check out Chips new post) that despite another BWD freak-out, that Chips has bought it hook line and sinker and it doesn’t matter that BWD has on a daily/weekly/monthly basis has a different freak out and demands she can do no wrong and it is everyone else’s fault for being mean to BWD?

Whatever! I’m through for a while now, I’m going to lurker status as of tomorrow.

ETA: and please people who comment over at TOD too spare me the but BWD…. I’ve had enough and I don’t wanna hear it.

    Good night POU.

    • RinaX

I agree with you. I had stopped posting there for the most part anyways because I was tired of a certain troll being allowed to continue posting there simply because they’re smart enough to post a lot of news articles along with their trolling. But I was through with BWD a long time ago. One thing I can’t stand is someone who’s always throwing a tantrum and threatening to leave, and I can’t count the number of times she’s done that.

Now, BWD was a bright spot when the GOS really went to crap, but you can’t keep relying on your past reputation every time you decide to go full emoprog, and then whine when people aren’t just patting your hair and telling you how great you are.

Dang, lamh, you and I are on the same page. Was just thinking this about 25 minutes ago….LOL. And you are so right about BWD. In fact, I’m tired of all this bullshit. I just began watching cable again due to we have 6 months to deal with to November, but all this shit is taking up way too much of my precious time. Too many have put BWD on a pedestal and cried with her when she was run off of KOS. Cry me a river. And now here’s LOD dramatizing the new so-called swift boat bs from rethugs. Lord knows, I’ve never liked politics, and these creatures remind me just why I don’t. As soon as PBO is out, so am I.

      • Bri

BWD’s response on SSM is why Dems LOSE. She is trying to FORCE his hand on a topic that he obviously is not trying to discuss in great detail. I am pretty sure many over at TOD will be demanding soon that the DNC convention is moved.

        • Admiral_Komack

Also, IF President Obama were to do EXACTLY what the emoprogs wanted him to do on this subject, the emoprogs would just trot out Dan Choi and his latest chain-link fence to sniff that it wasn’t enough, he should have done it years ago, he’s just a politician, he was pandering, it’s an election year, and why didn’t we all get our pony that shits sparkles…

          Fuck them.

Let Willard have his way with them.

    • Aquagranny911

I’m with you lamh! I will go for the pics & the links to PBO but I am done with the comments & the BS.

      • crazycanuck

It’s sad that Chipsticks doesn’t see how extremely condescending that post was. Saying things to a grown man like he was five years old. That was such a WTF moment for me.

Still can’t believe she rubber stamped that nonsense. She seems to be upset at the responses to the post. So BWD can post any foolishness, and everyone should just say “oh bwd we totally agree”.

IMO any PL who comes on that blog posting their purity crap should not be told to leave, because it’s pretty dam clear she agrees with that kind of thinking. Quite frankly it put a ‘stain’ on that blog for me.

        • TheShyLurker

Yeah. I’mma have to dock TOD 47 points for today.

And I don’t even think people were rude to BWD to be honest, as way the moderator described it. Folks were respectful but stern. And frankly, tired of her BS. But she is teacher’s pet so what do I know.

The moral of the story is: If one’s thoughts are front paged, don’t expect errebody to kiss that ass! I wish Chipsticks hadn’t done that, it only exacerbated the issue resulting PUSHBACK.
          Well deserved comeuppance, imo.

I respect the passion, but not the knee-jerk PL conforming freakout sessions this chick is prone to. That’s why I loves me some POU. Y’all tell it like it is – without the follicle plucking.

          • crazycanuck

You have a way with words. I totally agree, I don’t think people were disrespectful either.

I love POU also, this blog just rocks. Smartest peeps on the net.

          • edp4bho

Must agree. POU is the ticket !!

        • Camille

Everybody seems to think that showing any support for this President automatically means you get dictate his every move.

        • edp4bho

“Quite frankly it put a ‘stain’ on that blog for me.”

Did it for me too. I’ll check out the pictures for what they’re worth, but that was a pot calling the kettle black moment for me. The original post was disgraceful and had no real place in a public setting. It was, after all, a personal letter to PBO. It should have remained so. It was posted as a way to get sympathy- how deceitful !

    • MsKitty

Against my better judgment I went over and saw that post. Really? You put up something incendiary and divisive and then catch the vapors when people call you out on it? That’s some real passive aggressive bullshit right there. I CAN’T STAND IT when people do it in real life, I’m sure as hell not going to willingly subject myself to it.

That was the final nail in the coffin for me. TOD now goes in my virtual dustbin with DKos, Balloon Juice, Field Negro, among others. There’s a kazillion other sites where I can get PBO video and pics, so no great loss at the end of the day.

Surplus is first of Obama’s presidency
    – – –

    — – -The U.S. government recorded a budget surplus of $58 billion in April, the Congressional Budget Office estimated on Monday, breaking a streak of deficits that began in 2008.

The surplus — the first of Barack Obama’s presidency — was the result of both increased tax collection and lower government spending. Before April, the government had not run a surplus since September 2008, the month that the financial crisis struck the U.S. economy. Read CBO report.

The CBO’s estimate is released before the Treasury Department’s monthly budget report. That report is scheduled for later this week.

    – -CBO estimated that receipts were $30 billion higher in April than the same month a year ago, due to declining refunds that month and higher corporate income tax receipts. Spending fell by $69 billion compared to April 2011, marked by lower outlays on defense, Medicaid and the Postal Service.

Government spending and deficits are shaping up to be a main issue in the presidential campaign, and the monthly surplus is a piece of good news for Obama. Read more about Election 2012.

For the first seven months of the fiscal year, the CBO estimates that the Treasury will notch a deficit of $721 billion. That’s $149 billion less than the red ink reported for the same period in fiscal 2011.

So I’ve been discussing on twitter just how “Inaccurate” these gay marriage polls have been lately. I think there is a “gay Bradley” effect going on with the polls because for all the increased acceptance, ALL BUT ONE was passed. Even over the phone, people don’t want to come off as homophobic.

Something is not right and the polls are giving people false satisfaction that just by twitting about it or posting on FB about a subject means that there is no need for “boots on the ground”. The lesson learned from CA Prop 8 was ignored again…GROUNDGAME IS KEY!!!

    • Miranda

You make WAY too much sense.

    • rikyrah

according to the ‘polls’, it was supposed to be only a couple of points on the losing side.

that mofo lost by damn near 20 points.

  • edp4bho

Per LOD and his mouthpieces, PBO has to lead on the issue, and he’s in a crisis about SSM. They say he’s resisting. Just gonna make him say it, aren’t they?

    • Bri

We have to get back to talking about the economy ASAP. The longer Democrat hosts go on about SSM, the longer Mitt can keep up with his lies. POTUS talked about student loans today, so Dem hosts need to be talking about it for the week. Democrats stay losing the agenda, which is getting POTUS re-elected. This election is about one thing, the ECONOMY, which is impacting EVERYONE.

      • Aquagranny911

I didn’t watch all of that segment, I’ll catch it on the rebound but did that broad throw shade at the president’s morals?

The way she phrased it made my face scrunch up.

      • edp4bho

Yes, that Anna Cox lady had a smirk of “disappointment” on her pretty little face. Damn her.

    • Lisa M

LOD saved it in the end of the segment by comparing Dems position on the death penalty. They don’t campaign on it, but they work to change it. He also said something along the lines of Chris Matthews who said that the gay mafia and their allies need to back off if the want to re-elect the President. Even the gay(?) guy on the panel ended the segment touting the unprecedented amount of pro-gay policies the President brought about. If Chris Matthews gets it, then there’s hope for other progs to get it. As an aside, I wish the President would stop talking about evolving and just emulate George Bush on his cocaine use: they said they weren’t going to talk about it and of course the media backed off.

POTUS and his crew needs to just tell the idiot media that questions about POTUS position on gay marriage has been asked and answered and just leave it at that.

      • Camille

The President is NOT talking about it. That was his answer to ONE question at a press conference.
Suddenly everyone is a strategist full of error proof ideas.

      • edp4bho

I had to re-visit this topic as I am so mad at what’s going on. This is the going topic this morning, and at this point, I figure, if gays can get PBO to tread into the fray on SSM, then all of us who support reparations need to have at it. I know I am running on emotion today, but when does one group take precedent over the history of suffering and demonizing of our forefathers and foremothers who were subjected to horrendous treatment and lost economic, educational, and cultural footing?

On July 1, more than 7.4 million students across the country will see their interest rates double unless Congress acts.
    THERE Is MORE.
