What 1982 single is Warren G sampling in his 1994 hit song, “Regulate” featuring Nate Dogg?

Can’t recall? Click the video below to see if it jogs your memory. The first person to correctly name the sample and artist wins a pass from the bad lounge (although who would want a pass from the bad lounge when it’s the hottest club in the bloggersphere).

Brown Justifies Denying 9/11 Rescue Workers Aid: ‘We Had To Take Care Of Our Own Priorities First’

As the Plum Line reported yesterday, State Sen. Scott Brown (R-MA), the Republican candidate for the U.S. Senate special election on Tuesday, voted on October 17, 2001 to deny financial aid to Red Cross rescue workers who had volunteered with 9/11 recovery efforts. As a state representative at the time, Brown was one out of only three legislators who had opposed the overwhelmingly bipartisan measure.

At a campaign rally today in Hyannis, ThinkProgress caught up with Brown for comment on why he voted against the measure:

TP: In 2001, you voted against 9/11 recovery workers, giving them aid, do you have any comment on this story?

BROWN: Yes, it was a time when our budget was down. We had a lot of cuts unfortunately, and we had to take care of our own priorities first.

  • GOVCHRIS1988

Usually, there are things white people do and black people do distinguishably. Black people put water in ketchup to stretch out its use. White people pay their bills AT the mailbox as soon as they get them. Black people damn near electrocute themselves running an extension cord from one house to another trying to get their lights cut back on. White people kiss their dog on the mouth. After this, I say these have got to be white people.

Just read and respond. This is just…..WOW!!!!!

    – — –Decision Upholding Pennsylvania Voter ID Law Relied On 1869 Case Warning Of ‘Rogues,’ ‘Strumpets,’ and ‘Wandering Arabs’– –

    – – –As the Pennsylvania Supreme Court prepares to review the constitutionality of the state’s photo ID law, a University of Pittsburgh law professor flagged the flimsy and offensive precedent upon which the lower court relied when it upheld the law. In rejecting the plaintiffs’ argument that the law violates the state Constitution’s guarantee of “free and equal elections,” the court cited the 1869 case of Patterson v. Barlow, which, Professor Jessie Allen points out, serves as a “blatant example of the anti-democratic voter suppression alleged by plaintiffs in the current voter ID case.”:

The law approved in Patterson enacted a complicated set of registration procedures for Philadelphia (with its large working-class and immigrant populations) and a simpler procedure for the rest of the state. . . . The opinion justifies a tougher process for Philadelphia voters because “rogues and strumpets do not nightly traverse the deserted highways of the farmer. Low inns, restaurants, sailors’ boarding-houses and houses of ill fame do not abound in rural precincts, ready to pour out on election day their pestilent hordes.”

    – – – -SNIP – – —

In her op-ed, Professor Allen points out that the Supreme Court could clearly distinguish the law at issue in the 1886 case from today’s photo ID law.

It’s wicked convoluted, GLH. The buzz phrase of the decade “empowerment” has, of course, brilliant ramifications. It also leads to parents threatening teachers if their kids get grades they are not content with. I’ve seen it too often. At dismissal time, entitled parents in my “high end” schools rushing the teachers, in their faces, “explain this ‘b” you gave my son!” I feel so much more at home at the schools in the “poorer sections” (our town has every demo imaginable. I used to work the higher end before i got a decent skill set). The struggling parents are dead on their feet, but in most cases, treat the staffs with respect.

It is just not lack and white. There are crap teachers who should not be collecting paychecks – I, as a freaking SUB – have more talent – but ar protected by the union. There are teachers who work their asses off, and if not for the union, would be unconscionably taken advantage of my administration.

The elderly in my town demand referendoms on every tax hike, because of the “wasted money” going to the schools. “When I was a kid, teachers had 40 student classes.” I have sympathy for them, living on SS checks. I also know that my peers are not slackers, and the next generation needs to be prepared.

I am so grateful I am “just a Sub.”

Not just more gratifying, I LIKE them and their parents better, LOL. Once I had a Mom of a very rich kid offer to give me her used clothes! The teachers who most infuriated me had a few years left to retirement, and were phoning it in. Ladies snd Gents, YOU may no longer care, but the students deserve your best until your very lasy day.
I posted before that after the violence against supposed Muslims, I felt horribly for the Arab American kids in my classes. I’ve also heard stories about fears of deportation. But it’s not all good. Some are tough, act the same in the class as they do in their neighborhoods – forever on the defensive. Some tell me they cannot play outside because of the shootings.

BUT I am in a mixed demo SUBURB. I don’t do Hartford. So I’m no saint 🙂 (although I have encountered kids who live there, and it was clear their parents punked the system) I never report them, which I CAN get in trouble for.

And finally, these schols might not HAVE subs. ome of the town subs prefer the nanny land schools.

Top Democrats Celebrate Weakened Tea Party

WASHINGTON, D.C. — Senior Democrats are dancing on what they see as the grave of the Tea Party movement, whose political brand they tried — and succeeded — to badly tarnish.

Not a single major speaker at the Republican National Convention in Tampa spoke the words “Tea Party,” and despite being the dominant movement of the 2010 midterms and having a deep effect on Republican Party politics, many of its leaders and members have faded into Republican ranks and off the national stage with the mass rallies of 2010 now just memories. Tea Party figures say they’ve refocused on local politics, but top Democrats say they’ve gone into hiding.

The Other Side Of Joe Biden
    David Kurtz-September 11, 2012, 1:09 PM

Rarely do I watch Joe Biden give a speech or an interview without looking for some evidence, in his eyes or the lines of his face, of the fact that he lost half of his young family when he was 30 years old. It is inconceivable to me, always has been, but especially in the years since I became a father. For all his goofballism, Biden has gone through a crucible that I cannot imagine. And he did so when he was 30, an adult, already deeply invested in the life he was building.

That’s not to diminish the tragedies that children endure. But at 30 years old to lose your wife and baby daughter, to almost lose your two toddler sons, and to somehow carry on? It truly baffles me. I know everyone says you do what you have to do. But that’s not really true. You don’t. You could curl up in the fetal position, if not literally then emotionally, and shrivel up. I’m more certain that that’s what I would do than I am confident I would find a way to persevere. But Biden has been through it. He’s seen hell and been back.

That he served his entire 36-year Senate career after that searing experience in December 1972, shortly after winning election, and then went on to become vice president, adds some drama to the story, I suppose. But for me the emotional highlight is just him getting out of bed the next day, and the day after that, and the one after that.

The pattern will likely spell doom for Romney unless it represents an entirely transient “bump” for President Obama — which it might.

Several polls released in recent days show Obama displaying new strength among male voters. Romney needs to win the male electorate by a wide margin to overcome the chronic disadvantage the GOP faces with respect to women.

A CNN poll released Monday showed Obama moving into a small lead among men, besting Romney 48 percent to 47. The finding was especially notable because CNN, in a poll conducted about a week prior, had shown Romney holding a 12-point lead among men (55 percent to 43).

    – – – —Are you one of hundreds of thousands of Pennsylvania voters who lack the type of photo identification required by the state’s voter ID law? If your son is a rich cable news personality with a big Twitter following, the state of Pennsylvania is on the case.

As TPM reported earlier, CNBC’s Jim Cramer tweeted on Tuesday morning that his father — a World War II veteran named Ken — would lose the ability to vote under the state voter ID law because he “does not drive, he is elderly, and can’t prove his citizenship.”

Less than seven hours later, the “Mad Money” host tweeted that authorities with Pennsylvania’s transportation office “came directly to the rescue” of his father.

So how did it happen so fast? Needless to say, the reach of the younger Cramer, who has more than a half million Twitter followers and a net worth reportedly in the tens of millions of dollars, had a lot to do with it.
