Boehner tells GOP he’s through with one-on-one Obama talks

Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio) is signaling that at least one thing will change about his leadership during the 113th Congress: He’s telling Republicans he is done with private, one-on-one negotiations with President Obama.

During both 2011 and 2012, the Speaker spent weeks shuttling between the Capitol and the White House for meetings with the president in the hopes of striking a grand bargain on the deficit.

Those efforts ended in failure, leaving Boehner feeling burned by Obama and, at times, isolated within his conference.

Wind Tax-Credit Extension Seen Driving Growth, Trade Group Says

The one-year extension of a U.S. tax credit for wind power will save as many as 37,000 jobs in an industry that’s expected to stall this year, the American Wind Energy Association said. The impact may not be fully felt until next year.

The production tax credit was due to expire at the end of 2012 and the extension was part of yesterday’s passage of the bill to avert the so-called fiscal cliff that would have imposed income tax increases for most U.S. workers. The bill will cover all wind projects that start construction in 2013.

The wind industry lobbied all through 2012 for an extension of the credit. With its fate uncertain, the U.S. installed an estimated 11,800 megawatts of turbines in 2012, falling to 4,800 megawatts this year, according to Bloomberg New Energy Finance. With the extension, development will probably pick up in the second half of the year and may not drive significant growth until next year.

“Though too late for this year, it will allow the U.S. market to see some recovery in 2014,” Justin Wu, Hong Kong- based head of wind analysis at New Energy Finance, said by e- mail.

This is utter BS. A lot of states (certainly mine, at least for the moment, until and unless the Republicans screw it up) have laws prohibiting ANYone other than a police officer, EVEN people w/ concealed-carry permits, from bringing ANY gun into a school. Especially a public school. The Buckeye Firearms Foundation has ABSOLUTELY NO SAY WHATSOEVER over gun policy IN ANY school. That is WAY above their pay grade. STATE LAWS AND LOCAL SCHOOL BOARDS determine those policies. – - – –TRUTH!

– —- -An Ohio gun owners’ group is launching an “Armed Teacher Training Program” to instruct teachers and school staff on how to shoot off firearms in the classroom.

Arming teachers is illogical. More guns in classrooms, inevitably, will lead to accidents and unintended harm. Shootouts between teachers and gunmen is unlikely to be a net positive for students. But moreover, doesn’t get to the heart of the issue. America’s gun violence epidemic is not limited to classrooms.
