Wednesday Afternoon Thread: Obama Derangement Syndrome overtakes Karl Rove

This. Was. Awesome.

After Fox News called the election in favor of President Barack Obama, Fox contributor Karl Rove challenged their decision to give Ohio to the president, causing chaos on-air as hosts Bret Baier and Megyn Kelly scrambled to refute Rove’s reluctance to believe the Fox News “decision desk’s” call in favor of Obama.

Then Megyn Kelly actually goes to the Decision Desk to confirm the numbers:

But still not done, Michael Barone, another useless rightwing “analyst” that predicted a Romney landslide, had to be bought out to calm Rove down and explain that it was OVER.

Awesome.

Hey, POU family! Just thought I would post this with all my GLEE about PBO’s very comfortable re-election. This is from last night after I got home:) CONGRATULATIONS AMERICA!! WE DID IT AGAIN!!! CONGRATS TO THE BUCKEYE STATE FOR ONCE AGAIN PUTTING PBO OVER THE TOP!!! It is 3:00am in the morning and just getting home from the State of Ohio Dem victory celebration in Downtown Columbus at the Hilton. Excellent gathering. I rushed over to the hotel after I got off work at 11:00pm and had the cautious butterflies in my stomach waiting for them to call the election for PBO. Great victory for America and great victory for the world. All our hard work paid off. FOWARD!! OBAMA/BIDEN 2012!!

    • Aquagranny911

Thanks for sharing, Keith & congrats to you and all the people in Ohio!

    @AP:
Exit polls show Obama carried Virginia by increasing support from black voters from 18 to 20 pct.: http://apne.ws/TKubJ7 #2012election -RAS

    • Miranda

Buh, buh, but we are not as enthused as we were in 2008.

I think what the dumb media and GOP fail to understand is that you can measure enthusiasm by many ways. Last time we were openly and overwhelmingly excited……this time we were mad as fuck…and they built that. There was a black guy, a pollster, on last night that had to explain to a panel that from his data, the reason for black turnout was basically “you disrespect Barack and Michelle, you disrespect me”…and he rattled of the litany of incidents that black people stored in our memory banks that we have not and will not ever forget. Just because we weren’t as giddy as 2008 does not mean we were not MORE motivated, because this time it was indeed personal. This President accomplished more in his first term that benefits us directly than he will ever be recognized for, but if he hadn’t done not one of those things, the turnout for blacks was sealed with “You Lie”.

      • GN

President Obama warned them about coming accountability in the presidential elections but a hard head makes a soft behind. As far as I’m concerned, the beltway media has zero to offer in terms of reporting news rather than bullshit. They tried to play black people and ended up *getting played.*

      • Aquagranny911

I just wanted to add that the issue of RESPECT was huge with a lot of Latinos, as well. So many times I heard how distressed & angry people were that El Presidente was being so disrespected. Maybe they didn’t take it as personally as AA folks but they saw & they did not like it.

        • conlakappa

Latinos, Asians, anyone not white knew that they were disrespecting all of us.

      • http://oldhollywood.net/ woody45

That still gets my blood boiling. Try it at the next SOTU and PBO will climb up there and hang foot in his teabagging behind.

      • annvic

Exactly. A simple truth of life is that sometimes spite can motivate you in ways that inspiration can’t. To be able to vote in a black man who was the best and brightest was enough to get us up to the polls at the crack of dawn in 2008. To able to grind our boot heel in the racist GOP’s face that disrespected our president and his family constantly in addition to stripping away as many as our right as they could……well……that’s something that will keep your ass in line for 5 hours with no bathroom break. There’s a reason the Miami-Dade folks stayed in line til 1:00 a.m.

          • http://oldhollywood.net/ woody45

Bingo! I don’t care if they were first or second tier. None of them was going to flip a state from blue to red. Don’t give me any of that Huntsman would have been formidable crap. 2% in a primary means he would got his butt whooped worst than the guy who lied about his first name.

Hey Obots! Did you all catch that bs that tweety was spewing last night bout Obama not thanking clinton in his speech?
I gotta admit I feel some kinda way bout my POTUS and was caught up in my feelings last night and went off on twitter bout ed and tweety threatening him on the DL lol.

    • MsKitty

Yeah, that really pissed me off. I can’t stand that man.

    • Aquagranny911

Tweety can BITE THE BIG CACTUS!!! I totally despise that pasty pasta whiner.

    • qosine

Why does tweety bring Bill Clinton into everything? Pres. Obama’s got it worked out with Pres. Clinton. Tweety’s overstepping.

      • nepat

Why does tweety bring Bill Clinton into everything?

Catholic guilt. Tweety’s rise to what now passes for fame (meager ratings on cable news) came during the Monica Lewinsky era, where he beat up on Clinton (and Hillary) night after night. He was relentless – and a total, unmitigated a**hat. Last night’s ill-timed and completely irritating hissy fit was just another part of his Clinton Redemption Tour. He wants to be on the right side of history and in the Clintons good graces.

What bugged me more about his comments last night was this persistent MSM idea that PBO must never be given full credit for anything. He defeated the Clinton machine in the primaries, won the presidency twice, has had a much more consequential first term than Clinton had two terms, and still he struggles to get any credit from the self-anointed conventional wisdom gatekeepers. The time has come to shut these loudmouths down.

        • Kadijo

:) all. And Clinton owes President Obama that respect. PBO is taking this party places, and his treatment of Hillary rehabitated her in our community.

          • http://pragmaticobotsunite.blogspot.com/ Sepia

As quiet as kept, Bill and Hill need PBO more than PBO needs them.

    • annvic

Chris has a pathological need to tether Obama to a white male democrat at all times in an attempt to ignore the reality that the white working class voted is no longer necessary to win.

    • Town

I didn’t see Ed throwing shade, I saw Ed standing down after Rev. Al and Rachel Maddow shut down Chris Matthews’ noise.

Chris Matthews is just mad that Barack Obama kept the keys to the White House WITHOUT Chris Matthews’ counsel and on the real, Chris Matthews and his ilk are PISSED that as of Nov. 7, 2012 Barack Obama does not need them or their assistance EVER AGAIN.

      • MsKitty

        THIS

If the Beltway crew (and the “liberal” blogs) felt slighted before, they ain’t seen nothing yet. PBO can have a presser just to say “kiss my half-Kenyan ass”, drop the mic and walk out, and there isn’t a damn thing they can do about it.

      • sagenotsweet

Don’t get me started about Ed, and so many other of our political “allies”, who just discovered their true political selves after they were thoroughly embarrassed by the failures of the Bush administration.

Those of us who have been following politics on the “internets” know who I am talking about.

As for Matthews, he is a true old school liberal who was against the Vietnam War and worked in the Peace Corps. He is in favor of equal rights for women, Latinos, gays, and Black people as long as they realize that they aren’t quite ready for leadership positions. People who look like him were born to lead… for the time being at least.

(I’ll be interested to see if he and Howard Fineman, once again, will be chasing after the opinions of the white working class guy in Pennsylvania, who President Obama couldn’t hope to connect with… supposedly)

    • http://pragmaticobotsunite.blogspot.com/ Sepia

I heard that bs. Rev Al had to set Tweety straight and remind him of the shenanigans BC pulled against PBO.

It was only in the last 2-3 months that BC and the Clintonistas fell in line, and that’s only because if HRC decides to run, they know they’ll need Obamacrats’ support. Prior to that, they took every opportunity to back stab PBO. Remember James Carville yelling, “Get some hep down heyeaaaaah!” after the BP oil spill? Or Dee Dee Myers accusing PBO of being sexist? And just a week or so ago, Paul Begala lied and said PBO’s camp left NC, even though they had been there since 2008.

Tweety also whined about PBO not thanking Dems and accused him of not being a team player. That REALLY pissed me off! For the past 3+ years, PBO had to fight both the Repubs AND the Dems. Did Tweety forget about the Dems running away from PBO in 2010 which resulted in the Repubs taking the House? When PBO wanted to vote on the Bush Tax Cuts before the 2010 elections, the Dems said, “No”. And let’s not forget about the Maxine Waters and the CBC backstabbing.

So, Imma need for Chris Matthews to have a whole stadium of seats.

      • conlakappa

He did, to which Tweety had an “oh, that.” look. Long memories.

      • angee

well Nina Turner tweeted without any provocation last night that she AGREES with chris’ comments. Needless to say she blocked me after our dialogue. I hope she doesn’t turn into that person cause she has so much promise. But you never go against people who vote for you and can vote for you to get on good side of a tv host.
I haven’t given up of Ms. Turner but I’m watching her. I’m watching her.

    • Daltex82

Lawrence and Rev. Al basically told him to have a seat with that, but he was not to be deterred. He has his moments of saneness, but for the most part he is a word slurring, spit spewing overly hyped up blowhard! I still think he’s pissed that President Obama would not do an interview with him, that or he wants to write a book about the President and can’t get access.

Reid: Dems are the party of diversity

Senate Republican leader Mitch McConnell said in a terse overnight statement that he’s willing to meet Obama and the Democrats at the political center on some issues. Reid said he wants to work with Republicans, but they “can’t push us around.”

And the pundits are so full of crap. Last night, it was “but it won’t be any different.” Bullshit. Obama spent four years changing the groundrules, he will now capitalize. When he came on stage last night, it wasn’t with the transcendent aura of 4 years ago. He looked serious and ready to get back to work. Last night was the first time I listened to pundits in ages. I had to, did not want to miss the Obama’s and Biden’s entrances. Finally I realized (duh) i could record a couple of hours worth and FF to their entrances. I am not euphoric today – it’s more a feeling of everything is as it ought to be. I am incredibly grateful to OFA and the O-Team and supporters. It is a whole new ballgame now. The oppo knows, as you guys always put it, Obama is not playing.

When Rove said he “didn’t want to intrude on the process” I choked. I didn’t see it as a meltdown though. Just Theater of the Absurd. Yo Karl, my family lives in a suburb, I have friends in suburbs. We voted for Obama. Look at the rally attendees. ALL the Caucs live in urban areas? Not likely. Our neighbors are AA. ALL AA’s live in the city? No. Stop reducing people to statistics. PS, good bye, you are a stain on America’s history. Go teach a Stats course, and stay out of my life.

And Mr Wallace and Ms Kelly. This was NOT a clusterfuck as you implied, because nobody gives a damn what Fox “calls.” If you were that influential, Romney would have not been buried.
I am incredibly tired of stupidity and immaturity and pettiness and ego.

There is never any of that on POU. I could not have gotten through this without you. Now my mind needs OMMMM..:)

had our first gala ever, and 200 people showed up.

I live in Tennessee, by the way, so Republicans rule – for now.
But I want to work to change that.

      • Aquagranny911

WHOA! I will stop whining about AZ. TN must be even harder. At least AZ has had Dem Senators & governors plus state legislatures in the past & we still have a few Dem Reps.

I’m glad you enjoyed your experience as a poll watcher. This was my first time too but I plan to do it again in 2014.

        • qosine

It’s pretty much conservative hell here. I will never forget their cruelty toward unemployed people during the recession. I really despise them.

One of my best friends (he’s like family) voted for McCain in 2008. When he would talk conservative, I got so mad I started looking up everything I could to refute his points. Every piece of legislation, every pundit talking point on Sundays, week after week. I had read in Audacity of Hope how Pres. Obama listened to other points of view, yet could persuade others to see some things from his point of view, so I guess you could say, I used The Obama Approach.

One day, my friend said I was getting really informed. He started rethinking some of what he heard, and two weeks ago, he happily voted for Pres. Obama and a straight Democratic ticket. Wow.

I called him to thank him for his vote, and he said, “You know, sometimes the good guys really win.”

          I’m really happy today.

          • Aquagranny911

What a great story! I love this so much because this is how I believe that we make change: one by one, people to people.

That’s why I have always enjoyed canvassing. You don’t reach as many as phone calls do but you can really get a grip on the needs of people & speak to that in personal ways.

Thank you for sharing this here.

      • Aquagranny911

BTW & OT: You have a beautiful state & some great food. When Hubby & I lived in Mississippi we took a vacation there once.

        • qosine

Oh, I agree. I grew up in Northern Virginia, so that’s my home/heart. But later I moved here when my dad retired – he was originally from TN. My mom and dad met at Columbia University in NYC (PBO’s alma mater!).

I love to paddle the whitewater down here – Hiwassee River, Ocoee River (to name 2). I have a canoe and a C-boat (kayak like) and love the outdoors. There are no red states or blue states on the mighty river! Just deer, tall evergreen trees, clean, powerful water, and some wonderful friends.

Plus my boyfriend (a very snarky Democrat) has lived in many places, so we’re happy Democrats taking on conservatives one at a time! FORWARD

I’m feeling good about the billionaire money failing at winning this election but stimulating a whole bunch of local economies through employment opportunities for florists, printers, caterers, security guards… throwing the money that they saved on their taxes around to people that aren’t even on their radar.

    • Miranda

They were absolutely incredible. They were in all the swing states and did a magnificent job. With not even 1/20th of the money of conservative SuperPacs, they had 10 times the influence on the election. When you look at the Florida county map, the panhandle area is completely red and then you get to Leon County and it was dark blue – that’s Tallahassee. 1911United had a big registration drive for the FAMU and FSU students and its my understanding they shattered records yesterday.

      • GN

Just unreal–they were in North Carolina, they were in Florida–I turn on my tv and see “brothers” hating yet beneath the radar, look at what 1911United did…Harriet would be proud. We are the hopes and the dreams of the slave h/t Maya, indeed.

        • sagenotsweet

People, mostly minority people, standing in line for hours to vote will be an iconic image of this election.

I have so much respect for them. I’m sure that they motivated others, even in “safe Blue states” to take care of business and vote.

          • MsKitty

I know they made me almost feel bad that I took the easy way out by voting by mail.

Michelle Obama turns spotlight on Michael Kors
    By Associated Press
    November 7, 2012 12:55 p.m.

(AP) — As Michelle Obama stepped on stage with her husband in Chicago early Wednesday morning, she accepted her role not only as first lady but fashion tastemaker for four more years—this time, wearing a Michael Kors magenta silk chine pin-tucked dress.

As Mrs. Obama joined President Barack Obama, she sported a dress pulled in at the waist, and she topped it with a black shrug that showed a peek of a vintage pink brooch from House of Lavande. She was surrounded by her trend-right daughters: Malia wore an electric-blue, A-line skirt with a pink studded belt that looks like the teen version of the first lady’s signature Azzedine Alaia belt, and Sasha had on an abstract-print green skirt, gray bow-front top and mimicked her mom’s shrunken cardigan look.

Report: Romney Camp Called Fox News To Complain About Network’s Ohio Projection
David Taintor – 1:19 PM EST, Wednesday November 7, 2012

After Fox News called Ohio for President Obama, the conservative news network’s phone and inboxes lit up with angry messages from the Romney campaign, complaining that the projection was premature, New York magazine’s Gabriel Sherman reports:

Instantly, Fox phones lit up with angry phone calls and e-mails from the Romney campaign, who believed that the call was premature, since tallies in several Republican-leaning Southern counties hadn’t been been fully tabulated. “The Romney people were totally screaming that we’re totally wrong,” one Fox source said. “To various people, they were saying, ‘your decision team is wrong.'” According to a Fox insider, Rove had been in contact with the Romney people all night. After the Ohio call, Rove — whose super-PAC had spent as much as $300 million on the election, to little avail — took their complaints public, conducting an on-air primer on Ohio’s electoral math in disputing the call.

Eighty-Eight Percent of Romney Voters Were White

The GOP candidate’s race-based, monochromatic campaign made him a loser.

In the end, the racial bubble of Mitt Romney’s campaign was a little too small. According to exit polls, he won 59 percent of the white vote, just short of his 60 percent target. But even a 60 percent showing with white voters wouldn’t have won him the popular vote.

That’s because the GOP bubble remained as tight as ever: Only white people voted for Mitt
    Romney.

he won 59 percent of the white vote, just short of his 60 percent target.
      ===
so he even lost the white vote he needed.

      • JojoRaze

It was the white women that did Mittens in that regard especially when it comes to abortion/Planned Parenthood/contraception and equal pay.

PBO made this group of women feel safe, that he understood them, so they could vote for him, even if they thought the economy was weak. The campaign was great because they never took their eyes off the prize wrt to emblematic questions: “Who cares about you and your interests?” “Whom do you trust?”

Mittens could never meet that threshold because he was so secretive with his taxes and dodgy on questions, that even if people acknowledged Mittens had business experience, it wasn’t experience that they felt would benefit them. It was ship jobs overseas business, not small town community/credit union business that helps people.

        • trose1

I thought Romney was pulling in the white women with his talk on the economy? You know the first debate?

More praises for Nate Silver and other Nerds!!– Sorry for long post…
    ________________________________________________________
Nate Silver-Led Statistics Men Crush Pundits in Election

Nate Silver was right. The Gallup Poll was wrong.

Silver, the computer expert who gave Obama a 90 percent chance of winning re-election, predicted on his blog, FiveThirtyEight (for the number of seats in the Electoral College), that the president would receive 51 percent of the popular vote as he called each of the 50 states, including all nine battlegrounds.

“Nate Silver, right,” said Bill Burton, who moved from the White House to the pro-Obama super-political action committee Priorities USA Action.

    -Snip-
Two university-based pollsters joined Silver in correctly predicting Obama’s win, and one of them will be dead-on about the electoral vote tally.

Drew Linzer, an assistant professor of political science at Emory University in Atlanta and a former pollster based in California, predicted yesterday morning on the website votamatic.org that Obama would end the race with 332 electoral votes and Romney 206.

Of Silver, Linzer wrote in that post, “his most likely outcome is still Obama 332, followed by 303 and 347, just like me.” Linzer also wrote that his model for votamatic.org had been predicting since June the Obama win with 332 electoral votes.

Sam Wang, a Princeton University professor of neuroscience, posted his final prediction — that Obama would likely receive 303 electoral votes to Romney’s 235 — on the school’s election blog at 2 p.m. yesterday. He reduced Obama’s total from 332 based on late polls yesterday.

  • lamh36

So I’ve never watched the daily MSNBC lineup but I did catch them today ’cause of the great news and can I say that Tam’Ron Hall is cute and all, but she’s horrible. She literally talks over everyone. Ever since she snatched that GOP dude’s wig off, she’s always trying to snatch wigs. I mean I like snatching GOP wigs off, but damn that all she got??? It was stupid.

  • Miranda

What is really amazing to me is that all this time, I thought the Fox News/right wing bubble was built to put the scared, delusional, afraid of change white demographic inside. I didn’t think the bubble was created from the inside out. The creators of the bubble are trapped inside of it too. That wasn’t acting last night, Snarl Rove and Bill O’Lielly and Prick Morris were genuinely shocked. They had really dismissed the math and failed to realize that Plan B (just steal it) cannot work with the technology and speed of information that every person with a mobile phone has access too.

I was stunned watching Rove last night because I just assumed he would actually KNOW the truth. I was totally mesmerized watching him because it hit me that he was inside the bubble looking out. I know the fools on Fox & Friends are dense, but a part of me thought it was acting..but they really believe what they say – they’re inside that bubble. Rupert Murdoch built a big ole media bubble of delusion and last night was like watching The Truman Show. Rove, who was supposed to be this evil genuis mastermind, was shown for what he is, a rambling ranting fictional character. He was never real. I cannot believe how the rest of us got duped into playing the townspeople in this bizarre script for that long.

I know PBO said that “we are the ones we’ve been waiting for”..but nope, HE was the one we needed because I sincerely do not believe anyone else would have ever come along at just this right time to pop this bubble.

    • Alma98

Yes! Spot on Miranda spot on.

    • qosine

I know Pres. Obama really opened my eyes. Maybe, too, he came to realize what he’s passing on to us? He said somewhere, that he spent the first 44 years figuring out what he believed, and he was ready to apply it.

I read something about Roger Ailes awhile back. He’s really a paranoid guy – black helicopter type. He really is afraid of the masses taking over. It’s so strange. Here’s this guy who built this multi-million/billion dollar franchise, and he sounds like a character out of a pulp sci fi novel/TV show.

    • Aquagranny911

I don’t even have the words to praise this comment enough…

    • rikyrah

      Miranda,

I believe Rove knows the math.

What you saw last night was a grifter who realized that he’s gonna have to be fucking Houdini to get folks to part with their money next election cycle.

      • Miranda

So he was waiting on that call from Husted and it never came because they couldn’t risk changing some votes after going to court over the machines?

        • trose1

The DOJ was in Ohio. Husted couldn’t do his thing because DOJ informed him days before election they were coming to observe. I am sure the shennanigans planned were put on hold.

        • rikyrah

I read a breakdown from the judge that Husted defied a second time with that bullshyt about provisionals, and reading that, Husted knew that all eyes were on them.

I love that the folks weren’t playing with him – the reporting of the early vote, the percentages for the President, getting a judge on your ass that was looking at everything you did.

I was watching one of the segments with Nina Turner and she revealed something I didn’t know – during early voting Cayuhoga County (Cleveland) – does not use touch screens — they only use paper ballots…..that’s part of the reasons their lines were so long.

Husted wasn’t about to go to jail for Rove or any of the rest of them mofos.

Oh, I just love that this First Family is from Chicago, a classic American city. He is the first urban president in a really really long time. They make me so darn happy and proud.

    This video is hilarious.

    Here’s the thing…

    When one is a grifter..

and one has suckered rich folks out of over 300 million dollars and you don’t have shyt to show for it….

    you’d have a mini-meltdown too.

remember, the grift can only continue if the marks believe they got something the first time.
