Wednesday Evening Thread: FLOTUS! FLOTUS! FLOTUS!

She kilt it……………slayed it…….done……over……sorry Miss Ann…SHE WON

Then she knocked the speech out the park!

  • Miranda

    Oh…who she tawkin too??

Ann Romney challenges women to ‘wake up’

“Women, you need to wake up,” she told the largely female audience at a “Women For Mitt” rally in Findlay, Ohio. “Women have to ask themselves who is going to… be there for you. I can promise you, I know that Mitt will be there for you, he will stand up for you, he will hear your voices, he knows how to fix an economy, he’s a can do kind of guy, he’s a turnaround guy.”

    • MsKitty

I hope Team Romney continues to put her front and center, after all she is their secret weapon.

      *wink, wink*

      • Aquagranny911

        She’s a “secret weapon” alright…..one that backfires!

        • The Romneys in a nutshell. They’re not asking for your vote they’re demanding it.

I really am going to enjoy her public meltdown starting election night and continuing until she goes back to whichever house she lives in.

      • Admiral_Komack

        Also, too.

    • Admiral_Komack

Willard will be there for Miss Ann.

    • She’s practically begging. I guess she saw Michelle’s speech last night.

    • gc

And you know women need a big, strong man to take care of you!

    • creolechild

Heffa, you need to cease and desist. You’re only making a fool of yourself! No one’s buying what you’re selling. And, tell your husband to release his tax returns….how ’bout that?

From the article that Miranda posted:

The latest CNN/ORC International Poll, released Tuesday, showed a “gender gap” between the two candidates: 54% of women surveyed said they were leaning towards or supporting Obama, while only 42% said the same of Romney. Asked who is more in touch with the issues facing women, 56% of all voters surveyed named Obama and 36% named Romney.

      • aleth

        42percent are idiots

    • GN

We may be a little ahead of the rest of the country, but I say this person is very unlikeable. Always talking down to somebody, then playing the sympathy card when people turn away from the stankness. I really don’t like that.

    • rikyrah

      wake up?

      bitch, please.

      • Admiral_Komack

Maybe she needs to tell Willard that…when they are in bed.

    • cosine

Said the same to the Latino/Hispanic group in Florida. “You better do what I say you people, or they’ll be hell to pay.” Wow – such a charismatic person – NOT! I hate her more than Palin.

    • Camille

She also pushed that false assertion of the Obama’s bashing “success and wealth” and “America”, because clearly Anne was not listening to the stunning, loving, empathetic, brilliant powerhouse that is Michelle Obama speaking last night.

Or she did listen as I suspect, but chose to lie anyway.

  • lamh35

Don’t hate me, but I really don’t plan to watch much of the Convention tonight. I’ll be live chatting and commenting, but I hate to say it, but I’m not really much interested in what Bill Clinton has to say. I just hope he brings a good one. Clinton can give good speech (or so I’ve heard, I’ve never been impressed, but I was way young when Clinton was President…so)
Also, I haven’t really paid attention to Elizabeth Warren’s oratory. Is she good?
Anyway, we still haven’t heard from Colin Powell. Has he endorsed yet?

So here is my prediction. Last night was so fantastic and so fabulous, but I don’t expect tonight to reach the same heights, but I do expect tonight to be steady and strong leading into tomorrows night with VPOTUS and POTUS!.

So what’s ya’ll predictions for tonight?

    • Daltex82

I’ll be trying to juggle the Cowboys-Giants, The Rangers-Royals and the Convention. I think Bill (although I’m not sure I trust him) will be okay. I just hope he remembers that this is not about him. He should just go out there give a good speech and in the words of Rupaul “Don’t Fyck it Up!

      • I said this on the other thread, he wants this moment too badly to screw it up. He’s there because PBO put him there.

        • Admiral_Komack

          Bill Clinton better come correct.
If he doesn’t, his honorary BLACK card will not only be taken, it WILL be thrust up his ass.

          • You got that right!!

          • Kennymack1971

And that’s why Bill Clinton is going to give a full throated endorsement of the President tonight. Anything else and the Clintons are finished in the Black community. And there’s no path to the Dem nomination in 2016 or any other year without us.

          • JojoRaze

I hope so. The first words out my mouth this morning as I said my prayers were “Please Lord Jesus, do not let Bill Clinton act a fool tonight.” And repeated it two more times, too.

I don’t trust that man at all which is why I’m glad we’ll at least have the cover of the Giants-Cowboys game if he acts a fool. By the way, I pick the Giants.

          • Kennymack1971

I don’t trust him either but he’s smart enough to know what’s up. Oh and I’m rolling with my Cowboys

          • Dis right here. Add to that the rest of the PBO coalition. He screws up tonight and the people in that hall run him out on a rail.

          • AxelFoley

    • Camille

      Won’t be watching either.

Hell…do we even know if his real name is PAUL RYAN???

    Paul Ryan, Mountaineer

Here’s the first exception. Ryan has told his hometown paper that he has climbed “close to 40” of the famous “Fourteeners” in Colorado — the 54 peaks more than 14,000 feet high. In fairness, he made this claim a few years ago, before he knew he would be under the scrutiny he is now.

Still: this claim makes me even more suspicious than his marathon answer did. I know nothing about mountain climbing, so give my views appropriate weight. But to see what people who do have experience think, you might check out the current comments at the climbers’ site SuperTopo. One explains the reason for his skepticism:

LOL, thank God for the lady from Florida who told Chris Matthews with a straight face “I am here to ensure that President Obama is re-elected and that is what I want to focus on”!

And not you and Gavin Newsom’s fantasies about a fictional Clinton presidency, or Hillary’s 2016 ambition.

    Thank you ma’am!

    • I don’t see Hillary running in 2016. Of course you never know but 2016 is going to be wide open.

  • itgurl_29

These Kennedys are some good ass surrogates! They always bring it right back to the President. Democrats need to go to the Kennedy School of Political Surrogacy.

    • TresL

I noticed that and I loved it!

    • Camille

They absolutely are. It is always bigger than them – the issues, where they could easily just self- absorb and self- promote.

As for Darrell Hammond, “selfless” is not a word I would use to describe Bill Clinton. Opportunistic, self-serving, self-aggrandizing, vindictive all come to mind as more fitting.

And look at Eugene Robinson all cowardly and shit being forced to say all nice things about Clinton when he isn’t even allowed to have an honest moment (without inserting crappy disclaimers) about the pride he honestly feels watching President Obama preside over the U.S presidency with dignity, discipline, integrity, brilliance, focus and accomplishing what even Bill Clinton failed to pull off and under the worst racism and obstruction from even Clinton and his cronies.

Like Mrs Obama said, the Presidency doesn’t change who you are, it reveals it. And that is all we need to know when these idiots try to diminish President Obama to elevate Bill Clinton.

I’m furious, can you all tell?

The recent NY mag article and Clinton’s current chief of staff Douglas Band’s disrespect of President Obama and public declaration that he will be voting for Romney to help position Hillary for 2016 does not help my already great disdain for and suspicions of the Clintons.

      When President Obama wins re-election in November, it won’t be because Bill Clinton gave a self-aggrandizing speech at the convention after stepping all over President Obama’s messaging (or failing to call of his attack dogs Rendell, Carville etc. who have actively carried out a choreographed and Clinton-sanctioned sabotage and undermining of President Obama);

It will be by God’s grace and President and Mrs Obama’s unyielding efforts and accomplishments on behalf of the American people – and of course the sterling character of this extraordinary couple.

      • TresL

This aide is selfish and obviously financially secure because to do some shit like that and advertise it means he is not worried about and has no regard for how Williard’s policies would devastate the lives of people in this country.

And who says Hillary would even win the Dem nomination? I know I wouldn’t vote for her, mostly because of that bastard she’s married to.

        • I agree about winning the nomination. There’s going to be a lot of new blood in 2016.

      • No speech in that hall is going to get PBO reelected except the one he gives. But PBO picked Bill Clinton to be on that stage tonight and what he expects is for him to give a good speech like all those people that came before him. Anything less is not acceptable.

      • AxelFoley

Clinton’s chief of staff said that shit?

Aw, HELL NAW, SON! That muthafucka is on my permanent shit list.

        • Camille

The whole thing is so asinine only made worse by how blatant the Clinton folks are about it.

Some of them even went on record with asshole Ryan Lizza detailing how they’ve played hardball with the Obama admin and their plan to make Hillary head of the Democratic party and usher her into the presidency, by their calculation, if Romney wins.

Michelle Obama’s very authentic and fierce speech last night and the reception to it totally freaked out the Clintons and their apostles who are waiting to once again take over the party.

They immediately went into p.r overdrive pushing Bill Clinton and his trumped up prowess. Hillary 2016 etc.

It was obvious the memo had gone out. Interview with an overly reverent Brian Williams, asshole opportunist Gavin Newsom prancing about an overly excited Chris Matthews who has obviously been promised something with Bill Clinton a drink, a phone call something inconsequential – that’s all it takes with Chris really.

And suddenly, it’s no longer about the massive yet to be fully tapped power of Michelle Obama, it becomes all about the Clintons and how much President Obama “needs” them.

        • Camille

But the Clinton folks did go on record. And when reached for comment about the article, “declined” to comment.

If it was inaccurate or false, the Clinton folks would have pushed back. Crickets.

Pentagon: SEAL’s Bin Laden Book Reveals Classified Intel

Top Pentagon officials said today that a controversial firsthand account of the nighttime raid that killed Osama bin Laden written by a former U.S. Navy SEAL reveals classified information and could endanger other special operations servicemen.

Little declined to provide specifics about what classified information is revealed, but said the book raised “serious concerns” and represented a “material breach of nondisclosure agreements that were signed by the author of this book.”
“This is a solemn obligation,” said Little. “And the author in this case elected not to abide by his legal obligations. And that’s disheartening and, frankly, is something that we’re taking a very close look at.”

The Pentagon sent Owen a letter Thursday saying the government was considering legal action against him, and Little said today those options are still being reviewed.

Meanwhile, in an internal message to his command entitled “The Cost of Disclosure,” Rear Admiral Sean Pybus, who heads Naval Special Warfare Command (NSW), criticized SEALs whom he said had violated the command’s ethos.

“We do NOT advertise the nature of our work, NOR do we seek recognition for our actions,” Pybus wrote to his command in the letter, a copy of which was obtained by ABC News.

“I am disappointed, embarrassed and concerned”, writes Prybus. “Today, we find former SEALs headlining positions in a Presidential campaign; hawking details about a mission against Enemy Number 1; and generally selling other aspects of NSW training and operations.”

Aside from hurting NSW’s reputation and security, Pybus said “the security of our Force and Families is also put at risk by the release of sensitive information” and said enemies can gather information and NSW details that “expose us to unnecessary danger.”

Obama’s Pre-Convention Favorability Sinks into the Negative

[….] Blah, blah, blah, blah Romney polls blah, blah blah. Obama is doomed.

“The poll points to Obama’s “trouble” with registered women.”

So what exactly is “trouble?” Is it the same as good old regular trouble, or is it some kind of special trouble? Is it real trouble, or make believe trouble. Trouble we should worry about or trouble that’s not really trouble, so don’t worry about it. And what’s the trouble with simply calling it trouble? Do you have trouble doing that? Because if you can’t simply say he has trouble with registered women, then he may well be in real trouble.

    • LOL!! Beautiful.

I call bull lol. No way in hell PBO’s favorability slipped with women. Please.

  • Obama Campaign Challenging Jon Husted’s Hubris
Posted on 09/05/2012 at 4:00 pm by JM Ashby

According to the Obama campaign, Ohio Secretary of State Jon Husted doesn’t actually have the authority to arbitrarily override the lower court’s ruling on early-voting rights, and they have filed a motion asking a federal court to enforce the lower court’s ruling

In its filing Wednesday, the Obama campaign pointed out that Ohio had not sought an actual stay of Economus’ decision, and instead “appears to believe it can issue [a stay] on its own authority.” The Obama campaign said Husted’s memo does not “identify the legal basis for this extraordinary action,” and argued that the memo conflicts with a well-established principle that orders based on a court decision are to be respected until an appeals court rules on the matter.

“Plaintiffs respectfully request that the Court act as appropriate and necessary to enforce its Order issued August 31, 2012,” lawyer Donald J. McTigue writes in the motion.

  • Judge Orders Jon Husted To Attend Ohio Early Voting Hearing
Ryan J. Reilly 5:52 PM EDT, Wednesday September 5, 2012

It isn’t just the Obama campaign that is upset over Ohio’s decision to ignore a federal court order instructing them to reinstate early voting during the three day period before the November election. The federal judge who issued the decision seems pretty perturbed too, ordering Ohio Secretary of State Jon Husted to show up to a Sept. 13 hearing in-person.

“This Court hereby ORDERS that Defendant Secretary of State Jon Husted personally attend the hearing,” U.S. District Judge Peter Economus wrote in an order Wednesday afternoon.

Haley a Nazi? Democrat not backing down from analogy
    Posted by
    CNN Political Reporter Peter Hamby

The Chairman of the South Carolina Democratic Party is refusing to apologize after he compared his state’s Republican Gov. Nikki Haley to Adolf Hitler’s mistress Eva Braun.

Dick Harpootlian, a tart-tongued Columbia attorney known for his off-color and sometimes inflammatory rhetoric, made the analogy after Haley showed up at the Democratic National Convention earlier this week to offer a GOP response to the proceedings in Charlotte.

Haley had appeared at a Republican press conference which was held in the basement of a Charlotte office building. On Wednesday morning, Harpootlian told South Carolina Democrats that Haley “was down in the bunker a la Eva Braun.”

“Hell no. What am I apologizing for?,” he said when asked if he would apologize. “This is fake. Nikki Haley is feigning this. There is not a sincere bone in her body.”

This article’s title is kinda misleading, because after the author concedes a correction from the comments section, what has happened is that DNC2012 has remained on par with 2008 for night one ratings. RNC2012 remained on par with 2008 for night one, then dropped off for nights two and three. I see little chance of that happening to us with the Big Dog and Ride or Die Joe/JoeChainz on tonight, and of course, MR. PRESIDENT on Thursday (all hail the chief, for real).

But anyone looking for a solid ratings analysis, this is a good start (ignore the title, again, it was debunked): http://entertainment.time.com/2012/09/05/what-were-learning-from-the-convention-ratings-or-lack-thereof/?iid=ent-article-latest

    • Miranda

There will probably be a drop off tonight simply because there is a big NFL game to kick off its season tonight. But I expect to see a bump in ratings from the 9pm hour to the 10pm hour when Clinton speaks.

      • GN

Gawker’s disputing these figures and is saying that the DNC is absolutely SLAYING the RNC…stay tuned.

      • GN

The article was updated to confirm Gawker’s analysis: the DNC has slayed the RNC on night one:

*Update: The above figures are for the three broadcast and three cable networks (ABC, CBS, CNN, FNC, MSNBC and NBC). Nielsen has also posted full viewing figures including smaller networks and PBS, totaling 22.3 million for the RNC and 26.2 million for the DNC.

    1. Your husband won’t stand up for the Lily Ledbetter Act, which just means that I, as a woman, if I find out that I’ve been discriminated against on the job – I can have a day in court.
    2. Your husband supports a Personhood Amendment, which means no abortions, and the outlawing of most birth control.
    3. Your husband says he will defund Planned Parenthood, which means that millions of my fellow American women, will be without access to quality, safe female-centered healthcare.
    4. Your husband’s running mate is a General in the GOP WAR ON WOMEN.
    5. Your husband supports a Budget plan that would throw millions off of Medicaid, meaning that MILLIONS of:
    a) poor children
    b) elderly in nursing homes
    c) disabled adults

Will be thrown into the street without access to the healthcare and services that Medicaid provides. I know you don’t live in the real world, but I’m thinking of the millions of MOTHERS to those children without healthcare. I’m thinking of the millions of WOMEN upon whom the responsibility will be forced onto them, after Grandma and Grandpa are throwns out into the street from the nursing home. I think about the millions of female care givers of disabled adults- their family. Yes, I’m being stereotypical, but the truth is the truth – WOMEN are the caregivers in this country.
    6. Your husband supports a budget that will turn Medicare into a voucher program, and there are millions of women who will now have to help their elderly parents navigate the world of private insurance, as well as helping them to pay for their medication.
    7. Your husband wants to repeal Obamacare – ask that MOTHER – Stacy Lihn- who spoke the first night, whether that repeal will let her sleep well at night – if at all.
    8. How about the millions of mothers who now don’t have to worry about their adult children and healthcare – what about that if Obamacare is repealed.
    9. How about the millions of women with pre-existing conditions who will now not be discriminated against because of Obamacare.
    10. How about the millions of women who will no longer PAY MORE for a health insurance policy- just because they are women – because Obamacare tells the insurance companies they can’t.
    11. How about the women who held their hands of their husbands, as your husband, and his vulture capitalism, ushered in business practices that destroyed middle-class jobs, let alone the women workers themselves who got thrown into the dustbin while your husband vultured himself a fortune.

And you think you can tell women to WAKE UP?

Women have YOU and your husband’s number.

And that’s why they support President Obama by double digits.

Celebs flock to Charlotte to support Obama at DNC
    – —

    – – — –Celebrities are flocking to Charlotte for the Democratic convention, albeit without the prop furniture that made Clint Eastwood’s appearance at last week’s Republican convention so talked about.

Thus far, the DNC has seen a large number of celebrity attendees, but not quite the outpouring of high-wattage support President Barack Obama engendered in 2008. Surprise guests could still arrive, like Eastwood did for his unexpected speech bestride an empty seat at the RNC. — [IGNORE the NEGATIVE!!]

But without Obama’s most famous supporters — Oprah Winfrey, George Clooney, Brad Pitt, Ben Affleck, Anne Hathaway — the likelihood of any celebrity causing the stir Eastwood did seems slim.

Eva Longoria, a co-chair of Obama’s reelection campaign, was due to address delegates Wednesday. Ashley Judd is attending as a Tennessee delegate. Will.i.am, who wrote the song “Yes We Can” for Obama’s 2008 run, attended former President Bill Clinton’s fundraiser Tuesday, and was to join a panel about innovative solutions to unemployment on Wednesday.

    – — -SNIP – – –

The biggest celebrity infusion will likely come Thursday ahead of Obama’s speech and acceptance of the party’s nomination. Among those scheduled to perform Thursday are the Foo Fighters, James Taylor, Mary J. Blige, Earth Wind and Fire, and Marc Anthony, who is to sing the national anthem. Amber Riley of “Glee” sang on Tuesday.

LOL….they’re fickle negroes. See? Speaking of negroes, in this case, I do hope OFA will begin to include more AAs in these story telling videos. Watching on Cspan, the health care video- good messaging, but we suffer a whole lot more female health issues, says the stats. We need our voices heard.

    – – –Boston mayor: Romney was not ‘all that good’ at being governor – – –

    – — –Boston Mayor Thomas Menino said Wednesday that Mitt Romney would not be a good president because he wasn’t very good at being Massachusetts governor.

“Think of me as a reference check,” he said. “In Massachusetts, Mitt Romney had the one job in his life that’s closest to being president, and he wasn’t all that good at it.”

Menino said that when Romney was governor, Massachusetts was nearly last in job creation, and added that Romney raised taxes that were disguised as fees, and increased the state debt.

“Mitt Romney is a decent guy,” he said. “As the mayor of Boston, I worked with him when he was governor. Much of the time, we worked together pretty well. But he made a lot of decisions that were bad for our state — and now he wants to carry those wrong-headed policies to the rest of our country?”

“Mitt Romney may come from Boston, but his campaign’s values aren’t Boston values,” he added. “Because in Boston, we know this country didn’t become great by excluding folks and leaving each other on their own.

    how’s this for a quote:

“I will not stand behind President Obama….. No, I will stand in front of him, taking on those who wish to see him fail. I will stand tall and be proud of my President, and what he has accomplished in such a short time. Brave men do not stand behind what they believe in, they stand in front of it, and defend it with everything they’ve got. NO! I will not stand behind my President. I will stand in front of him!”

    – —After Two Court Orders, Louisiana May Finally Get Its First Black Chief Justice

    – – – –A federal district judge rejected this weekend a racially charged challenge to a Louisiana Supreme Court justice’s seniority that has threatened Justice Bernette Johnson’s path to becoming the court’s first black chief justice.

Johnson, who was appointed to the court as part of a settlement over civil rights violations under the Voting Rights Act, has been serving on the court longer than any other judge, and was prepared under the state’s seniority system to take on the court’s top spot when Chief Justice Catherine Kimball retires. An eighth seat was initially added to the court to address racial disparities. Even today, Johnson is the only black Supreme Court justice in a state in which nearly one third of residents are black. But because the state Constitution capped the number of justices at seven, Johnson was appointed to the appellate court, though she served as a member of the high court for her entire tenure.

    — – – —As Republican governors across the country refuse to expand Medicaid under an Obamacare provision that would extend the program to cover an additional 9.2 million low-income Americans, Gov. Paul LePage (R-ME) is going a step further. Although the Obama administration maintains the Supreme Court ruling on the health care law — which requires states to maintain the same Medicaid eligibility levels as they had in 2010 — does not mean states can tighten their eligibility requirements, Maine filed a lawsuit yesterday seeking to drop coverage for about 26,000 people who are currently eligible for the program. Mayors across Maine are protesting LePage’s proposed Medicaid cuts, which will go into effect on October 1 if the court is on his side. — –

    – —Bill Clinton Takes On Paul Ryan’s Medicare Lies: ‘It Takes Some Brass’ – – –

    – – – – —Bill Clinton singlehandedly dismantled the Romney-Ryan campaign narrative that President Obama is trying to put an end to Medicare at the Democratic Convention Wednesday night, pointing out that it is in fact the Romney-Ryan proposal for Medicare that would permanently change the program to a depreciating voucher system. “It takes some brass,” Clinton said, “to attack a guy for doing what you did”:

First, Both Governor Romney and Congressman Ryan attacked the President for allegedly robbing medicare of $716 billion. But it is not true.[…]

So, President Obama and the Democrats did not weaken Medicare. They strengthened Medicare. When Congressman Ryan looked into that TV camera and attacked President Obama’s Medicare savings as “the biggest, coldest power play,” I did not know whether to laugh or cry. Key cuts that $716 billion is exactly to the dollar the same amount of medicare savings that he had in his own budget. It takes some brass to attack a guy for doing what you did.

    • Systematically and relentlessly he took Republicans apart. I expected him to give a strong endorsement and knock it out of the park but that stunned me.

    — — – –Who triggered some of the biggest boos at the Democratic National Convention tonight? Three workers who lost their jobs after their companies were taken over by Mitt Romney’s Bain Capital. “Mitt Romney said, ‘I like to fire people,’” said Randy Johnson, whose work at an office supply manufacturer ended when Bain shut it down in the face of a strike threat. “And I can tell you from personal experience, he does.” Johnson said he doesn’t blame Romney for the economy, but does blame him for “making money without a moral compass.” What does “Romney Economics” look like? “Mitt Romney sticking it to working people,” he added.

While Cindy Hewitt and 850 other workers at Dade Behring in Florida lost their jobs after Bain took over, Romney and his partners “walked away with $240 million,” she said.

    – – –Woman Scorned Sandra Fluke Gets Sweet Revenge – —

    – – —Sandra Fluke tonight no doubt made Rush Limbaugh and the GOP rue the day the commentator called her a “slut” for demanding women’s access to birth control. She painted a foreboding, almost apocalyptic vision of life for American women under a Republic president, and had women in the audience cheering and tearful. “We’ve heard about the two profoundly different futures that could await women—and how one of those futures looks like an offensive, obsolete relic of our past. That future could be real,” she warned. “Your new president could be a man who stands by when a public figure tries to silence a private citizen with hateful slurs. Who won’t stand up to the slurs, or to any of the extreme, bigoted voices in his own party.”

It may be an America, she warns, where states “humiliate women by forcing us to endure invasive ultrasounds we don’t want and our doctors say we don’t need.” Or, Fluke added, voters can choose “an America in which our president, when he hears a young woman has been verbally attacked, thinks of his daughters—not his delegates or donors.”
