Morning POU. That specimen on the left. Hmm!

Hey Tyren, I’m wishing you and your daughter and wonderful Thanksgiving!

These democrats ain’t shit and stand for nothing. Obama era has been revealing. It’s all about maintaining power but not doing anything…same with GOP.

Oh my the brown case occupying the news is now being used to pass a horrible bill making corporate tax cuts permanent. This is fucking deal Harry Reid reached? President says he will veto….where is WArren or theses emo champions raging against thi s new assault on middle class.

Fuk schumer, Reid and this old Dino’s ala gov Nixon crew. Few mean what they campaign about, it’s all pretense. They thought obama would just pretend instead of govern.

Hillary you might as well pick gov Nixon if you want white voters because no black person is voting for your ass sending attack dog schumer.

    I hate this party.

    • edp4bho

I just read about this supposed bill that would add $450 billion to the deficit that PBO managed to decrease to acceptable levels. No dem here, wouldn’t be caught dead with that label !

      • jziglar

There are good democrats and then you have bad ones. According to the news Harry Reid basically caved during negotiations and he obviously didn’t include the WH and other senate democrats in the negotiations. That’s why the media is reporting that the deal collapsed due to the president’s veto threat.

        • edp4bho

There actually are good in both parties, much harder to find in the rethugs- moreso local, but the identifying is not my thing. I remain non-affiliated, henceforth I can assign myself the noble label of Obot !!

Repubs and Dems, two wings of the same damn bird.

    • jziglar

Harry Reid negotiated a bad deal but I doubt he even has enough votes from Democratic senators to get it passed. I could see a few conservative democrats going along but the majority of the caucus I doubt it. Also President Obama will most likely veto it.

    • AxelFoley

      Say it, say it, say!

Dems ain’t shit but hoes and tricks.

      • BoomerGal

        Pretty much.

    • MonieTalks

Schumer has ALWAYS been a snake.

And every single emo who screamed about PBO not keeping his promise about not repealing the Bush tax cuts made me want to slap them specifically because of his smarmy ass. There is no bigger Wall Street slut than him. I remember numerous articles detailing how he was one of the main ones…along with Harry Reid being shady..who had so much to do with feet dragging pre-2010 election regarding the tax cuts etc.

Oh lord, you ladies lusting over some dudes. SMH

      • Joy

I can set my watch by you…LOL.

  • Tafr

Morning POU. I am really tired of hearing people talk about training police offices to police black and brown neighborhoods. I see quite a few white people saying this. I’m sorry you do not train away hate. Black communities do not have time to train these people not to hate us, that is not our duty. These cops need to get the hell out of our neighborhoods The killer Wilson said point blank he did not like that Ferguson neighborhood. Why the hell was he there then??? We know why. This killer said he has no problem killing Mike and he would do it again. Really folks think we can “train” away that mental illness. Naw these people are sick, let them take that illness to their own neighborhoods, talking about training.

    • Town

Same goes for teachers. If you don’t like the children you are teaching you need to go to another school or get out of teaching.

      • BoomerGal

They won’t do that b/c if they go to a white district, they’ll actually have to work. As long they’re “teaching” little black children they can just collect a check.

        • Town

If the parents band together, they can run them out of the school because when I was in 12th grade, there was our 12th grade racist guidance counselor who was telling even black kids who were in the HONOR SOCIETY they shouldn’t bother to apply to college, just apply to community college or perhaps just get a job, and we told our parents and they banded together and ran her out of that school.

It was too late for our class, and most of us just went to the 11th grade guidance counselor for help with filling out college apps. But at least no one else in our school had to suffer.

If people band together we can get things done.

          • BoomerGal

That’s for sure! We just have to take the time to get everybody on the same page.

          • Town

And for sure, if a white guidance counselor was at a white school and told white children not to bother to apply to college, white parents would band together and run that person out of the school…as they SHOULD.

That actually also happened with our guidance counselor…she told the poorer white students not to bother about applying to college either.

Years later, I spoke with one of the white students and she told me what happened. She was so hurt and angry that she wanted to track that guidance counselor down and wave her MASTERS DEGREE in her face.

            Lazy/racist teachers and cops…gotta go!

          • BoomerGal

            Yep!

    • qosine

Throw out public service workers who hate the public!

Ferguson protesters in Dallas shut down I-35E for almost 2 hours

A night of peaceful protests in Dallas turned dangerous Tuesday when marchers outraged over the decision not to charge the officer who killed Michael Brown in Ferguson, Mo., made their way onto Interstate 35E near downtown, bringing traffic to a stop in both directions for miles.

Several people were detained, but no injuries or crashes were reported in the incident, which came at the end of an otherwise peaceful night of rallies by activists decrying what they called a pattern of police brutality against young black men here and across America.

Meanwhile, Dallas law enforcement officials tried to stay proactive. The district attorney-elect announced plans to pay for uniform-worn cameras for officers next year. Police launched a website Tuesday detailing shootings by police over the last 12 years. And police officials reminded the public about the numerous steps they’ve taken in recent years to release more information about shootings and reduce the use of deadly force.

The group made its way to the freeway about 9:15 p.m. After a short while, some protesters began to leave their positions in the I-35E lanes near Dealey Plaza, with others chanting, “Hold your ground!” Soon after, dozens of police cars arrived at the scene to route protesters off the freeway. Police eventually formed a barricade of cars to keep people from re-entering the highway.

KXAS-TV (NBC5) reported that several protesters were nearly struck by motorists. Police detained several protesters, but it wasn’t clear if arrests were made. Marchers yelled at authorities, calling them racists.

The freeway was reopened by 11 p.m., police said, and protesters were marching back through downtown and toward Dallas police headquarters just south of downtown on Lamar Street. Police accompanied them in squad cars along the way.

The precarious situation on I-35E contrasted sharply with peaceful protests that were held at DPD headquarters earlier in the evening, where there was little police involvement. The highway protest included significantly younger marchers; most appeared to be teens or in their 20s. The group was also more hostile.

In the main protest at DPD headquarters, about 200 people rallied nonviolently but shouting a loud message of anger over the events in Ferguson and perceived police abuse nationwide.

“Tonight I’m somewhat numb, but I’m also saddened,” said Michael Bowie Jr., new senior pastor of St. Luke Community United Methodist Church in Dallas. “First it was Trayvon [Martin], now it’s Michael Brown. And it’s sad that killing of black males is justified and legal.”

Protester Jerry Smith of Dallas said the grand jury’s decision was an injustice.

“A person accused of a crime has to have the opportunity for their day in court, and that opportunity was stolen,” Smith said. “And there’s something wrong with that, and there’s something wrong with people being fine with that.”

Anthony “Zulu” Fisher said he was a member of the original Black Panthers group and has lived in Dallas since 1983.

“I wanted to come out here and let them know that me, I’m not taking no more,” Fisher said. “Enough is enough. It’s like open season on us now. You can shoot a black man or shoot someone and get away with it.”

No violence was reported at Tuesday’s rally. Police, including numerous top commanders, were gathered in the lobby during the event. But no official police statement was issued.

Marchers drew comparisons to the Michael Brown shooting and fatal shootings involving Dallas police. One case cited was that of Clinton Allen, who was killed after being shot seven times in early 2013. Police said Allen, who had PCP in his system, was choking the shooting officer, Clark Staller. Staller was not indicted.

Protesters also pointed to the case of Jason Harrison, a mentally ill man who police say was shot after he charged officers with a screwdriver. Activists have decried the shooting, but police say an officer’s body-worn camera supported officers’ account. Harrison’s father has filed a civil rights suit in the case.

“The sad reality is there could be a Ferguson right here in Dallas,” the Rev. Frederick D. Haynes III, senior pastor of Friendship-West Baptist Church, said at a prayer vigil before the protest.

He called for racial sensitivity training for Dallas police.

The protests closed with a prayer and the crowd marching down Lamar Street chanting, “No justice, no peace!” and “What do we want? Justice! When do we want it? Now!”

The new website announced by Dallas police Tuesday is hosted on dallas police.net. It shows matrices of 12 years on the shootings, listing the who, what, where, when and how. Also shown are the ethnicity of the officers and suspects, the grand jury disposition and whether the suspect was armed or unarmed.

Police also included the number of assaults on officers, which have gone back up in recent years after a decrease.

Assistant Chief Randy Blankenbaker said the site might evolve as the department gets feedback from the community.

Much of the information had already been released after an activist group filed a federal complaint against Dallas police, alleging a pattern of excessive force against minorities.

Blankenbaker noted the department has increased use-of-force training for officers, put more rules on foot pursuits and bolstered community engagement and youth programs. The department also notifies the FBI of any shooting by police.

The city also recently bought 2,250 stun guns for officers. Officials say the Tasers are safer because they only allow officers to fire five-second electric shocks rather than a continuous current. Blankenbaker said the department has begun giving them to all officers who have field assignments as it phases out its 700 old stun guns.

Calling the events in Ferguson a “tragedy” and a “wake-up call,” Dallas County District Attorney-elect Susan Hawk proposed using the office’s forfeiture funds to buy more uniform-worn cameras next year for Dallas police officers.

Hawk said in a statement that she will begin buying the cameras if Chief David Brown agrees. She said she plans to meet with the chief within the next week to discuss her goal.

“When it comes to a tragic issue like a police shooting, the biggest challenge is the unanswered questions,” she said. “That’s why for the good of our citizens and officers, there’s no doubt that police should be wearing body cameras that will eliminate the guesswork that looms over so many of these cases, and add a level of accountability — especially in cases where force is used.”

Hawk’s spokeswoman, Mari Woodlief, said the particulars — the number of cameras and the amount of money the DA’s office can spend — will be decided in the meeting with Brown. She said Hawk also will discuss what to do about the DA’s new civil rights division, which is meant to run parallel investigations into shootings by police. The unit, an anathema to Dallas officers, was a crown jewel of the outgoing DA, Craig Watkins.

Brown did not respond to a request for comment. He has previously said he plans to eventually equip about 2,500 officers with the cameras. The department began testing them last year after a pair of questionable nonfatal shootings were captured on third-person cameras. Those two officers were indicted on criminal charges this year.

    – – –Jobless claims spike 21,000 to 313,000, highest level in 11 weeks

    – – – –The number of people applying for new unemployment benefits shot above 300,000 for the first time since early September, perhaps a sign the pace of hiring in the U.S. may have slowed a touch. Initial jobless claims jumped by 21,000 to 313,000 in the week ended Nov. 22, marking the highest level since the first week of September. Economists polled by MarketWatch had expected claims to total a seasonally adjusted 288,000. The average of new claims over the past month rose by 6,250 to 294,000, the Labor Department said Wednesday. The four-week average smoothens out seasonal volatility in the weekly report and is seen as a more accurate predictor of labor-market trends. Although Wall Street expects another 200,000 gain in U.S. employment in November, the spike in claims and a consumer confidence survey showing that Americans believe jobs are harder to find suggests that hiring might not be quite as strong as investors expect. Meanwhile, the government said continuing claims decreased by 17,000 to a seasonally adjusted 2.32 million in the week ended Nov. 15. Continuing claims reflect the number of people already receiving benefits. They have been on a steady downward trend that’s put them at a 15-year low. Initial claims from two weeks ago were revised up to 292,000 from 291,000.

    – – – —The average price of gasoline in the U.S. hit $2.81 per
gallon this week, putting prices on target to reach the lowest Thanksgiving average since 2009.

The national average for a gallon of gas has fallen for 60 consecutive days, AAA said on Monday, reaching the $2.81 per gallon mark, which is seven cents less than one week ago.

The low average is the cheapest gas has been since 2010. If the decline continues drivers will be paying less for Thanksgiving travel than they did in 2009, when the price was $2.63 per gallon.

Michael Brown’s father: ‘I feel empty’
    — – – –Michael Brown’s father is crushed.

Less than 24 hours after a grand jury decided not to indict Darren Wilson in the shooting death of his son Michael Brown, Michael Brown Sr. spoke exclusively to MSNBC‘s Rev. Al Sharpton Tuesday.

“I was upset,” Brown Sr. told Sharpton following the decision. “I didn’t understand.”

Brown was joined in the interview by family attorney Benjamin Crump. He offered his emotional reaction to Sharpton in the back room of Greater St. Mark Family Church in Ferguson.

Brown said his son’s character was “crucified” in the media, describing him as a “good” and “quiet” person.

“For people that don’t even know my son, they probably wish they
did,” Brown said. “The things that they are saying is terrible.”

I get tired when some progressives accuse everyone who works on Wall Street as some libertarian or evil conservative republican. There are people who work in financial services who believe that government has a role to play in making sure markets are free and fair. Elizabeth Warren who I like takes her anti Wall Street mindset to an extreme. She said that she won’t vote for Antonio F. Weiss who has been nominated by the President to be Under-Secretary of the Treasury. The guy has been a staunch supporter of President Obama and the party, and he is a big campaign donation bundler. He is relatively progressive but she thinks that anyone who works in that field shouldn’t serve.

    Morning all

  • The more i think about it, closing down major highways for a couple of hours is an awesome idea.

And when someone complains (especially white), you quote Steve harvey when he saw a white woman in the audience during his Def Comedy Jam debut.

“You know how you feel right now? This is how we feel everyday of our lives”

Good Morning POU Fam. Time for a morning rant….Wilson was not afraid, he was asserting his state-sanctioned power. Period. It’s killing me that folks on Twitter are rebutting his fear. Wilson was not afraid.

    • Alma98

Also he was the same height as Michael Brown something the media continues to ignore. And it’s obvious he’s been rehearsing his story for months. And could someone please tell Gooliani to STFU!

I don’t believe either of them were afraid. No one in their right mind moves toward that which they fear (except in the movies). Both of these racist bastards initiated these confrontations. Trayvon and Mike were minding their business when these killers rolled up on them. It’s not fear; its seething, raging racial hatred and the comfort of knowing that in a racist country, they’re likely to get away with it and, at least for now, they have. Now, that’s how to get away with murder!

          • AxelFoley

            Thank you.

Ever see an antelope run up on a lion? Hell naw, because an antelope has a natural fear of a lion and isn’t stupid.

If you’re afraid of someone or something, you don’t roll up starting shit. You keep away.

Of course they are. It feeds right into their primal fear and hatred, so it doesn’t take much for them to believe Wilson.

    • Tafr

Naw he was not scared, not at all. This lunatic shot that kid 12 times with no fear in his heart. He had not one hair out of place. All these white people taking up for him, trying to play like they are not racist know good and damn well why he killed that kid. Trust they do not want this lunatic policing in their neck of the woods.

Just read that Erza Klein piece that’s floating around repeatedly on Twitter. Klein cannot bring himself to write that Wilson is lying, “not saying it could’ve happen”. Seriously? With seven eye witnesses? Lord.

    • Town

I disagree, both George Zimmerman and Darren Wilson were VERY fearful of Trayvon Martin and Michael Brown. White people are taught from birth that a) black people are inferior & should be subservient and b) black people are very frightening physically, like beasts & demons and need to be put down hard.

Toe to toe, neither Zimmerman nor Wilson could make Trayvon or Brown acquiese to their (white) authority. At that point both Zimmerman & Wilson describe being scared, feeling little, feeling like a child and the only way for both of them to feel like a man again was to use that gun.

That’s why white people across America are harping on “Well what would YOU do if a big huge man was coming after you trying to kill you?”

That’s why white folks across America are stockpiling guns and ammo like they’re going out of style. They claim it’s because Obama was going to take them away but it’s because they wouldn’t be able to go hand to hand, fist to fist with black or Latino opponents.

And that’s why neither Zimmerman nor Wilson show any remorse and claim “Yea I’d do it again!” It’s because they know deep in their hearts they were scared punks and without that gun both Trayvon and Michael Brown would’ve gotten the best of them.

      • jds09

Okay, I get that. And I agree with you in part regarding the larger white population. Yet both Wilson and Zimmerman knew that they had the support of the State. The law was on their side in very concrete ways. My take is that they reacted in anger when they didn’t get the level of difference they felt entitled too. Their choices feel very Jim Crow/KKK to me.

        • Town

They “know” that in their heads but when their asses were getting whipped by Trayvon & Michael they reverted back to 5 year old meek weak boys. They did react in anger because black people are supposed to submit to their white authority (especially Zimmerman).

Both of them, as well as most white people in this country are physically terrified by black people and they need these laws and guns to back them up.

I don’t think either one of them woke up that morning and said “I’mma kill me a Negro.” The white people who have that mentality are the ones who aren’t afraid.

  • JB20005

Okay, now that Darren Wilson’s started his national sympathy tour, here’s some of the things that are really galling me:

When doing his “poor little me, I was scared” song and dance, nobody mentions that Wilson is 6’4″, 210 lbs, and was a former high school hockey player.

Also, the “I was afraid for my life” doesn’t exactly jibe with getting out of your car, chasing someone, and shooting them dead 150 feet down the road.

    • Town

But that’s what scared punks do. Scared punks provoke a situation, and when it becomes apparent they can’t get the better of the other person, claim to be “scared” and “so frightened” and “they felt threatened.”

If ya scared, say ya scared!

      • JB20005

        This.

If a dangerous situation makes you feel like a 5-year old, the last thing society needs to give you is a badge, a gun, and the authority of the state.

    • qosine

JB, with his “fear defense,” was Wilson trying to seek cover under the MO law re: “forcible felony”? I read/heard somewhere that under MO law, a police officer can try to claim defense if she/he believes he is a target of a person in the process of committing a “forcible felony.” Is that a CYA law? Unusual law? Law that must be changed, clarified, narrowed?

      • JB20005

That’s probably what his lawyers were thinking.
Missouri is another state where “self-defense” laws are ridiculously pro-shooter.

Garth Brooks cancels all promotional media appearances in response to national protests over Ferguson.

    Quote:

“We landed in NY last night to the news of the civil unrest that was going on in our nation. To spend the day promoting our stuff like nothing was wrong, seemed distasteful to me, I will gladly reschedule any or all appearances the networks will allow. Love one another, g.”

I wonder if Fox will declare him a race traitor.

    • Alma98

      I like this man!

    • PBomb

I have always loved Garth Brooks. He was one of the few country singers that supported PBO in 2008, (Faith Hill and Tim McGraw, Kenny Rogers are few others that support PBO too.)

I have alot of his albums, and always has seem like a decent guy.

He also gives money to charities that help black causes and Native American causes.

      • qosine

Garth Brooks has heart. I love his music and am glad to read he’s coming back to TN. Wonder what GB might be up to? Sec. of Labor Perez was just in Nashville and PBO has been down here twice — Memphis and Nashville re: education. Garth Brooks is the real deal (unlike Charlie Daniels who has gone Tea Party or showed himself who he always was, you know).

        • TyrenM

He was here last week. A few co-workers went.

          • qosine

            I’ve heard he’s a great performer.

    • Respect!

I love to see him perform.

i stayed away from news. blogs, et al for a day, and it was cleansing to the soul.

i check a few places and i’m already spent. tapped out. anger, pain, so much frustration.

when i’m forced to think about it, my eyes water. i don’t do that shit, get teary-eyed, especially with my cynical pessimistic ass. and yet…

that saying, ‘sick and tired of being sick and tired’ can’t even fully explain this feeling. i mean, i knew the outcome, but damn, if it doesn’t still hurt.

anyways, we’ll have to once again carry on with another open wound, unable to heal or scab over, for the next installment of ‘your black ass and worth shit’
